Would love to hear from anyone taking this route ttc. I'm DOR and dh has low morphology but an amazing count and motility. So whenever af shows up in two weeks or so I'm starting Clomid, then doing a hcg trigger injection and then IUI. Hoping for success getting 2-3 good eggs to drop and putting the swimmers practically next to them!

Hi all, I have been hanging round for a few years, after 3 years of ups and downs we went to a specialist. DH fine me progesterone to low initial diagnosis is endometriosis. Booked in for lap and dye and hyperoscopy then on to clomifene. Been reading about the op and it seems it could be a little scary, does anyone have advice

Hi ladies, so cycle 3 is a crazy one for me too snow, but kind of the opposite problem. Just had my day 10 scan and as usual I have 2 follicles on the right, but this cycle the left has chosen to wake up so I have 4 follicles altogether at 18, 16, 15 and 14. They've instructed me to have protected sex until my next period and essentially cancel the cycle because of the risk of multiples. Left the clinic in tears. So, I don't want twins and certainly wouldn't want to carry triplets, but how likely is it really given I've had two failed cycles already and we have sperm issues? I cant help think that all these follicles gives me a better chance and am very tempted to just trigger and shag (sorry) against the advice of the drs. Am I being stupid??

Maple, how are you doing on Clomid so far?

Snow, how's the 150 dose working out for you?

maplebaby · 28/07/2016 12:12

Oh star! Glad your left ovary has awakened! I'm not sure what I would do... I think I would shag but would you have to trigger? Would you ovulate on your own?

Mrs when is your scan booked for? Were you still taking the progesterone or had you stopped everything?

Ruby I'm afraid I don't have any experience on endo or lap - I had a Hycosy to check tubes but that's something different.. Sorry I'm no help.

Only had 2 days of clomid so far and I don't think I feel any different... Had a peak smiley the morning after the first tablet - I discarded as a false as I had only been scanned the day before and didn't have any follicles and blood tests showed none! No symptoms yet... Hoping I'm sleeping through them but we shall see!! Have my first scan on Tuesday!

Really struggling to manage work though and the scans...

snowy1982 · 28/07/2016 12:35

Hi ladies, I am you don't mind another newcomer. So my story is as follows: Age 33 (DH 37); TTC #1; cycle #21; all blood tests results are good; and DH SA ok (slightly on the low end of the normal scale but doc wasn't concerned).

We have been waiting 8 months on NHS appointment so finally bit the bullet and went private.

Our issue is that DH sometimes (and I apologise in advance for TMI) has issues 'finishing' - this was a great problem to have when we weren't TTC as it meant I was always very well 'looked after' but not so good when TTC. When he can't finish DTD we have been finishing by hand (once again sorry for TMI) and trying DIY insemination. Had consultation with private clinic on Tuesday and doc says that this is most likely our issue (as all other tests are OK) and that we probably aren't 'hitting the spot' enough. He has recommended natural IUI due to start next cycle.

I am both happy that something is finally happening, gutted that we need to do it this way and terrified that even this won't work.

Snowdog37 · 28/07/2016 15:27

star that's a sucky dilemma to be in. Personally I would go ahead and have sex anyway as the likelihood of twins or more is only 8% of the 20% chance of it working at all. So pretty minuscule.
The 150mg is kicking my butt. I'm so emotional and paranoid it's funny but not funny! My dh is kind of scared of me lol so I've been taking myself off to bed early. Need him to like me enough to start dtd tonight!
maple don't do opks until 3 days after the last Clomid pill as you'll get a false positive.
Welcome fellow snowy happy to have more people join us!

star1980 · 28/07/2016 16:12

Thanks so much everyone, I think we're just going to go ahead. I've looked on forums and lots of clinics have a higher cut-off than 2, and other people like friends just get given Clomid with no scans so they could have 4 follicles and just not know it. So all in all, I think with our sperm the risk really isn't that big and i just cannot imagine using condoms when I'm trying so hard to get pregnant!

Ooh Snow, 150mg sounds intense! I was only on 50mg and was sweating horribly - can't imagine what a triple dose would do. Fingers crossed it's 3rd time lucky for you.

Welcome snowy, natural cycle iui sounds sensible. Do you know how many rounds you're going for? I imagine the odds would be similar to trying naturally (without 'finishing' issues Grin), so 20% per month so maybe 5 cycles. Or are the odds better than that which is why with Clomid they usually suggest 3 cycles before moving on to something more aggressive?

