Freak Out Room For Those Newly Diffed Up After MC Part IX

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

oh lady I'm sorry that you have had spotting. How horrid. I know that it can be part of a normal pregnancy, but like you, it hasn't led to success in the past pregnancies.

However, if they have identified an area of bleeding in your womb, it can be explained.

I'm sure that if you were really concerned, your clinic would have you back in for another scan on Friday, so you can relax over the weekend. They seem like that they are really supportive.

Regarding a doppler, you should be able to use it with results at 13 weeks. It could be a bit hit and miss though, so hopefully, it wouldn't freak you out. I'm still using mine twice a day Hmm

Regarding your DS, I don't have any children, but maybe it is better to wait until he asks you because he knows something is different? I really don't know if that is a good plan, it could be a rubbish thought though.

Great news on the low-risk for trisomies ladymaybe and also fantastic that you've been graduated from the RMC.
Sorry to hear about the spotting - but at least you know what's causing it and that its not anything that should harm the baby. Is this more likely because you're on Clexane and your blood isn't clotting? Still it would be so much easier if you didn't have to deal with it at all.
WRT telling DS, we've told DS (3.2) that there is a baby in my tummy - mainly to stop him kicking and jumping on me. He's also come along to a couple of scans. First one he didn't pay any attention, but he came on Saturday and looked at the 'black baby'. He's also seen the printouts from the scans and knows that it is a picture of the baby. However, we've not said anything about the baby coming out and will be a brother or sister for him. Saving that till the last possible moment I think.

Amazing that I'm actually genuinely thinking quite long-term about this now. I was wondering to myself how feasible days out would be with a baby, a 3 year old and just myself to herd them around.

How is everyone else?

Biscuitsandtea · 27/10/2011 12:31

lady great news on the risk scores, but sorry about the spotting. As LAF says I'm sure the clinic would have you back if you needed an extra scan?

Our DS is 3 and we told him after the 12 week scan. He hasn't been to either scan as they were both on his nursery days. He's seen the pics though. We told him, like digi so he understood why he was getting told off for leaning on and clambering over me! Also, he's just turned 3 and so understands everything everyone says (well, you know, obv doesn't understand everything) and also knows about friends who have babies in their tummies and then has seen the babies after they're born so gets the idea. So we didn't want him to pick it up from someone else if it was being bandied about in conversation!

I think though that the novelty has worn off for him - he used to ask lots of questions and want to cuddle and kiss it, but he's a bit blasé about it all now Smile. He knows it is coming after Christmas and I think that's far enough off for him!

milkyways · 27/10/2011 16:11

Just popping in to see how you're all doing - Really sorry to hear bump's news. My thoughts are with you and your family xx

Lovely to see everyone's having good scans. Seems like a life time ago I was in my first trimester; what a nerve wracking time!

LAF - Congratulations for getting to week 19! That must feel pretty amazing!

On the doppler debate - I got one from week 11, and stopped using it after week 23 when I started getting regular movements. I feel baby kicking and squirming around all the time now, and that keeps me sane.

Lady - My DD will be 4 in November, and I told her about her baby brother/sister as soon as I was confident that things would work out. I think it was around week 14 after my final scan at the EPU. As she's been the baby of our family for so long, I didn't want to shock her with the arrival of a new person, so we talk about her baby brother regularly, and I've started making her join in with sorting baby clothes out etc, so it doesn't seem like a big life changing experience when he does come along.

digital - I've started thinking the same thing! My DD is being a right madam these days - running away from me when we're out and not listening...I'm dreading going out with her and the baby!

Hope everyone is well, and hope to see you over in the grads thread soon!!

I have just received a letter from my hospital with an appointment in the Haematology clinic in 2 weeks time.

Any other clexane junkies been told anything about seeing a Haematologist? What will they even do? yet more blood tests? I think my veins will protest!

