Anyone done or doing Clomid/ovidrel/IUI?

Would love to hear from anyone taking this route ttc. I'm DOR and dh has low morphology but an amazing count and motility. So whenever af shows up in two weeks or so I'm starting Clomid, then doing a hcg trigger injection and then IUI. Hoping for success getting 2-3 good eggs to drop and putting the swimmers practically next to them!

Hi Snowy. Not heard of it but guessing there must be cases where it doesn't. Did you inject it properly? Very sorry anyway. Gutting to miss a chance but there is always next month although I know that isn't much consolation. xxx

snowy1982 · 26/09/2016 11:02

As far as i know we injected the same as last time. Am really annoyed about it, as much with the nurses reaction as anything. Spoke to her today and she went from saying it never happens last week to it sometimes happens and that there isnt anything they can do until next cycle. Didnt even offer a day 21 blood test to confirm whether or not i have ovulated. I asked to speak to the doctor so am waiting on a call back.

I know theres always next month, but thats it, we'll be at the end of our 3 cycle treatment then so really dont like the idea of wasting any of them

Meeting with my doctor last Wednesday went very well! Had a HSG check with dye for Fallopian tubes and they're both OPEN! My left which was blocked is absolutely OPEN!! And I'm growing 2 follicles, one is almost 10mm and the 2nd is 9x6mm! Waiting for a dominant one to grow up to 20mm. So far so good and relieved about the tubes. Oh and the doctor said I got a beautiful lining! She was very happy with it! A much better improvement from March and previous times when she checked.
Had my 2nd ultrasound on Saturday, and got 3 follicles in total! 18, 17 and 15mm. And tomorrow morning I'll be injecting myself with Ovitrelle And I'm scheduled for IUI on Monday, 1pm! DH flew over and we will use his fresh stuff. Doctor is very happy with my endometrium and lining. Thickness of endometrium was 10.5mm. she keeps saying everything looks so beautiful inside! Fingers crossed for me!
All went well yesterday. 2 follicles grew to 20mm each! 3rd follicles was around 15mm, I believe. Risk/chance/potential of twins, doctor said. endometrium grew to 14mm thick. DH's washed sperm was high class! Doc was very happy with everything! Then they put me on a drip, and gave me more drugs to take till testing 2 weeks later.
HCG and progesterone blood tests need to be done on 10th and 12th receptively. Told my dad about the procedure and ask him not to ask me for updates or raise hopes or expectations. I'm very calm about it all. Love all scientific side of it all. One of my friends called me a geek! Haha also told my acupuncturist and she's very pleased with the results. Asked the doctor if she thought that acupuncture made any difference in how things are so far, she highly recommended to carry on with acupuncture, and I will. flying home tomorrow night, resume my volunteering which I've missed and starting a little part-time job at the local NHS hospital, as an administrator. This part-time job will allow me to move freely if needed a second IUI as I'll definitely coming back here. The care is just outstanding! Positive thinking is a must but won't be too upset as I've got a plan B and C if/when it comes to it. We've been checked out and we're not infertile which is a main thing. We're just giving a little nudge to make things happen sooner/quicker. Fingers crossed for us

Snowy, how are you feeling?

snowy1982 · 27/09/2016 08:10

Still not feeling too happy about things, going for a day 21 blood test today to see if I even OV, but I had to suggest that myself not the clinic. TBH am a bit confused about the timing of it as I'm not on day 21, but doc said it should be a week after the trigger shot so I just have to take his word on it. He says its to check if I OV as a result of the trigger rather than naturally so if the trigger didn't work they can up the dose of change the drug. Even if the test is negative it doesn't rule out that I went naturally as if I did I think it happened on Friday so wouldn't show on BT yet. Just feeling a bit disheartened really, I know this stuff isn't easy and success rates aren't great, but I didn't think I'd have to worry about the drugs not working, I thought that was one thing that would be OK. Oh well, I'll just have to wait and see.

