Shock dont we???

bloody hell, for something that is so natural, its a wonder any of us ever get PG!!! Its a bloody tricksy thing to do!!

Emerald72 · 28/07/2015 22:49

Sorry to frighten you there fatty and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I've heard that we don't! I know, it's amazing really isn't it.

Emerald72 · 29/07/2015 17:29

Well appointment went well, had 9 vials blood taken, got to have uterus scan with saline to see if any scarring from ops. Found out last MC was a girl sad
He says we still have a chance of success and not worth doing IVF as we are getting pregnant. Going back next month. Bloods were teg clotting and lupus and thyroid, had before in January but he wanted to repeat. Think it's positive, but nothing they can do about chromosome problems. Asked about hyper fertility issue, he didn't seem to say much about that.

jassS · 29/07/2015 20:07

yeah it is truly weird how these things work. I used to fall pg at first cycle whenever I tried or did not try but was not careful enough (my first was born when I was 19, married though). And then all this secondary infertility happened as if someone had turned a switch....

Emerald72 · 29/07/2015 20:27

It's very strange Jass very complicated

Taja123 · 29/07/2015 20:31

Hi 44 here 6 mth old
Had first at 23 2nd at 44
Keep up the hope xx

joey38 · 29/07/2015 20:56

Thanks taja. How long did it take you to conceive your 6 month old and did you have any mcs before that?

Emerald72 · 29/07/2015 22:33

Hi Taja and welcome! Really really great to hear your story, gives me hope I'll be 44 in January. To echo Joey how was the pregnancy and conceiving your baby? Were you worried about risks being older?

Claramoon · 30/07/2015 19:02

Hello ladies, can I join you? I'm 42 with dd nearly 4 and ds just turned 1. I know how lucky I am to have them but want to try for dc3. I'm still breastfeeding ds though. I know plenty of younger ladies conceive whilst bf. Does anyone know of 40+ ladies who have? Wondering if I have to give up although I really don't want to.

I felt like I waited forever for ds to turn up so am thinking of all awaiting their BFPs xxx

Emerald72 · 30/07/2015 22:19

Hi Clara and welcome, lovely to hear your story. I don't know of any ladies getting pg while breastfeeding but that's not to say it doesn't happen, have you asked your gp or health visitor? I remember when I breast fed they said not to rely on that as contraceptive and I took the pill a swell. Wishing you the best of luck!

VortexOfDisaster · 31/07/2015 06:10

Hi all, good to hear the pg ladies are doing well. Really rooting for you all and so delighted to read about sweet little waving babies!

Another one here v interested in what JassS was saying about immunity issues following boys. Could it be a race between the body relaxing this gatekeeper mechanism and menopause??!! Gosh, it's an obstacle course, ttc, isn't it?

FattyFishwife · 31/07/2015 14:43

maybe its to stop the world being overpopulated with too many males, to keep the human race going? Hmm

Emerald72 · 01/08/2015 11:15

Ha ha good point fatty!!

Malistra · 02/08/2015 14:07

Hi I'm new to these chats. Could someone please explain all these abbreviations, lol.

I'm 42 on Wednesday and have been TTC for a year now after having a coil removed. My cycle hasn't regulated and is all over the place. Is it worth buying a fertility monitor? I'm currently 44 days late with 3 -ve preg tests ????

reni1 · 02/08/2015 16:02

Which abbreviations, Malistra, you are using ttc, so you know some, probably easier to list the ones you don't know.

Emerald72 · 02/08/2015 17:19

Happy birthday Malistra! That does sound a very late cycle, have you been to your gp yet about it? They might refer for tests. Do you have any children yet? Welcome anyway!

Artio · 03/08/2015 15:23

Hi Taja and Claramoon, great to hear your success stories.

Just checking in, AF is due Wednesday for me but I'm not holding out much hope this month. DP came down with a horrendous chest infection right around ovulation time and for some reason my enticing offers of Lemsip and sex didn't appeal to him...

Judylamb · 03/08/2015 15:46

Hi, I'm 39 and trying to conceive our first baby. We've been trying for 8 months now. I've got pregnant before but MC and DP has also conceived with a previous partner who also MC... Have doctors appointment booked for later this month for tests. Any advise or success stories to help me not get too dispondent over it all!

ababsurdum · 03/08/2015 21:08

Evening all. I'm 43 and I have an 18mo ds. We started ttc when I turned 40 and it took us 14 months with not even a sniff of a bfp before then. We tried for a year and then did a private round of IVF - early on we saw a private consultant for an AMH test and a semen analysis to rule out obvious problems. He suggested giving ourselves a fixed time period then going straight to IVF due to my age. The IVF process went very well but was not successful however, amazingly, I fell pregnant naturally the next month. It can happen and I hope it happens for you all too.