KnitterNotTwitter · 28/10/2011 12:06

Great scan news and sorry for the spooting Lady at least you understand why even if it is still freaky/horrible

DS has known about the pregnancy for about as long as I had. Literally 2 or 3 days after conception he started asking about the baby in my belly and talking about it and when it would be born. We didn't tell him that I was pg he just knew (spooky child!) It's actually been quite a comfort to me - he tells me that it's growing nicely (as confirmed by scans!) and he's sure it's a boy - he's even suggested the name Norman Pirate... DH is quite taken with Pirate for a middle name so we may even go for that (probably second middle name!)

Obviously he's only 3 so I should take his views on this subject with a pinch of salt.. but still it's nice that he's so confident about this one :)

KnitterNotTwitter · 28/10/2011 12:07

spotting not spooting Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 28/10/2011 12:18

Knitter that's so cute about your DS - it's amazing how kids know about these things isn't it :)

LimeFlower · 28/10/2011 12:59

Hello lovely ladies:)
Sorry for disappearing-still feeling shite sometimes and back to work combination doesn't mix up too well.I promise I'll catch up with all your news at the weekend.

Had a mw appointment last Friday-mw is lovely, very approachable.Got a letter with scan appointment yesterday-7th of Nov so will be between 11-12 weeks.DP wants to go with me.
Went to the med practiceto ask for a flu jab-the very nice nurse said that if I insist I can get one NOW,but she'd personally wouldn't have it before 12 weeks and the fact that i'm still recovering from cold is another thing against it.Told me to come back at 13-14 weeks.

My belly started bulging a wee bit-I'm quite slim and always had a problem with my trousers being too loose at the waist-at least I'll make use of a couple of pairs lying idle for too long. The only one pair that fits me perfecly started to be too tight at my waist.Question to those more advanced-when did you notice something appearing?

Got to 10 weeks-whoop whoop:)

The older guy at work asked me whether I was pg-I denied(liar, liar, pants on fire) and now I'm asking myself "how the heck he knew???"I'm planning to say at work after my scan as my work involves lifting up some things. As for now I'm playing a gooseberry of being weak after a chest infection to dodge any heavy duties.

Sitting now in bed wearing fleece and scarf round my neck-the heating has packed on Tuesday.I refuse to leave the bed until DP fixes that( 13 degrees in the house)when he's back today(working away during a week).Going for a snoooze as feeling a bit tired, don't know why...

Hope everybody will have a nice and uneventful weekend.

zzzzzzz...

LAF77 · 28/10/2011 13:30

Good to hear from you limeflower so sorry you have been struggling with illness. You've had a really rough time of late. I think some people do have ESP when it comes to pregnancies. knitters DS and your coworker seem to have guessed it! (btw pirate is a great middle name!) It is awful to have your hand forced about declaring a pg before you are ready. It sounds like you have a good excuse about recovery though.

I bought maternity jeans at 11 weeks. I could still squeeze into some trousers and shorts, but it was far more comfortable to do away with the button, Plus I'd end up mooning people!

I'm feeling quite rubbish today. There was a sickness outbreak at work yesterday, so I went home, thinking I'd avoided it, but at 2AM it caught me. Haven't really been out of bed today, half heartedly trying to deal with work mail. DH has told me off for starving the baby cos I haven't eaten lunch. He is on his way home. Sometimes it is a struggle to be on my own most of the time. I've been dopplering away too, trying to make sure baby was OK this morning.

Hope all is well lady

digi ,Lady whoop whoop on low Downs-it is a relief isn't it?When I spoke to the mw she asked me whether I wanted to have combined bloods and nuchal scan.I said yes,of course as I'm over 35 but I thought once you hit this "magic" number they do it without asking you
zam and bump so sorry for your sad news.Hope that both of you have good support in RL.A big (hug) to both of you.
Knitter there are 2 flu jabs-one of them was developed for people with egg alergy and IS NOT based on egg white.Ask your GP.Welcome to the Fartland

sharon just grit your teeth about the neighbour but I know how you feel.Reminds me of my FIL who is boasting about his granchildren forgetting that we lost one.Very painful and annoying but probably just his ignorance.
KatAndKitthat's why I probably won't get the doppler-it would drive me mental.
Lady, hope this spotting is going away.

