IVF/ICSI/FET - any more for any more?

Hi all, we're about to start FET following an unsuccessful round of ICSI last year (well, we got the bfp, but then I miscarried shortly after Sad). But... time to get back on the bike and go again...

Anyone else going through this?

Hi Jumping, I'm sort of nearly with you. I've been due to have FET since first round IVF didn't work last May but have been putting it off and procrastinating ever since and trying acupuncture and chinese medicine stuff. think having it not work affected me more than i thought, am not feeling quite brave enough again yet. Good for you for getting back up and having another go. Are you waiting for AF to start meds? What day are you on?

KnackeredCow · 05/01/2012 19:58

Jumping and CareBear I'm in the same boat too. Actually almost identical to Jumping's. We had our first round of IVF in November. We had a good blast transferred and I got a BFP. Was absolutely over the moon. Clinic confirmed pg and levels were good, but sadly had a very early m/c a few days later. I felt totally floored when it failed.

Anyway, booked in to do FET during next cycle, so just waiting for AF to arrive.

I'm nervous as we only have one frozen blast. It's a grade 4Ab/a, which they've told us is excellent BUT there's only a 70% chance it will survive the thaw. Dreading being ready for transfer and then being told blast hasn't survived defrost Sad Must think more positively...

jumpingjackhash · 05/01/2012 21:42

Hello! Sounds like we are in the same situation knackered. Care just go for it when you feel ready, it can only help to be in the right frame of mind I guess.

I'm on day 36 now, although usually have a 32 day cycle (last one was first since the mc), so I'm expecting to hit day 1 any time now.

We only have 1 blasto frozen too, our clinic puts a 25% success rate on FET, but they also put the mc rate at 24% and we managed to get that, so maybe 25 doesn't look so bad?! Wink

bugsylugs · 05/01/2012 22:22

Best of luck guys just popping in as was on another thread with jumpinig. Never realised m/c rate was that high.

KnackeredCow · 05/01/2012 22:33

That's a good way to look at the odds! Smile

Jumping Are you doing a medicated or un-medicated cycle?

My next cycle should start around 14th so about one week behind you. I find the waiting around one of the hardest parts of assisted conception but I'm really impatient

jumpingjackhash · 06/01/2012 07:38

We're doing medicated, still waiting for day 1 ... Waiting is so boring!

. How are you?

bugsylugs · 06/01/2012 07:57

Doing of thanks awaiting that first dreaded scan eventually started tx yippee

zeebee1 · 06/01/2012 12:24

Hello all - its me again!
Happy new year all on this thread...

So after our 2 embryo transfer in mid oct we got a bfp! Then argh -7 weeks later At our scan there was just 1 empty sac... We were devastated. It was an awful time -then Had a nightmare getting the hosp to agree for me to have a d&c under general- finally on 27th nov had sac removed. So had a good Christmas and feel ready for FET. Today is day 2 of AF - my first since d&c. We are off to Thailand next sat for 2 weeks before we start again with medicines. 1st appt at guys this afternoon to discuss... Phew!
Anyway hello jumping again - Smile
Hi to care and knackered... Let's do this thing!!! Wink

Teds77 · 06/01/2012 13:36

Popping in to wish you all luck with the next stages and to stare sternly at Care until she books in for that FET...

In all seriousness, I'm not really going to be that bossy Blush. I know that it's a very personal decision and IVF isn't for everyone. I also know it hurts a lot when it doesn't work. But, and this is the good bit, it feels fabulous when it does work.

I also think it's so difficult to read much into the success or failure of one or even two or three cycles. And for those of us for whom it doesn't work first time I think, sadly, it's often just down to bad luck. So I'm wishing you all the very best of luck in the world for this next go.

ellangirl · 06/01/2012 16:04

Hi everyone, esp to those who remember me from our last failed cycle. I have just started down reg today for a fresh icsi cycle and feeling very nervous about it all. Anyone else feel differently going into a second or subsequent round?

theowlwhowasafraidofthedark · 06/01/2012 16:11

Hi ladies.
Just popping in as I recognise a few of your names. Good luck with all your FET. I'll be following your progress with interest as we'll be going down the FET route if we decide to go for no.3...

