Aged 35 or over TTC #2?

1000 replies

RememberToSmile1980 · 16/05/2016 06:11

Hi ladies
I'm trying to conceive no. 2. My aim was to ttc from January of this year - however due to one thing or another (very stressful time at work!) I have not been giving it my all. I have now decided I need to focus on ttc no.2 as I am very conscious of the growing age gap! Please join for a friendly chat and to hopefully support each other!

Stats
Age - 35
Ttc - #2
CD - 21
DS - 3 years 10months!

Don't want to obsess about it! However I think it's inevitable!

Another day, another friend announcing their pregnancy over here. Plus it's a 'eeek i'm not sure how I feel as I already have twins and this wasn't planned' type announcement... Her head must be all over the place, I'm sure, but you've really got to wonder what's wrong with your body sometimes when some people only need to look at their husbands and they're up-duffed, whether they're on contraception or not!

I'm also readjusting myself and counting today as CD1. The last few days of spotting and nothing don't count (and I of course didn't cave and do a FRER test yesterday morning, and of course it was neg...)

Happy Tuesday all!

felineways · 23/08/2016 12:09

So the cbd today is now reading 2-3 not 3 + and ive totally stopped being sick. All in all not looking that promising. The waiting is horrid

BummyMummy77 · 23/08/2016 13:02

Oh Feline. Sad

SendTheNextOneIn · 23/08/2016 14:58

Flowers and Chocolate feline

Are you going to get yourself checked out?

emilyalbemarle · 23/08/2016 22:15

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if I can join you? I've been lurking for a while and I've read through all the posts. Big congrats to everyone who has had a bfp and huge sympathies to those going through a miscarriage.
I'm nearly 35 and desperately hoping for baby number 2. Our first is 3, and just happened without trying. Stupidly I thought it would be just as easy this time. We've been trying for a year now with no luck, but those 12 months have been horribly stressful with bereavements, new jobs, house move, court cases..... Needless to say I think that has played a part in us not being successful ttc! Fortunately life has settled down a bit now.
For the last month dh and I have been using opks and preseed, as well as dtd as often as a 3 year old allows! I'm currently in my tww.
As has been said many times, it feels like everyone else is pregnant atm, so it would be nice to have some company on what feels like a very lonely journey.
Tia!

Buddahbelly · 23/08/2016 22:34

Hi emily Have the same here, yet another person announced she was pregnant today, Its hard trying to show a happy face when all you want to do is scream it should be me! But i'm sure our time will come.

Im still waiting to ovulate, I was sure It would have been the past weekend but now the test just keeps showing the plain circle, so not sure whats going on with my body at all anymore.

feline symptoms come and go though don't they, and the change in weeks may be your body settling down to being pg and catching up with itself. There are so many symptoms that are exactly like being pg and af arriving so try (i now easier said than done) but try and relax about it all and not stress, can you plan some days out to keep your mind Occupied?

zahaziland · 24/08/2016 08:56

Welcome emily!
Sorry feline, I hope you get a clear answer as to what is going on (and hopefully it's all good).
I am waiting for AF to arrive, but I am not sure I ovulated this month. I did manage to dtd three times over what should have been my FW, so let's wait and see, but not feeling very confident.

emilyalbemarle · 24/08/2016 09:47

That's exactly it Buddah - where I currently work, there isn't another female of childbearing age who isn't either pregnant or has just had a baby. It's so hard when people ask why I've not got a second, or comment that I should be "getting on with it". Grrr.... It's almost as annoying as the advice of "just stop thinking about it and it'll happen" - how can anyone ttc not think about it?!
I'm glad I've found somewhere to vent my frustrations!

Buddahbelly · 24/08/2016 14:57

"just stop thinking about it and it'll happen" - now this is where ive been going wrong all this time! Hmm

Maybe we should add a section to that list of ridiculous things weve had said to us along the way.

