Am I going to miscarry? Scared and frightened

Hi all,

I’m just looking for some guidance really. I’m lucky to have lots of support around me by really fantastic people, but I sometimes feel better talking to people who I don’t know I real life, where I can write without feeling like i’m weighing down on the people around me. It makes me feel better to write stuff all down too. Thanks for reading if you see this.

I found out on New Year’s Day I was pregnant, with my long term boyfriend. We were so happy. That was a Friday. By Sunday night I wiped and there was pink. I tried not to freak out and kinda pushed it to the back of my mind. I was due on my period on that day so thought it may be connected.

Since that Sunday (9 days ago) I have had spotting. Up until 2 days ago it has been light pink. There may have been some red spotting too in between but nothing alarmingly red I don’t think. Thinking back the red was more on the dark side. The last 2 days have been brown/really dark red. There has been no discharge. I am feeling a big sick in the mornings and have gagged a few times. I also think my nipples feel a bit sore. I have done a few pregnancy tests, the most recent one on Saturday (3 days ago) was clearly darker than the rest.

Last Thursday, 5 days after the spotting began I had a hospital appointment anyway as I was having tests. I came of the pill months ago and was spotting for a week, then having my period, then spotting for another week. The drs thought possible PCOS or just my body adjusting, but couldn’t have the tests due to me now being pregnant. They saw me and scanned me on Thursday anyway. This was with an abdominal scan as I had told them i’d been bleeding and they didn’t want to make it worse. I would have been 4 weeks 6 days at that point, they couldn’t see the sac, only that my lining was thick. The lady said I was really early to see that anyway as it was so early and as it wasn’t a transvaginal scan, it wouldn’t have been clear really anyway.

I had an abortion (with the same partner) back in 2018, my dad had just died and my mental health had plummeted, I was 9.5 weeks and never knew I was pregnant, I was on the pill the whole time. I remember bleeding at work with that pregnancy (when I didn’t know I was pregnant) and had to go home it was so heavy, however I was still on the pill so looking back it could have been my break week and my body would have made me bleed, I think. I’ve regretted it everyday and now think i’m being punished for what I did.

I have a scan on Friday, in 3 days, i’m petrified. I’ve not had any cramps yet nor clots.

I am just looking for some thoughts please?
Please don’t judge me for the abortion. I am ashamed of it and it breaks my heart daily when I think about it. Thanks for reading this. X

I had persistent spotting until 20weeks along with a pretty heavy bleed (gushed out) at 13 weeks. DS hung on in and is now a 6ft2 strapping 16yr old.
Stay positive, unfortunately there are no guarantees but I was reassured that a good strong heartbeat at 8weeks is a good sign.
Good luck and wishing you all the best for September when I presume your due!

@Greeneyesbiglashes thank you so much love! We sre in this together ❤

Hey @unicornpower and @Greeneyesbiglashes,
Have just read through this thread and it is so reassuring. I recently had my BFP on Thursday on a clear blue digital (1-2 weeks) so obviously still very early. I am spotting browny/pink mainly when I wipe and a tiny bit on a pad. Very scared as I had a chemical in September last year. I’m reluctant to call GP for a referral yet as I just know I am too early. Everything you’ve both written really resonates with what I’m going through, I’m so pleased that all had gone well for your early scans! @Greeneyesbiglashes which Surrey hospital did you have your scans at? I’m in Surrey too! Hope you’re both doing well.

november90 · 01/02/2021 08:59

So happy to hear of the good news for you both. Wishing you both a really happy and healthy pregnancies. I have two little boys my youngest is eight months old and I feel like I'm in a constant state of being broody, ha ha! My pregnancy was tough because my husband walked out at 24 weeks and then the lockdown happened so I felt really isolated. However I had the best time and been able to carry my two boys in my tummy is by far the best thing I've ever experienced and I really hope that one day I get to do it again ha ha. I just have to meet Mr right first!

unicornpower · 01/02/2021 09:09

@Luna30 oh love i really feel your pain, I honestly was wiping brown and even had a slight bit of red one day for about 9 days all in all and it was very stop start and although its still early days, there was no sign of any haemorrhage on my scan yesterday. Try and think positive as the odds are in your favour this time round, when is your period due? Sending you lots of love xxxxx

unicornpower · 01/02/2021 09:10

@november90 thank you for your kind words! Sounds like your husbands loss 😘😘

Luna30 · 01/02/2021 09:56

@unicornpower it’s terrifying isn’t it? I wonder if people ever truly relax or stop worrying.

LMP was on 26/12/2020, but I know I ovulated later as I got a positive on a clear blue OPK at 9am on 17/1/2021 so assume I ovulated a day later. Will do another digi test on Thursday and see if I get 2-3 weeks which may reassure me a little. When is your next scan?

unicornpower · 01/02/2021 17:33

@Luna30 good idea, just try not to fret before hand and look after yourself, this part is so worrying and sometimes I wish I hadn't found out so early tbh as ive been so worried constantly. I think we might have another at 9 weeks but hubby wants to wait till 12 but I dont think I can go that long without reassurance Confused

Greeneyesbiglashes · 01/02/2021 20:03

@Angrymum22 thanks for sharing your experience and letting us know your son was delivered safe and well! What great news! That gives me a lot of hope and reassurance so thank you!

