Aged 35 or over TTC #2?

1000 replies

RememberToSmile1980 · 16/05/2016 06:11

Hi ladies
I'm trying to conceive no. 2. My aim was to ttc from January of this year - however due to one thing or another (very stressful time at work!) I have not been giving it my all. I have now decided I need to focus on ttc no.2 as I am very conscious of the growing age gap! Please join for a friendly chat and to hopefully support each other!

Stats
Age - 35
Ttc - #2
CD - 21
DS - 3 years 10months!

Don't want to obsess about it! However I think it's inevitable!

Thank you Penguin13! Oh it literally takes over doesn't it. Good luck with the hula hoop Smile that sounds right up my street!

BestBeastie · 15/07/2016 13:28

Hello chaps, and welcome Nutcase - I think we all should have adopted that name at some point. Ha ha.

Good Luck with symptom spotting - I have to say this all sounds brilliantly positive. I'm convinced by the implantation bleed theory. I'm relying on you - Penguin, Rara, Buddah and Novino to all strike GOAL this month. Mind you, this would leave the thread somewhat depleted.....Hmm.

Went for my tests/scan. It's not bad news, but it's not particularly great. So I'm about mid-range for my age in terms of results for AMH, which shows I still have a relatively decent egg reserve, but I have a low antral follicle count. The nurse recommended that I start thinking about IVF but, bearing in mind that they're selling IVF, I thought I'd ignore them for a bit. Certainly, we're not done yet - and there isn't actually anything I can see wrong with a low antral follicle count (unless you're actually doing IVF and you need to get as many eggs as possible) as long as the eggs produced are decent in quality. No idea if mine are of course and they can't tell either. So have told DH that come Christmas we might have to start investigating this, but - bearing in mind the results (people with results like mine tend to have lower success outcomes on IVF) - I wonder what the point is anyway. Particularly as we'd have to get a loan out to do it. Best not think about it.

So on one hand I'm okay with the results (at least it shows that I'm still functioning down there, even if it doesn't help explain stupid periods) but on another level I wish I didn't have the spectre of IVF lurking in the shadows.

I think it's made me a bit negative about all of this so send me some positive vibes. Gearing up for O in the next few days. COME ON EGGS. Maybe I should start talking to them......

RaRa25 · 15/07/2016 13:39

best that is a bit of a headfuck!
At least you know you are ovulating and that's the important thing. I think the nurse was jumping the gun a bit with suggesting IVF but I'm no expert. I think your plan is good, wait till Xmas, hopefully you will be upduffed so won't need to make any decisions.
Welcome nutcase
Well I caved in today and tested, BFN of course, but if my bleed on Monday was implantation then perhaps it is too early yet. No other symptoms apart from being a mood bitch, but that's normal Grin.
Hope to hear some good news from you all soon.

SnugglySnerd · 15/07/2016 17:54

Welcome nutcase.
Am in tww, nothing to report. Felt bloated all day but I suspect that's due to all the rubbish I've eaten! Only 4 more days to wait though.
Have a good weekend all.

Nutcaserugby · 15/07/2016 18:14

Thanks ladies for the welcome messages. I couldn't come up with a better name to sum up what I have become Grin
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

flutterworc · 15/07/2016 18:21

Beastie how did you get referred for that? Sorry it wasn't better news for you, but knowledge is power, at least!

Buddahbelly · 15/07/2016 20:16

Beastie I think your right, of course somewere selling if is going to try to persuade you to buy it. Your plan sounds good, we want 110% effort off the 2 of you now. In face I shall do a little egg dance for us all tonight to cheer us all up, it will most probably coincide with me trying to get my trousers off as they're rather tight Grin.

Still nothing major to report here, bobs are more sore today but I'm sure that's my body messing with my head! Don't test till Sunday, caved too and did 1 yesterday ( and then went back every hour to see if it had changed) it hadn't and was still a nope, your just fat! Hmm

Novinosincebambino · 15/07/2016 20:53

Beastie that is a good strategy and taking their advice about IVF with a pinch of salt (or a box of Saxa if they're trying to sell you it) is the best way to be. Give it till Christmas, no pressure and see what happens. I'm sure it will happen for you. My friend is all for that positive visualisation stuff but I think talking to your eggs is a much better idea Grin Don't worry about the thread getting depleted, if I get a BFP I'll still hang around till there's no one left.

Welcome nutcase you are in very good company, this loot are a hoot.

I am still in my FW...I think (I honestly haven't got a frigging clue any more) so DH will get a rest next week... maybe.

Does that mean we might start getting some more BFPs from next week? Ooh the excitement!! Good luck ladies.

RaRa25 · 16/07/2016 08:28

AF has arrived, no question this time. This cycle has been a pain in the arse!
What is so annoying is family saying, come on, hurry up, time for another one, what are you waiting for. Yes, I bloody know!! IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE.
Ok, I'm calm now, time for a big, fat, extra strong coffee.
Good luck to those still in.

Buddahbelly · 16/07/2016 09:06

Booo rara, take a break, have a few wines and get back to 100% effort in a week or 2 Grin.

Im full of cold, barely got any voice, my throat is so sore don't think all the crying at ds leaving nursery yesterday helped at all Sad, but apart from that I have no symptoms at all anyway. I'm due on tomorrow and normally I'm eating everything in sight but putting it down to the fact i'm sick and just off food.
I only have ov sticks left to test on tomorrow anyway, do these work? Ive read tons of things on the internet that say both yes and no, so dont want to get a yes and it be false? I wont have time to go and buy pg tests today (off out with my mum, and really she's the last person Id like to have a discussion and ttc with)!

SnugglySnerd · 16/07/2016 11:21

Bad luck Rara, I hate comments like that.
I am very irritable so I expect my period is coming too.

