Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm sticking to cheapies for now but it does add up. Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's addictive!

@Marvellouslymadmum I used to really like having bacon on pancakes so I found a vegan bacon that I love, Vivera veggie bacon pieces, i think it's got the best salty taste and texture is good. I tried so many different ones I didn't like. I'm not sure if it goes with the med diet but its not going to be bad for you so every now and again should be fine.

I tested this morning 8dpo and there's not much to see (pretend that the multiple tests is normal, I was testing them out 🤪) I feel like I'm seeing shadows on most of them but barely shadows really, the one step (2nd one from top) has the most obvious pinkish line but I can't fully trust it as they almost always tend to have a line BUT I've used it for a few times now and it does keep getting slightly darker. But I don't know, I'm scared to get my hopes up any higher than they already are so am kind of ignoring all of this until I see something more. Still feeling slightly nauseous this morning and warmer than normal. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Slk3558 I've also heard about cramps like that to do with pregnancy! I think it's because your uterus is stretching and you can get cramps in your thighs because they're all somewhat connected

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 09:16

@Marvellouslymadmum thank you, I know you're so knowledgable! I'm just a bit worried if it is ectopic. My friend had a ruptured tube and it just sounded so awful.
Quorn gives me really bad stomach, but I love Couldron sausages and Beyond Meat burgers. Although beyond meat are expensive! Also the Richmond veggie sausages 😋

Thanks @choccrumpet I'll check out that bacon! I cannot ever tell with the one step tests - take a frer!!

@Slk3558 hope you're doing okay!

Slk3558 · 09/06/2021 09:22

@choccrumpet 8 dpo is still so early, I’d never got a positive on 8dpo prior to this, when will you test with a FRER ? Lol . I feel like I can see shadows on the two middle ones.

This thigh pain is so annoying .. it’s like pulsing in the thighs every 5 mins. It’s weird.

@Marvellouslymadmum falafel is a good one for a veggie Mediterranean diet. I love falafel!

hopingforababyh · 09/06/2021 09:26

Aw @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 is that a positive test I've just seen?🙊 I've been trying reading as you've all been going along!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 09:30

@hopingforababyh the thread has been moving quickly right, we chat a lot, I've found it so supportive!

It is but not sure if it'll be working out yet, have another scan tomorrow. How're you?!

Slk3558 · 09/06/2021 09:34

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I’m doing okay. I’m itching to do another frer to check progression 🙈 how do you feel today

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 09:42

@Slk3558 do you think you will do one? I get it, hate doing them in case there's no progression, but figure may as well rip the band aid off. Good luck xx

Yeah I'm good thanks, on a boring conference call atm....

Slk3558 · 09/06/2021 11:11

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I don’t know, I might do one in the afternoon after a 4 hour hold. I know line progression doesn’t guarantee anything I had great progression with my last and still miscarried at 6 weeks. But I just want to reassurance that it’s doubling as should etc…

Marvellouslymadmum · 09/06/2021 11:12

@choccrumpet I'll have a look for that thank you! I gave up on finding a decent veggie bacon a long time ago lol
I always feel like the camera doesn't pick up the lines like you can see them in person so hopefully you'll just get darker lines over the next few days!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 all my 'knowledge' just comes from my experiences, google and Mumsnet 😂 if it were an ectopic I believe you usually get pain in the shoulder and sharp pains in the abdomen, but they should be able to pick it up on the screen if it's an ectopic anyway

@Slk3558 I've only ever tried falafel once and it was not nice! Will have to try a different kind or make it maybe and see if that makes it better lol

So for me it's ovulation attempt no 4! Bigger dye stealer opk today so I'm hoping this will finally be it! Will dtd again today and maybe tomorrow and hope for the temp shift 🙄

choccrumpet · 09/06/2021 11:12

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I really like the Naked Glory sausages and burger wise I actually find most even cheaper own branded ones nice, like the Tesco ones. Also Birds Eye Swedish style meatballs are lovely, I really like them.

@Slk3558 I'll leave the frer until/if I start seeing darker lines on the cheaper ones I think, or else try maybe in 2 days or so. Or if I get itchy I might do one tomorrow morning 😂

I've been having some mild odd cramps around the lower stomach area and if I get up or move suddenly there's like a pulling pain. Trying to ignore it and not overthink!

choccrumpet · 09/06/2021 11:19

@Marvellouslymadmum I really like that bacon I mentioned. I have it on avocado and toast, with pancakes and syrup, throw some into a veggie carbonara. I freeze mine so am not forced to use it all up quickly. It's more like bacon bits than pieces of bacon but I love it. Also falafel - you should definitely try a few different ones! We normally have it with some quinoa and veggies and sweet chilli sauce, definitely shop around and try a few.

And yeah the lines aren't really there so am not counting them just yet, we'll see in the next few days.

Attempt number 4 is insane!! Sending you all the ovulation & higher temp vibes, let this be the one!!