We are at a point where we have to finally decide whether to ttc number 2. I would love a sibling for my ds (Ideally not yet but I don't have the luxury of time) but my main concern is chromosomal issues given my age. Of course whether we could even conceive another is a different matter!

Emerald72 · 03/08/2015 23:26

Artio what a shame your DH came down with illness, and such s tempting offer too!

Welcome Judy and ababsurdum! Judy don't give up hope, many couples try for awhile before conceiving and you have got pg before so it can happen.

ababsurdum what a lovely story and very hopeful too it just goes to show. I too am 43 and have DS 2.5, we are Ttc no2 but had 3mc, all 5/6wks the last had chromosome issues we found out, and as there's a pattern to the MC it's likely the others were because of that too. I'm scared to Ttc again but been told we have a chance still. The risks are all higher but it can happen

VortexOfDisaster · 04/08/2015 00:44

I remember some of you - can't remember who - mentioned using progesterone creams some time back. I picked up some because I thought it might be an issue. I was going to try using it for the second half of my cycle. But now I'm worried about cancer associations. Does anyone know anything more? Has anyone had an impact from these creams??

ababsurdum · 04/08/2015 06:15

I'm so sorry for your losses Emerald, it must be very hard. My dh is happy for us to try and take the risk but he is more positive than me, I'm a worrier. I don't think I'd be able to terminate if we found out there were issues and I worry about us pushing our luck trying for another when we've been so lucky already. As I said we have to decide one way or the other very soon, not least because of all the baby stuff taking up space.

Judy don't give up hope. I think the average ttc time is about a year so you're still in that window. Hopefully the doctor will be able to offer some tests that will give you some comfort. I remember our horrible year ttc well, it was such a roller coaster of hope and crashing disappointment each month. I bought so many books and tried so many different supplements etc. in the hope something would help. The month I conceived I started taking coq10 and maca so I'd be adding those straight away if we were to try again though it was probably just coincidence.

Grizzer · 04/08/2015 11:25

Hi everyone, I'm just back from an exhausting week in Butlin's with dd, niece & nephew. They had the time of their lives but I feel like I could sleep for a week!
Just had a text from a friend who turned 40 last September - she's 6 weeks pregnant! Wasn't trying but wasn't not trying. Sex intermittent & it still happened. The success stories are building up.
There is a lady on the pregnancy thread who is 48!!
I am 17 weeks today. Still having wobbles! Pregnancy feelings aren't there often enough for me. I keep panicking. No appointment until 20 week scan now which is not helping my anxiety but I guess I should cling to the belief if the Drs aren't worried I shouldn't be either.
I used progesterone cream Vortex. I didn't know about cancer risk (I can worry about that now instead of baby Grin). I went to a fertility specialist who is medically trained but has gone down the alternative route. I started it after an mc where my progesterone was in single figures. I don't know if it helped next time round or if I just got lucky.

Emerald72 · 04/08/2015 21:10

ababsurdum thank you it has been quite a year too. It is a worry at our age, although I wasn't worried having DS but now I'm petrified! Good luck with your decision. What is Maca? I've heard of that.

Grizzer 48?! Really? That gives me hope! Is it natural pg do you know?

Vortex. I didn't know about cancer risk with progesterone either, I used it last time but was never going to help as was chromosome issues and not much you can do about that

ababsurdum · 04/08/2015 21:47

Emerald it's a sort of root vegetable from Peru. Supposed to enhance fertility amongst other things. You buy it in powder form and can add it to food. I initially bought some muesli with it in but then got the powder and that last month added some to my breakfast and to mine and dh's dinner etc. Who knows if these things help but at least you feel like you are doing something proactive.

I wasn't worried when we were trying for our first either. Well I was in one way because everybody hopes their child will be healthy, but we wanted a child and it would have been a gift regardless. It's a bit different this time as life could still be pretty great with one and the risk is higher this time.

Grizzer I hope the weeks until your scan go quickly. Pregnancy is such a worrying time, it was for me anyway, as nothing seems under your control.
