Anyone done or doing Clomid/ovidrel/IUI?

Would love to hear from anyone taking this route ttc. I'm DOR and dh has low morphology but an amazing count and motility. So whenever af shows up in two weeks or so I'm starting Clomid, then doing a hcg trigger injection and then IUI. Hoping for success getting 2-3 good eggs to drop and putting the swimmers practically next to them!

Thats great Snowdog

Thomasina76 · 02/08/2016 16:14

Just had a thought. Does anyone know if you are supposed to refrain from DTD the night before a transvaginal scan? Just occurred to me that there could be er, leftovers, from the night before up there. Very embarrassing. Would be a shame to miss a night though at such a critical time.

Snowdog37 · 02/08/2016 16:25

They don't mind, they use a lube gel anyway and don't really look at your bits, they're looking more at what they're doing on the screen. I don't waste any opportunities during fertile week. The only time we abstain is for 48hrs prior to the IUI.

OP posts:
Thomasina76 · 02/08/2016 17:28

Snowdogs, why do you abstain for 48 hours before the IUI? To get the best sperm? DH has a ridiculously high sperm count (260 million) so wondering if we need to refrain at all. Maybe just the night before would be sensible. As you said, don't want to waste any opportunities this week!

Snowdog37 · 02/08/2016 17:48

My dh has a great count too. The last IUI we dtd the night of the trigger then did the IUI 36 hours later. His count after being washed was 119 million so we aren't too strict with the time frame. The first IUI we waited 3 days and his post wash count was 31 million so who knows. The clinic says to abstain 48hrs but we don't follow that strictly. If his count was low I think we would, though. It's all such a crapshoot as to what really helps or works. This cycle we dtd last night and I'll probably trigger tonight or tomorrow night so we might dtd tonight and then just wait for the IUI. I just worry about dtd too much and him not being able to finish.

Goshdarnit 😖😣😝 my bloods show I ovulated some time between Sunday and this morning. This cycle sucks. No IUI and I just have to wait for af to show up.

OP posts:
snowy1982 · 02/08/2016 19:35

Surely your scan should have showed that as well snowdog - I'd be pretty annoyed with whoever was doing the scan

Snowdog37 · 02/08/2016 20:10

My follicles on the scan looked perfectly fine, and so I'm a bit flummoxed tbh. My p4 went from 9.36 on Sunday to only 3 today and they are saying I've ovulated. I personally don't think I have 😜 So I'm going to continue dtd just in case. This whole cycle has been a mess for whatever reason. I will write it off, saves us insurance money for another cycle at least.

star1980 · 03/08/2016 06:56

Snow, that's so weird - you still had follicles yesterday Confused I agree best to keep dtd just in case. It's been such a weird cycle, maybe it's odd enough to be the one! Will you move onto injectables now since you've done three clomid rounds? What is p4?

Thomasina, good luck with your scan today. And wow, what a count! We have male factor issues so I can only dream of such a count (latest one was just 11mil Sad) With a count like that though, you must wonder how much of an advantage iui actually gives you on top of well timed intercourse?

Snowdog37 · 03/08/2016 10:51

P4 is progesterone. It apparently goes above 5 once ovulation occurs. But i don't understand how my lh is still at pre ovulation levels and my estrogen went from 300 on Sunday to 408 yesterday, with those two large intact follicles still there! I don't get it at all and the clinic can't explain it either. They insist the bloodwork trumps the ultrasound so I guess I just go with that. We dtd Sunday night and last night, will do it again tomorrow and at the weekend too just in case. It's just bloody typical my two best follies show up after the party ended so to speak. Fingers crossed I'll have a secondary surge maybe and they'll pop too.

OP posts:
Snowdog37 · 03/08/2016 10:54

And yes, it's injectables time once af shows up. Lord knows when that'll be. I'm cd 19 or 20 now but the second course of Clomid might set me back a bit. Af will either rock up in a week or in two weeks... It would be miraculous if she didn't show up at all though!

