Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

@Catconfusion have you got any insight as to what my chart is saying?

I know it is still very much all over the place temp wise but I am having high temps compared to my earlier on in my cycle.

FF has put cross hairs on but I'm pretty sure they are not accurate.

What do you think?

Hey @EssJayCee there’s definitely a shift there. Your temps became more stable and there’s more of an upward trend. It could be O with slow rising progesterone. Are you having any blood tests this cycle to see if O happened? I’d definitely start testing as those more recent temps are pretty high. Xx

Thank you @Catconfusion No, I'm not having tests this cycle. I did last cycle and I will be my next cycle whenever that may be!

I need AF to come soon so I can do those blood tests ready for my appointment in 6-8 weeks. My longest cycle is 72 days which doesn't even happen within 6-8 weeks so I am worried I won't even get the tests done before my next appointment!

Do you mean testing for Ovulation or pregnancy?

Catconfusion · 17/11/2019 10:14

@EssJayyCee I’d test for pregnancy as you chart suggests you’re at least two weeks post ovulation. Even if you’re not pregnant and AF now comes it’s a good sign you did ovulate. Have you noticed any bloating or premenstral symptoms? It’s such a good sign to see more of a pattern with your chart. Your body is trying. If you can use a First Response rest as more accurate. I really hope you have good news, if not it’s looking good for future cycles. Xx

Hi ladies donyiu mind if I join you. This is the first time I've seen a pcos thread on here!! Hoping to get some support and recommendations / ideas to help . Basically hot diagnosed with pcos few years back and have been ttc baby 1 for year and half now. Got bfp back in march but mc few weeks later. My doc has me on clomid and provera for when I want to bring on af. Got an ovusense a two weeks ago and found it great so far . Did you find it helped you alot?? I randomly ov last sat or sun and seemed to pick it up after .

Catconfusion · 17/11/2019 12:41

Hey @dublino of course welcome to the thread. I’m actually 19 weeks pregnant now and OvuSense really helped me to confirm ovulation Leading to my bfp. It wasn’t always accurate about the precise day but good at showing it definitely happened and showing my luteal phase length.

I’m so sorry to hear about your mc. I had a mmc at 12 weeks and another early loss straight after and it was heartbreaking. Please know every pregnancy is different and your chances are very good that the next one will stick. Recurrent miscarriage is actually quite rare.

It’s great your doctor is being proactive with medication to bring on AF and Clomid. My mum conceived my sister with it in 1972 and was one of the first to use it. I then came naturally after. Pcos runs in my family although the only symptom I have is irregular periods and cysts when I was younger. My hormones have always been normal.

I’m glad you found the thread because the normal ttc ones are awkward with irregular periods as others don’t necessarily understand. Good luck and I really hope you catch soon. You won’t regret trying OvuSense. Xx

@Catconfusion I think I'm going to leave it a few more days and see what my temps do, I don't want to end up feeling really disheartened if it ends up being BFN. I don't think it would be BFP anyway.

Also, part of me doesn't want to get pregnant now I am finally getting help. Is that weird to say?

I've had a couple of days where I had cramps and my nipples have been sore for about 11days and my boobs have been tender on n off for the last two days. I usually get sore nipples for a few days before AF but this has been going on for a while but also my puppy keeps jumping on me and catching them with his claws so I'm not sure if it's just that anyway!

Time will tell!

Welcome @dublino I've not been diagnosed with PCOS but I have Polycystic ovaries and irregular cycles and being investigated to see if I ovulate or not. Sorry to hear about your MC I can't even begin to imagine how that made you feel.

Catconfusion · 17/11/2019 17:41

That’s probably wise @EssJayyCee. Give it a few days and see what happens. It’s horrible to get your hopes up if it’s a bfn. If no AF and raised temps it’s worth checking.

I remember feeling similar just before I got my bfp as my fertility appointment was a few weeks away and I felt at the time I’d rather just have the help. I do wonder if maybe the pressure being off a bit helped us conceive. I’m glad it happened how it did as it’s saved taking any medication.

I think either way you’re in a really good position. Ive got a really good feeling you’ll have good news soon! Xx

Well after BD tonight I am bleeding.. thinking its AF because it's red but it's strange because I usually have brown spotting a day before the red comes.

If it is AF,
I have to have a blood test on day 2, and 21 and then every 3 days after that for a further 3 blood tests. Day 21 falls on a Sunday so I will have to go for day 22 will that make much difference?

@Catconfusion at least if it is AF it means my referral hasn't been for nothing after all 😊 I really hope it is AF!! I hope you're right about the good news! I feel so positive about it too!

I'm hoping for Clomid and fingers crossed it works quite quickly 😁 We won't have good news for Christmas but maybe 2020 is going to be our year! 😍

Catconfusion · 18/11/2019 06:25

@EssJayyCee that’s good news. Be aware some ladies bleed in early pregnancy so still worth testing, especially if it doesn’t continue as AF would. If it is AF then you have a nice and long luteal phase this time of about 18 days if FF is right about O day. My luteal phase was always about 17 days. It’s a sign of good progesterone which is important for early pregnancy.

I have a feeling next year will be your year too. You have got a really good mindset which will help immensely with this. There is no reason to suggest you can’t fall pregnant and clomid might be the boost you need. Keep us posted! Xx

EssJayyCee · 18/11/2019 06:58

@Catconfusion well, I've not bled over night or this morning so I'm thinking not AF but bleeding from intercourse (I occasionally get pain and spotting, GP found nothing..)
Temp still high at 36.87 this morning too so doesn't even look like AF temps...
So back to the drawing board and hoping hard for AF to come!