I'm 26 weeks pg at the moment (as a result of ICSI) and it's all starting feel a bit real.

Good luck XXX

jumpingjackhash · 06/01/2012 17:44

Hello there!

Waves at zeebee, Teds & ellan from the other thread!

zeebee, sorry you had such a problem with the D&C, but glad you're on the up and ready to go! Your hol is perfectly timed, you'll be all relaxed and refreshed!

ellan, sorry it didn't work last time, I know what you mean about starting again though. While we're giving FET a whirl rather than the full icsi this time I can't help feel different. Last time (our first time) I was full of excitement and ready to grab it by the balls (if you'll excure the appalling pun!), now I'm quite wary and not letting myself get carried away. I guess I'm still trying to find that balance between optimism and realism!

Welcome owl. Congrats ont he icsi success! You can be our shining example of how well it can go! Is this your second, or are you expecting twins?

So, today is officially Day 1.. wahey! Have just called the clinic and left a message so guess they'll call me next week to arrange a scheduling appointment. zeebee, is the set-up of the FET at Guys the same as the icsi, in that you meet with the nurse to go through the process and drugs? At least there's no stimming this time! Small mercies, eh?

skitoo · 06/01/2012 17:51

Hello Ladies - I also recognise many of you from the old ivf thread and want to wish you all the very best of luck. I shall be keeping everything crossed and waggle dancing for you through every step of the process, which I know is so tough.

I'm 22 weeks pg with twins and same as Owl, it's starting to feel real. My DSinL is also pg after a FET the week before us - so hang in there, it can work xx.

blacktreaclecat · 06/01/2012 17:58

Wishing you all lots of luck. 14 weeks here.

KnackeredCow · 06/01/2012 18:39

It's great to see those of you who have been successful as it's easy to lose perspective when it doesn't work.

Zeebee So sorry to hear of your loss, but good to see you're up for giving it another go. It sounds odd, but it's almost reassuring knowing there's a few of us in the same boat having had BFPs followed by M/C. As Teds says, often failure is just down to bad luck.

Ellan and Jumping Yes I feel differently too. A lot less excited and much more wary.

FatimaLovesBread · 06/01/2012 21:21

Hi Jumping and everyone else
We're waiting to start ICSI with egg share, hopefully i'll be starting on the hormones this month. Just a matter of waiting for the clinic to ring me once my egg share recipient has rung them.
I'm going mad waiting perfectly calm obviously Grin

jumpingjackhash · 08/01/2012 17:16

Hey there all, it's good to have some success stories on here - it really helps to know it can and does work!

Fatima, welcome to the thread! Is this your first round of ICSI?

pumpkinjoy · 08/01/2012 21:53

Hi all, I remember alot of you guys from before-our last (2nd) treatment worked, only to be told at 8week scan twins hadn't developed properly and had my 2nd ERPC on november 1st. To say we were/are devestated is an understatement. Personally, am struggling with it all massively esp with low esteem and tearfulness, while still maintaining exterior "all is well" persona. As it was 2nd MMC consultant did blood tests which all came back normal so am having hysteroscopy/laparoscopy on 19th before hopefully having a FET as soon as poss. Jumping and Knackered we only have x1 frostie too-a 5AB blast. The whole situation is really CRAP to put it mildly but we HAVE to think 2012 will be our year.

monkeybumsmum · 09/01/2012 18:27

Hi all, I have been lurking on the other threads for quite a while now although silly superstition stopped me from introducing myself. Our first round of IVF resulted in an early mc, then our first FET failed so to hell with superstition!

Anyway, we have been trying for DC2 now for almost four years. I've had 4 losses since then, one in the second trimester, so it's been a pretty terrible time. I have endo and an incredibly low level of AMH, but am still hopeful that we can achieve our dream of having another baby.

I have a scan tomorrow morning (CD10) and I hope that we'll be cracking on with our next FET. We have two left in the freezer, and will be getting both transferred I hope!

I feel like I already know a lot of you from lurking, and you all seem lovely Smile I hope this ends well for us all...

