A place for all those trying for their first who didn't know their OPKs from their BBTs, their EWCM from their FRERs and everything in between before discovering Mumsnet!

If you're that glorious mix between excited about getting that elusive BFP and terrified - this is the place for you Smile

Woke up this morning feel like I might be sick. Poas and got a bfn. Sad Still no AF so not out of the game yet but frustrated as on cd 34.

MrsCW86 · 18/09/2016 08:52

Thanks Seahawk Smile hope you're enjoying your hols.

Welcome* newbies! Mouse I think the acronyms you're most likely to come across (as well as the ones basset* has already explained) are:

dpo - days past ovulation
opk - ovulation predictor kit
poas - pee on a stick (taking a hpt - home pregnancy test)
bfp/n - big fat positive / negative
fx - fingers crossed
bd - baby dance (=dtd)
AF - Aunt Flo (aka the bwitch)

Dr Google is a stress inducing quack, ignore him as much as is possible (easier said than done) eg I was googling earlier in the week why I could taste blood in my mouth and convinced myself I had gum disease (or was in liver failure)... Agree with basset to start popping folic acid sooner rather than later.

Lisa I can't really give you any advice as I have never had the coil but I guess it can take a while for your body to adjust - was it a hormonal one? When I came off the pill last year it took a few months for my cycles to settle down, but I actually fell pregnant before they did (although it ended in mc unfortunately). So don't stress about it taking months to have normal cycles - irregular cycles won't stop you getting pg.

MrsCW86 · 18/09/2016 08:53

Wow what's with all the bold?! Hmm

Notyetthere · 18/09/2016 09:08

MrsCW - congratulations! Here is to a different kind of symptom spottingGrin

I too used the same ics and I got the faint line on 10dpo, got a slightly less faint line on the tesco one and perfectly visible one on a frer on 11dpo.

Eva30 · 18/09/2016 09:20

Falling over laughing at Google saying you're in liver failure mrsCW!Grin it's dangerous Google when you're looking for answers! So which cycle were you on again? When's your due date? So exciting, hope to be joining you soonSmile

Welcome lisa and mouse and yeah just as the others have said. Worth downloading an app to start with to track your cycles - most people seem to use Ovia or Fertility Friend but there are lots out there.

monkey sorry for the bfnFlowers

seahawk have a great hol, I'm off on mine on Thursday (my 30th birthday Shock) can't wait! (For the holiday, not being 30)

Notyetthere · 18/09/2016 09:22

Lisa - When u came off the pill, I found it more reassuring and a little bit in more control by monitoring my levels of LH hormone to see if I could pinpoint ovulation. I just used the ic ovulation kits whichever you can gets lots for less than £5. That way even after AF arrived, I knew what the 1st cycle was, when I ovulate during that cycle. I never did detect any cm so the ics were my only sign. In the end after the pill , I ended up with 30 day cycle and a 29 day cycle where I got a bfp in the 3rd cycle.

MrsCW86 · 18/09/2016 09:59

Sorry monkey must have x posted, what test did you use? Will you test again? So weird that you're feeling sick - would you normally feel sick before af?

Thanks notthereyet, I hadn't even thought about the symptom spotting Confused have you had many symptoms yet?

Eva I know, that's when I realised I needed to chill the eff out as I'm preeeeetty sure I'm not in liver failure!! This was cycle 3 of trying again, had a break after the mc but never went back on the pill so I think it's helped that I've had 11 months off it. I don't even know what my due date would be! I guess it would be middle of May ish?

LisaSimpsonsbff · 18/09/2016 10:13

Thanks for the advice! I'm really reluctant to do ov tests as I think it'll fuel my obsession, and I'm trying to stay relaxed! Not very successfully, though...

LisaSimpsonsbff · 18/09/2016 10:14

Yes, it was hormonal MrsCW. So sorry to hear about your mc.

NerdyViking · 18/09/2016 10:34

Lisa, I've just had my coil out (hormonal) and am tracking whether I ovulate or not with some pee sticks, just to get a feel for where I am hormonally - not sure whether to start TTC yet as I'm in a bit of a grey area re:job.

I'm also using ovia to keep track of things, finding it quite useful.

Hope it goes well for you! Xx

MoonlightMojitos · 18/09/2016 11:17

I've been away friday/Saturday with a friend so just catching up... congrats mrscw!!!!! How are you feeling?

3dpo and enjoyed having a bit of time away and a break from ttc! Also had a lot of wine Friday night (plus rare steak and brie lol) but figured 1dpo wasn't going to effect anything, now back to being really healthy.

Sorry still bfn monkey I hate when our bodies do this to us, it's so cruel!

MouseLove · 18/09/2016 11:19

Thank you everyone. You've settled my nerves. Think I might pop and get some folic acid tablets today.

I've had a delicate almost nervous tummy since stopping my pill on Thursday so I'm just waiting for AF now and then going to see what my cycles look like. Feel like I'm stepping into the unknown as I've not had a normal period for 12 years (that wasn't controlled by my pill) almost doesn't feel real that were actually TTC, it's been wanted so long. It's like I'm waiting for something bad to happen.

Thanks for abbreviations, so kind of you.

Pyjamas81 · 18/09/2016 12:17

Had boozy family BBQ yesterday so am just catching up - congratulations MrsCW!!!!!!! What brilliant weekend news Smile

Glad you've enjoyed your TTC break mojitos - it's nice to let our hair down once in a while as well!

I'm 5dpo at the moment - no symptoms so far! Have woken up from overheating the last couple of nights but may have been beer sweats lol

bassetmum · 18/09/2016 13:03

Good to see some fun being had Smile.

