A place for all those trying for their first who didn't know their OPKs from their BBTs, their EWCM from their FRERs and everything in between before discovering Mumsnet!

If you're that glorious mix between excited about getting that elusive BFP and terrified - this is the place for you Smile

basset I searched every shop in my town for a frer on Saturday and couldn't find one anywhere unfortunately! I wish I'd got a few online before so maybe worth thinking about. Good luck for you!

eva well done on the opk! Don't count yourself out yet. I got +opk on the Tues and didn't dtd but did weds & Thurs and it worked for me :). Going by temps I didn't actually ov til the Thurs so if you get one in tonight it'll be fine!

Sorry for bfn again pj :(. How many dpo do you think you actually are if ff is wrong? What's usual lp for you?

I'm 4 weeks pregnant today at last! I don't think I'll test so early next time, it's the slowest week ever. Af would be due tomorrow/Saturday if it was coming so I'll start to relax a bit then I think who am I kidding

Pyjamas81 · 29/09/2016 17:12

Amazon do next day delivery on FRERs Grin

Hurrah for four weeks pregnant mojitos! Will be nice when you can relax a bit Smile

If FF got it wrong, I reckon I'm about 13dpo and my lp is always 14 days regardless of how long cycle is. If I ov'd around the time of the second random positive OPK result that means we would have dtd the three days before second positive result, but not on that day or after it (we were knackered and very much over dtd!!). So chances would be slim if my theory is right Sad

Thanks Pyjamas81 :) I've been using the IC ones only. I don't feel like I can justify the cost of the digi ones! Helps me feel better though to think it's just the IC missing it and not me thats the problem!
Do you expect to get a positive result at least one day/test a month? Have there been any months you have had negatives every day? x

Tinkerbell2319 · 29/09/2016 17:39

Hi mol I'm pretty new too just joined MN this week but have been increasingly addicted to google for about 3 months Hmm

Yay moonlight that's exciting news! Hope you can relax a bit soonSmile

Pyjamas81 · 29/09/2016 17:45

I have got a positive every month mol and randomly twice this month. But, the days I get a positive have ranged widely from CD8 to CD20 so I basically start testing right after AF leaves the building as my ovulation day varies so much and I don't want to miss it. When do you start testing in your cycle?

OP posts:
Mol5 · 29/09/2016 17:52

Ha I tried to curb the obsession Tinkerbell and avoid forum and google stalking for as long as possible but I've caved! Although I now need to quickly learn the acronyms Confused

PJ I did 5 cycles without testing at all, then cycle 6 I tested CD 10 - CD 16 and this cycle 7 i've done it every day since AF finished and i'm on CD 18 now, i'll keep going all the way through! Is it worth checking morning and evening? (clutching straws)

Pyjamas81 · 29/09/2016 17:57

I test morning and evening Mol as I've had negatives in the morning then super positive in the evening, then back to negative the following morning. The surge can be quick!

Tinkerbell2319 · 29/09/2016 17:57

Mol I'm still trying to get my head around the acronyms too tbh haha

MouseLove · 29/09/2016 18:08

Whats a FRER??
Blush

Pyjamas81 · 29/09/2016 18:09

It's a First Response Early Response pregnancy test Smile

OP posts:
MouseLove · 29/09/2016 18:23

Ohhhhhhhh thanks Pyjamas!! How early can they detect??

I should probably read up on these things. So it's 8-10 days after doing the jiggly that you implant. After that it's another 2 weeks until you can POAS?? #TotallyClueless #WingingIt

Pyjamas81 · 29/09/2016 18:28

Well they claim to be able to give you results 6 days before period due, but I am dubious!

Yep - about that time to implant but I think the two weeks starts day after ovulation day! #alsowingingit

OP posts:
MoonlightMojitos · 29/09/2016 18:29

mouse you can start testing about 3 days after implantation roughly but the longer you wait the better as takes a while for hcg to build up (and the hcg doesn't start until implantation). So it's about 2 weeks in total with the time for implantation then a few days before testing. And frers are the most sensitive but they don't actually say how sensitive anywhere I don't think? Maybe up to 5 days before AF is due?

MouseLove · 29/09/2016 18:35

Thanks ladies. Lots to learn here. I'm still adamant that if AF doesn't show up by mid-late October I might give this POAS a go. DH wants me to do it a month after stopping the pill but I think it's too soon!! Ah well, still gonna try and relax for the next 3 weeks!!

Dodie2087 · 29/09/2016 19:07

Hi ladies, mind if i join? I've finally succumbed to joining a forum! I've been googling/reading others' post for a while now and think its time i got involved lol!

