Hey everyone,

My husband and I have been TTC for 5 years and have recently been put on clomid - we're on our second cycle at the moment.
Ive had bloods done and they came back with high prolactin results so the doctors prescribed me with bromocriptine which has been working to normalise my levels. My DH has had his swimmers tested and the results came back with slightly low count but the doctor told us it's nothing to worry about.
Our official diagnosis is 'unexplained infertility' and we've been sent away with 6 months worth of clomid.

Just wanted to know if anyone is in a similar boat or if anyone else is on clomid at the moment?

@SusieNI not sure who is left on here :) I was pcosandme.x but had a name change - currently 5dpo on round 6 of clomid. How are you? Are you from NI per chance? Lol

SusieNI · 27/09/2022 07:37

Hi there @Harper02 i know I didn't want to start a new thread when this one existed:p
I am indeed from NI are you? :)
Hiw have you found climid? Did you have any side effects? Xx

Harper02 · 27/09/2022 07:53

@SusieNI yes I'm NI too, hey neighbour 👋🏻👋🏻 tbh I found the side effects bearable - I get mood swings, hot flushes, headaches. I usually take my clomid around 9pm so it's not too bad. The mental side of things is a lot harder though, I really struggle with failed cycles 🫣 it usually passes with a day though. When are you starting xx

SusieNI · 27/09/2022 08:25

Aw hey there then fellow NI-er! :) haha. @Harper02
I have PCOS, been trying over a year but hasnt been the best year as lost my dad unexpectedly right after our wedding, so I dont think dealing with grief has done us any favours the last while either! :(
I've been on metformin 3 months (side effects horrendous 😷 (hence my anxiety of starting clomid and potential side effects lol) no change really with the metformin so consultant is arranging a scan for me and then will start Clomid! Hopefully in the next 2 weeks will be on the way with it.🙏 I can only imagine the psycological side of it is brutal:( fingers crossed for u for this month please god!!
I'm dealing with TFP clinic in Belfast, who are u with?xx

jessg1999 · 27/09/2022 09:47

Hi @SusieNI and @Harper02 I am still on here, I'm from Kent in England near London, where are you ladies from Northern Ireland? So little update with me, me and my boyfriend have been trying to conceive for 3 years, no luck and it took a long time to be able to get anywhere with the doctor/hospital. In june i was put on metform, 1000mg a day (i completly agree with you, terribe side effects, such bad bowel movements, feeling nausea all the time, cystitus, thrush, hormonal as anything. after 4 months of taking metformin i have finally gotten my first period after 4 months without one, so now i have clomid to take, i have taken day 1, 2 and 3...i just have day 4 and 5 to take and then thats round 1 complete, time to start trying for this much wanted baby. I am so so nervous to complete my first round of clomid, because i am worried about it failing, but i am also very excited in case it does work.

how are you ladies feeling mentally, struggling? have either of you got any other children? this will be my first if it works. and how long have you ladies been trying.

fingers crossed for you both.

xx

SusieNI · 27/09/2022 12:00

Hi @jessg1999 lovely to meet u and hear your story! The joys of metformin eh :( lol
Fingers crossed this is your month and side effects arent too bad for u on Clomid! Are u continuing with Metformin as well? I will be. Do u have PCOS?

Mentally its all a bit meh tbh, I hate that this is what it comes too for us all to even have a period let alone have a baby. Its all just so clinical :( My two best friends are heavily pregnant atm, ready to pop and as absolutely delighted as I am for them its hard not to feel it. As excited as I am to move forward with this next step on our journey you cant ignore the fear that it wont work and this just isnt going to happen for us :(. And all the while feeling guilty that its 'my fault' as i'm the one with the fertility issues not my husband. I'm sure u feel the same way at times? But we have to stay positive I guess 💕 😊 what is for us won't past us! xx

Harper02 · 27/09/2022 16:43

@SusieNI awh that's so good!! I wonder do we know eachother lol 🫢 really sorry to hear about your Dad, how unbelievably hard :(
Metformin was the worst, I stopped it because I couldn't cope on it! I also have PCOS but I take the infolicalpha now and it's great! I am through Mid Ulster Clinic in Magherafelt :) Xx