Hello to all newbies:) Welcome to freak out room and make yourself comfy :)

Had another horrible day re throat and the slimy stuff. Now I'm wondering whether is it not something more serious like the smoking legacy (stopped puffing in July).Where's this haddock...

LimeFlower · 29/10/2011 14:22

LAF hope you'll feel better soon-have a rest, even an hour of lying down is good.

DP was back home yesterday, showed him the scan appointment letter,he started reading, blah blah blah "...we perform the scan to find out how many babies are there..." DP in shock "so there might be more than one???"I said (nearly peeing myself) "well dear, depends on how good was your shot" Grin

Boiler still knackered but fire's going so lovely and warm.

LimeFlower · 29/10/2011 15:56

Just had a look at the stats-looks like there's a few of us due in May.I follow the May thread on antenatal but didn't have the courage to join in.Considering taking a dive after my scan if everything's fine and introduce myself.Has any of you going to join?I Think that I saw Lady and BlueCrane over there.

DiffedAgainDachs · 29/10/2011 17:05

ladybee Yay for low risk! :) Glad you had a good scan.

LAF Thanks for thinking of me! I am 14 weeks on Monday. I had my nuchal scan about a week ago and am as low risk as it's possible to be for Down's given my age, so first hurdle overcome. :) The baby was not in a good position for some of the readings they needed, so the sonographer poked it a few times with the wand thing and it started moving. A lot. And refused to stay still after that!

I'm having a cervical stitch on Tuesday to try to prevent what happened with the twins from happening again, so am a little nervous but am hoping it all goes smoothly. I thought we wouldn't be buying anything for the baby until we were much further along as I'm still terrified of something going wrong and won't relax at all until this one is in my arms, but I was in town earlier and Mamas and Papas had a sale on, with some v cute clothes in, so I bought a cute little sleepsuit for the baby. I think I'm beginning to feel excited, which I wasn't sure would kick in at any point because I'm so worried, but definitely think it might be starting to happen now. Still v nervous and will be until I've come safely through the operation, as it can cause premature contractions so it could make everything go wrong, but I trust my doctor so I'm hoping it's all fine.

Sorry I'm still not around much - hope it's going well for all of you - I have everything crossed for you all.

bump you're probably not lurking at the moment, but if you are and you want to pm me I understand what you're going through and am here if you need me xxx

Biscuitsandtea · 29/10/2011 17:50

Dachs lovely to hear from you. Had been wondering if you were ok Smile

Good luck with the cervical stitch - do try and let us know how you get on if you get a chance. Will be keeping everything crossed for you.

Also great news on your downs risk score.

Good luck xx

KnitterNotTwitter · 29/10/2011 20:49

Dachs really good luck with the stitch - will have fingers crossed for you

LimeFlower I'm probably not going to join a normal thread - mostly because they can be a bit time consuming and they don't get pg after loss in my experience. I'll probably shuffle up to the Grads thread after the 23 week scan if you lot are bored of me by then :-)

Morning ladies Smile

Just popping in to say hello and wish dachs lots of luck for tues. Hope it all goes well.

We had a good early scan on thurs, heartbeat seen and bang on for dates but still think I'd like another between now and 12 weeks. Going to have to tell scary psycho boss when I go back to work tomorrow

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday.

Twittwooo · 30/10/2011 09:18

Good morning everyone,

Just quietly popping my head through the door again - some of you might remember me being here in the summer after having two consecutive pregnancies that both ended in miscarriage.

I'm not completely sure I'm ready to be here again but I've bitten the bullet and here I am! I'm now just over 9 weeks along with pregnancy number 3 and things are feeling much better than before. To get to this stage feels good and I had a scan at 8 +4 showing that everything was as it should be, so my fingers are firmly crossed and I'm feeling as positive as I can. My next scan is in 4 weeks, I think it's going to be a long wait!

I recognise some of you from being here before and it's great to hear about how you're all getting on. Good luck to everyone.

xx

Biscuitsandtea · 30/10/2011 09:22

Congratulations Twitwoo - sounds like things are going well so far this time. That 8-12 week wait is a very long time isn't it! But we're here for hand holding if you need it Smile xx