Catconfusion · 18/11/2019 16:17

@EssJayyCee I was going to say I’d expect a big temp drop if AF. If your temps keep up do a test. I know it’s really hard as you don’t want to get your hopes up but at least you could rule it out. Good luck! Xx

@Catconfusion congrats on your pregnacy. I hope its going very well for you. If you dont mind me asking how did you find the ovusense with confirming ovulation. The reason I ask is two consecitive days before I got a positive opk I had a lot of ewcm when I was removing the ovusense. Ii put it down to my body getting used to it. Was shocked when I got the positive opk was I taught I had ovulated about 5/6 weeks before and was waiting on af to arrive . The same day I got the positive opk I had a pinching feeling for about 4 hrs around lunch time which I presumed was the ovulation. However , ovusense has me down as ovulating two days later which would been the second day of ny temp rise. I would have taught I would have that ece after the pinch or next morn.

Catconfusion · 19/11/2019 06:45

@dublino if I’m honest I’d take the actual day with a pinch of salt. It was often a day or two out for me. What’s important is it confirms you have ovulated and is a much easier way to monitor than temping.

Below is the chart I got pregnant on. I know from my early pregnancy ultrasounds I conceived where the thin blue is. If you call support they’ll generally stick by the algorithm and say it works differently. I’ve however been confident I’ve ovulated on the day before a significant temperature rise as you can see on my chart. Overall it is really helpful despite not always pinpointing the exact day. Good luck, I really hope you have done good news soon! Xx

I did a test today and it was BFN.

EssJayyCee · 19/11/2019 13:16

My temp is still gradually increasing.. 36.92 today.

Not sure what to think anymore.

EssJayyCee · 19/11/2019 13:17

Sorry for multiple posts . Here's my chart..

Catconfusion · 19/11/2019 13:40

@EssJayyCee I’m sorry to hear that but it could still be too early so I wouldn’t rule it out yet. Your temps seem to dramatically go up after day 36 so this could be O day rather than when FF says. In which case you’d only be 9 dpo. Maybe give it a few days and test again if still raised. Xx

@catconfusion thanks. I'm intrigued to see how your chart was. Like I said my ovulation was a surprise to us. I taught I ov 6 weeks ago . I'm getting married start of next august so I decided to check the dates when I got the positive opk and if I did concieve it would be two days beforehand so said I'd hold off. However; cause I taught I wasnt due to ovulate we had bd on the thurs night ( positive opk on sat morn) . Theres still a chance but I dont think I am. Have sore boobs at present but there the norm and had nights sweats the other night. I've just attached a pic . Ovusense says monday but I think it was probably around sat eve or sun

@EssJayyCee
Your temp still rising . Is there a chance you ov'd later ?? When you starting clomid?? I have high Hope's with the clomid. Got a bfp on my second round of 100mg but unfortunately that one wasnt to be .

dublino · 19/11/2019 13:57

Also fyi my cycle day is wrong on that graph . I'm around cd 64 now . Ovusense wouldn't let me start it that late into my cycle

Catconfusion · 19/11/2019 15:52

@dublino I agree it looks like a couple of days before. I do wonder if it gets a bit confused with us pco/pcos ladies as the progesterone often rises a bit more slowly over a few days. When I got my last bfp I was convinced I wasn’t pregnant but low and behold I was. You just never know. Hopefully when you do get a bfp it won’t clash too much with your wedding. Xx

@Catconfusion that's what I thought.. if I take the Ewcm off from day 26 FF puts a solid cross hair on day 36 not a dotted one..

I'm going to struggle to get an accurate reading tomorrow morning though because it's my turn to get up with the puppy which can be any time from 3.30-5.20... my temp time is 5.20am. I have a feeling it's going to drop.

@dublino I won't know about clomid until my next appointment which should be in 6-8 weeks whenever I get the letter... but even then that depends if AF comes and i get my blood tests all done in time.. at this rate they won't be done 😑

EssJayyCee · 19/11/2019 18:30

Day 33 not day 36 sorry x

Avocuddles · 19/11/2019 23:52

Hi all. Sorry I've not been around, am on holiday at the moment with DH and my parents. We've taken a break from TTC for a couple of months after the second miscarriage so enjoying all the cured meats and wine this week, although I'm a bit confused at the moment cycle wise.... I expected AF to kick in a couple of days ago as based on opks I think I'm now 16DPO, however we didn't have unprotected sex until 8 days ago (when I thought I was well past the fertile window, and also had completely blank opks) so pregnancy isn't the cause. How long are your luteal phases? I thought mine were around 12 days but this month definitely doesn't seem like that unless it's another anovulatory cycle....
On the plus side our next fertility clinic appointment came through for December 12th so maybe the new year will bring us some support!

@Catconfusion I'm glad your pregnancy is going well!

@EssJayyCee I'm glad things are moving along for you now and hope your BFP is just around the corner!

@dublino I hope you get your BFP soon - also hope the wedding planning is going well! x

EssJayyCee · 20/11/2019 18:56

Hi, @Avocuddles I hope you're having a lovely holiday.
Just play it by ear with your cycle. Your hormones etc could still be all over the place from your MC.

2020 will be OUR year! It would be so nice to have someone to be on the journey with!

My next fertility appointment is 8th January!
I just need AF to come and for me to have Day 2, 21, 24, and 27 blood tests before then! 🤞🏻
