Kwick, what a traumatic experience!!! Just reading you was stressful, I think I held my breath while I was reading!!! But I'm sooooooo pleased all is good in the end, that's an amazing news for the thread today SmileSmileSmile

StorkAhoy · 26/01/2017 10:17

what an excellent blow by blow account! I felt like Im there with you!
Also I thought the Jose thing was on purpose!

Im so pleased for you! How scared were you when they said 2 sacs?!?!?!!?

StorkAhoy · 26/01/2017 10:18

Also Im sorry it was traumatic, but that was high drama story telling!!!! bravo.

kwick · 26/01/2017 10:23

We (that is kwicklet and I) aim to please Grin
I need a stiff drink after all that!

stork in the matter of a short split second I had gone from blind panic to thinking about the joy of having 2! They back to panic as scanner could not find anything else.

OP posts:
StorkAhoy · 26/01/2017 10:43

I bet! Knowing that Im hopefully having 2 put back next time, in the hope that one works (as per Docs orders), Im trying to take the fear out of the twins situation.

So pleased for you though! xx

witchmountain · 26/01/2017 11:11

That sounds horrendous, I was holding my breath too! But good news! Is the next scan two weeks today? Must be so stressful waiting from scan to scan too. Sometimes work busyness is a boon!

witchmountain · 26/01/2017 11:14

Pez I could never get on with temping for ovulation and sleeping is pretty much my superpower, so I've still got my fingers crossed. Though as you say, getting it first time around really has to be a bonus!

Karendvm · 26/01/2017 11:46

Oh thank goodness kwick. I'm glad that went well. I have a retroverted uterus too, makes the scanning difficult sometime. Can't wait for your next scan!

MiriAmmerman · 26/01/2017 12:22

Congratulations kwick - so happy for you! Flowers

Haven't posted for a few days. Nothing to report really (DP and I haven't tested or temped at all during 2ww) - so the first we will know is tomorrow. DP is having blood taken at 9.40; clinic will call us in the afternoon. In previous cycles they've always ring between 4 and 5pm, so that's what we're expecting. (Pez don't panic if the afternoon seems to be dragging and they haven't called Grin) It's been a long 2 weeks and tomorrow will be an even longer day Sad We deliberately don't test because we find it stressful, but it's still almost impossible not to symptom spot. In all 4 previous cycles we've found reason to believe that it could be positive (sore boobs, cramping, nausea, you name it...), and 3 of those were BFN. Most of the 'symptoms' seem to be caused by the progesterone and our intense wishful thinking.
DP has something different this time though - a very strong metallic taste in her mouth. Determined not to get hopes up though because we're so drained with it all.

MiriAmmerman · 26/01/2017 12:24

Oh and re: OPKs, we have never used ClearBlue. The last thing we want is a 'window' of a couple of days - we want an unambiguous result! We've always got on well with cheapo ones. DPs favourite are Sainsbury's own. We've never missed an LH surge much good it's done us

Latenightreader · 26/01/2017 13:11

Oh goodness kwick I was holding my breath when I read that!

Pez I live in Manchester! I hope you have a great time. As long as AF holds off until the 11th of Feb I'll start IVF (or rather ICSI) in Feb. If it starts before I'll be waiting until March due to my clinic's spring clean...

INeedNewShoes · 26/01/2017 13:29

Blooming heck Kwick - that sounds horribly stressful.

But, good news Grin I'm so pleased that everything is looking good!

kwick · 26/01/2017 16:40

Fanks everyone - feeling very loved up Grin

Miri it is SO hard to not symptom spot and I really admire the strength you guys have in not testing! My FC only tests if you say you have had a BFP on an HPT. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you both.

I am going to slink off early today as I have an appointment at Boots for some new glasses... and I may just leave a bit earlier than needed and do some retail therapy!!! I feel absolutely drained... I have been good though and done a lot of my to do list. I am doing another day trip to Paris tomorrow so another early start - I must remember to go well wrapped - the train was freezing on Monday.

Late I really hope the timing works. May I ask why you are having ICSI?

OP posts:
Latenightreader · 26/01/2017 17:02

The doctor recommended I try ICSI rather than IVF - she said it had a higher chance of success. Looking back I probably should have questioned her more, but the appointment was a bit of a blur. She has also recommended that I am have the transfer under sedation (can't remember if I mentioned that earlier) because of the difficulties they've had in the past. I go in on the 8th to collect the drugs and learn how to administer them, and then it is all up to my hormones for timing...

Latenightreader · 26/01/2017 17:02

Has anyone else been recommended to try ICSI rather than IVF?

