I thought we could keep each other company while we wait!

Your age/DH age: 29/39
Baby #: This will be #2
When are you TTC: I think we should start in June when DS is 2 but we are so broody it might be sooner
Why are you waiting: We are doing some house renovations at the moment & sorting out some stuff financially. Everything seems a bit up in the air & I can only stress about a couple of things at a time. I'm looking forward to life settling down only to have a newborn mess it all up again Grin
What are you doing to keep busy?: I'm project managing house renovations & enjoying one-on-one time with DS before he (hopefully) becomes a big brother. DH & I are having a huge joint birthday party in September for my 30th & his 40th so I'm enjoying planning that!

happytobemrsg Sorrry to hear about your little one, hope he is doing better. Don't feel guilty, you can be an amazing mother to more than one child.

Aw dottydally hugs to you. Cancer is not stronger than all of us, it will not take everyone!! I hope your nana is getting the medical support she needs. Sending you both strength x
To keep your mind busy I'll answer your other questions too x I think in terms of flying, after 29weeks you need a letter (for single no complications pregnancy) but I'd like to be back by then, too risky otherwise!
My daughter is 1 now so by the time a babybrother or sister comes along she will be at least 2ish...I don't know how well she will understand things hehe.

Best to start folic sooner, there is no harm xx

dottydally · 14/02/2018 22:02

Thank you to everyone for being so kind it's been confirmed as lung cancer, but we are still waiting to see how they feel is best to try and treat it. Chemo is really rough on the body so it's also a case of making sure she is strong enough.

@Hofty I'm sorry to hear about your mum, but pleased to hear she is recovering!

@ladybug92 thank you for keeping my mind occupied! We will be ttc #1 so obviously I have no experience but I imagine that flights in late pregnancy would also be uncomfortable, safety aspects aside. We would like to get one more holiday in before a baby, but I'd happily go away whilst pregnant. Might just have to be careful of our destination, our usual favourites are zika zones!

Oh how exciting though!! It will be nice for them to be close together as they are growing up too.
Do you work or are you at home with your little girl? I'm so nervous about doing it at the wrong point in my career, but having to remind myself that there's never an absolutely perfect time at work!

Lilsquish · 15/02/2018 00:30

@mrsg - thats really scary about ur wee one! Glad everything is ok now xx

@dotty- awful news for you and your family. I hope its been found quickly and the treatment isnt too harsh xx

Re the folic acid, im sure i read/heard somewhere that ideally you take it for 3 months before pregnancy?? I might be making this up tho haha :-D

NoseringGirl · 15/02/2018 11:16

@Lilsquish I've heard that too, apparently it takes a while to build up in your system.

I've started doing OPKs, I really want to know if I'm actually ovulating. After years of irregular cycles they've finally started being regular recently and I've gone mad on the tracking Blush

Lilsquish · 15/02/2018 11:45

Thats great news noseringgirl

sprinkleofsunshine · 16/02/2018 22:07

When is/dis everyone start taking folic acid? I was thinking of starting to take a month before we start ttc? If we take a while to catch is it ok to be taking for a fairly long time?

Lilsquish · 16/02/2018 22:28

As far as im aware sprinkle its safe to take all the time.

Iv started this month. Wanting to TTC from may xx

BusterBluth21 · 16/02/2018 22:42

@sprinkleofsunshine I read somewhere you were supposed to take it 3 months before to give it time to build up in your system. We're ttc from May and I haven't started taking it yet so I should probably get a move on.

BusterBluth21 · 16/02/2018 22:42

Don't know where I read that though so may not be a reputable source!

I'm so rubbish at taking FA. I start off well then completely forget. I need to work it into my routine

happytobemrsg · 17/02/2018 08:55

DH was this close to saying to TTC this month. I'm glad we didn't considering how much else we had to deal with but I'm also slightly annoyed because my O signs were so obvious! Sorry if tmi but I produce quite a lot of CM so it's easier to track when to BD. When you're waiting to TTC & you see a fertile window passing you by its very frustrating

happytobemrsg · 17/02/2018 08:56

@BusterBluth21 I also read that. No idea where though....

