New thread for all navigating the bewildering world of trying to conceive after a miscarriage. Whether you have dc or are ttc your first, all are welcome here. We share the positive, the negative and the down right confusing.

Hello everybody, how are you all doing?

Can't remember the last time I posted, last month maybe? So little to say now because TTC is just going on and on and on, it's just becoming tedious! But finally plucked up the courage to make that appointment to discuss having been TTC for over a year now. Had to hold back tears while DTD yesterday because all I was thinking was what is the bloody point in this anymore so it is definitely time for me to start getting some tests done and hopefully some help!
Also made enquiries about fostering/adoption. I know if we go down that route we'll be expected to stop TTC so just looking in to it as an option right now.

Can't believe it's September already. October last year was when I conceived so if I hang on for another month, maybe it'll turn out to be my lucky month...

Congrats NewShoes! Need to do some reading back to catch up to where everybody is at but great to read some good news!

MrsAmelia · 02/09/2016 20:15

Insufficiently - I think it's good that you go seek medical assistance or do some exams - you never know what might be discovered.

Have you tried alternative forms of treatments this past year (like reflexology or acupuncture)? I've been reading up on this and there is some very solid medical evidence of the success of these methods used in helping to improve fertility or bring back balance to one's body in oder to conceive.

Sending you hugs ... and lots of warm wishes... Flowers

MrsAmelia · 02/09/2016 20:19

I decided to give in a half hour ago and POAS.

AF is due on Monday.

I'm in shock ...
I just got a BFP ...

I'm taking this cautiously because I do not want to get overly excited, but OMG!!! I have ZERO symptoms. I'm still doing acupuncture tomorrow - maybe it'll help me relax? It can't hurt, can it?

I don't really want to leave this board for a bit, so I hope that's ok? I agree with the other Ladies who said they're staying away from the DD boards.

Goodnight Ladies ... wishing everyone baby dust ... and lots of hot or romantic sex ...Flowers

TTC after miscarriage thread #6
SayItIsntSo1 · 02/09/2016 20:42

Hi,

Been lurking for a few days, hope I can join.

Had a MMC 3 weeks ago at 13.5wks, baby measuring 12 weeks. All a bit of a shock after easy conception and pregnancy with my daughter and 2 positive scans with this pregnancy. I posted a separate thread hoping someone had a similar experience as consultant said they thought they saw Hydrops on baby when they found the MMC but no responses yet... Sad

Think I got my period a few days ago (20 days post ERPC). Seems really early but had complications during ERPC and they had to contract my uterus as I lost a couple of litres of blood, so not sure if that made a difference. Felt like I was going to get my period the day before it started and not really had anything more than discharge/spotting since ERPC so going to call 3 days ago CD1 (?!).

Hoping to start TTC straight away. Have a follow up with the consultant in October but no one had said to wait, unless I missed it at the time.

Lovely to see lots of you getting BFPs. Here's hoping for more to come Wine or Cake if you're abstaining!

X

Hello say so sorry about your baby, that must have been very shocking. My baby was stillborn due to heart failure and hydrops but they had formed because she'd developed an irregular heart rhythm that midwifes didn't pick up and the strain on her heart caused the fluid to build up, so unfortunately I'm not help as its not something that I think would be similar to your baby's case, ours was a one in a million type thing. We started TTC straight away but we already knew what happened and why.

Congratulations amelia that's great news!

Sorry I've not been posting much, had loads on and I'm feeling pretty miserable this cycle just worrying about not ovulating, spending too much time feeling sorry for myself really!

MrsAmelia · 02/09/2016 21:50

SayIt & Alb1 ...

I'm so sorry for your losses.

I wish I could say something more meaningful...

I'm sending you both BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG hugs ...

Please remember ... you know you can conceive. Your body can carry a baby, so that in itself is a blessing. It's small comfort now, but you've got proof you can do it. Stay positive and take it step-by-step... Flowers

MrsY87 · 03/09/2016 07:19

Hi mind if I join? We are ttc#2, DD was conceived on cycle 1 so i naively thought it would be as straight forward second time round but it appears not. We conceived on cycle 5 and then I've just had a mc at 6 weeks... I'd felt like it wasn't quite right from the start as I thought I'd had my period and only tested as I recognised the same symptoms as I had with DD but am so sad about it.

Hoping to start ttc long again straight away, bleeding seems to have just about stopped... does anyone know when you can start using OPKs again after a mc? Do you need to wait for a bfn?

Congratulations mrsamelia!!

Brenna24 · 03/09/2016 10:56

Hi again IC. We are now at 15 months TTC and the 28th of August last year was when I got my first bfp. I was about due to test on the 28th august this year but already knew we had missed our window and it was so depressing. I say go and get tests done. At least then you will know what you are or are not dealing with. Flowers I brought up adoption to DH last month in the middle of the not managing to DTD during my fertile window episode. He won't discuss it until next year, although it has always been accepted as a possible plan. Our Plan A was have a couple of our own, then foster. Our plan B is adoption and then fostering isn't an option.

Congratultions MrsAmelia fingers crossed this is a sticky one for you.

