TTC first baby

Hello all! DH and I are TTC our first baby, I'm 31, he's 32. We've only been trying for a month so it is extremely early days but I'm so excited at the prospect.

DH may have some fertility issues (picked up on a scan) but I was pretty convinced it was going to be a BFP straight away as I had so many symptoms - but that shows how much I know! Blush

Is anyone else TTC their first baby? Please join and keep me company!!

Maclairey - thanks hun :)

Kicking and Kitten just to let you know my friend who has just had a baby had an epidural in her spine. She says that she didn't feel a thing and she is a total wuss about needles and goes all queezy at the thought! It made me feel better when she told me so I thought I'd share :)

Pinkie29 · 06/06/2012 17:16

Kicking its your for £45 if you want it Smile

Thanks newbie!! Nail on the head there I'm very nervous but feeling better about it each day and was nice to see dp so happy at the cb result!

Re birthing: In my mind I'd like to give birth but the reality is with my anxiety problems I could work myself up so much and have a huge panic attack mid labour so I guess it's weighing up the likelihood of that and then the practicalities of having a section? You can have an elective section for things like that but last resort, don't like the idea of numb from waist down!

Most women are up and about the day after birth, after a section your in hospital 3 days and can barely sit up for two/three weeks and can't drive for 6, risk of infection :/ one of my friends couldn't even lift her dc for 3 weeks she had a terrible time emcs after long labour felt so sorry for her.

On a selfish note if I give birth I worry things won't ever feel the same ahem... In thereHmm

Newbie2 · 06/06/2012 17:20

Pinkie if Kicking doesn't take you up on that offer let me know x

KickingUpQuestions · 06/06/2012 17:22

Pinkie - I've had the surgery and it's definitely not as bad as that. I had the surgery late in the afternoon but the next morning, I was up and showering, walking around the building. I was in hospital for 3 days - but my SIL was in hospital for about 5 or 6 days giving natural birth? She went in a couple days before as well.

Yep - there can be tearing down there which requires stitches. You can also lose the muscle tone when you get older and the inners can need to be stitched up. And things are never the same down there - especially not for DH...

I have severe anxiety when I think about it. Plus I have the added surgery issue. My mum (and a variety of mates) all had c-sections and none of them would have it any other way.

I didn't find the surgery that sore. i just took it easy the first week to make sure I stretched the muscles out.

KickingUpQuestions · 06/06/2012 17:23

Will chat to DH about it. Not convinced he will agree though so will confirm tomorrow.

Then newbie can take it if he doesn't want it :)

QueenOfTheDrama · 06/06/2012 17:41

Hi all, you lot have been busy today! Going to read back over thread and catch up.

But can I just say massive congrats to pinkie on your cb bfp! Grin Really happy for you and your dp! Oh how did dp's interview go btw? good day all round? Grin

Welcome to the new ladies that I haven't already said hello to! Smile

redstrawberry · 06/06/2012 18:04

I think I am just petrified of birth, whether they cut me up or I have to push one out! I would rather they just magically come out without any c-sections and not through my vagina Wink

Although if I had a gun held to my head I would go for the pushing and heaving and epidurals only because as Pinkie said I have been around 3 pregnant women - 2 with natural births who were up and about next day and 1 who had a C-Section who was unable to get out and walk for 3 days and taking showers was difficult, bending, driving etc... and I am one to choose a massive amount of pain for 24 hours, rather than prolonged pain over 3-5 days.

But either way I think having a baby (literally the act of it) is such a personal and private thing for a woman that the least the NHS could do is offer us a choice and not just enforce the natural birth method.

Pinkie29 · 06/06/2012 18:32

I guess you have to go with what suits you best regarding birth, I've just heard so many people say that natural is best. Think I'll mention it to the midwife and see what she thinks Hmm id opt for a designer vagina if needed after

Thanks queen still sinking in and trying not to worry that every twinge is af!! Dps interview went great they rang within half hour of him getting home to book a 2nd one on Friday Smile

DulcetMoans · 06/06/2012 19:17

I just got proper confused reading this on my phone, then realised I was reading it backwards! The conversation makes no sense that way by the way!!

None of the birthing options sound that great. The bathing pool looked good on one born every minute but mainly because the baby is clean when they hand it to you then!

QueenOfTheDrama · 06/06/2012 19:30

Thats great news about your dp's interview pinkie - fx the 2nd one goes just as well.