All sounding very positive there Russkispy I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you Smile

Russkispy · 27/09/2016 11:52

Snowy, that sounds so bloody frustrating! Thinking of you!! And hope it all works and in order. Let us know! Big hugs

Thomasina76 · 27/09/2016 13:02

Russkispy, are you, or anyone else, on Crinone? I had my IUI on Sunday and started on Crinone last night. Made the mistake of googling it and seem it has some nasty side effects, many of which mimic pregnancy hormones so it's going to be really hard to make myself not read too much into them. Apparently crinone stops you getting AF as well which is a bit weird. Not too sure why I am on it as lining loooked great and no indications of low progesterone but maybe they are covering all bases. Have to say, the CRGG were very thorough and professional, if a little chaotic. Trying very hard not to build my hopes up as it all went well (23mm follicle), great lining, trigger, egg white etc so I know we did it on the right day (unlike last time!) but all that doesn't necessarily mean a BFN. Does anyone know if a larger follicle is any indication of the egg being viable/better quality?

Snowy, good luck with the follow-up. It does feel that issues come up out of nowhere. None of this is easy. I just pray with all get our BFPs very soon. This is our second cyle. I think we will do a 3rd one then who knows. DH is dead against using clomid or doing IVF so not sure we have any other options. xx

Thomasina76 · 27/09/2016 13:03

Sorry, meant everything going well doesn't necessarily mean a "BFP"!

Russkispy · 27/09/2016 18:44

Thomasina, I was given Utrogest. Can't even bothered to google it. I'll just wait for my blood tests on 10 and 12 October. Till then I'll just get on with my life. I know, I'll have plan B and C etc so I'm not fretting. Sooner or later it will happen. For all of us! I'm convinced!

snowy1982 · 28/09/2016 11:36

Update, just got BT results and they show I did ovulate through the trigger so this cycle is still on Smile. Doc can't really explain why I didn't get the false BFP, only reason is I most flush it out quicker and don't take the 10 days they say it normally takes. Feeling very silly for getting myself so worked up, but I had to go with my gut and when the PG test seemed to confirm that there was no way I wasn't getting upset.

Doc still thinks if we need a third cycle we should consider fully medicated, he says it just reduces the variables, so have that to mull over now

Thomasina76 · 28/09/2016 12:13

That's good news Snowy!! Think it is variable how long trigger stays in your system and I'm sure I read cases of it being out within a day or so. I know that the lowest dose stayed in my system for 10 days but that it varies hugely. So what CD are you now? What does dr mean by fully medicated?

Russkispy, I WISH I could be as chilled as you! Think my age (40) has something to do with it as it really feels that time is running out. I am convinced myself we left it too late and it'll never happen. I keep telling myself that it's just a matter of time as nothing is wrong, we've both had kids before so it's just a matter of waiting to get the right egg but I still can;t be positive about it.

snowy1982 · 28/09/2016 12:40

With hormones to stimulate egg growth and not just to stimulate ovulation.

Russkispy · 28/09/2016 13:10

Thomsina, I'm also 40!! And DH is 41. Never had kids. One must stay chilled! And can't think that we might have left till late to have kids! All that negativity will just eat you up! And I refuse to go down that road! Please stay positive and it will happen! If not naturally, there are many more options available now! And if it's too expensive in the UK then there are lots of great clinincs in Europe with high success rates and much cheaper! I know the options are there and I'm chilled. Our time comes!
Snowy, glad all is well! Just wait to see what happens this cycle and then think of other options. I, for one, will go on Clomid, trigger and IUI again. I'll win this fight! DH is right behind me 😉😉

Thomasina76 · 28/09/2016 14:55

Love your attitude Russkispy. How long have you been trying? Going to try to hold that positivity in mind. I don't mind it taking a while so long as I know it'll happen in the end although I would rather it happened now before i get any older!!! In terms of options, I think we have fewer as we don't want to use clomid due to risk of multiples or do IVF so unmedicated IUI is pretty much it! May I ask why you chose IUI? I got the impression that most people don't bother with it and go straight to IVF.