Novinosincebambino · 16/07/2016 12:18

Sorry Rara, folk can be so infuriatingly insensitive. I had a friend giving it 'are you? You're wearing a baggy jumper!' I was in hospital days before having had an MC. Wish folk would just leave it. They don't know what's going on behind closed doors.

Buddah I read that opks pick up hcg like they would LH but I'm no expert. No harm in trying though until you get a real test.

flutterworc · 16/07/2016 16:59

RaRa that's rubbish. I'd be tempted to reply with a curt 'You think?! You can have one for me then!' Well, I wouldn't as I'm a massive coward, but I'd wish I had!

Nutcaserugby · 16/07/2016 21:08

Family and friends can be so insensitive and no-one knows what is happening behind closed doors.
Went to the mother in laws today and she was like so and so are trying for a baby I never be able to say that about you pair. I thought no you won't coz I don't think it's anyone's business Grin anyway I hope you lovely ladies are ok.

Buddahbelly · 16/07/2016 21:24

Sorry some people are just knows. No manners at all so pity there bluntness if anything. I've had my next door neighbour ask me on a weekly basis when I'm having another 1. She started when ds was 1 month old. He's now 4 Hmm.

In other news though, I did an opk test out boredom...there were 2 lines ShockShockShock. Need to get a test pronto cos I'm not sure it stands being ovulation sticks. Could just be picking up hormones cos im due on or something.

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 16/07/2016 23:03

Hello I'm joining in!
35
TTC #2
#1 19 months
I have PCOS and have just started taking metformin again which I did when TTC last time. Did the trick and got pg 3 months after starting it.
Haven't lost all the baby weight so while TTC will be trying to low carb and generally getting healthier again.
DH is unemployed at the mo and I work pt. Kind of feel we should just get on with it and not wait for him to get a job.
Worried about the cost of childcare (London) for two will be more than my pt salary but it would work really well around school so would be silly to give up and I like it! DH doesn't feel the same just yet.
Also TMI but this time around sex is so much more of a hassle than last time! I'm much more tired and the whole thing is less fun than before-hope I'm not the only one who feels this way!

Penguin13 · 17/07/2016 07:24

Hi whenwill and welcome. Hope the merformin does the trick for you this time around too.

Rara I'm sorry AF showed up, that bitch. I really had my hopes up for you this month. Sorry your family is giving you crap too. People can be so rubbish. Would a well placed 'sometimes it's not that easy' be enough to get them off your back or are they not the types to take a hint?

Ooh Buddha if I were you I would be going crazy wondering!!!

So I have some news.....I have tested the past couple of days but was too embarrassed to admit it as the tests were blanker than a blank thing. Thought I would throw my last FRER at it today, what the hell and...and....there's a second line! Super faint but pink and unmistakably there!!!!! If you don't mind I will loiter here for a bit cheering you ladies on.

Buddahbelly · 17/07/2016 07:35

penguin congratulations!!!...

Same here too though Wink. I nipped out last night on the pretense we needed bread just to get a test, just did it this morning and yep there's a faint pink line there too.

So the ov tests were right i suppose...

Novinosincebambino · 17/07/2016 08:00

Congratulations Penguin and Buddah! That's amazing news. Does that mean a March or April baby? Hopefully hear of more BFPs now that you have started the ball rolling - woo hoo!

Welcome whenwill that's 6 BFPs now and I'm hoping for many many more.

I am now in the tww and it's going to drag! Going to NY on Sunday and wondering if I should test even though it will be stupidly early. No idea how I'm going to fly without a small red wine to take the edge off WinkWine

Penguin13 · 17/07/2016 08:00

Hooray Buddha. Fab news. Think this IS a lucky thread Smile Have you told your DH yet? I haven't as part of me wants to wait for a better line. Would love to figure out a sweet way of telling him involving DD but I know in reality will probably end up waving a piss stick under his nose like last time Blush

Penguin13 · 17/07/2016 08:07

Cross post Novinos. Fingers crossed for you this month and that the TWW goes quick - what a cosmopolitan baby that would be - jetting off to NY before it was even born Grin From everything I've read a small glass of wine at the stage would be perfectly safe if you wanted one but I know it's very personal what you feel comfortable with also a nice excuse to POAS early if you are so inclined Grin

flutterworc · 17/07/2016 08:24

FlowersFlowersWoop woop Penguin and Buddha! Share your secrets with us!! Fabulous news!

RaRa25 · 17/07/2016 09:52

Big congrats penguin and buddah! so happy for you both. This must be a lucky thread. Definitely stay with us and keep us updated ladies.
Welcome when, glad we are still recruiting or else I would be talking to myself on this thread!
On my phone diary for week commencing 25th I have written 'get on it!' Hopefully this sophisticated plan will work this month Confused.

RaRa25 · 17/07/2016 10:20

Also, those that are still on here who are pregnant, how long did it take you?

Penguin13 · 17/07/2016 12:04

Thanks everyone. With a previous MMC detected at 13 weeks I am a bit cautious about getting too excited at this stage but am hopeful. Part of me wishes I had waited tomorrow to test as it is such a squinter which I definitely haven't obsessively gone back to have a look at Have got another test and decided to hold out till tomorrow to tell DH (hopefully)

Rara this will be our 4th cycle I think - we have been incredibly lucky. The only thing I have really done 'specially' was to give up on wearing perfume daily and stop wearing nail varnish as I read in the 'it starts with an egg' book that those things can affect egg quality. I skipped a lot of the other
recommended things from the book though so who knows if it really made any difference it just made me feel like I was 'doing something'. I also started taking a daily multivitamin on top of my folic acid.