RandomUsernameHere · 17/02/2018 10:39

Hi All, hope everyone is ok.
Just checked the NHS website and it says to take 400 mcg of folic acid every day while you are trying to get pregnant up until 12 weeks pregnant. So that would imply it's fine to take it before ttc, as some people get pg the first month and others take a lot longer.

NoseringGirl · 17/02/2018 11:06

People who try for years continue to take folic acid, it's perfectly safe.
I was also advised to continue taking it through my pregnancy. So last time around I took it for over two years altogether.
I've just ordered some so am going to start taking it as soon as it arrives.

@happytobemrsg I'm in my fertile window too and it feels like such a waste! Especially with all the tracking I'm doing.

Amyel · 17/02/2018 14:06

Hi, new to this. Me and my partner have been trying for about 8months now. I’m 31 he’s 38. It’s tough each month when Mother Nature makes her appearance!! I take folic acid every day my partner takes his daily vitamin. Iv tried eating healthy for months now totally changed diet exercise more. Has anybody got any tips please what they are trying. It does start to get you down after a while. Iv had 2 pregnancies in past but unfortunately lost them. When I was 18 and 21 and since then nothing 😔

CatsCatsAndLotsMoreCats · 17/02/2018 19:11

Hi, please can I join.

I think we are going to start ttc again in the summer. My last baby died not long after birth and we need to wait for the results from tests to make sure it isn’t anything hereditary and also for my MN/anxiety to be able to cope with another pregnancy. Obviously any baby we have won’t be a replacement but my arms ache so much that the only thing I feel will bring me any comfort is another baby.

NoseringGirl · 17/02/2018 19:30

@Amyel I think you might have more luck starting a separate thread. We're all waiting to start trying on this one so it might not be the best place to get your questions answered. It can take up to 12 months for a couple without any issues to conceive though so you might get lucky soon. I understand the worry though, time passes slowly when you're TTC. I find doing ovulation tests and charting my temps etc helpful in getting to know my body and understand my cycles. It makes me feel more in control. Best of luck!

@CatsCatsAndLotsMoreCats I'm so sorry for your loss, I can't even begin to understand how difficult that must be for you Thanks

CatsCatsAndLotsMoreCats · 17/02/2018 23:21

Thank you @NoseringGirl

happytobemrsg · 18/02/2018 08:17

@CatsCatsAndLotsMoreCats How devastating for you. About 50 years ago my mum lost her baby at around 7 months due to pre eclampsia. He was her second baby. Doctors were different back then - they told her that in order to recover she needed to get pregnant as quickly as possible. On their advice she had my big sister. As soon as she was born my mum's weight plummeted to less than 6 stone & it really messed her up. In my long winded way I'm just trying to say that you are doing the right thing taking some time before TTC again Flowers

So sorry cats xxx

@CatsCatsAndLotsMoreCats I'm so sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you Flowers

dottydally · 18/02/2018 10:55

@CatsCatsAndLotsMoreCats hugs to you Thanks

CatsCatsAndLotsMoreCats · 18/02/2018 13:08

Thank you everyone. It’s very kind of you.

Sorry to hear about your mum and brother @happytobemrsg and I can understand rushing into another pregnancy and think for some people it is what makes things easier for them but we are all different and it sounds as though your mum needed to grieve first of all.

mussie · 18/02/2018 13:22

Haven't read the whole thread, but I'd like to join!

Your age/DH age: 26/32
Baby #: 1
When are you TTC: probably July/August
Why are you waiting: I've just started a new job, and won't qualify for maternity pay until May. And an LMP in May or June would result in an EDD that would be a bad time of year for DH's work, so waiting for another month or two after that. Though that's under the assumption that we could possibly conceive on first cycle, but I'm swithering about whether we should just start in May/June anyway, because the chances of actually conceiving on first attempt are so small!
What are you doing to keep busy?: the new job is taking up a lot of mental headspace, and then planning a redo of the garden in March and also a big transatlantic holiday in July, so I have those to plan whenever I get too into picking which crib I'm going to buy 🙈

Nice to meet you all! Now to read the rest of the thread Smile