Thomasina76 · 03/08/2016 14:47

Hi all. So just had the scan (today is CD 10) which showed one follicle measuring 17.5 and a nicely thickening lining. We are doing unmedicated IUI so only the one follicle. Dr predicts I will ovulate on Saturday or Sunday and told me to start doing OPKs from tomorrow. He will do a blood test on Friday if I don't get a positive OPK. Fingers crossed! Good luck everyone else!

snowy1982 · 04/08/2016 06:57

Thomasina will the IUI still go ahead if it's over the weekend? It's something I have been wondering about as I usually ovulate over the weekend.

So after 8 long months, my NHS letter finally came. I don't want to stop with the private treatment as the ball is already rolling, but does anyone know if I give up my place with NHS can I get back on the waiting list if I need to?

star1980 · 04/08/2016 07:40

I see snow, they must measure it in different units in the States as here we're looking for progesterone over 30 to confirm ov. Hope you're ok and looking forward to the next cycle with injectables.

Thomasina, glad the scan went well. How will they time iui? Is it as soon as you get a surge they get you in? Good luck for the weekend. Oh and snowy, I'm pretty sure private clinics operate through the weekend for time crucial procedures. Probably nhs too as it would be a huge waste of money to do injectables say and then not iui on the best day because it fell on a Sunday.

I would keep the nhs appointment whilst doing the private treatment snowy. You don't want to go to the back of the queue again and it'll take a few months before they do anything with you. Also, since you're doing.natural cycle you wouldn't even have to tell them if you didn't want as nothing you're doing will affect any tests.

Thomasina76 · 04/08/2016 10:15

Snowy and Star, the clinic is open all weekend so it's not a problem. Would be a huge waste of money if they didn't open at the critical times! Regarding timing, I think they will book in the IUI once I get a positive OPK test (V rarely happens for me); if I don't get one by Friday then they will do a blood test to confirm LH levels. At that point I think they book in the IUI on either Saturday or Sunday. Saturday is CD13 and I usually ovulate on day 13 so hopefully it will be then. DH and I are both really excited (feels good to be doing something positive towards TTC) but worried about getting my hopes up then getting a BFN again.

snowy1982 · 04/08/2016 10:46

DH and I feel the same way Thomasina - trying so hard not to get our hopes up, but its hard not to get excited now that things are moving. Rang the NHS booking line and asked them not to send me an appointment until November, that way the NHS appointment will coincide with the end of these 3 IUI cycles (and hopefully we won't need it then).

So, if anyone has seen me on other threads, they will know I a big advocate of the distraction technique re TTC and especially the TWW - well I now have the biggest distraction, DH spotted a house which we be our ideal home so it's all guns blazing now to see if we can afford it, whether we can sell our current home etc. Definitely think i need to find a cheaper method of trying to counteract the TTC stress Grin

Julia2016 · 04/08/2016 13:47

Hi ladies, sorry I haven't been updating. I've been following everyone's posts, everything crossed for you all.

On 4 dpo of cycle 3 of Clomid 50mg. Waiting to see if anything this month. I'm being referred to a gyne after this if it doesn't work but there is a two month wait to see the private gyne!! I'm hoping my GP will prescribe another few months of the 50mg. Maybe I should take nothing for a bit but it would feel like going backwards.

maplebaby · 04/08/2016 18:33

Snow so weird that they said you ovulated!! Hopefully this is the month for you!

Good luck for the blood test tomorrow thomasina

Snowy* my hospital / clinic isn't open at the weekend so they say if I get a positive opk on sat dtd and then come in on Monday or abstain if positive on Sunday...

Julia lovely to hear from you - fingers crossed for this month. I think Mrs had a cycle off and that's the month she got her bfp!