Maple, I know what you mean about work. Luckily I have my own office so people don't really know when I come and go and I just put 'Dentist' or 'Doctor' in my calendar and no-one really asks any questions. It's a minefield but I just take the appointments they give me and then cancel meetings if I have to.

snowy1982 · 28/07/2016 16:33

Star the clinic offers it singly or in rounds of 3 so have signed up for 3 initially. I was initially pleased with the idea of doing a natural cycle as i didn't want meds and my blood work indicates I don't need them, but all the research I am doing suggests a natural cycle has a lower success rate than a medicated one. I suppose the doc knows best, but I may raise the issue at my planning appointment

maplebaby · 28/07/2016 18:22

Welcome snowy and good luck with the IUI! When is AF due so you can start the cycle?

Thanks snow I did dismiss as a false positive but didn't know about the 3 day after last tablet thing! Haha poor DH! Luckily no symptoms for me yet but I guess it might take time for it to kick in!

Good luck star hopefully no quads but hope the swimmers catch one out of the 4! My cut off is 3 I think. I don't have my own office but my work is pretty flexible. I'll figure it out but I'm the same - just take the appointment in given - it's tricky with all the scans though as they could trigger one day and need you in the next - luckily I haven't had to use any dentist / doctor excuses yet - saving them for when I need them!

snowy1982 · 28/07/2016 18:36

Thanks maple AF is due on 10th August and have a planning meeting on scheduled for the 12th

Thomasina76 · 01/08/2016 17:40

Hi everyone. Maplebaby directed me here. Would love to join this thread as about to embark on our first unmedicated IUI and starting to feel very nervous for some reason. DH and I have been TTC for 9 months. DH is 46, I am 40 this week and we both have 2 kids each from previous relationships. DH's sperm count is excellent, my tubes are clear (hycosy done 2 months ago) and all tests normal (LMH of 7.1). The private consultant we saw gave the IUI a 20% chance of success per cycle but I am far from optimistic about it working. Have read other stats that give it only a 1-2% chance of success each cycle so a bit confusing. Anyhow, think we will give it a couple of gos then see what happens. I have my scan booked for this Weds at which point I think they will then book in the procedure. Does anyone know how they go about pinpointing when you ovulate, especially if I am not having a trigger shot? Really worried he's going to miss it!

maplebaby · 01/08/2016 17:56

Welcome thomasina Smile I've just started IUI (finally!) - had my last clomid pill on Saturday and have a scan tomorrow. I'm not too sure about the ovulation without trigger - I presume they monitor you with scans and they ask you to use OPKs... Hopefully they will tell you everything you need to know on Wednesday!

What cycle day will you be on?

Thomasina76 · 01/08/2016 18:17

Thanks Maplebaby! On Weds I will be CD 11 according to my calculations but CD 10 according to theirs. Scan needs to be between day 10 and 12 apparently. Quite exciting but HATE the 2 week wait and it will be even worse this time as I will have raised expectations. Starting to think we should just give up and be thankful for the DCs we have. What CD are you and when are you likely to have to procedure? Is this your first go?

maplebaby · 01/08/2016 18:23

Do you know when you normally ovulate?

I'm not entirely sure what CD I'm on! I spot before my periods and then have really light flow so I count red blood as CD1 - had a scan on CD5 and they saw a 12mm follicle. Went back for a scan on CD9 but follicle had gone and so they did bloods and decided to start me on clomid then! So by my usual calculations I'm CD15 now but hospital are saying CD8 if I count the day I started clomid as CD2! Very confusing...

Yes my first go doing IUI! Nervous what the scan will show tomorrow - have follies grown? How many have I got? Will my lining be ok (worry for me because of scanty periods). We've been trying 18 months and never had a BFP - in the unexplained infertility camp.

snowy1982 · 02/08/2016 08:58

Thomasina, I am also about to start first cycle of IUI and it is also unmedicated. Doc says as all my tests are good there is no point medicating, but I have the same worries as you especially re the lack of trigger. As far as I know OV is pinpointed by daily scans and OPK's. I guess we just have to have faith that the docs know what their doing. Due to holidays etc we just missed a cycle, so I am -impatiently- patiently waiting out this cycle and will hopefuly be starting towards the end of this month (actually depending on timing I may actually be getting IUI the morning I have a important exam so am actually hoping for a light delay in AF this month)

maplebaby · 02/08/2016 11:55

Just had my scan, had one lead follie at 12mm and then several close behind. Hopefully they don't all have a growth spurt as I'll have to cancel if I have more than 3!

Lining was 4.6mm no idea what it should be at this point but it's thicker than what I've had before so hopefully it will continue to thicken up!

Another scan booked in for Friday but have to do an opk Thursday morning.

snowy1982 · 02/08/2016 12:17

That sounds good

star1980 · 02/08/2016 12:38

Welcome thomasina - good luck for your iui. I thought they always triggered when they did IUI so they know when to time it. I'm not doing iui, but last cycle I didn't trigger (as I couldn't get hold of it) and read a thing that said that your LH surge starts at about 8am and by midday there's enough in your system for an opk to read it. If that's true, I guess they can time things pretty closely if you let them know when your opk first went positive. And well done on getting going on treatment so quickly. I first wen to the GP at 8 months, go referred at 10 months and had my first consultant appointment at 14 months trying. Only just started treatment (Clomid) 2 months ago after 18 months trying - it's so depressing how long this is taking.

