Aged 35 or over TTC #2?

1000 replies

RememberToSmile1980 · 16/05/2016 06:11

Hi ladies
I'm trying to conceive no. 2. My aim was to ttc from January of this year - however due to one thing or another (very stressful time at work!) I have not been giving it my all. I have now decided I need to focus on ttc no.2 as I am very conscious of the growing age gap! Please join for a friendly chat and to hopefully support each other!

Stats
Age - 35
Ttc - #2
CD - 21
DS - 3 years 10months!

Don't want to obsess about it! However I think it's inevitable!

I didn't even notice Novino!

Novinosincebambino · 27/06/2016 23:07

Welcome beastie (nice name by the way!) I'm 37 soon to be 38 as well. Let's hope this thread is good to us all cause we'd all like this TTC nonsense to be done and get on with the good part (don't tell my DH I said that).

Ah snuggly you are too forgiving of my grammar faux pas!

Spindelina · 28/06/2016 17:56

Welcome, Beastie. 38 in August here, DD is 4 in 3 weeks, CD 13. Started TTC in Feb, one MC later here I am with remarkably similar stats to you! Is your DS another one starting school in September?

Buddahbelly · 29/06/2016 11:25

Hello beastie (love the name, It's my nickname for my brother after too many years watching beauty and the beast).

If you are about in the next half an hr they have a fertility expert on this morning, If not Ill let you know what she says, I'm working from my bed today as im full of ds's cold. He had his party at the weekend and I think the combination of stress getting everything ready the and 15 kids surrounded me with the germs have finally caught me!

Buddahbelly · 29/06/2016 11:44

Ok well if you didn't catch it, you didn't miss anything. to sum up the "expert" advised to have sex, eat healthily, take some vitamins if needed and see your gp if you're still having problems Hmm So I can now also call myself a fertility expert too as I knew most of that!

One thing she did mention though which may be of some interest it when ttc both of you should limit your intake of cows milk as it contains hormones given to the cows which can interact with ttc and make it more difficult.

Guess I just had my last cup of tea for the month then Smile

jessplussomeonenew · 29/06/2016 12:55

Have sex? Hadn't thought of that...

Would have thought organic milk would be ok though.

Novinosincebambino · 29/06/2016 12:55

Thank you fertility expert Buddha! Grin

Cows milk?? seriously. I read the exact opposite advice, i.e. drink lots of full fat milk. Which I have been doing. Every. Bloody. Day. Grrrr.

My AF is now officially 1 week late but think there are signs it is thinking about starting. May this be the cycle that ends all cycles! (well for 9 months anyway). Going to see the doc on Friday so lets see what she says - and I will be asking about Milk.

Buddahbelly · 29/06/2016 12:59

I know jess Who knew sex was the answer to our prayers! Grin

Ive not read any advice about milk to be honest, just heard her say it but I'm the same Novino, Id have thought the more the better as it's more calcium for growing isn't it? Dont know what to believe

SendTheNextOneIn · 29/06/2016 15:26

Hello everyone, I do hope you don't mind me sticking my head in!

I am 35, currently mother to one DD who is 4.5. We have recently decided to have one last stab at creating a second life before I am Too Old (husband is only 31, so age is not A Thing for him as it is for me.)

I have had a coil in for the last 12 months, as we had previously agreed to not TTC again (I had a blighted ovum MC in November 2013 which I think made us a bit more complacent about the whole thing and we decided to stick to one child), but we have been talking more about it and decided to give it another go.

Anyway. I have an appointment on Monday afternoon to have the coil removed, and according to my period tracking app, I am due to ovulate around Wednesday, so we thought 'no time like the present.'. I dug out my still-in-date bottle of folic acid tabs so have started taking those too.

iemma321q · 29/06/2016 18:59

Hi Sendthenextonein

I'm due to ovulate around the same time as you so looks like we will be doing the 2ww together!!

SnugglySnerd · 29/06/2016 19:35

Welcome newcomers!
Where on earth did they find that fertility expert? Have sex? Really???

Novinosincebambino · 29/06/2016 19:50

Shock well that's where we've all been going wrong snuggly just holding DH's hand is clearly not doing the trick. Back to the drawing board.

RaRa25 · 29/06/2016 20:03

SEX! Who would have thought it!! My DH will be pleased! 😜

Welcome newbies.

zahaziland · 29/06/2016 20:12

Hello everyone,
been lurking for a while, but I feel ready to officially hop onboard if you'll have me.
Age - 36 (nearly 37)
ttc #2
DS: 1
CD27

I only stopped breastfeeding a couple of months ago, and my cycles have been all over the place, I thought that last month would be a bit more regular, but I don't even think I ovulated.
I think I ovulated this month (last week), but only dtd once in the right timeframe, so not very hopeful.

