@CritterTamer wonderful news. It sounds as though the care you are getting is brilliant.

Taxgirl1 · 10/11/2018 05:21

Petra, weights and Pilates shouldn’t affect fertility I wouldn't have thought, nor hiit. Too much cardio can have a huge impact on fertility but that's when people train excessively. I've read about exercise being good because it encourages blood flow to the uterus and it makes a lot of sense to me. I was doing a lot of ashtanga yoga when I got pg with dc1. I don't have time to do anything at present. I'd like to change that somehow. Just haven't quite worked out how

Cleo - noticed you asked me a question - yes he is testing for nk cells. Have to see what he says when I go for the results...

CritterTamer · 10/11/2018 08:24

@Petrarabbit - I think you asked about the twins - they will not be identical as they are the result of two separate embryos being transferred. As far as gender guesses - my DH is convinced they’re girls for some reason, whereas I honestly dont have a ‘feeling’ one way or the other, however the evidence is they are slightly more likely to be boys because they developed so strongly in the lab over the first 5 days (they were both already hatching on day5) and apparently female embryos generally tend to be a bit slower developing outside of the uterus. To be honest we’d both love one of each but at this point I’m just hoping the both make it to the next scan 🤞

@Mellongoose - yes my clinic is absolutely wonderful they are lookIng after me really well 😊

Realitysucks · 10/11/2018 09:16

Hi all, so I’m new here and not sure if this is the right thread as there seems to be so many on this subject! I’m 40 and TTC. Already Have a 16 year old from a previous relationship but my current partner has no children. Due to our age (both 40) we decided to get ourselves checked out at a fertility centre rather than waste time trying. Well turns out he obviously has supersperm Smile but my AMH is only 4 😥. I have only been off the pill since September and period just came this morning so on my second cycle now. Has anyone managed a natural conception with such a low AMH? We are due to go back to the clinic at the end of November and are looking to start fertility treatment in the new year but I’m not sure if we are jumping the gun a bit too soon and whether we should give it 6 months of trying first? I will be 41 in January so don’t really want to waste any more time. Any thoughts?

CritterTamer · 10/11/2018 09:43

@Realitysucks - we are almost exactly the same age. I gave it 7 months of trying naturally before going to IVF. I know this isn’t long but we had no DC and the sense of time we did not have passing was just too strong. Knowing that the longer you wait the less chance there is of IVF working we decided to go for it before the (already low) chances got any lower. My AMH is 10.4 and we’ve just had success with our second IVF cycle.

Obviously it’s a very personal decision and everyone is different but thought I’d share my experience in case it helps 😊

Realitysucks · 10/11/2018 09:52

Thanks, I didn’t think 10.4 was low ! Well not for our age. I’m just so confused by it all. When I look online anything under 4.9 seems to be very low. Our clinic said 0-6 is low and 6 and above is normal. They score out of 20. I haven’t had the scan for follicle count yet so my understanding is the overall number could increase. I’m not sure if this is right though. I’m also considering DHEA but worried about the side effects 😬

Realitysucks · 10/11/2018 09:54

Sorry Crittertamer I meant to say Congratulations! How did you cope with all the treatment? I’m so worried about the injections I hate needles 😬

Cleozeta · 10/11/2018 10:09

Welcome reality.
I didn't think an AMH of 4 was particularly low? I've not had mine checked yet but as I have high FSH I'm expecting it to be alot lower than 4! I've had 2 conceptions this year, neither were successful unfortunately, but feeling hope that I seem to be able to conceive so far. I'm 41, 42 in Feb. Hoping to have checks done this month in preparation to start things moving in the new year.

CritterTamer · 10/11/2018 10:17

@Realitysucks - yes 10.4 is top end of normal for our age group, however it’s not all about AMH - egg quality is probably the most important factor - whilst AMH might indicate how many eggs you are likely to get, getting lots of eggs of poor quality won’t result in a pregnancy, whereas even a single embryo that is top quality may give you a successful outcome. Generally the higher the AMH the better the chances of there being some ‘good’ eggs in there but plenty of people do have successful IVF and natural conceptions with low AMH - it’s a real lottery. The only way really to understand what the quality of your eggs is like will be to try a cycle. The first cycle generally teaches your clinic a Lot about your response to the drugs and egg/embryo quality. If this cycle fails they will then be able to look at ways to tweak your protocol for the next cycle. My advice would be go into it expecting that it is likely to take multiple cycles to succeed.

