Hi
I'm 45, 46 in September and 12 weeks pregnant through IVF.
I had 4 previous miscarriages, last one 2 years ago , trisomy 13.
I had my own eggs tested but results weren't good only 10% chance of success. So we opted for donor egg IVF and amazingly it worked straight away. I've just had 12 week scan and everything looks fine, was so lovely to see the baby.
Good luck to everyone trying!!

Emerald72 · 20/08/2015 18:45

Hi Slinky and Welcome Maurice! Lovely to hear your stories and congrats to both on your pg! Maurice do you have any dc yet? And how were your eggs tested, was this at the IVF clinic?

Maurice169 · 20/08/2015 19:28

Hi Emerald 72
Sorry....what's dc, Still trying to come to terms with abbreviation?!
I had my eggs tested here in London. The clinic is linked to a fertility clinic in Barcelona, we decided to go there as there's no waiting list. The wait in London would have been a year or more, it took the clinic in Barcelona 5 weeks to match me with a donor.

ababsurdum · 20/08/2015 19:43

Congratulations Maurice & Slinki, that's wonderful news. I wish you both a happy and healthy pregnancy.

I guess I'm unofficially on the tww. Not expecting anything though.

ababsurdum · 20/08/2015 19:48

And I'm not going to buy any tests! I found out 3 days before AF was due with ds. It was weird, I had this strange urge to do a test that evening.

Eva50 · 20/08/2015 19:55

Hello, I'm not sure if I should really post my story because it's not recent but I will anyway. I conceived within 2 months with both ds1 and ds2. We waited until they were in school (cost of childcare) until trying for dc3. I was 39.5 and again fell pregnant, this time with twins, within a few months of trying. Unfortunately I had a mc at 13 weeks. I was advised to wait 3 months before ttc which I did and fell pregnant the following month but had another mc, this time at 9 weeks.

I then had no hint of a bfp for 16 months and was offered a new job that fitted very well with the older boys but would be less convenient with a baby. My 42nd birthday was approaching, nothing was happening, so we decided to call it a day, I would take the job and be happy with what we had. Christmas was approaching and one evening whilst opening a bottle of wine I realised that af had been absent for a while. I went to Tesco for a test before drinking the wine and BFP! I had an easy pregnancy and ds3 arrived without a problem.

There were two people working in my very small department who had children the same age as ds and both are older (one quite a bit) than me and my friends cousin had her ds at 50. Don't give up hope.

Emerald72 · 21/08/2015 16:53

Maurice dc is dear child! Oh ok, that's worth bearing in mind if we ever go down that route then. Would love to know the quality of my eggs and didn't know they could test for that.

Eva hi and thanks for sharing your story what a lovely happy ending in the end, gives me hope. What did you have for your third? Funny isn't it how things work out at times. Interesting about your friend who was 50! Surely that wasn't her own egg?

Eva50 · 21/08/2015 17:29

I had another ds. It was indeed her own egg and was not planned so was a huge shock.

Maurice169 · 22/08/2015 10:51

Hi Emerald 72
Thanks for the clarification for dc I get it now?!
I had my (genetic) daughter when I was 36 , she's 9 years old,
2 miscarriages at 38,
Son (my genetic) at 40,
Tried for no. 3 but two more miscarriages at 42 and 43.
Tragically my son died in January from a blood infection, like bacterial meningitis. He was 4 years old.
It left us shocked and utterly heartbroken. It was my daughter who got us thinking about trying again. So looked at adoption/ IVF, and here we are. Didn't think it would work first time though. It's put something positive in to a terrible time.

Maurice169 · 22/08/2015 11:22

I've just checked the name of the test re egg quality.
The result is a combination of two things
The first is an ultrasound scan to see how many eggs you have in both ovaries.
The second is your AMH levels (measuring ovarian reserve)
My AMH level was only 0.2, very low, that combined with follicle count of 3 gave us 10% likelihood of success. But it varies women to women. Really hope it works for you!

ababsurdum · 22/08/2015 11:50

Maurice I'm so, so sorry for your loss. How awful. Sorry too for your mc's.

Grizzer · 22/08/2015 12:56

So sorry to hear about the loss of your son Maurice. Bless your daughter for encouraging you to try again & congratulations on your pregnancy.
I have my 20 week scan tomorrow. A bit nervous but I'm sure I can feel movement so whatever happens I'm not expecting the absolute worst!
Hope your tww goes quickly ababsurdum.
Congratulations Slinki.
Anyone due to test soon?
We have an over 40s thread on pregnancy if any of you pg ladies want to come over.

Thanks ababsurdum .
Grizzer, best of luck for tomorrow, feeling movement is very reassuring.

Emerald72 · 23/08/2015 00:32

Maurice I'm so very sorry to hear about the loss of your son, that is just terrible and tragic and my heart goes out to you. I can't imagine how dreadful it must be. Bless your daughter and I'm glad you now have some happy news. Nothing will replace your son of course but this is lovely that you have a new baby on the way x

My AMH is also very low/undetectable but I don't know how many left in follicles? I don't know how I feel about de, was it a big decision for you?

Grizzer hope your scan went well today

Grizzer · 23/08/2015 13:58

All good at scan thank you ladies. I was a nervous wreck before it but am officially trying to relax now.
Hope everyone is ok.

Fantastic news Grizzer, it must be a massive relief. You are halfway now too!

ababsurdum · 23/08/2015 15:04

Did you find out what the sex was?

Maurice169 · 23/08/2015 15:07

Grizzer, great news re scan, now you can have a relax!!

Thanks for your kind words Emerald. Re donor egg decision, we pretty much new it would be adoption or donor egg Ivf. We have close friends and family who have been through both so have some insight. The problem with adoption is the time it takes, during which there's a lot of meetings, interviews in the home, prying into our personal lives. My partners brother went through this and it nearly broke them. It's all fair enough but I know my partner wouldn't handle this, therefore we probably wouldn't pass, especially the recent stress re loss of our son. So donor was the only way really. Our friends and family who went down this road are all happy and bonded well, one thing we decided was to be open and honest and my daughter and I have made a lovely story about the adventure we went on to find a donor.
It's a big decision, lots to think about, I hope you find what's best for you!.

Grizzer · 23/08/2015 17:39

No, I decided to leave the sex as a surprise. Dd has been saying girl for ages but has now decided it's a boy because she 'heard it burp.' Grin

Maurice that's very interesting what you say about the adoption process and also de a good insight into it all. Lovely you've been so open with your dd, it sounds like you've handled it all so well. Will you find out the sex?