@jessg1999 yes we are from Northern Ireland! I was so excited for my first round and when it failed I suffered badly mentally. Here I am on my 6th round and still no pregnancy 😢 still got some hope though. Wishing you every success on your first round though! I stopped my pill in late 2019 and I currently have no children and never been pregnant. Roughly the same amount of time as you! Xx

Hi lovely ladies, thought I would jump on here as I'm a fellow PCOS, ttc for baby no2 for five years. I have had three miscarriages in the last two years. Tested and diagnosed with PCOS Christmas 2021. I started clomid in January, I fell pregnant on cycle 2.

Sadly it didn't work out and it ended in miscarriage very early on. Fast forward to now, I am on cycle 7. My consultant prescribed me a round of 12 months of clomid (6 months licensed, 6 months off license).

I had my positive pregnancy test today after a 2 day late period. Praying this one sticks.

SusieNI · 27/09/2022 21:11

@Harper02 we very well could know eachother! NI isnt a very big place :p ohh what is the infolicalpha? Is that a supplement?

@pregnancyafterloss so lovely to meet u too and so nice to hear your story! I'm so sorry for your losses 💔 but congratulations on you positive test today how very exciting!!! Please god this sticks for you! Can I ask you what the difference between using clomid between on and off licence means? Thank u!x

SusieNI · 29/09/2022 12:57

Hey all :) I actually just wanted some advice....
I went for a baseline scan this morning to begin my clomid treatment and the consultant said I had a decent follicle in there at about 13mm but said he'd still advise to induce a period to start clomid and gave me a prescription for provera. Am calendar day 71 this cycle (just for reference)
It just seems a bit strange to me to induce a period when I have a decent size follicle in the works? What do you think?
I've emailed the clinic to ask do they not think i should wait until my period actually starts naturally just incase we are missing a chance with this follicle? Annoyed at myself I didnt challenge it there and then but you trust they know best and its always a bit intimidating when your in the table with a probe in places! 🙈 lol. But this is the first indication I've ever had that my billion wee follicles even have the ability to mature naturally as I thought my PCOS was making that impossible. Hmmm

Hana89 · 29/09/2022 15:46

Hi lovely ladies,
I used to be PCOSWarrior on here. Just to share my story:
I was on 50mg Clomid and 2000mg Metformin and also Progesterone.
Round 1: I ovulated later than I thought so missed my window

Round 2: I got a BFP and requested a progesterone check as historically that had been an issue for me. I was started on progesterone at 5 weeks, but sadly it was too late and we had a MMC in Dec. 21

I took a few months off and then in April, I started Round 3, took progesterone from ovulation, and I am currently 25 weeks pregnant with my first child.

Wishing you all the very best of luck on your individual Clomid journeys 🍀💖🍀💖🍀💖🍀

This is very strange. Why would he not have induced your period before taking the clomid? Did you take the clomid without a period? Also did he check your lining thickness? For reference, my follicles on day 10 were around 21-24mm and I ovulated roughly 4/5 days later xx

SusieNI · 29/09/2022 21:27

Hi @Harper02 I havent started clomid yet this was my scan to check if i needed to induce a period or not so i could start my first cycle xx

Hi just wanted to jump on and read some stories on clomid! I'm due to start taken it January 4th, I'm 29 and been ttc over a year now :)

Melpainter · 24/12/2022 14:47

Hi, @Clocloxx i took clomid for first time at 28 and it worked first time I ovulated three days after the last pill and got a BFP 15 dpo. 8 years later trying for second child and again clomid worked first round but ended in mc and several cycles after that I didn’t ovulate on clomid so now I’m on ovaleap injections
good luck with your clomid cycle 🤞

Clocloxx · 24/12/2022 15:35

Hey @Melpainter oh wow that's great on the 1st go! Do you need to track ovulation every day after starting clomid? Good luck on your baby journey too xx

Hana89 · 25/12/2022 18:17

Hi @Clocloxx wishing you all the very best for your Clomid journey! Everyone is different and I have to confess I had to use my first cycle as a learning curve! For me I took 50mg Clomid on cycle days 2 - 6 and then ovulated on cycle day 17.
Clomid 1: I missed the window because I misread the OPK sticks and thought I'd ovulated on day 12! 🙈
Clomid 2: I understood the OPK sticks better and got pregnant but had another MMC
Clomid 3: I got pregnant and little one is due on 10th Jan 2023.