Pez82 · 26/01/2017 17:44

I tested again and got another BFN - not even the faintest line....I just hope AF shows up tomorrow so I can focus on cycle #2

Miri, I'll be crossing my fingers for the both of you tomorrow. I have my appointment at 11:40 but really it's just £30 thrown out of the window as I'm 99% sure of the outcome

I'll have a big glass of wine tonight!!

witchmountain · 26/01/2017 18:08

Pez enjoy the wine and make a toast to your first try, whatever the outcome tomorrow. At least you've started! Am disappointed for you though.

Miri good luck tomorrow, I don't think I said that.

Late I was booked for IVF after both my egg collections and that's what I had after the first egg collection. Just after the second egg collection they recommended ICSI rather than IVF because they said the sperm didn't look like it had defrosted well (all £950 of it!!). I told them to go ahead and expected to be charged extra because they made it clear up front that ICSI was more expensive. By that point I'd spent so much I didn't want to jeopardise the fertilisation. But several months later they haven't asked my for any more money so I guess they aren't going to!

Obviously no way to know if it made a difference. I had a similar number of eggs collected both times, a similar number fertilised and a similar number made it to blastocysts. So maybe the ICSI helped if the sperm was worse the second time (same donor).

Not sure why they would recommend it in advance of seeing the sperm. Or eggs - anyone know if they use it to egg through through tough eggs sometimes? I know if you freeze eggs you have to have ICSI because to freeze the eggs they have to strip off the outer layer which means they then can't be fertilised just by sperm swimming up to them when they are defrosted.

pickle162 · 26/01/2017 18:29

So I tested at lunchtime and got a 😊(Boy do I love that smile)then did my experiment when got in from work and got positives with CB/internet cheapie/boots one. I usually only have lunch time then late afternoon positive miri I don't usually get a few days. I think the expensive(er) one tells you more and could get confusing.

OMG kwick sounds so frigging traumatic! I'm going to have a pizza and cocktail for you.xx so pleased was ok in the end and nice to have another scan in 2/52 but with less of the stress hopefully!!!!!

late I thought ICSI was used when there is an issue with magic potion - that is why I asked? But I have a terrible memory so don't mind me.

Sorry pez Flowers

OP posts:
pickle162 · 26/01/2017 18:42

Good luck tomorrow miri
Sorry it wasn't a positive pez Sad

StorkAhoy · 26/01/2017 18:59

latenight ok, so I'm doing ivf. I'm using the FCs sperm bank, and their policy is: if their sperm is defrosted and not performing well, they do icsi for free otherwise if I was to opt for it upfront it would be an extra £1000. Now while there is a higher chance of fertilisation, it does come with a higher chance of miscarriage simply due to the potential of rupture post icsi. Now what the stats really are specifically, I can't recall, but it's high enough that the clinic have to state the risk.

That being said, my friend who is pregnant with twins had icsi and obviously everything was grand!

I'm sure it's all good, but I hope your FC explained the risks to you. It's also quite unusual to opt straight for icsi, have you had other treatment previously? I'm sorry I can't recall!

CautionHormone · 26/01/2017 19:00

Ever - thank you for your post, it was really helpful!
Sorry to hear you had cysts too - that's the main reason I got sent to a gynaecologist, because I had a cyst on my ovary - but that dispersed by the time I saw him two months later, but because I was still getting a lot of pain he has said about endometriosis. I'm under Mr Von Widekind too!! It's such a small world! I'm under him in Three Shires though - I had a choice whether I wanted there or NGH, so obviously I opted for the former.
My pains are water infection like. I keep being tested for water infections but they keep coming back clear - which can only lead me to think it's the suspected endo. Mr Widekind wants me to lose 1 stone first though, as I'm a bit overweight (BMI of 35/36) but I'm on the track of losing it. I see him again on the 2nd Feb!

Sorry I missed your birthday tygr. Hope you had a great day!

pez I'm sorry you got a BFN Sad enjoy your wine tonight!

kwick that's great news! Bet you can't wait for your next scan now, eh?!

Good luck tomorrow miri!

hoping, the diet is going well thanks... I got on the scales this morning and Ive lost the 3lb I put on and and extra 2lb?! WTF?! I'm so confused because that's a lot to lose in a short space of time but I double checked, so I'm not complaining! I've lost a total of 8lb (was something.9, now I'm something.1 Wink )

HopingForALittleOne · 26/01/2017 19:10

Well done caution I know it's not easy so you have really well

So glad kwick your scan went ok yay!!

miri good luck for tomorrow

pez so sorry to hear it's another BFN hope AF starts soon so you can start cycle 2 xx