Hey maple, that sounds like a good scan. Seems like your follicles grow more slowly than mine - I've heard that's a good thing as better quality eggs if they grow more slowly. Usually by day 10 I have an 18mm and they tell me to trigger. Fingers crossed for 2 or 3 nice big follicles by Friday - what will you be then? Day 12? 4.6mm would a bit thin if you were about to trigger but as your follicles grow, your lining grows, I think you want it to be about 8mm by the time of IUI so plenty of time.

snowy hope your period doesn't arrive at all! Or if it must, hoping it doesn't throw out your iui/exam timing!

As for me, I am 1dpo today. Had 4 follicles on cd10 and went ahead with timed intercourse against the advice of the hospital Shock. Triggered on cd12 and dtd cd12 and cd14. Hoping I've done enough. I read loads of threads where people with 4 follicles went ahead and ended up with no pregnancy or just a singleton. Obviously there were also those who ended up with multiples. Anyway, trying to ignore everything now for the next two weeks!

How's everyone else, snow, broody, and our grad genghis?!

maplebaby · 02/08/2016 12:48

Snowy I missed the bit about IUI may be on same day as the exam - hopefully AF will be a little later then (or you get a BFP instead!)

Star thanks, I'm on CD9 according to hospital but CD16 if I go by AF!! I read follies can grow 2mm a day so hopefully I'll have an 18mm on Friday! And thicker lining.

Fingers crossed for you this month! I think I would have shagged too if I had been in your position. I think multiples would be unlikely (maybe twins) anyway so hoping for a singleton for you!

Snowdog37 · 02/08/2016 12:57

Hi, I had a similar situation to maple in that I had no decent follies cd12 so they put me straight away onto another 5 days of Clomid cd12-16. I had a 12.7mm and a few smaller ones on Sunday (cd16) and my estradiol was 300 so something is growing lol. Going back to the clinic in an hour or so to have another scan and blood tests to see what's the deal. Totally weird cycle. 😜😣

Good luck snowy and star 💐

Thomasina76 · 02/08/2016 13:06

Hi everyone. Thanks Star, we didn't want to wait any longer given that I am now 40 and DH is 46. Really have the feeling that we are running out of time and that is may not happen for us. Kicking ourselves for not TTC earlier. We just assumed it would happen straight away as I conceived within a few months with both my DCs and so did DH. Never occurred to us we would struggle this time. We are trying unmedicated IUI initially as I am ovulating normally so no point taking clomid/having trigger shot. I would also prefer to keep it as natural as possible and really really do not want multiples so not sure we would use clomid. Reckon we'll try this 3 times and see what happens.

Snowy, will they expect me to use OPK to tell when I ovulate as I am rubbish at using them! The colour ones seem to work much better than the ditigal one (I never seem to get a happy face) but I struggle to do them at the right time as am at work etc and always forget about not weeing for 4 hours before. I can usually pinpoint ovulation to a couple of days but find it harder to get more specific although last month I did temping for the first time which I found amazingly revealing and enabled me to work out when I had ovulated. I also find checking cervical muscus test very difficult.

Good luck everyone! Either way, it's going to be an emotional rollercoaster.

snowy1982 · 02/08/2016 13:21

AF will def arrive this month - when I had consultation scan last Tuesday they were able to tell me I had already ovulated that month, 2 days earlier than expected. I had been on holidays so hadn't been using OPK's or anything and then the last few days of hols we were staying in a hotel with no aircon and it was 35 degrees out, suffice to say neither DH or I felt like DTD, so we have no chance of a BFP this time.

Thomasina I would assume you will have to OPK because without a trigger I don't see how else it could be timed, but then I'm not a doctor so what do I know. I have a planning meeting Friday week so I am going to ask about the possibility of using trigger even though I am unmedicated or else ask what is the best OPK to use

Thomasina76 · 02/08/2016 13:45

Snowy, I am going in for a scan tomorrow. I thought from the scan that the dr can tell when you will ovulate? There was also mention of a blood test if they weren't sure. I really hope it won't come down to me doing OPK as I am sure I will miss it!

snowy1982 · 02/08/2016 14:10

Just ask them when you are in tomorrow, they should be able to tell you. My doc may jut use OPK's as a back up to scans

Snowdog37 · 02/08/2016 14:42

Woo hoo!!! Two excellent follicles on my left, 19mm and 17mm. Waiting for my blood tests to see if I trigger tonight or tomorrow. I'm so relieved.
