I don't know much about it I'm afraid but it sounds like an opportunity worth looking into

Alibaba2 · 29/06/2018 21:22

Yes! My friend is having it done this ivf cycle. It’s supposed to be quite painful but I would be tempted if it was free. Is it under general anaesthetic then? (Otherwise how would they offer placebo)?

Hobbes39 · 29/06/2018 21:24

@CritterTamer - as others have said some sharp pains are pretty normal, so try not to worry. If you get any watery brown discharge or shoulder tip pain as well though, call your doctor as could be a sign of ectopic. But just the pain alone and no bleeding etc isn't a bad sign.
You could also be getting pain in your ovaries from the egg collection - especially likely if you are pregnant as HCG in your system can bring on OHSS if you were at risk of it at all (high number of eggs collected / high level of estrogen at egg collection). If you get any abdominal swelling, shortness of breath etc then you might have it and so again should call your doctor. I had mild OHSS with my last cycle and looked about 5 months pregnant the day I had my BFP. It can be dangerous if severe and not treated, but if treated it's nothing to worry about. Drink loads! I think you are pregnant, you have all the signs, but I don't want to be wrong and have got your hopes up! Good luck!

CritterTamer · 29/06/2018 21:34

@Hobbes - thanks for the advice. I have had pain under my right shoulder blade a few times yesterday and today but think it would be far too early to feel that in an ectopic? I do have some ovary pain but this earlier awful pain and constant pulling and twinging is too close to centre I think to be ectopic or ovaries. Pretty sure there was no risk of OHSS anyway as I only had 8 (huge!) follicles drained. Been read8ng today a lot of posts about people who said the progesterone did prevent their period from coming so not so convinced that’s a good sign anymore 😔

As for Endo scratch - yes I’ve been offered this in next IVF cycle if implantation fails this time. It is supposed to be very painful - I don’t think it’s done under anaesthetic just sedation. It will also cost me an extra £200!

CritterTamer · 29/06/2018 21:36

@Hobbes39 - also meant to say I have had shortness of breath too, but no abdominal swelling - should I be worried and call my clinic?

Hobbes39 · 29/06/2018 21:43

@CritterTamer - you could still be at risk of OHSS - I only had 9 follicles and had it, (albeit mildly) so it is possible (particularly with a BFP). It's a build up of fluid where it shouldn't be... Mine resolved on its own with drinking lots of water (to flush t all out) but it's something to keep an eye on if you do start to feel bloated Smile.
Re ectopic, it's less likely than OHSS - so try not to worry too much, but if you start to feel like something isn't right and your pain is one sided then do call them up if if just for reassurance. X

Hobbes39 · 29/06/2018 21:47

Oh and @littlemimosa - I haven't had endo scratch but do know people who have and it's meant to be particularly good if you have issues with building a thick enough lining. They literally scratch your endometrial lining to encourage it to repair and grow... I believe it's very uncomfortable indeed at the time, but you recover quickly.

Chatbash72 · 29/06/2018 22:20

CritterTamer pulling, tugging, aches and pains are very normal, also so is the wetness.. had it with my little girl, kept going to the loo thinking af was arriving.. I'm sure everything is just growing and stretching..
welcome @Eloisa123
littlemimosa you are not at all selfish for wanting a 3rd.. it's an instinct and yes an ache... I know it's hard to ignore the over opinionated.. but it's your body and no ones else's.. but you are amongst very like minded ladies here.. who are rooting for you..
💕💕

littlemimosa · 29/06/2018 22:47

Thank you Chat 💕that is so nice to hear. You are making my cry. I’m very emotional at the moment though so don’t worry! I appreciate you all so much. I wish we could all get together and drink wine and chat in real life.

I’m really not liking the sound of how painful the scratch sounds! Ali - I’m not sure yet how they administer the placebo, I’m waiting for a call back from the nurse so it’ll probably be Monday now. I’m in two minds. Part of me will try anything and the other part thinks it’s so unnatural why upset my womb.

Critter - hope you’re ok hun. It must be messing with your mind all this. You’ve had good advice from Hobbes on what to do. Hope you’re resting up x

Clara101 · 30/06/2018 10:23

Hi all,

I’ve not been on for ages but wanted to say hello. You’re not crazy at all for wanting a third mimosa. Best of luck to Critter and others in the tww.

I’m 45 and trying to accept that my third probably won’t happen.. but it’s hard!! Gave up supplements and started drinking coffe3 again. Now I:knackered til I drink a daily coffee so thinking of giving up again...!

Hugs to all

Eloisa123 · 30/06/2018 11:23

hi everyone, glad you found the link useful. It was a real turnaround for me. It made me realise we have the resources inside us and no-one else should have power over us, whether through negative comments, stats or anything like that. I've got a 4 year old and been trying for about 2 years...with one miscarriage earlier this year. Have a lovely weekend, everyone.
Oh, Mimosa - an interesting quote for you: 'when you think it's finished...sometimes that is just the beginning!' xx

Cleozeta · 30/06/2018 12:58

I have made a decision. If Critter gets a bfp this cycle, I'm signing up to a private clinic!
I want to do it while there is still a chance for me and don't want to waste this limited time left trying naturally if it's not going to happen. If it works then that gives me hope that its a good option!