Marvellouslymadmum · 09/06/2021 11:41

@choccrumpet I really like the Tesco veggie burgers too, for sausages it's Linda McCartney or quorn I think, I found the coating on the Richmond ones a bit weird haha that's percent that it's pieces anyway for the bacon as I was never a big bacon fav anyway just like it cooked into things! I'm exhausted with the peak opk's but hey ho carrying on!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 11:55

Omg @Marvellouslymadmum the fourth ovulation attempt! Wow I'd imagine you're okay for exercise this month 😆 I really hope this is the one. Must be exhausted.

I need to branch out with my meat substitutes, I mostly don't use them. Will def try the bacon, I love carbonara!

Falafels are really delicious, but the supermarket ones can be hit and miss. Love a falafel wrap with humus and all the sides

Slk3558 · 09/06/2021 12:02

Funny how this thread went from soy isoflavones to veggie recipes 🤣

@Marvellouslymadmum hopefully this will be the last peak, it’s good you’ve a good dye stealer opk! Hope you get that temp rise xx

@choccrumpet 😂 I know that feeling of impatience, really hope your symptoms are pg related !

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 12:13

@Slk3558 technically still soy 😂

hopingforababyh · 09/06/2021 12:18

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it does!! But so happy to see another BFP! I'm doing okay, 11 weeks today and having my 4th private scan this evening because I am SO anxious all the time but hoping we still have a sticky baby! I also did a test every day until 6 weeks ( maybe twice a day - AM & PM) all FRER 💸 but anything to keep my worries down & really enjoyed seeing the line darken to the dye stealer!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you (and everyone else!!!)🤞🏻

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 12:24

@hopingforababyh wow 11 weeks, how times flown by! That's brilliant, good luck for your scan! Completely understand the anxiety, hope you're okay

choccrumpet · 09/06/2021 12:28

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 haha yes technically we're still talking about soy! I don't think it's bad you're not eating substitutes. I feel like long time real vegetarians look down upon substitutes so I feel like I'm cheating by eating them but I am getting whatever nutrients they contain so it's not a negative.

@Marvellouslymadmum agree about the coating on the Richmond ones! I used to buy them and then decided to try the other ones. I'm not surprised you're exhausted, definitely enough exercise for this month!

@Slk3558 we shall see! It's not unusual to have pms symptoms and think they're pregnancy related.. I would be upset if that is the case but we move on.

@hopingforababyh glad to hear you're doing okay 🤗 scan wise if it helps you there's nothing wrong with that. Hope it goes well!

waves1985 · 09/06/2021 13:06

Sorry for butting in and I hope you don't mind, but I've spent the last 2 weeks or so reading this thread (not the full 2 weeks you understand!) and wanted to say thank you so much for all the useful information! I really appreciate you all sharing your stories.

I'm TTC #1, cycle #3 after a chemical in March and an MMC in December, after having my coil out in August 2020. After the coil out and my miscarriage, my cycles went back to my normal, but after the chemical they've gone haywire, 41 days, 31 days and a 9 day luteal phase both times! So yes, I was very interested to hear about soy and the impact it can have on ovulation. I've also managed to get day 3 and day 21 blood tests and there's all sorts going on, lots of things too high and too low. Anyway 4DPO and keeping my expectation low!

Hope you are all doing OK xxx

Marvellouslymadmum · 09/06/2021 13:18

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 if I haven't shrunk at least a dress size by the time this cycle is over I'll be cross 😂 not only have we been dtd all the time we've also joined the gym, taking the dogs on walks and bike rides too! I'm funny I've not been keen on humus that I've tried either but im not a fan of the chick pea or lentil 🙄 so going to have to try them all again lol

Thanks @Slk3558 im really hoping this is it!!

@hopingforababyh really glad everything's going well for you, hope your scan goes well.

@choccrumpet ive been a veggie since I was 15 so 27 years and I eat meat substitutes it gives more variety

Hi @waves1985 and welcome! Sorry to hear of your losses, they're so hard to deal with. What have the docs said about your levels on day 3 and day 21? Do they think it's to do with the cp?

waves1985 · 09/06/2021 13:24

Hi @Marvellouslymadmum, thank you!! I'm enjoying hearing about your veggie journey Smile

They think my hormones might have been out before that and it's all sort of built up over time but hard to say I suppose. I'm waiting for an appointment with my GP's hormonal specialist on 28 June. They think I'm probably not ovulating every month and my acupuncturist has said the same as my FSH is high but progesterone / oestrogen are low. Fun times!

waves1985 · 09/06/2021 13:26

and PS so lovely to hear about everyone's happy news and big congratulations xxx

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 13:28

@waves1985 hello. Sorry re the MMC and chemical, and hormones all out since then. I sympathise, mine were all over the place after. Have you done acupuncture for long? I really credit the acupuncture, soy, and the vitamin plan for getting me back on track, but it took a good 2-3 months to get them more normal, and all in my cycles were weird for about six months

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 13:31

@Marvellouslymadmum fingers crossed for a dress size then 🤞! Side effect from this plan, we'll all be waifs 😂 My dog is sick of walks already on the days he's at home with us rather than daycare
