Well rp I do have to wrestle with my inner cynic a little when it comes to acupuncture but there is a view that it can improve issues such as heavy periods and generally reduce the effects of stress. I used to have a nightmarish job coupled with a lot if other stuff going on and I felt as though it really took its toll. Now I have a nice job and all the stressful stuff is over but I wonder if the residual effects of being so utterly stressed are still lingering. Recent sessions have made me feel great but am switching to a fertility focused person who comes highly recommended in the hope it will help in some way. My gran has been a fan of acupuncture and I'm sure it has contributed to her being so spritely in her 80s with a better social life than me!

happy our follow up isn't till May so nothing much going on for a while. Seems like ages away but with no diagnosed issues I'm not sure what else they can offer...

barkingtreefrog · 06/03/2014 21:47

tiger I'm also trying very hard to believe in the acupuncture. To be fair I wasn't bleeding at all when I started and now I do have a cycle, wonky as it may be!!

Spoke to DH. Explained all about what a 'normal' cycle should be, and why mine weren't right pre mc and are now wonky in a different way post mc and my concerns about wasting a free cycle if I can't sustain a pg and he agreed that if I'm not reassured after the FC next week we'll go to the private clinic and get the full fertility mot to see if they can come up with anything Grin .

So now just got to add one more question to the list - does doing anything privately affect our NHS entitlement?!

Parsley2506 · 06/03/2014 22:04

That will be a really interesting one barking, I keep wondering about that as we're now back at the bottom of the nhs heap. I'm not waiting another bloody 2 years!

Just watched DIY SOS, so sad but then feeling even worse for feeling envious of the man and his 6 gorgeous kids. Wang please!

MrP and I are off for a 'romantic' weekend away tomorrow am, perfectly timed with OV due mon/tue. FX my eggs and his swimmers are in the mood too!

PS does anyone else ever feel a bit uncomfortable getting it on in a b&b?!? I think it's cos the owners are usually so close by! Wink

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/03/2014 22:12

Barking is it worth adding a question about eg sharing and anything they can do so you can be in time to do that? The worst they can say is no, but you never know

barkingtreefrog · 06/03/2014 22:41

merk yes, I did intend to ask about that but with my thoughts turning to tests beforehand it's probably even more of a pipe dream. I've had a look on the website of the clinic near us and their 'fertility mot' wouldn't really tell us much we don't already know. I think I'm going to have to wait until Wednesday to see what results we can get from the fc then give them a call and see what their next step would be. We pretty much know what our problem is (or at least what it's related to), it's the next steps or more detailed diagnosis I'm interested in.

tmi
And just to make this cycle even more interesting fucked up I just headed to bed wearing a pantyliner (3rd day of brown spotting, still only 8dpo) and felt a gush just before I got into bed. Went back to the toilet and had a gush of bright red blood, the colour you'd bleed if you cut your finger. Wiped, and it was very red still. With little slimy bits in like I saw when I was miscarrying. Shock . WTF?
Put on a night time towel and went back to bed. All very bizarre and I'm just tying not to even let myself think about it.

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/03/2014 23:01

Barking I'm surprised you're still sane, the way your cycles are screwing you about.
Perhaps look for a clinic that specialises in short LP, the distance may have to be the sacrifice

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/03/2014 23:11

Barking there's some stuff in this article that I didn't know (although I guess you've done a lot more reading than me) but it does suggest a biopsy, although that is not recommended by nice but may be worth doing privately

BoodleDoo · 06/03/2014 23:16

Barking, in the spirit of TMI, what you're describing sounds like my AF when it's just starting to kick in. I get a lot heavier than that though, and very...(sorry) clotty. God help you if you sneeze...

Maybe it's a good sign that there's some more lining than normal?

happylass · 07/03/2014 00:00

Yes Barking, what Boodle said. What you described would be perfectly normal for me too. Try not to worry. Hope you get a good night's sleep.

greatbigbushybeard · 07/03/2014 00:29

Periods are weird and I'm far more aware of them now because of ttc than I ever was before. Mine play little tricks on me too. I think she's on her way out and then whoosh another bit clears out, much redder etc. I've noticed a lot more spotting pre af since I had my lap.

The fertility CD looks good. I'm not big into all that affirmation stuff but like the sound of the relaxation. Bit unsure of the hypnosis bit- worries me when people say it puts them out like a light and they have no idea what's on that bit of the CD, I mean it could be telling you to do anything! Also do you know if it comes as an mp3 as I'd want to listen to it on headphones on i pod but don't know how to burn cds onto pod.

We're off to Manchester tom for w/e away. Apparently dh is planning lots of hot lurvin!! Coming out the end from af so you never know may be a good time! Looking forward to eating and drinking out. Have great w/e berries X

barkingtreefrog · 07/03/2014 06:08

Thanks for the reassurance ladies, I can't remember ever having a period with bright red blood! Shock I'll have a look at that site now merk, thanks Smile .

barkingtreefrog · 07/03/2014 06:23

Great article merk. It describes my concerns and explains why I might have got to 6 weeks but was never going to be able to sustain it.
You're right, I have already done massive amounts some googling but I hadn't read that one or heard about a biopsy. As all the others I read, it's not a UK website so it'd be interesting to call a few clinics and see their reaction to 'luteal phase defect'. I won't bother mentioning it to my consultant again as he just told me it didn't exist Angry .
I need to change my name at the gp. I might even nip in there today on the remote off chance that they a) have my results and b) will give them to me. I'll be going past on my way to a meeting so I might as well...

