Fabulous news Bertha! Smile

digitalgirl · 17/07/2012 20:49

Great news bertha!

Am on phone but someone needs to update the list and move free to Babies Are Arriving Smile. Looking forward to hearing all the details.

mollieboo · 17/07/2012 20:50

Hi bertha, congrats on your successful scan news, has been a great day for the thread :-)
Thanks everyone for advice re testing x

sarahs999 · 17/07/2012 21:06

So excited for the frees - can't wait to hear the name!

Mollie, I was negative on a first response at 10dpo. Positive at 12. I would say 10 days is too early - I know several people who did the same. Shook me up as I had stopped taking the pred when I got the positive result (only poased as I had so many internet cheapies to use up.... lucky).

Coconutfeet · 17/07/2012 21:40

Huge congratulations to the frees! So happy to hear that you've got your little boy safely in your arms.
I hope you're comfortable after the op.
Great scan news today too!

hat a fantastic day. Grin

Coconutfeet · 17/07/2012 21:41

What not hat. Crap phone

Havingkittens · 17/07/2012 23:06

Hooray for Mr & Mrs Free and babyfree! Congratulations!

freelancegirl · 18/07/2012 01:52

Hello all! Thanks so much for posting for me Pebbles xxx

Been lurking but no time/not easy to post. Am just on Iphone now too. Baby lying next to me in a cot! Apparently he's mine and I have to look after him. Haven't yet seen a manual...

There was lots of waiting around but eventually went into theatre around 11.30. Was totally crapping myself. It was so lovely to see mr s though, really comforting to have someone there I knew and he was fantastic!. It wasn't much fun at first, for some reason the spinal kept feeling like it was hitting a nerve, was bloody awful. I found myself shouting out in pain a good ten times whilst the aneathatist tried to get it in. They has to try several different things and in the end gsve me a local anaesthetic for the spine first and a sedative.

The sedative was brilliant! Made me feel fabulous straight away and get all chatty and amused which set the scene for the rest of the op. the whole numb from the waist down bit was really weird but they were soon rummaging around in there and doing some serious pulling. Mr s asked if I did a lot of exercise as my stomach muscles were way too strong. In the past now I am sure!

Eventually I felt a huge lift of weight and there was the baby, held up in front of us for us to take stock of his boy bits. It was incredible. DH held him whilst I was stitched up and we eventually made our way back to recovery where I think I might have breast fed! I say 'think' as he did really well latching on to the first one but was on and off as he kept nodding off. So whether he got anything or not that time or later this afternoon I don't know.

Quite bizarrely he is all DH to look at! Pinky colour - of course that might change - and DH's features. I thought my half Asian colouring would mean strong genes. DH has been amazing. Then mum and dad arrived when we went to the ward and are just in love with their first grandchild.

The little one is now hopefully asleep here next to me in the cog but I just can't relax enough to get some much needed rest. Still staring at him! Can't quite believe he's here. It's almost 2am though.

Of course i have to have something to mental about and am a bit scared as they said he had a low ph in the umbilical artery when measured after birth. Dr google says rather scary things like starved of oxygen, cerebral palsy, death...He did have a high - 9 out of 10 - apgar so am so hoping he is ok. Everyone keeps remarking about how big and long he is. Any words of comfort on this one would be helpful.

Jesys there's no way I feel I can sleep and take my eyes off him tonight. How have the rest of you done that?! Every now and then he has a cry and I have to call a midwife to help settle. Tomorrow I should be more mobile and be able to lift him myself and sit up etc. in the meantime might be here all night watching him to check he's breathing.

Oh his name is Sebastian Christopher Kirk and he was 8.11 lbs.

Am so so pleased to hear of good scan news from Sue and Bertha. Sorry if I've missed other things, but trying to write this for hours and want to send. Thanks so much for all the support xxxxxx

Oh and yes, someone update the list with this baby and good scan news - we have to celebrate these milestones!

digitalgirl · 18/07/2012 03:29

So happy for you free, welcome baby Sebastian!!! I don't think you will sleep the first couple of nights as there will be too much adrenaline. I found it easier to catnap while dh was around in the day, knowing he was there to watch the baby.

