Hi everyone,

I stopped pill around 25th Jan (after being on it for about 10 years) & I now have no idea what to expect! I realise you can revert back to regular cycles very quickly, or it can take months. But other than that, I have no idea what to expect really!! I had withdrawal bleed for 4 days after stopping pill then nothing since, so I guess I'm just (impatiently!) waiting for some signs/symptoms of ovulation whilst just DTD freely :) would love to chat to anyone else in the same boat!

Hi Thamrin!

I'm on cd25, so AF could arrive at any point in the next 3 days ... If not then I'll be testing fri although I'm trying not to get my hopes up at all. I really feel that the 2ww is an emotional roller coaster, I go from being convinced I'm pregnant to then being utterly convinced I'm not, it's so strange! I've had so many different symptoms, I hope my body isn't just being cruel!! Good luck to you, keep us updated!

Good luck and fingers crossed to those in the 2WW - keep us updated!

Last microgynon tomorrow (I know, I'm starting my obsessing early!) From reading other threads it seems like quite a few people are taking pre-pregnancy supplements and basically avoiding all the things (coffee, alcohol, brie etc) that you should do during pregnancy - what things have you cut out/started since TTC?

I'm of the opinion supplements in general are a bit of a con, but think I'm tempted by them just to feel like I'm being proactive... Ditto cutting things out - though have got a TTC 'bucket list' of all the things I want to do one 'last' time - such as hit my favourite sushi restaurant!

MelMc73 · 15/04/2014 14:27

Perpetual I'm taking double folic acid (as over 40!!) and calcium supplements and a berocca drink everyday (which I did anyway!).....not really cutting things out yet (esp. wine!)....I'll do that if I get a bfp but for now I'm continuing enjoying myself!!

conquita · 16/04/2014 09:00

Melmc73 what is double folic acid? are you taking two tablets instead of one? sorry for stupid q, I am over 40 too and ttc too!

thamrin · 16/04/2014 09:13

Hi perpetual. Yippee for your last pill day very exciting. Good luck for the next few weeks hormones... I love being pill free but the first month was spotty faced and so embarrassed as I guess my hormones were just settling in.
As far as supplements if nothing else u should really take folic acid in my opinion. I am taking a pregnancy vitamin as and when I feel like it but only after ovulation. Usually I take a normal cheapo tesco multi vitamin but have stopped due to fear of excess vitamin A or anything else I don't know about.

POAS next week Thursday for me before a long weekend holiday in Bali! Exciting times...

PerpetualStudent · 16/04/2014 09:25

Thanks ladies!

So (dumb question) where do you get folic acid from? I gather once your pregnant you usually get prescribed it, but in my local boots I couldn't find it - only pre-pregnancy multi vitamins that had folic acid along with a host of other stuff Im not sure I need...

Good luck with the POAS thamrin - how exciting! At least no matter what the outcome you'll have a fabulous holiday to look forward to!

Oh, on other practicalities, can anyone recommend a good thermometer for temping I could buy online - Im guessing amazon might have something?

Right, last pill down - bring on hormones, spots and come what may!

thamrin · 16/04/2014 09:30

Sorry just to clarify I take 400ug folic acid every day religiously and the pregnancy specific vitamins if I remember or if I feel like it :)

thamrin · 16/04/2014 09:32

I bought the folic acid from boots! Its a silver pot with purple label and 180 tablets. I'm sure u can get from supermarket if not at your boots but its probably there just hidden away.

Snowflake27 · 16/04/2014 09:49

Re colic acid, I got mine in the vitamins section in Tesco's, under £1 per tub. Think in boots they may be in the women's specific vitamins section? Good luck x

MelMc73 · 16/04/2014 10:46

conquita....reasonable question! Yes the recommendation is 400mcg-800mcg per day for women trying to conceive and I read somewhere (cant find where now though!) that older women should take more than the minimum recommendation. I get about 390mcg from my berocca drink and take a tablet as well.

perpetual you should start taking folic acid tablets as soon as you start ttc and then for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy....it helps to prevent spina bifida. If you go to your doctor and tell them you are ttc they should prescribe it for you. Here's an interesting article about it www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/913.aspx?CategoryID=54&SubCategoryID=129#close

AF been and gone (and it was horrendous!) so back to the guessing game again as to when I will/if I will ovulate! Ho de hum!

PerpetualStudent · 16/04/2014 11:09

Thanks again ladies! Think I need to hit my big supermarket or a bigger branch of Boots - going on a folix acid hunt!

Going slightly off-topic, just read on the NHS website you should be careful handling cats if you are pregant?! Because their poo can carry toxoplasmoisis or something like that? Im happy to have an excuse not to change the litter tray, but I've had this cat since childhood, she's very old & affectionate so I hate the idea I'll have to avoid her if I get upduffed :(

This pregnany malarkey is more complex than I thought...

PerpetualStudent · 16/04/2014 11:11

folic acid, pregnancy - sorry, phone typos!

Also forgot to say sorry AF's in town MelMc73 roll on BFPs in May!

mrshjb · 16/04/2014 11:25

AF arrived for me today. 35 day cycle and AF rocked up exactly 14 days after ov. So pretty pleased with that but the 4 days of spotting wasn't the best.

I started on the pregnacare vitamins last cycle so I think they might have helped with my cycle. But I'm swapping to the seven seas ones this cycle because they are smaller and I think supposed to be a bit less severe!

Pussycat1one · 17/04/2014 01:50

PerpetualStudent I assume you are in the UK because you mentioned Boots? You should be able to get folic acid from your GP. I get mine on prescription every 3 months.

Currently on tww now. Smile

PerpetualStudent · 17/04/2014 07:28

Can you get it on prescription even if you're only TTC? Thought you had to be upduffed already? Thanks Pussycat1

Pussycat1one · 17/04/2014 08:14

No you need folic acid in your system to prevent spina bifida. Doctors really recommend it to be 3 months before conception preferably.

dietcoketime69 · 17/04/2014 08:26

Morning all, just to keep you all updated... I GOT MY BFP!!!