Russkispy · 28/09/2016 15:59

We've been trying since April this year. And I always thought of an IUI first as it's less invasive and trying to avoid IVF at any cost. My doctor was happy with IUI first and even suggested a couple if cycles before IVF. I know myself that I'd do IVF if/when comes to it. But hoping it won't come to it. Either way I'm /we're ready.
But I believe medicated IUI doesn't automatically guarantee multiple births. We're not against twins if there's a chance of it. But I understand if you're worried about it

snowy1982 · 29/09/2016 13:38

Most clinics have a cut off to reduce chances of multiples anyway. Ours will cancel the procedure if there are more than 2 mature follicles

snowy1982 · 29/09/2016 13:39

The chances of multiples are higher of course, but they try to mitigate it

One2another · 29/09/2016 13:46

I've had day 6 and day 21 blood tests done, both positive/normal result and my dp test result was excellent result. I've got hospital appointment in October. I'm 41, any idea what Drs can do for us?

snowy1982 · 29/09/2016 16:58

I imagine they would check your Fallopian tubes for any blockages, scan for things like scar tissue on uterus, then either IUI or IVF depending on any other issues your may have (if you have seen my history on this, DH and are had excellent test results for everything, but he has issues with 'finishing' though sex, great for a good time not so good for TTC) so they thought IUI would work for us)

geeup · 03/10/2016 12:48

Hi all from a long time lurker. Apologies for butting in out of the blue but am desperate! I know a few of you from other threads so hi again to you! I wondered if any of you could please give me some advice. I've been ttc #1 for c 18 mths and was due to start clomid on cd3 tomorrow. Just called my NHS clinic as requested to book in for my follicle scans and they can't fit me in and told me I can't start this month - livid!
I have tried calling a couple of clinics to see if they would either do the follicle scans for me or potentially we could do a full IUI but expect it's somewhat unlikely as I'm CD2 today and obviously haven't had consultations and tests etc with these clinics (except Create where I had an MOT a year ago). Is this a ridiculous goose chase or do you think a clinic could get you going on an IUI cycle when first contact was on CD2? Thank you in advance.

snowy1982 · 05/10/2016 08:07

It's worth making enquiries, but i think it would be unlikely. I know when I went there were certain blood tests they are likely required to do before starting, so at the very least it would depend on how quickly they can do them

geeup · 05/10/2016 08:53

Thanks snowy. Have decided to go ahead and take the clomid without the scans. Probably against my dr's advice but with low morphology risk of multiples is almost never going to happen and I'm just hoping I don't get OHSS but at only 50mg dose, that's fairly low risk too. Interested if you're all getting the full scan monitoring?

snowy1982 · 05/10/2016 09:53

What do you mean by full scan monitoring?

Well i POAS this morning and cycle 2 of IUI is a bust. Going straight into 3rd cycle only going for a stimulated cycle instead of a natural one this time, its the last of my batch of three so thought it might be good to up the stakes a bit.

geeup · 05/10/2016 12:35

Sorry to hear you don't think it's worked snowy but great you're feeling positive and have a plan for your third one.
Re full scan monitoring I meant my doctor wanted me to have a scan between days 11-14 to see how my follicles were maturing (and to check there weren't too many) but as he can't fit me in, I'm taking the clomid anyway (without telling him). I know it's bad but it sounds like other people in other postcodes are prescribed it without scans so hoping it's ok.

snowy1982 · 05/10/2016 14:10

My first two cycles I only had trigger injection (no drugs to stimulate egg growth) so I went for scans on day 9 to check size, then again 3 days later then they gave me trigger injection.

Wouldn't say am feeling positive (I have had the month from hell with work and seem to have a dog suffering from PTSD due to fireworks, so add the BFN to the mix and it ain't pretty) but I do have a plan and after a day or two to have a wee mope I'll be back on the positivity track

Thomasina76 · 05/10/2016 17:24

Hi Geeup. I'm a bit late but I think most clinics insist you have a consultation before they book you into any treatment. Guess they want to take all your history etc. My clinic also insisted on a base line scan on day 2 or 3 and if we missed that then they wouldn't do that cycle. Important to be safe. Doesn't clomid need to be monitored

Snowy, sorry you are feeling pessimistic. I am also in the purgatory that is the two week wait. Stupidly did a HPT earlier and have convinced myself there could be the faintest faintest line, so faint I am not even sure it's there. I am 11 DP trigger so if there is anything then it's probably just that. So silly of me to test - did it before and it was just trigger. I also have weird metallic taste in my mouth no doubt caused by the progesterone tablets. Am pretty sure I am not pregnant. Like you, I hope I can get away with a small mope then onto the next cycle. Will also be our 3rd.
