Hi everyone,

I thought I would make a thread for those who are trying to conceive their first child.

I love reading about everyone's journey, but sometimes I just need a space where I can talk to others who are dreaming of their first bundle of joy 💫

I am 31 and on cycle #8. My periods were classed as irregular but since having the coil removed, they seem to have settled and I now have 30-33 day cycles. I threw my OPKs in the bin this month, they were stressing me out and after DTD on my peaks but getting AF's just upset me even more. I am hoping to take a more relaxed approach from now on.

Sending love and hope to everyone on their unique journeys 💖

Hi 👋 I'm TTC baby number 1. Quite stressful as I am 33 and want two children if possible. All my friends already have kids as well which is quite tough to handle. I think we would have tried a couple of years sooner if covid hadn't hit as I lost my job during lockdown, and a few other factors related to covid madness.

I think waiting for so long after already wanting kids and coming closer and closer to 35 has really piled on the pressure.

I had my copper coil taken out in March, missed that fertile window as didn't DTD until after, so I'm calling April/May cycle 1 and May/June cycle 2. I should be ovulating in the next few days and doing my first OPK testing at the mo so trying to get my head round that 😂

stockpilingallthecheese · 28/05/2022 20:54

Hi Smile I'm TTC number 1. I think this is my 4th cycle trying. Had what I presume was a chemical pregnancy on cycle 1 and then nothing. Period is due in a few days and I had a faint line on a cheapie this eve! Going to test with a FR in the morning. Not getting too excited though as worried about the same thing happening again! Wishing you all luck in your journeys and fingers crossed for a successful cycle!!

SylvieArth · 28/05/2022 20:55

Hi!! Great to join you!!
We are on cycle 12. I've had two miscarriages. I also have endometriosis.. so it's been quite tricky but we are dreaming of having our first bundle still! I'm 31 and nervous about having another MC but at the same time, I just can't wait to be a mum!
I'm on CD 15, 2 DPO and hoping to test at 12 DPO.
X

Hello - great to have people that understand the struggles of ttc.

Myself and my partner are on cycle 18. My progesterone levels came back as boarderline 19nmol so suggest no ovulation as well as higher levels of prolactin than expected which can inhibit ovulation. GP won't take any further steps until partner (male) has been tested.

Feels like it's never going to be happen - trying to remain hopeful but equally trying to be realistic with myself.

CD 24 going to wait until day of expected period to test (Tuesday) although have had weird symtpoms the last few days including mouth ulcer, constant salivating with sour taste, stretchy discharge and cervix is very high but try my best not to symtpom spot so could well just be a coincidence!

@LucyLoopyLu Welcome to the thread. Most of my friends have children too and as far as I am aware they fell pregnant quickly. Age does play a part in putting added pressure on ourselves, but at least we are all on this journey now. Good luck with the OPKs. Let us know how you find them.

@stockpilingallthecheese Welcome to the thread. Sorry to hear about your MC. Good luck with testing tomorrow. My fingers are crossed for you. Hear for you either way 💖

@SylvieArth Welcome to the thread. Sorry to hear about your miscarriages, but don't let it put you off. Fingers crossed it will all be worth it in the end when you are holding your rainbow baby ❤

@Infertilemillenial Welcome to the thread. Sorry to hear about your low progesterone levels. Is your partner going to get tested with his GP? Sending you lots of love and hope that you can move forward in your journey and know what the next steps are going to be.

Is anyone a symptom spotter? How do you cope with the TWW?

Hi 👋 can I join? Currently TTC #1 too 😊what’s everyone’s experience using ovulation tests? I have a period tracker on my phone which estimates my ovulation so have bought some test to see if predicted ovulation time is correct! Am a bit worried about getting really obsessed and stressed about it though and testing all the time!

LucyLoopyLu · 28/05/2022 23:35

Thanks OP!

I've only done 3 days OPKs so feeling a bit of a novice but hoping I can catch my peak to give me an idea of whether my cycle matches what's expected on the app - my cycles also vary between 28-32 days (usually 30-32) so that shifts the window around.

I also find it stressful because we don't DTD very regularly normally so I'm a bit worried about getting my OH on board. I would be very happy to go more often in general so don't want him to think I'm only interested for TTC. I am keeping him in blissful ignorance about all my research and tracking for now... he asked before I got my coil out whether he should do some research or needs to do anything and I just said you're fine, leave it to me for now 😆 we live quite a healthy lifestyle anyway so didn't see anything he needed to change tbh.

Fingers crossed for us all!

AirGirl · 28/05/2022 23:43

What a lovely thread😊 I have endometriosis, been trying for soon-to-be 3 years, suffered a MC after my very first pregnancy in April, 40 and absolutely desperate to have my beautiful baby with my love who is my rock.❤ I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you ladies xxx

BanjoVio · 28/05/2022 23:43

Hi! Please can I join? TTC #1 and currently nearing the end of TWW (cycle day 25). Have a FR in the cupboard but trying to hang on until I’m actually late. Symptoms a-go-go over here: sore boobs, tired, stomach cramps. No idea if I should give up hope or if this a positive sign.