I'll go back and read the thread, to get you know you all a bit better!

BestBeastie · 29/06/2016 20:13

Waving at everyone = hello!

Good to know about the New Theories. I'm an expert, too, Buddha! I feel like a Scientist now, though: I hate to say it, Ladies, but I did actually know that you needed to have sex, but also that you're most likely to catch babies from sitting on a loo seat after a boy. So it might be that your DP's leave the seats up.

Spindella - this is a little uncanny: I'm 38 in August. DS is only just 4 (a summer baby) and, yes, he's starting school in September. Can't quite believe that one. And my other half is also much younger, send - I'm hoping that counts for something in the laws of fertility.

I was meant to be off alcohol, coffee and even sugar (GASP) this month. Managed it last month, much good it did me - this week we're on holiday in France with DH's parents and DS. DS is waking at 6 every day and I CANNOT survive this holiday without caffeine and alcohol. It's cd17... And Im holding out little hope for this month. Trying to convince myself that it's a good test - you know, Survival of the Fittest: if any egg can get itself fertilised and implanted in this terrible (and obviously decrepit) environment, I'm breeding some form of superhuman.

SnugglySnerd · 29/06/2016 20:20

Beastie when I realised I was pregnant with DD I was knocking back fizz at a hen do for the second weekend running and had spent the interim mainlining caffeine to stay awake. DD is absolutely fine, she's crackers but she's fine!!

BestBeastie · 29/06/2016 20:22

Zaha - hats off to you for going into the ring for a second time with a small baby/toddler now in tow.

And - forgot to ask Novino - dairy? Really? You can't do anything right can you?! I've spent the past 3 years dairy free, because of the havoc I thought it was doing to my health and hormones...Now I should be drinking milk?!

Ducking back into my holiday now. Good luck all those in the tww - will keep checking on your progress and crossing fingers.

BestBeastie · 29/06/2016 20:23

Pouring myself another glass - thanks, Snuggly...

Buddahbelly · 29/06/2016 20:44

Ok quick question... Day 1 (period, is that what you call it day 1, not even sure??) was last thursday, Finished approx sunday, and before and only as I was bored waiting for a face mask to set did an Ov test and it had a faint line.

Can that even happen that quickly? the tests are the cheapy ones off ebay and i read the back, they say even a faint line is negative but why would it show up? Just don't trust them. answer quick so I'll know if i need to hop in the shower and do my legs for tonight Grin

zahaziland · 29/06/2016 20:52

ahah beastie, yes, it's all a bit daunting with DS only just turned 1, but DS only arrived after two MCs, so we thought we better get cracking if we want #2....

buddha, the test line of OPKs has to be at least as dark as the control, otherwise it's a negative.

Buddahbelly · 29/06/2016 21:05

Thanks zaha (did I say hello to you before, sorry was in a rush if i didnt!

Right no leg shaving happening here tonight, bed with a cuppa it is Smile

Novinosincebambino · 29/06/2016 21:14

Buddah get those legs done and do it anyway Wink there's no harm in trying even if it's just for the practice.

Hello everyone new! (And you old lot as well Grin) I'm off the booze and caffeine and going for an early night. Will TRY to look after myself a bit better this month and get to bed early since DD is waking at 6am too. Informed DH that apparently this sex thing is the way to go, he seems sceptical but will give it a try. I don't think my FW is until the 12th at the earliest since AF was pissing about and just turned up. I hope you ladies can give me some BFPs so I know it is possible.

SendTheNextOneIn · 30/06/2016 07:43

Oh god, I can't live without coffee. I'm going to try to cut down though, greater good and all that. Alcohol isn't an issue, I'm not a drinker. Plus I've lost a load of weight since we tried/mc'd a couple of years ago so I'm really hoping that's going to go in my favour.

Novinosincebambino · 30/06/2016 10:36

Don't worry send I think unless you're drinking 5 double espressos a day then a little caffeine is fine (225mg I think?). My friend drank coffee all through her second pregnancy just not in the same quantities she had before. I stopped drinking caffeine at the start of January because I was pregnant and since the MC I haven't gone back - I find it just stops the "why are you drinking decaf??" nosey questions when you do have to give up. When the friend I mentioned before ordered a decaf my head nearly did a 360. It was her first pregnancy so she followed the rules to the letter that time.

SendTheNextOneIn · 30/06/2016 12:00

Oh yes novino, I know a bit is ok :) I did drink coffee in my first pregnancy. I'll probably just switch a few to decaf each day. I like a costa for a treat though :)