This might be a bit tmi but today I have had some lumps of cm when I have gone to the toilet. Its a little bit stretchy but looks almost beige in colour. Definitely not like the pictures of ewcm or like what I had at the beginning of the week! No idea what it could be, do any of you ladies have any ideas? Tried ole dr google (shouldnt have haha) reckons it could be linked to implantation but I would only be somewhere in the region of 5dpo if my pains were ovulation the other day so that would be too early surely?

MrsCW86 · 18/09/2016 16:59

Thanks moonlight and pjs - I'm feeling ok but just a little nervous! I poas again this morning and suspect I will keep doing so quite regularly for the next few weeks...

Your Friday sounds lush moonlight, I so wish cheese was a health food - I would be like a superhuman level of healthy if it was!

Haha pjs beer sweats Grin are you testing next week at some point then?

basset I'm not sure whether cm is a reliable indicator of implantation - I think beyond showing when ovulation is coming up/happening it can be quite variable for different women. Is it defo not semen?! But I might be completely wrong!

Ignore Dr Google he's a f*ckwit and will tell you anything if you ask him enough times... I spoke to my mum today and she thinks it's hilarious that I've even googled anything, 'oh we didn't have any of that when I was pregnant' yeah thanks mum, super helpful..!

bassetmum · 18/09/2016 17:23

I don't blame you for being a poas addict MrsCW. Cheese is a good food though. Lots of protein and calcium etc.

Yeah I need to stop overanalysing everything. I wouldnt think it was semen as we last dtd on Wednesday. Lifes got in the way since then haha. I guess we will just have to wait another week. I had a look at the hpt Ive got already. I've got an asda one which is from 4 days before and tesco ones from the day of. Just need to try and figure out when af is due haha.

RedBlu · 18/09/2016 18:51

Hi all,

I posted on here beginning of September and have been "lurking" since.

I posted I thought I was getting AF as my boobs were really achy, back ache. The usual. I came off Cezerrette after 10 years in April and have been TTC (relaxed approach) since then.

Well AF never arrived. I did a pregnancy test on Thursday and it was a BFP with very clear lines! Did another test the next day, BFP.

And to be extra sure, splashed out on a Clear Blue Digital (seriously, £10!?!) and it said PREGNANT 2-3

Freaking out!

I am a bit crampy, tired and very bloated - fun times!

Eva30 · 18/09/2016 19:14

Congratulations redblu! It's been a weekend of good news here!! I came off the pill in April too so hope it's coming up to my turn soonGrin
moonlight your Friday night sounds amazing!
mrsCW I'd do exactly the same POAS all the time, it must feel very surreal when you see that 2nd line!

Out of interest how long does AF visit everyone for? I'm on cd3 now and it's getting light. When I came off the pill in Apr she only came for 2 days to begin with, it's increased to about 4 days now.

Seahawk80 · 18/09/2016 19:16

Thanks Eva and MrsCW having a lovely holiday and managing to stay very chilled about TWW! Maybe we should always be on holiday for the second week of it!

Congrats Redblu v exciting!

Seahawk80 · 18/09/2016 19:19

Eva my AF is normally about 6-7 days, but with my messed up cycles I'm
Probably not the best example!

Love that everyone is letting their hair down a bit and not letting TTC take over! Smile

RedBlu · 18/09/2016 19:28

Thanks all. I am really nervous, i think it will feel more "real" once I pass 12 weeks and I will start telling people.

Eva30 - seeing as we stopped taking the pill around the same time, I had a "withdrawal" bleed about three weeks after I stopped taking the pill, lasted about a day and a half. Then nothing for about two months. When AF did arrive sometime in June it was
about four days. July was weird, around a week. It would stop then start up the next day, quite heavy then stop. Typically, happened on a day at work, bled through my knickers and a little bit through my jeans Blush

August never came Grin

RedBlu · 18/09/2016 19:30

Also meant to say, my cycles were WEIRD - longest was 56 days

MouseLove · 18/09/2016 20:40

Congratulations RedBlu, your post just made my belly flip!!!! Grin

Does anyone else get a really nervous feeling in their tummy? Im starting to get annoyed now, its almost kinda like a tingly AF feeling but I'm seeing nothing. Its only been bloody 3 days TTC and I'm already a mess hahahaha. Blush Need a slap!! LOL

Pyjamas81 · 18/09/2016 20:45

Eva - my AF has lasted 2 days, 3 days at a push since coming off the pill. I remember always being quite light and my mum's only ever last 2 days so am trying to to worry about it!

I'll be testing on the 27th MrsC - which will be 14dpo and we'll be on holiday!

Congratulations Redblu!

Sometimes I feel a bit guilty seahawk - but this TTC business is so infuriating, putting my life on hold and not having any fun would really push me over the edge! I've increased the healthy eating and lots of water to make up for it Smile

MoonlightMojitos · 18/09/2016 21:16

Definately a good idea to start on the folic acid mouse :). And we all know how you feel. We spend so long trying not to get pregnant it's so weird when you start actually trying!

pj I love that we've both fallen off the super healthy bandwagon together this weekend lol, agree it's nice to relax for a day or two once in to the 2ww!

Sounds like there is going to be quite a few of us testing around the same time. I'm trying to hold out until Thursday 29th but I expect I might cave by next sunday before then.

Congrats red great news!

eva the reason I went on the pill at 15 was to help with super heavy periods but since coming off mine seem to be lighter now than they were on the pill too! Mine do still last about 4 days with a 5th day of spotting but only a day of heavy then light. Sometimes nothing for an afternoon and then next morning back again! Very confusing.