RMS0209 · 29/05/2022 07:08

Hi 👋 can I join please? Currently cycle 6 TTC #1
Finally got my peak OPK on cycle day 23 (yesterday) x

Drf · 29/05/2022 07:19

Hey everyone! I'm on cycle 2 of TTC baby#1. Last cycle we made a lot of mistakes, and mumsnet a has taught me a lot, but this is nice to have a space for first timers! 😁
@Welshgal85 in my experience my app, which I've tracked my periods on for 2 years, has been wrong both months now about when my peak is! So I buy cheap ovulation tests and when I'm close to a positive I use one of the more expensive clear blue smiley ones.
I got my peak on my OPK this morning, and the app said it wasnt gonna happen for another few days, but I'm already scared it's gonna amount to disappointment. We have been doing the SMEP so hopefully with that amount of sex something will stick 🥵🤭

When is everyone due AF/testing? I hope we get some BFPs this month 🤞🤞

Drf · 29/05/2022 07:26

Ohh 🤞🤞 keep us posted, hopefully it's a good sign!

SFrancis1 · 29/05/2022 08:38

@Welshgal85 Welcome to the thread. I used OPKs because my cycles used to range from 30-44 days, but since having the coil removed they have settled to 30-33 days. I found taking OPKs easy, but when AF would arrive I found it hard because we were DTD on the right days according to OPKs.

@AirGirl Welcome to the thread. Sorry to hear about your MC 💖 sending you love and hope that you have your rainbow baby x

@BanjoVio Welcome to the thread. Symptom spotting is the worst. I naturally get sore boobs when AF is due, so I have found that hard. Let us know how you get on when you test. Do you test every cycle?

@RMS0209 Welcome to the thread. Good luck with your peak, time to DTD!

@Drf Welcome to the thread. How are you finding the SMEP?

SFrancis1 · 29/05/2022 08:40

@LucyLoopyLu your cycles are like mine. It is hard timing sex and not making it just about trying to conceive. I have tried to keep sex fun, I don't think I have bought so much underwear before 😂 take this opportunity to have fun, treat yourself and explore sex. Fingers crossed we will have a crying baby that interrupts any adult time 🤞

Drf · 29/05/2022 08:46

@SFrancis1 hello :)
I've found SMEP totally fine! I thought it might be a bit much and a bit regimented, but my husband knows the drill - might as well have done a full PowerPoint presentation of on day and off days and fertile windows... Needless to say he is more than happy to assist in the SMEP 🙄🤣 If it doesn't work this time I'll definitely keep it up for a few months in the hope that it will work eventually! 🤞 have you tried it?

SFrancis1 · 29/05/2022 09:00

@Drf No, we have not tried the SMEP. We thought it might be too much pressure sticking to planned sex and AF still arriving. My partner, is more relaxed and knows it will happen when it is meant to happen. But I on the hand, sometimes find it hard when a cycle has been unsuccessful. Although I am learning to relax more now. I have a good idea of when my fertile window is in my cycles so we just have fun.

Yeah I know what you mean, it is quite regimented, I just assumed we would get pregnant first time (how naive!), then I found mumsnet and realised we could be in for the longhaul so might as well give it a go. I'll let you know how we get on with it, still need to do the 3 consecutive days and then a days break before the final BD. By then I might be a broken woman 😅

RMS0209 · 29/05/2022 09:51

Just reading this thread - really nice to have other first timers in the same boat BearFlowers

SFrancis1 · 29/05/2022 09:57

@RMS0209 Welcome to the thread. How are you getting on with your journey? How far into it are you?

@Drf Yes, keep us posted on the SMEP. Good luck 💖

RMS0209 · 29/05/2022 10:04

Hi! @SFrancis1
I am cycle 6, cycle 5 & 6 I haven't had positive OPK's until cycle day 23 (yesterday) so a bit worried as I normally hit peak day 17, but I use an Ovusense which has confirmed ovulation cycle day 25 last month so I reckon I'm the same again.
I also need to stay out the google rabbit hole of Googling everything to help/assist.. my bathroom cabinet is a local version of Boots the chemist ha ha x

RMS0209 · 29/05/2022 10:13

Also... anybody for ovulation tests that isn't already - highly recommend the easy @ home ovulation tests from Amazon and the Premom app 🙂

SFrancis1 · 29/05/2022 15:31

@RMS0209 I have ended up down the Google rabbit hole a few times. 😂 Love the boots comment. What things are you trying? I take vitamin supplements.

Please can I join! Also TTC #1. Came off the pill 3 months ago and no AF in sight so had a doctors appointment booked for tomorrow but sods law AF arrived in full flow this morning.
Not expecting miracles but will start classing this as cycle 1 of trying. Its been such a hard few months waiting for AF as at least 3 close friends have announced pregnancies in this time and found it hard to be happy for them! Was so naive yo think things would go straight back to normal after coming off back in February.

Infertilemillenial · 29/05/2022 19:37

@SFrancis1 thank you for the kind response. My partner is getting tested and has been given the sample pot - he's been given an appointment in just over a week to drop it off 😊

Cofefefe · 29/05/2022 20:24

Hi can I join in! I'm on cycle 4 of TTC#1. To be honest I'm not that hopeful as I'm 40. But myself and my partner have had fertility tests just to check it wasn't a total waste of time and his results are great and mine are pretty OK for 40. So while chances aren't that high the clinic said it was worth a go naturally. Just on the TWW now, 10dpo. Zero symptoms so not getting my hopes up this month!