Ill add to that one:

"Well jean's baby is nearly 2 and yours is nearly 3 and jean's already pregnant again so what's going on with you"

"Have you tried testing to see when you're ovulating" Hmm

emilyalbemarle · 24/08/2016 15:45

Lol, great idea Buddah - I've had the ovulation test comment too. Do people honestly think we've not thought of that?! I've also had suggestions that I just need to dtd in the middle of my cycle - again, that's rocket science! Makes me want to scream!

L00p · 24/08/2016 16:19

Hi, I have a question I hope someone can answer

I'm on CD18 and got a faint line on my OPK. I didn't test on CD16-17. Is there a possibility I that I already OV'ed on CD17 or will be about to on CD19 which explains why it's faint? I'm obsessing because my husband is away tonight and so hoping I've not missed my chance. I never usually see a link on the OPK at all.

Wow, I'm clutching at straws here... #becomingobsessive

zahaziland · 24/08/2016 21:48

L00p a faint line on an OPK is a negative, so it could mean that you already have ovulated, or that you haven't yet. You really can't tell much from one negative OPK.
As you may know, it is sometimes advised to test for O twice daily, and the hormone surge is quite brief, so some people may never detect a positive OPK if they only test once every 24 hrs.

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 24/08/2016 21:49

2 2nd pregnancy announcements today. One a friend at work who had a miscarriage earlier in the year so v happy for her. If my chemical pregnancy last month had lasted we would have had the same due date Sad
Other one was a little odd we were good friends before, after and during her last pregnancy (just a month ahead of me). Slightly naff message (team will now be a 2:2 formation etc) sent from the DH to my DH (they are long term mates) and nothing to me. I'll wait a few days to see if she gets in touch.
Dunno why I'm whinging just feeling a little sensitive at the mo I think!

emilyalbemarle · 24/08/2016 22:23

Sorry to hear about your day when, and feel free to whinge. A close friend who went through many cycles of I've explained it perfectly to me once - how it's not about not being happy for the other person who is pregnant, but instead about our own grieving for what we hoped for not happening. I found that to be a helpful perspective, rather than feeling guilty when every pregnancy announcement made me feel like I was being stabbed through the heart.
Not great about your second "friend's" announcement - is it possible she's not told you herself as she doesn't know how best to sensitively bring it up, or does she not know you are ttc?

emilyalbemarle · 24/08/2016 22:24

Oops, meant IVF, not I've. Grrr.... Autocorrect.

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 24/08/2016 23:08

Appreciate your kindness emily
She's not stupid so I'm sure she knows ttc is on the cards for us. I doubt the lack of contact is due to sensitivity around ttc just I would absolutely expect her to tell me her news directly rather than through football analogy filled text via my DH.

BummyMummy77 · 25/08/2016 01:51

Had another announcement myself today. A happy happy yay yay joy joy let's celebrate 2nd baby woohoo text. Yes thanks for toning it down when you know I've had over two years of ttc with a recent miscarriage.

Wtf is wrong with people?

BummyMummy77 · 25/08/2016 01:53

Flowers for bloody everyone.

felineways · 25/08/2016 08:28

Sorry for all suffering others insensitivity.

I'm officially back as bleeding started this am. Sad and pissed off. When I spent ages not getting pregnant first time I thought at least getting pregnant was a start. Now it seems staying pregnant is a battle :-(

BummyMummy77 · 25/08/2016 09:26

Feline I'm so sorry. Spoil yourself today. Is it painful at all?

jessplussomeonenew · 25/08/2016 09:40

Really sorry to hear that Feline, be kind to yourself today.

FannyDaggers · 25/08/2016 09:50

Flowers feline

CD1 here Sad however I shall give myself a shake after allowing myself a small wallow, I've got a night out on Saturday to look forward to and then back to it!

Unicorn1981 · 25/08/2016 09:57

Hi I'm 35 and also trying for number 2. My dd is 3 and a half. I have endometriomas on my ovaries so constantly thinking it won't happen but it happened before when I had given up hope!