Hugs alb It is a long rough road for us.

Welcome to the club nobody wants to be in SayIt and MrsY.

My fertile window starts monday and we have managed to DTD a couple of times already. Hopefully this month will go better than last month.

MoonlightMojitos · 03/09/2016 11:20

Af just got me... I'm really upset and not because I'm not pregnant this time but because this cycle was only 23 days (cycle2 after mc) cycle 1 was 26. So now I feel like I don't have a clue what's going on in there. Cycles before mc were around 29 days with ov on day 15. I thougth I ovd on cd13 this cycle but my lp can't have gone from 15 days to 10 can it? So I'm either ovulating really early or not at all? Going to get some opks now to hopefully figure out what's going on.

INeedNewShoes · 03/09/2016 11:25

Mojitos - don't panic. It can take a while for cycles to settle down again after a miscarriage. Mine have been two days shorter than they were before.

Vitamin B6 is supposed to help lengthen the luteal phase, so it might be worth taking a B6 supplement to try to get things back to a more normal cycle for you.

MrsAmelia - great news Smile

SayItIsntSo1 · 03/09/2016 13:52

Thank you for sharing Alb. I suspect we may never get many answers but I'm grateful for them even trying to find out.

Thank you for the lovely words of support MrsA and congratulations!

It all still feels very confusing at the moment. I got a very negative preg test 3 days ago and suspect it would have been negative a few days before that. Just braved an ov test hoping for a negative to confirm everything has reset (clear blue one) and it's positive?! Cant be right as it's way off any sensible day, unless my bleed hasn't been a period and still end of MC. Anyone else had positive ov test and it's just leftover preg hormones that are too little for the preg test to pick up? Confused

SayItIsntSo1 · 03/09/2016 14:44

False alarm! Tried another kit and it came up as negative. Must have broken the first one with obsessive use the week post MC... Blush

Means a clean slate though, which I thought I would be upset about but feel more relieved than anything that it's over.

INeedNewShoes · 03/09/2016 14:45

I found that if you don't eject the stick properly using the button after you've got a smiley then the next time you use it, a smiley face will come up. I twigged when this happened to me because the smiley was so quick to appear, I was immediately suspicious!

MoonlightMojitos · 03/09/2016 16:36

Thanks newshoes I just never thought it would be like this. I assumed it would just be the first cycle that was messed up :(. Just feel so unsure about everything now.

Brenna24 · 03/09/2016 22:19

Yes, I have Mrs. They took 5 vials of blood and sent them off for testing. I was tested for thyroid problems, blood clotting issues (if your blood is clotting too well you don't supply the placenta properly for it to form) (they tested my clotting ability and also did genotyping for known mutations in two genes which cause clotting disorders involved in recurrent miscarriage), lupus and anti-cardiolipin antibodies (either of those cause antiphospholipid syndrome where your body produces antibodies to cellular components and attack the forming embryo) and proteins C and S which are markers of inflammation. I think that was all off hand. They didn't order the anticardiolipin ones first time so they did the anti-phospholipid panel again. All of mine came back normal.

DH has requested a sperm analysis to check that. His can definitely swim as they are getting me knocked up. We are checking that there aren't morphology issues. We had to ask for that ourselves.

Next stage for us is to wait and see if I miscarry again. If I do I have to collect the products to get them genetically tested. This could be a problem if they are early miscarriages like my last two. So I have invested in a mooncup and am learning how to use it during my periods.

Fingers crossed that I get pregnant again and this one sticks and we never need the mooncup. But who knows.

I hope this helps.

Hazandduck · 03/09/2016 23:46

I'm so sorry mrsunsure I have been thinking about you since you posted earlier in the thread about your BFP. It is so fucking unfair but I hope you don't give up hope because women who have miscarriages still have such a high chance of going on to have a healthy baby. It will never replace the ones you lost but it is called a rainbow baby because it comes after the terrible storm. Sending you thoughts and hugs. Xx

Hazandduck · 03/09/2016 23:48

Brenna are those tests on the NHS? I wish they could just do tests like that before you even start trying and prevent people ever going through the heartbreak of miscarriage!! I know our economy would collapse at the expense but it just seems so needless sometimes for someone to suffer three miscarriages before some simple tests are done. :(

INeedNewShoes · 04/09/2016 00:51

I'm so sorry Mrs.

Look after yourself. Give yourself time and eventually you'll find the strength to try again. Flowers

MrsAmelia · 04/09/2016 05:48

Mrs - I think Hazandduck stated it perfectly, "I hope you don't give up hope because women who have miscarriages still have such a high chance of going on to have a healthy baby. It will never replace the ones you lost but it is called a rainbow baby because it comes after the terrible storm."

Don't give up. You're doing the right & logical thing by getting the tests done, just like Brenna is doing. The results may discover something key, but also give you peace of mind (hopefully).

Try to find your "zen" and happy place so you can move forward because there is every chance you will have your rainbow baby. Flowers

Sending you lots of warm wishes and hugs ... now go eat something yummy & naughty Grin Chocolate