Am afraid you'll be sleeping quite lightly from now on! Even now I wake to check F is breathing. Just know that millions of other mums are up around the world with you (am currently breastfeeding F).

S may not feed tonight or much of tomorrow, if you can get one of the mw's to show you how to hand express colostrum into a syringe then syringe feed S while attempting to breastfeed that could give him a head start, and also help your milk come in by day 3/4. He's a nice healthy weight so he'll hopefully get hungry soon.

That looking like their father thing is all too common too! I was incredibly disappointed DS1 wasn't a replica of me, after I'd carried him for 9 months but as he grew there were more resemblances in our baby photos.

But am rambling now and I think F has actually finished so must go. Feel free to pop over to post-natal and we can liven up that thread as its quite slow at the moment - anyone would think we were busy with something.

Cheerfulcharlie · 18/07/2012 05:11

Finally I can log in!
free congratulations! Beautiful name and he sounds perfect! A good weight and a pretty much perfect Agpar score. I bet he's gorgeous. I'm glad it went so smoothly for you. No wonder you can't stop staring at him.

Even from the scans it's quite evident my little boy looks just like his dad and nothing like me! I'm quite pleased with that though as DH is gorgeous himself (possibly I am biased!).

At my check up yesterday baby is not engaged and doc is already talking about induction dates in 2 weeks time which has peed me off as I am keen to avoid any sort of induction. I am on mission engagement now - cue lots of bouncing on the ball last night and today I'm going to go walking round the hugest mall in the world to encourage him down. If anyone has any tips for engagement I'd be really happy to hear them.

Sorry - am on phone so can't update the list at the moment.

I'm so pleased to hear positive scan news.

mercator · 18/07/2012 06:38

Free Congratulations again. Glad all went well and lovely name for the little chap. I"didn't sleep either after having my little girl for what it's worth. It does get easier but Digi is right you just keep checking on them to check they are breathing. Hopefully once you're up you'll feel a little better but will probably be quite tired.

I can't comment on the apgar score but if you are worried ask them to get a paed to take a look or ask for an explanation but I hope all is well on that front.

Try and enjoy this special time with your little man, you've been on quite a journey and have been an insprition to us all. Chuffed to bits for you!

Lovely to have had Mr S do the delivery. I wonder if he does a ward tour. I don't recall mine doing one but you never know.

On the looking like Dad my dd looked the spitting image but has become more like me once the hair came in and her eyes changed from blue like her Dads to brown like mine, but still has the same head shape as dad and wicked sense of humour!

Enjoy and speedy recovery!

mercator · 18/07/2012 06:46

free just checked and 8-10 scoring on Apgar is what they want to see i.e. normal. MLow would be 5-7.

picolina123 · 18/07/2012 07:03

congratulations mr and mrs free and welcome to the world baby sebastian, get ready to be spoilt rotten!!

sarahs999 · 18/07/2012 07:13

Welcome baby Sebastian! Free, you sound totally in love already. WEll done you! Can't wait to meet him... any idea howlong you'll be in hospital for?

Jemimapuddleduk · 18/07/2012 07:47

Oh thats a lovely story free :) I am so pleased for you xx

I saw the MW yesterday and this babe is still breech so I may be heading for a c section too - I have a scan next week :)

batteryhen · 18/07/2012 10:16

I have tried to do the list but my lap top is on go slow. Can someone have a go?

ChoccyPud · 18/07/2012 11:56

Congratulations free family lovely news. I'm all teary! xx

igggi · 18/07/2012 12:06

Congrats again Free - 9 is a brilliant score btw, nothing to worry about there. Trust me if they have concerns they will be telling you, not the other way round. And yes, you were breastfeeding! I wish I'd known first time round that there's nothing that looks like or flows like 'milk' till around day 4 - all the (seemingly pointless) sucking gets him the magic colustrum but also it actually stimulates your milk to come in.
Anyway, off to read other news (scans?) now.

LAF77 · 18/07/2012 12:48

Many congratulations Free, Sebastian is a great name. Your son will steal your heart. I still check on my son's breathing nearly 4 months on! The bf section of MN is a great place for support.

Be ready for the breast tissue in your armpits to hurt when your milk comes in on day 3. I found that a hot water bottle under the armpits made it bearable as it softened the tissue.

Wishing your family all the best.
