We maxed out our last thread, so I've started another one for us!

Welcome, all those over 35 who are ttc number 1! Whether you're just starting out or you're an old-timer, come and chat with others who know what it's like to feel as though time is not on your side. When you feel like all your friends and family your age already have children and you need someone to moan to, we are here!

Hope you enjoy it, Dark! I'm off for session number 3 now. It makes me feel good for doing something, you know?

Yesterday I was convinced I was preggers, today I'm convinced I'm not. Funny how it changes day to day. Not even going to bother testing at the weekend though, will just wait for af to show!

Soooo I did a test this morning - a regular Boots one, not an early one and I think I can see a squinter. I’ve only ever had stark white blank ones before... I’m not going to post a pic as I don’t think it’ll show up & I don’t want to upset anyone either... But I might pick up some FRERs & try again tomorrow. Not told a soul apart from you lot! Good luck everyone getting needled.

keepinghopeful · 13/02/2018 11:02

Oohhhh @Melamine fingers crossed!! How exciting!!

Blondcat · 13/02/2018 11:10

@melamine fx for you

79andnotout · 13/02/2018 12:27

Very exciting @Melamine - fingers crossed for you!

Doctors appointment tomorrow to discuss my proliferative phase brown spotting. I had seven days of it this cycle.

Darkstar4855 · 13/02/2018 18:28

Fingers crossed @Melamine!

Hope the appointment goes ok @79andnot out.

Melamine · 14/02/2018 08:01

Well. I’ve just tested again with a FRER (first time ever using one) and it’s not a squinter, the line is almost as strong as the control. You guys, I’m in disbelief. Been off the pill a couple of years ‘not trying’ with no results. Last one of my siblings, last one of my close friends... fingers crossed it sticks. Partner had transfixed grin of excitement mixed with utter terror, bless him.

Better register at the GPs eh? Only been 18 months since I moved!

I’m a bit of a hippy & I hope this is a run of luck for this thread!

Janefx40 · 14/02/2018 08:14

@Melamine yay! It seems BFPs are like buses - we don't get one for ages on this thread and then 2 come across at once!

Many congrats! Xxx

Darkstar4855 · 14/02/2018 08:23

Congratulations @Melamine, fab news! Fingers crossed we can make it a hat trick at least this month Smile

keepinghopeful · 14/02/2018 08:28

Brilliant!! Congrats @Melamine !!

Shk38 · 14/02/2018 09:00

Congratulations! Hope your luck carries through to the group. I’m new to the group. TTC #1 currently in 2ww phase. First serious attempt so playing the waiting game. Good wishes everyone x

Melamine · 14/02/2018 09:50

Thank you guys. Terrified & excited.

79andnotout · 14/02/2018 10:21

Fantastic news! Really pleased for you @Melamine!

Thanks @Darkstar. It seems my spotting indicates hormonal changes due to advanced age. My cervix looks fine (except very bloody as she noted - ovulation today so no chance any sperm can get through that), no growths on it so that's a relief. I'm booked in for an ultrasound and some blood tests. I think IVF is likely the only hope now, but I'd have to wait until TTC for a year (policy in our area even with over 35s), and then it will take a couple of months for a referral, so that wont be until the end of this year. I'll be well into age 39 then. I already have a lowish AMH of 8. I have savings so could self fund IVF, but not sure I want to. I guess I'll wait for the rest of the results to come back and take it from there. I'm pretty okay about this result. It's not really great to hear you're entering perimenopause, but I was kind of expecting it.

Janefx40 · 14/02/2018 12:09

@79andnotout sorry about your news. It must be hard to hear even if you were expecting it. IVF sounds scarier than it is - it can be expensive but depends where you go. If you want to talk about it, get in touch any time. Xx

79andnotout · 14/02/2018 12:34

Thanks @Janefx40 - good to hear. We have another counselling session coming up next week so I think it will be a good topic to talk over with him, as he is pretty good at picking out and organising our thoughts. Thanks for the offer of a chat, if it comes to IVF I will take you up on that!

Sunshine19 · 14/02/2018 14:40

Congratulations @Melamine!! I hope the next 9 mths are happy & healthy for you! You said you’ve been trying for a couple of years. Did you do anything different this month? Exciting news! Xox

SoozC · 14/02/2018 14:59

Sorry you've had some disappointing results, 79. Big hugs Flowers

79andnotout · 14/02/2018 16:16

Thanks @SoozC! Feeling okay, just a bit older than I did when I woke up!

Melamine · 14/02/2018 16:31

I read up quite a lot about perimenopause @79 and it’s totally not impossible to conceive, but presuming you need to get to the bottom of the spotting. Fingers tightly crossed for you.

@sunshine19, just started actually trying in October instead of ‘not trying’ so timing it all right etc, kind of avoided FW before as OH wasn’t ‘ready’. Still nothing happened until now but we did use preseed this month. Could be coincidence though!

SoozC · 14/02/2018 16:42

I'm feeling old too, 79: another early 20s-cousin announced today they'd had a baby. I am feeling like a barren old thing, 36 and 24 cycles of ttc. So over it now. Wine

79andnotout · 14/02/2018 17:01

Yep @Melamine I think peri-menopause is fine, but the brown gunge that has replaced my EWCM definitely isn't good for sperm motility! Will see what the scans and blood tests say. It might be something that can be rectified temporarily at least.

Ah, @SoozC, that's crap. Realistically we are in the prime of our lives overall, but the signs of wear and tear are definitely showing on the outside, and it seems the inside may be even worse! Gin

Darkstar4855 · 14/02/2018 19:41

@79andnotout sorry it wasn’t better news. The whole IVF thing is a difficult one isn’t it? The financial/emotional/physical commitment weighed up against the possibility of failure. Still not sure whether I would want to go down that route if it came to it but it helps to hear @JaneFX40’s feedback, makes it sound a lot less scary than I’d imagined it would be.

Cobby81 · 14/02/2018 21:13

@melamine Congratulations. Lovely to have another BFP here. X

Cobby81 · 14/02/2018 21:27

@Darkstar4855 My first acupuncture is tomorrow too. We'll have to compare notes.
I am 3dpo so out of the active phase but not quite in the symptom spotting/desperation to poas.
@79andnotout good luck for the forthcoming tests.
@SoozC sending you big hugs

Darkstar4855 · 14/02/2018 21:51

@Cobby81 Indeed! 1dpo here so not far behind. Hoping the acupuncture will keep me a bit saner and more relaxed during the 2ww!