Im 29, recently been told i have Polysystic Ovaries, they prescribed clomid to try on CD2-6,! I got a positive OPK on CD14 (27th Sept), my partner is in the army but he managed to stay home until yesterday so we're hoping we've managed to time it right! 😊 So my dreaded 2WW has now begun!

What CD is everyone on atm?

And congratulations to all you BFP!!!

LisaSimpsonsbff · 29/09/2016 19:11

mouse you might also find that there are signs without poas. I thought I wouldn't know when I ovulated post-coil because I wasn't taking tests, but then it turned out that I produced a lot of EWCM (unfortunately at an entirely inconvenient time).

Pyjamas81 · 29/09/2016 19:15

Welcome Dodie! And fingers crossed for you! What cycle are you on?

I'm on CD29 and either on 16dpo or 13dpo (got positive opks twice this month!) and BFNs so far. Testing again tomorrow if AF doesn't show.

Welcome dodie mol and tinkerbell
dodie I'm on cd14. Can I ask, how did you know/suspect you had pcos? I have a lot of the symptoms and my aunt has it but I have very regular cycles?
moonlight ooo that's good to know about your timing, tonight and the next 3 nights it'll be then!

Dodie2087 · 29/09/2016 19:38

Thank you pjs! Iv actually lost count of what cycle im on as this has been going on for several years now 🙈 How long are your cycles usually? Good luck with testing tomorrow!

Hi Eva (btw, how do you tag names? All very new to this!) lets just say me and my partner havent used contraception for 4 years and i've never got caught! We kept saying if it happens it happens, and then started questioning why it hadn't happened yet 😂🙈 so we went through all the fertility testing in February and only just got told this month that i have PCOS! I feel so relieved that i have an answer and also that they can help!

My cycles ranged from 28-35days, not too unregular! I suffer really bad PMT, i can feel pain in my ovaries before AF its like i can feel the cysts bursting lol. Also laser hair removal hasnt quite worked for me 🙄 It just always grows back!! What are you symptoms?

Eva30 · 29/09/2016 19:52

The name with on either side will put it in bold dodie*
Ah that's really interesting - so you have quite regular cycles too then? Mine have been 28,29 and 32 days since stopping the pill in April.
Symptoms, bad acne on chin and chest - this was originally why I went on the pill as a teenager and completely stopped it and now has come back. Sorry tmi but the spots are really big, painful and ugly, sometimes on my neck too. As a teenager I only had periods every 3 months or so, went for a scan but never heard anything and then the pill obviously regulated everything. Bad dandruff (again with spots on my scalp), put on a bit of weight since stopping the pill but maybe that's just down to that. I've booked an app with GP for weds but doubt they'll do anything until I've been trying for a year. I have regular LH surges around cd15 though so that's positive, but does that definitely mean you're ov? Or could it just be a surge but ov not possible? I'm probably reading way too much in to everything.

Dodie2087 · 29/09/2016 20:57

Ah thank you Eva !
Yeah they wont usually test you until you've been trying unsuccessfully for atleast a year, or if time isnt on your side! No, surges don't necessarily mean you ovulate. They can check ovulation by doing a CD21 blood test, it tests for progesterone and from the levels they can confirm whether you ovulated or not. Im due to have that done on Tuesday, so i'll know whether this first clomid cycle has helped me ovulate and whether we dtd at the right time! Who knew getting pregnant would be so difficult 🙈 Im keeping happy and hopeful anyway, stress isnt your fertility friend! Lol

Anyone else have their partner work away? Makes this even more of a mission impossible lol. For all you lucky ladies who have their partner at home, have you tried to tdt every 1-2 days, throughout the whole cycle? Has that worked out?

Tinkerbell2319 · 29/09/2016 21:10

Dodie that's the approach me and DH have gone for this month so ill let you know in a couple of weeks haha

Pyjamas81 · 29/09/2016 22:36

My cycles have varied a lot since coming off pill in May Dodie - first one was 33 days, second was 21, third was 34, fourth was 23, and this one is currently on CD29. All depends on when I ovulate, luteal phase is always 14 days!

Well another bfn this morning and still no sign of af. My boobs are so painful this morning Confused my puppy just head butted me in one and I swore quite badly. Had a look in the leaflet for the asda test I did and it reckons it measures from 15 miu so who knows. Can't offer any help on cycle lengths as this is my first post pill month.

Eva Good luck with your GP appointment! I went in for a routine check up a while ago and mentioned we're TTC so my gp booked the blood tests (without me even saying anything)! But when I went in a bit later, another doctor was very annoyed (?!) the test had been booked as we'd only been TTC for four months at that point. My tests came back ok-ish - but next month we'll get DP's semen checked as I'm beginning to despair Sad

Sorry for BFN bassetmum, how many dpo are you?

I'm giving fertility acupuncture another shot next week. Has anyone else tried it? What are your thoughts on it?