Good luck critter let us know how it goes!!

CritterTamer · 30/06/2018 13:07

@Cleozeta - wow now I feel under pressure LOL. I’d really like to be able to say I’m hopeful, but to be honest I’m not anymore at all. I think mainly because the boob pain has mostly gone away, just getting the odd twinge, stab or tender area here and there now then it goes again. I think if implantation had happened they should be getting worse not better?

Struggling to decide whether to test tomorrow or leave it til OTD day on Tuesday. Been reading some IVF forums and many posters saying they had BFNs right up to OTD date - I guess there’s a reason they give us a date to test on! On the other hand I really don’t want to have to go to work on Tuesday morning after a BFN. Could do it Tuesday evening I guess.

@Clara101 welcome to the group xxx

Hobbes39 · 30/06/2018 14:32

@CritterTamer how many days post 5d transfer are you now? I would say that if you use a FRER then if you are 8 or 9 or more days post transfer then it will be pretty accurate for the vast majority of people. But I do understand the not wanting to test in case it's not good news... xx

Hobbes39 · 30/06/2018 14:38

Also, Meant to ask - are you 'unexplained' or was there an issue that IVF helps get round?
@Cleozeta - being 'unexplained' myself (although I have signs of endo) my non scientific sample of people I know who have been through ivf seems to show that those who have an issue like PCOS / male factor / low ovarian reserve/ blocked tubes etc have been successful much quicker than those in the unexplained camp... I am the only person I know in real life that has been though as many cycles and doesn't have a baby at the end though, everyone has got there eventually.. albeit after many cycles in some cases. One word of warning I have is that it's hard to stop once you start.... that's what I'm struggling with at the moment. But yes, at least I can say I gave it everything. X

littlemimosa · 30/06/2018 14:54

Thank you Eloisa, again that brought tears to my eyes💘 I do get hope from that. I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. That must’ve been hard. By the way I’ve ordered her book! It’s less than a pound second hand on Amazon:-) have you read Inconveivable?

Critter - I think you’re just second guess everything now. Understandably so! I can see your dilemma re testing and work. Realistically if you got a bfn would you be able to go into work? Im trying to help you decide whether to test this weekend or not. Would it be better to have your meltdown at the weekend? Not that it will be a bfn of course!!

Welcome back Clara. Thanks for saying I’m not crazy. I’m doing a lot of soul searching right now so it helps that some people understand my feelings x

weasledee · 30/06/2018 15:02

Critter I'd test tomorrow and if it is a BFN then I can have that day at home to adjust.... however if it were too early then you'd have the pleasure of a positive later in the week, rather than the negative on the Tuesday and then have to face work. Like others have said a FRER tomorrow would be pretty decisive I reckon...

Orchid222 · 30/06/2018 18:12

I've read that we have increased fertility for 3 cycles after a mc so that's what I'm giving myself, if I'm not pregnant by September I'm also going for ivf

OP posts:
Orchid222 · 30/06/2018 18:13

CritterI agree with Weasle, I'd also test tomorrow

Alibaba2 · 30/06/2018 18:19

Hey Clara - nice to hear from you!

I have the book The Fertile Female - I did the visualisations and then had a near pregnancy straight away. But I like her approach.

Critter - go with what feels right and good luck!

Alibaba2 · 30/06/2018 18:22

Critter - do you see the clinic for a blood test on Tuesday or did they ask you to test at home?

Hobbes39 · 30/06/2018 18:35

@Orchid222 - is there any evidence that the high fertility 3 months after mc is true? I'd love to see it... for me so far it's not been but I'm still hopeful (even though I know last time I didn't ovulate the cycle after mc)

CritterTamer · 30/06/2018 18:47

@Hobbes39 - tomorrow will be 11dp5dt. No specific issues found except for short LP (10 days) and when we did an ultrasound earlier this year my lining was a bit thin at 6.8mm. No idea if it’s always that thin or if it was just that month but it was 9.5 for the IVF cycle so no problem there this time. All hormone tests etc were fine - it was put down to age/egg quality.

@Alibaba2 - nope no blood test they gave me a one step to do at home. Think they will do follow up blood tests if there’s a BFP.

I don’t have a FRER - no shops near me seem to sell them so all I have is the one step the clinic gave me and one of those crappy CB plus sign ones. Maybe 8 will use that tomorrow just to get it over with and save the one step for Tuesday.

Cleozeta · 30/06/2018 20:34

Critter I would test tomorrow, get any drama (unlikely scenario) out of the way while you have a day off then on Tuesday you will be prepared so bette do deal with things if it does not go well.

Hobbes, that is interesting about the unexplained thing. My friend was unexplained and she went through a fair few rounds of IFV before finally having a successful one, but it did work eventually. My reason for doing IVF is fully explained. It's age, and potential low egg supply.
Orchid - I'm thinking September too, as it'll be 3 months since mc and the children will be back at school. We could be IVF buddies!

Mimosa I hope you are feeling better about things today.

Cleozeta · 30/06/2018 21:30

Urgh, got AF cramps today, only 6dpo, I hope AF is not coming a week early, that would be sad.