Parsley2506 · 07/03/2014 07:48

barking just adding my 5 pence worth that what you describe sounds like normal AF to me.

Really need to pack my bag, but got drawn in to reading up on supplements! Anyone got any opinions on B6, Maca or Royal Jelly?

barkingtreefrog · 07/03/2014 08:24

parsley Of the three I've only tried B6. Didn't do anything for me but I know it's worked for others.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 07/03/2014 08:25

beard, the hypnosis CD doesn't put you out at all. It is just a music CD that you listen while doing other stuff. It has a list of the affirmations on the back. But I think they only sell it in CD format.

beakybeak · 07/03/2014 08:47

Parsley, Ive not tried any although pregnacare has b6 in it (and my LP did get longer after taking this) but I was thinking about trying maca, apparently it addresses estrogen dominance (the side affect of which is low progesterone). I haven't yet though as I've just started with vitex.

FeatherFeather11 · 07/03/2014 08:50

I took Royal jelly the month I got my bfp. Also, re hypnosis/relaxation mp3s, I was listening to the clomid assistance from the Catchingrainbowsfertility.co.uk website - l'm not usually into that level of hippydom (although I am partial to it), but the woman who runs it comes very highly recommended and she did a health programme for me over email a while back. Might be worth a look!

beakybeak · 07/03/2014 08:55

What does royal jelly do feather?

winohhh · 07/03/2014 09:18

Morning all! Happy Friday!

Parsley, I don't take any of those. I already take 11 tablets a day (11!!!!). Don't think I can cope with anymore!!

Barking, that sounds normal for my af too. I hope that's a good sign that things have started to regulate themselves post mc. I also second the suggestion to try and find a luteal phase friendly FC. My issue is different to yours (high fsh) but having seen 2 different fc's I couldn't have got a more different response. I don't know if you can pay to go private, but the nhs is all about 'patient choice' at the mo, so you might be able to swap your ivf go to a different clinic?

Lady, I saw your clinic said if your fsh is over 15 they can only offer you doner egg ivf. Hopefully it won't be an issue for you, but if it is, just know that there are high fsh clinics out there who get good results with your own eggs. The consultant I saw was horrified we'd been told to consider doner eggs. That's not to say we won't have to consider it at some point, but we've lots to try first.

(Doner eggs keeps auto correcting to sober eggs.. Well let's hope they are!)

winohhh · 07/03/2014 09:22

I got a solid smiley on a clear blue digi this morning, after two days of nothing. Could I be ovulating?? I still have a very very faint line on a hpt. I did get something that looked suspiciously like cm last night... In fact (tmi) far more than I normally get. It's 2.5 weeks since erpc. Please let my cycle be coming back!!

BecauseIsaidS0 · 07/03/2014 09:55

I had acupuncture on Tuesday, CD14, and lots of EWCM on Wednesday and Thursday, when DH and I dutifully DTD-ed. Now for the wait...Hmm

A friend of mine got pregnant after many years of trying when she went on the alkaline diet, so we are doing that this month too.

winohhh · 07/03/2014 15:59

Ha! Donor eggs, not doner!! It's obviously my subconscious resisting them!

BoodleDoo · 07/03/2014 17:27

I've tried maca...did sod all!

FeatherFeather11 · 07/03/2014 18:00

beaky not quite sure - was recommended by an Ayurvedic doc I saw. If it's good enough for the queen bee, it's good enough for me! Must get back on it!

barkingtreefrog · 07/03/2014 18:11

Ok all you google addicts, I finally have my levels (taken 14 months ago and previous to the mc so no idea if they will have changed, but it's all I've got right now) but I don't know the best site to look at to see how much within 'normal' ranges they are. Any recommendations before I google myself to death?

CD21 progesterone showed no ovualtion, so they did it again on CD28 and it was 43. The GP said above 30 was ok but I don't know what the top end of the scale is.

LH = 1.7

FSH = 2.4

And something beginning with an E that I asked him to repeat twice but still couldn't catch the name of - estogile?! (not even close enough for google to give me a clue what it was) was 311.

Of course 14 months later and post mc they could be wildly different....

So all 'ok' but the acupuncturist today (after at first saying that if I was spotting 6 dpo I'd probably got my O date wrong Angry) agreed that I wasn't producing enough progesterone or for long enough, it needed to be stronger. So we're still working on my naughty kidneys and trying to level out my hormones with the acupuncture plus the chinese drugs (and the lovely woman, after I told her I couldn't afford to keep taking the drugs as I just didn't have the money for both, has started charging me student rate for the acupuncture and given me 30% off the drugs as she feels I need a bigger 'push' than just the acupuncture alone [happy]). In the meantime I'll call the private FC and ask if there's anything they would do, and hopefully manage to speak to them before I go to the fertility clinic next Wednesday so I feel armed with information. I didn't get the call from the GP in time to call them today. Perhaps they're open on Saturdays though if it's private?

Sorry, long post as per usual.

Happy weekend everyone! Grin