CritterTamer · 10/11/2018 10:20

@Realitysucks - sorry to answer your other question, the needles arent pleasant but once you’ve done the first couple it’s not a problem. You will find IVF an excellent motivation to get over your fear (i certainly did!)

Realitysucks · 10/11/2018 10:23

Thanks guys. They did say if I don’t respond to treatment very well then they may abondend the first cycle. Looks like I will start in the new year. I will just have to get over the needle issue. I expect we will get more info at the TIA appointment on 21st November.

CritterTamer · 10/11/2018 10:42

Good luck with it 😊

Presh12345 · 10/11/2018 13:32

So husband's son has just announced his wife's pregnancy 😓
Does anyone know if I had IUI 8 days ago and period is due on Wednesday, does progesterone tablets delay period???

Chatbash72 · 10/11/2018 14:00

Ouch @Presh12345 big hugs.. I hate when new pregs are announced 💕😞

CritterTamer · 10/11/2018 14:03

@Preash12345 - not sure if the tablets are the same but progesterone pessaries certainly can, particularly if your natural progesterone level is on the low side. Ladies with high natural progesterone will still experience a large drop in levels when the corpus luteum dies which will trigger a period despite progesterone supplementation, but us older ladies tend to have lower natural levels so the level change is smaller and AF tends to be held off. Hope this makes sense 😊

PetraRabbit · 10/11/2018 17:44

Didn't want to look stupid...I do understand how twins develop but wondered if it was possible two were implanted but one didn't make it and the other divided spontaneously into identicals.....obviously not the most likely thing but you hear of identicals through IVF occasionally!!! Whatever they are will be so exciting!

CritterTamer · 10/11/2018 18:05

@Petrarabbit - ah sorry I see what you mean. No there are two entirely separate sacs so definitely the result of the two embryos 😊

PetraRabbit · 10/11/2018 21:41

Critter- the silly, nosy questions I end up asking when I'm enjoying someone else's fertility haha! I find all this stuff fascinating.

CritterTamer · 10/11/2018 21:56

@Petrarabbit - not silly or nosey at all!

BooseysMom · 11/11/2018 10:49

@Taxgirl1 and @PetraRabbit...exactly my story too! Conceived at 40 ..3 months off 41 ...and nothing since although I have all the signs of ovulation every month. Think we haven't tried hard enough.

@Rose68 ... sorry to hear the scan result wasn't as expected..thinking of you and sending love x

@CritterTamer... wow that sounds fantastic! How exciting..good luck at next scan x

@Realitysucks... welcome to what has got to be one of the most persevering strongest group of ladies ever in the history of mumsnet! Good luck with your journey x

Orchid222 · 11/11/2018 11:11

Morning everyone.

Rose- I cant remember but I think I was about 6+4 but my situation was different to yours since I didn't even have a fetal pole. I spent the next 2 weeks reading about how fetal poles and heartbeats could appear really late but 2 weeks later there was still nothing and after another week it was determined my pregnancy was not viable because there was still no fetal pole and the gestational sack stopped growing so very different to you I believe.

So had IUI last saturday. Counting Saturday, that makes me 9dpiui. POAS and got a BFN. 😪

Taxgirl1 · 11/11/2018 14:10

Ugh, I just met my brother and his wife - they are hard work at the best of times - they are expecting number 2 of course - thought that's why they wanted to meet up. I am floored. Clearly my head's not as straight as I thought because I'm in bits.

WishingonaStar77 · 11/11/2018 14:11

Afternoon Ladies,

Will feel a bit stupid if this doesn't turn into anything but I'm sure I'm only about 5dpo although my OPK test was odd this month and last month was a CP so it could be a bit off.

But I've been getting some little pricks and pulls in my tummy last night and today and I know from being pregnant before you do get than.

But no surely I'm being stupid nothing can happen yet it's far too early! But being a POAS addict I couldn't resist and did a FRER test just and couldn't believe my eyes.. is this an evap line and I should put the tests away and wait another week?

Thoughts to those who haven't had good news recebtly.. it sucks big time x

WishingonaStar77 · 11/11/2018 14:11

This is it.. I think you can just about see it x