I found taking Clomid before bed helped with side effects but my mood was quite up and down so be sure to give yourself lots of love and grace if you find yourself irritable or a bit blue during ovulation.
Xx

ClannadSinger · 25/12/2022 18:23

My husband and I had been trying to conceive for three years. Got pregnant had a miscarriage and then clomid for another three years. Was just about to give up and go down IVF route and got pregnant on clomid. The first lot of clomid because of where I lived they just prescribed and didn't scan to see if egg had been released. Then we moved house under different health trust and they scanned to see if egg released which worked and I became pregnant with my first

My second baby was conceived naturally. There are 20 months between them.

Js21 · 07/02/2023 22:00

Hi everyone so had 3 miscarriages and been ttc 7months now! I had an appointment with the doctor today and he has prescribed me clomifene.. so will start next cycle does anyone have any success stories with this and did you take any other supplements along side of it if so which ones are the best?

jessg1999 · 08/02/2023 10:10

hello @Js21 welcome to the group!! So I joined this chat a few months back, i had just been prescribed Metformin and Clomid, and i was trying to conceive for 2.5 years....i was prescribed this in the july, i started the clomid on my next cycle which was september, i had 3 failed rounds and then i fell pregnant on my 4th and final round of clomid in december...unfortunatly this ended up with misscariage at 6 weeks pregnant, which was very hard for us. but we took the positives from it...i was able to get pregnant which is a huge start for me.

i have just been prescribed with Letrozole so i am not going to give this a go.

positive mind set, try to make sex fun, find hobbies to destress. its so true what people tell you, when you try to forget about it, it happens!!!! i was on my 4th round and we'd lost all hope and said "look lets just relax it will happen one day and if it doesnt, well we will jsut go on lots of holidays and try to enjoy ourselves" - we barely tried to conceive that month, maybe did it twice. and i fell pregnant!!!

i know its easier said than done, but the more relaxed you are the better, just try to treat this as an amazing life journey, that WILL happen. Best of luck to you, sending love and hugs xxx

meemawsmoonpie · 09/02/2023 06:10

Hi ladies.
I'm struggling with the idea of possible infertility 😬 I have a teenage DD but with my ex husband. DP is younger than me and although I know it might not be me she was conceived within the first couple of months of trying.
DP is terrified of going to the doctors and being told it's him, is it possible for me to be prescribed CLOMID by going to my GP? AF is arriving again this morning and tbh it's getting more and more of a downer every month. I'm 38 and we've been trying really for two years.
Thanks 😊

jessg1999 · 09/02/2023 09:32

hi @meemawsmoonpie It wasn't easy to get to that point of being prescribed clomid, it took several doctors appointments with my gp with my partner, partner had to do samples and test, then i had blood tests. Then we got referred to the fertillity unit at the hospital, which was a few months to wait for an appointment. Then a few months later i had a hycosy treatment done where there injected dye into my tubes and was prescribed 4 rounds of clomid. 3 rounds failed and the 4th and final round worked...unfortunalty ended with a misscariage but just shows how well clomid can work. ive now waited a further 3 months for another appointment to be prescribed a different drug for 4 months, then its on to IVF.

I definitly think you should get the ball rolling, but the GP themselves dont prescribe the CLomid, you have to be referrred and have other things done first. then the clomid is prescribed, if you need it. my whole process took a year and half from talking to the gp to getting the clomid.

good luck my lovely xxxx