AFM I have my scan tomorrow. Hoping that all the follies haven't grown (only want max 3!) and lining has thickened.. Bit worried as for some reason I thought we dtd on Tuesday but actually last time was Sunday night! So would be 5 days of abstinence not 2-3 they recommend (if they were to do IUI tomorrow - although not sure how that would work as I haven't triggered yet and then it's the weekend...) HmmConfused

maplebaby · 05/08/2016 12:57

Just had my scan. There was one big follie about 22mm and another which was almost 15mm. Lining was thin though Sad I peered at my notes and it said 5.8mm I think which means it's only thickened 1.2mm since Tuesday!

Anyway plan is, if get smiley opk tomorrow have sex and they won't do the IUI. If I get smiley on Sunday then come in on Monday for scan and IUI - although not sure if they would if lining is too thin?! They said if at my scan the lining is still thin they would either give me 25mg of clomid or do injectibles instead for the next cycle. Not sure what difference it will make though as I'm convinced it's my lining - have really scanty periods since coming off the pill.

star1980 · 05/08/2016 13:46

Great news about the huge follicle maple, that sounds brilliant. I wouldn't worry too much about the lining at the moment, it still has a couple of days to thicken up a bit. I presume they're concerned that Clomid has caused your lining to thin as I read that can happen so perhaps a lower dose will help. If not, I wonder if they might try a natural cycle, or stim you with something else or give you something (oestrogen?) to help thicken your lining whilst on Clomid. I'm just guessing at the options, but I guess these are the questions I would ask. Well, I'd intend to but so often end up mute and nodding when sat with the consultant!

Best of luck with this cycle, I really hope it works for you first time!

maplebaby · 05/08/2016 14:12

Exactly that star I end up nodding along and think of all the questions afterwards!!

He did say about clomid thinning lining so having 25mg would mean less follies but hopefully thicker lining - or to have injectibles which supposedly don't affect lining.

Currently sat with a hot wate bottle and googling how to thicken lining in 3 days!

Snowdog37 · 05/08/2016 15:00

Great follie size maple 🎉🎉🎉 and I drank a lot of Pom juice, ate strawberries and blueberries, drank full fat milk and ate a couple of nice grass fed beef meals this cycle and my lining was 9.4 even after two courses of Clomid. The Pom juice and berries and beef I think really helped. Drink a lot of water too. Good luck!!!!
I'm on cd22, af is due in 2-3 days. Not sure wtf is going on though so I have no clue when she will show up. For a change I want her here asap so I can move onto my injectables cycle!

OP posts:
maplebaby · 05/08/2016 15:40

Thanks snow! Really disappointed with lining - have been drinking Pom juice for almost 2 weeks now but might increase the beef / red meat. How much milk did you drink a day?

When do you think you'll test if she doesn't show? I want to move onto injectibles too now!

Snowdog37 · 05/08/2016 16:04

I drank a pint a day. I did put on 2lbs in 2 weeks of this though 😜 But honestly it could be the Clomid and I've eaten less junk and been feeling more satisfied so I think there's something to be said for eating full fat dairy instead of the diet stuff.
My bbt has been wacky the last few days, 99.39 a couple of days ago! I will test over the weekend but we only dtd cd6, 8, 16 and 18 as I was waiting for IUI between 11-14 and it never happened. So I doubt it's a successful cycle as its all been such a mess!

Thomasina76 · 06/08/2016 14:51

Hi all. What is Pom juice and what does it do? So, latest update with me is as follows. Started doing OPK on Thursday as requested by dr. Had nothing in the morning and up until 3pm on Friday so was told to come in an have a blood test. Typically I then went home and did a OPK and got a smiley face (first time ever!) so told dr who got blood results at same time. LH level was 29.5 (anyone know what that means/if good?) so dr said to have sex on Friday night, do trigger shot on Sat 10am (which we did), abstain tonight then do the IUI at 11am tomorrow. Bit confused as to why trigger shot is necessary if all signs are that I will ovulate naturally. Asked dr who said that the trigger shot helps with cell division as well so helps fertilisation. Anyone know about this? Have to say, the trigger shot has made me feel really weird. Sick, dizzy, tired, weak and hot flushes. Anyone else had this?