Yes 12th December they are saying at the moment! Thanks again xxx

Hello love! Firstly congratulations on your BFP!! I am glad you have found it reassuring and sorry to hear you are also going through the same.

I am sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancy.

Thanks for your well wishes, still have a long way to go but I was feeling against all the odds and so far touches all the wood around me all is ok atm.

When did you start spotting? I had it firstly for 10 days, brown, light pink and dark red, also with some lining. Mostly when I wiped too but also drops in the toilet. It was mostly the worst first thing in the morning. I put a pad in to track it but it was mostly when I went for a wee. I then have had it on and off since then.

I had my scan at East Surrey hun, in Redhill if you know it and are local? You can call 9-1am in the morning for self referral or advice xx

Thank you girl! Aw lovely to hear about your little boys. Corr screw your husband. You’re better off without someone like that. What a strong lovely lady you are! Sorry you feel isolated. PM me whenever, I often feel quite lonely so more than happy to chat away. Please don’t feel alone!

So nice to hear about your experiences!! Mr right will come along but sounds like you’re SMASHING it! Xx

Not me but my sister had spotting like this through most of her pregnancy, until 3rd trimester-ish, and was worried as didn't have anything like this on the first. She was consultant led for something else and they didn't seem too worried. She made it to 40 weeks no issues so try not to worry too much. All sounds positive from your scans x

Greeneyesbiglashes · 01/02/2021 20:23

Thanks @Msgiggles30 for sharing your sister’s experience. That’s really useful and reassuring to know. I am feeling quite on edge and low, so that’s just what I needed to hear.

Thanks again xx

I spotted during both my pregnancies, more so with the 2nd, had several scans and examinations, was decided it was just cervical erosion. My babies are now 17 and 14 🤣.

I know it’s hard not to think the worst, I thought I was miscarrying many times but after a while realised baby was fine and the issue (the erosion) was just caused by hormonal changes.

Greeneyesbiglashes · 01/02/2021 20:45

@Lovemusic33 hey, thanks so much for sharing! Glad to hear your pregnancies were all successful in the end. What great news.

I assumed mine may be hormonal. I was prone to spotting before periods and always on smear test.

Trying to stay positive but so difficult!! I need to be Positive Polly and not Negative Nancy but it’s soooo hard xx

I still have issues now with spotting and am awaiting a gynaecology appointment. Pretty sure my bleeding was due to hormones when pregnant and probably the same now im getting older. Fingers crossed your baby is fine and it's just caused by pregnancy hormones.

Greeneyesbiglashes · 02/02/2021 07:52

@Lovemusic33 good luck with your appointment! I do wonder if all my spotting is due to hormones too (well I hope it is really). Thanks so much!! Being a woman is HARD haha.

@unicornpower ah yes, totally agree that finding out much later really would have been easier. Think that a 9 week scan is a great idea, shorter milestones which will definitely be more reassuring.

Even if this time doesn’t work out for me again, it’s so lovely having been able to share my worries with others who have experienced similar.

@Greeneyesbiglashes also touching all the wood around me for you!

At 3am on the 30th when I woke up to go to the loo, I had a really small amount of brown on the tissue when I wiped. Also the same about midday. Barely anything there on a pad.
At 1am on the 31st I had a darker red bit of blood when wiping, but not much. Barely anything there on a pad.
1st (yesterday) nothing. Barely anything/nothing there on a pad.
2nd (today) 4am toilet trip, nothing, however 7am toilet trip there was darker red blood when wiping and a few drops in the toilet. Went to the toilet at 8.30am and nothing. Barely anything there on a pad.

All so worrying. Ah, my nearest is Royal Surrey, but I think there’s not point me contacting the EPU yet as it’s just too early.

Only one thing for it, waiting it out!!

unicornpower · 02/02/2021 12:07

Morning ladies!

I've had some brown discharge when i wiped today, could it be from my TV ultrasound? he was really probing about locating my ovaries so I'm hoping its just from that i really am! We've booked another scan for two weeks time which I'm happy about as its something thats not 12 weeks. I have my first midwife appt next monday so ill mention the spotting to her too.

@Luna30 I agree that its probably a bit early to tell you much, i think stick to your plan of testing on thursday, or you could contact your GP and ask if they will do your HCG levels so you can see if they are doubling?

Luna30 · 03/02/2021 14:27

@unicornpower the countdown is on for you 😊.
Only one more day until Thursday’s testing, but Amazon have still not delivered my digital.
What do you guys think of my cheapies? Bottom one from this morning, then last night, then yesterday morning, then Monday evening, then Monday morning and finally Sunday evening. I know HCG only doubles every 48-72 hours but I am becoming a POAS addict 😳!

Am I going to miscarry? Scared and frightened
unicornpower · 03/02/2021 16:08

Todays looks great @luna30! Thats good progression for sure! How is the spotting now? Mines gone away again so hoping it was just the ultrasound. I rang the midwives in a little panic and felt quite silly, she was lovely though and told me to call anytime x