Re birthing options, I think that I would rather push the baby out but I also have huge fears about permanent damage down there! One of my friends had a natural birth without so much as a scratch and was back to normal straight away! If only we all could be so lucky!

MissMedusa · 06/06/2012 20:08

I had abdominal surgery a month ago to remove a cyst from my ovary (which is minor surgery compared to a c-section) and I would not do that again willingly. I definitely would not have been up to carrying or lifting a baby for at least a week. I was also so groggy from the anaesthetic, I slept for the better part of 2 days. I wouldn't want to be like that with a new baby to care for.

If I have a choice I will definitely give birth naturally.

Newbie2 · 06/06/2012 20:16

I want a natural birth when it's my turn. I used to say I want a caesarean but my friends and family have had a lot smoother ride post birth with natural births. As long as the baby is healthy and safe that's all I care about. Need to conceive first!

MumOfTwoCats · 06/06/2012 20:42

I`ve just spent half my eving catching upon this thread. Congrats to Pinkies Dh, fx for him!
Hi to everyone! We are similar to a few who have posted, I'm 29, Dh is 36. Been together 10 years. Cycle 4. AF imminient!

Re birth options 6 out of 7 births my immediate family were c-sections! I think its on the cards for me!

redstrawberry · 06/06/2012 21:05

To all those who have had bfps - What vitamins did you take besides the usual pregnacare / folic acid doses?

Thinking of upping the anti with some B6 and EPO next month.
Can I take both or stick to just one of the two?

If it doesn't wrk out this month I want to give the soldiers a better survival chance by improving the quality of CM.

Also how much should I take every day upto OV in terms of dosage? Epo is available in 1000mg capsules and B6 in 100mg

NicolaHazel · 06/06/2012 21:28

Hello ladies...accidentally managed to hide this thread earlier whilst trying to hide my phone browsing at work! Fail.

Back now though.

Hi Maclairey :-) Isn't it great to see loads of new people here?

I have to say that being on the injection was like body stasis...didn't feel anything down below. Then on the pill I got awful cramping during ERTD, but off the pill I can almost feel my lady bits reawakening! Twinges and aches all around! Hopefully that's a good sign. :-)

QueenOfTheDrama · 06/06/2012 21:35

Sounds like a good sign to me nicola Smile

red I'd also be interested to know about recommended doses of epo etc. All I'm taking at the mo is folic acid but going to start on some other things next month too if not successful this time round.

Newbie2 · 06/06/2012 21:40

I've been craving so many sweet things since coming off the pill. I can't stop eating :( Anyone else in the same boat?

NicolaHazel · 06/06/2012 22:00

I do hope so, Queen!

And I'd be interested in dosages too, though I really need to get a grip on my cycle before taking EPO, I think.

And I haven't really craved anything since coming off the pill, Newbie, though I wasn't on it that long and the injection was slightly different, I think.

redstrawberry · 06/06/2012 22:10

I am sure some one will be along soon to offer some wisdom on dosages kickingtheguru perhaps?

QueenOfTheDrama · 06/06/2012 22:19

Not really sure about cravings as it's been so long since I used any form of contraception (I'm talking years!) But iirc I put weight on whilst ON the injection rather than off it as I was starving all the time? I was also a moody cow. Both were reasons why I ended up coming off it!

Pinkie29 · 06/06/2012 22:19

We need like a bat signal haha

BryonyJ · 06/06/2012 22:22

Hi Echo Dragon, i did wonder if that was all it was, but since coming off the pill everything has gone like clockwork, and just didnt think it would start messing about after so long? im now roughly 16 days late, so testing again tomorrow, and if still nothing then going to the doctors. see if they can figure it out :/

Pinkie29 · 06/06/2012 22:25

Thanks mumofcats 'mioooow'

Red, here's my list:

B6 50mg
Folic Acid 400mg
Vitex 2000mg
EPO 3000mg

Yes I rattled!! You need to stop the vitex and epo after ovulation tho as can cause tiny contractions.

Welcome to any newbies that I've missed Smile

redstrawberry · 06/06/2012 22:32

Thanks Pinkie - just what I needed :)

I'm not so hopeful this month. Weirdly feel July will be our month!
Besides DH is away now till the weekend so that screws up EOD plans.

He's also away working next week. He travels for work but hoping he will be local in July.

So it's going to be weekend humpages in June :(

QueenOfTheDrama · 07/06/2012 06:49

Thanks for the list pinkie - got some sort of idea of where to start now. How did you know when you were ov though so you knew when to stop taking the epo/vitex?