FatimaLovesBread · 09/01/2012 18:37

Thanks Jumping Yes, this will be our first go at ICSI.
Spoke to the clinic today and they should be contacting me any day now, but seeing as today is day 21, looks like it's going to be 4 weeks time :)

Ahh well, plenty of time to get fitter before I hopefully get pregnant and fatter Grin

jumpingjackhash · 10/01/2012 09:50

Morning all, welcom monkeybumsmum, here's hoping you get another monkeybum! So sorry to hear what you've been through until now - with luck this will work for you.

pumpkin, another familiar name . Sounds like you've been through hell - I'm not surprised you've been feeling low. Feel free to pour it all out on here over Brew and virtual chocolate. You're right in saying 2012 will be 'the year' though, if we don't think like this it will never happen. You have a frostie waiting for you! Smile

Fatima, you're not with Guys are you?! They can be pretty slack at calling back at the beginning of a cycle, but once you're under way you can't get rid of them!

I've started on the health regime again, high-protein diet, no booze, moderate gym sessions (well, when I can be arsed to go). Once the drugs start I'm sure the odd choccy bar will be required too.

Actually, those who have done FET, how are the drugs vs ICSI/IVF? I'm not injecting, but think I'm going on a different sniffing drug [shockingly-completely-clueless-on-a-lot-of-this emoticon].

Hi All

Nice to get posting again and to read everyone's stories. I really feel for all of us on here - going at it again - hoping it will work this time around.

Pumpkin, I was so sorry that you have been through FET twice - I can understand how you must be feeling - it just seems so unfair doesn't it that for seemingly everyone else on this earth it's all so easy to get PG... anyway lots of luck to you for 2012. It's got to be the right year!

We are off for a holiday on Saturday - so i won't be back on this until end of January now. We will start our drugs I hope around Feb 22nd. Jumping - our first chat with the Dr last week was just to talk about logistics etc. Also - do you know how long we are de regging then taking the tablets before possible FET?? Also - are you staying with Guys again?

Hello monkeysbum - I like your name and hello Fatima I remember you from the other thread.

Have good Wednesdays all

ZB

Hi Ladies

I to had a failed ISCI in December heart breaking but we were very fortunate to have 1 on Ice Smile the only question now is when to start or FET.How long were you advised to wait or did you ladies go with what your heart or head was telling you Im so confused

zeebee1 · 11/01/2012 22:20

Hi closelight
So sorry about your failed iCsi but at least you have 1 on ice...
Our doctor said to wait about 2-3 months before doing FET - so that you have time to adjust and usually 2 cycles is better to wait before starting a fresh.
Good luck
Zb

pumpkinjoy · 12/01/2012 00:53

Hi lovely ladies,
Recognise a few familiar faces hereSmile -just think its SO UNFAIR we all have to go through this again-yep-still on a bit of a downer.
Sad Sad
monkey hello-I recognise your name frm other threads. Sorry about your losses-it is very painful. How did your scan go?

Jumping how are you doing? Thanks for saying I can let it all out-might have to take you up on that!-feel free to do the same-when do you start your FET? I was wondering about the drug side of it too-wanting to know if a medicated or non-medicated cycle is 'best'-my incling is for medicated-that way I don't have to put so much faith in myself and it is perhaps more certain my body will do what it's meant to at the correct time-sounds like your treatment is imminent.

Hi Zeebee-thanks for being so kind, I really feel for us all too-it really is a tough going situation. Enjoy your holiday-am sure it's somewhere gorgeous and you will be able to relax as you deserve Thanks Thanks
Hello closelight am so sorry to hear about your failed cycle-it really is devestating. Sending hugs to you. We also have an embie on ice-as its only the one the consultant said we can go for it or go for fresh cycle-We feel FET is the way to go for now-like I couldn't just move on and forget about our frostie. I have also battled with your question about WHEN to go for it-my thinking is always as soon as possible but then I look back and think the last 3.5 years have purely been about TTC-everything else takes a back seat-I'm scared of it failing again/miscarrying and then having to make more/different decisions. Saying that, 'a break' isn't an option for me either as it will always be at the back of forefront of my mind.

Sorry have droned on too much-must go to sleep-have to be up early-lot of love to all and speak soon xxxx
