Freak Out Room For Those Newly Diffed Up After MC Part IX

LAF77 · 27/09/2011 08:52

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Hi Peeps,

can I join you? I got a bfp just over a week ago and am absolutely BRICKING it. I must have become the biggest obsessive knicker checker ever since! I had a m/c back in May at 7 weeks (baby had stopped developing at 5/6 weeks) and it took 6 weeks to get a bfn afterwards and then a further 2 weeks to get AF. I have one DS who will be 2 at Christmas (m/c baby would also have been due at Christmas). I'm 40 next year so aware that time is no longer on my side :(

I have spent the last week in a state of mild panic that the same thing will happen again. First time round I didn't obsess over every symptom like I am now but the m/c has taken away the ability to relax about it. I'm only 5 weeks and don't really have any symptoms to report (cue, more obsessing!)

Does anybody know when the best time to get a scan is? Would it be 8 weeks or is it worth having one sooner?

I was having acupuncture when TTC and am dithering over whether or not to carry on in 1st Tri and was also taking quite a concoction of vitamins so unsure about whether or not to carry on with those too (pregnancy multi vits, plus extra vitamin D3 and 50mg of B6 as my progesterone levels were always sub-30, the month I started taking B6 I got my bfp so it might be a co-incidence!).

Sorry for the waffle! Am looking forward to freaking out with like minded people! I can only bend DP's ear so much :)

Have already ordered a twin pack of CB tests to make sure my pregnancy weeks increase!

Pie x

KatAndKit · 30/10/2011 14:02

Hi piemistress nice to see you on here. 8-9 weeks is the best time to have a scan. Before that you are still in the danger zone, and although seeing a heartbeat is good at any time, a scan at 6-7 weeks might not reassure you all that much. If you get a good scan at 9 weeks your chance of m/c goes right down.

Biscuitsandtea · 30/10/2011 15:42

Hi Piemistress - and congrats on your bfp Smile

You'll find much sympathy here for your obsessive knicker checking!!

8 weeks sounds like a good time to aim for a scan - as Kat says the chances of a mc drop dramatically after seeing a heartbeat at 8-9 weeks.

I don't know much about acupuncture sorry Sad Or vits.

Be careful with the CBDs - don't get too hung up on the week indicators. I say this as someone who ordered 6 a couple of CBDs when I got my bfp Blush. I was firstly surprised that they only go up to 3+ weeks (I bought them off amazon and never read the packaging, and such technology didn't exist when I had ds). But they aren't as clever as you'd think and you could find it scary if the weeks on those don't increase as you'd expect. So by the time I got my CBDs delivered I think it showed 3+ weeks and there was nowhere to go from there! But I think even if you got it and it showed 1-2 weeks you might not find that it went up nice and neatly to 2-3 and 3+ just when you'd expect. I think they're a useful indication that you are pg (nothing like seeing it in words eh?) and roughly how far, but don't rely too much on them.

I still have 4 CBDs on my dressing table hat I never used!

Anyway, hope everything else is going ok xx

Twittwooo · 30/10/2011 17:10

Thanks biscuits, notnow and Lime! It will be a long wait until my next scan, but I am feeling a lot better about things this time around. I've had a very unproductive day so far due to headaches, nausea and sickness but if it wasn't for that I would be worried so really, I'm grateful!

Piemistress - I would echo what the others have said about waiting until 8 weeks. I was lucky enough to get an early scan on the NHS this time and in my area they don't do early scans until 8 weeks. I was 8+4 when I had mine and I could see a clear, well, blob (!) with yolk sac and heartbeat. It was reassuring, although I'm still slightly anxious, but I think had it been earlier it might not have reassured me quite so much. I know this isn't true for everyone, but the midwife told me that often problems will occur before 8 weeks so seeing a heartbeat at 8 weeks plus does reduce your chances of miscarrying somewhat.

I hope everyone else is having a lovely day. It's nice to be back on this thread :)

LadyMaybe · 31/10/2011 09:19

Morning!
Sorry to leave you hanging after mentioning the spotting - but there was nothing more so I'm just still just assuming it was the haematoma I was warned about it and that things are fine. Got appt at the High Risk Pg clinic tomorrow so will see whether they are able to Dopple me, with a bit of luck a HB will give me the reassurance.

With a private doppler, do you think it matters if your placenta is anterior? I was told that mine was so was wondering whether it was more likely that I would find it hard to get a HB and thus freak myself out more?

We told DS. He seems completely unmoved by the whole thing. A bit of a shy smile when I told him he would hopefully be a big brother 'like Charlie' from Charlie and Lola, but nothing more. I guess he's processing it and if there are any questions they'll come up later, especially when I'm bigger and movements can be felt.

Diffed hello! so lovely to see you pop in, and I hope we get to see a bit more of you later on. I can appreciate, even though I can't begin to imagine what you're going through, that this is a difficult time, so just pleased that it seems to be going ok at the moment. Best of luck for the stitch procedure.

Kat I only saw a haematology specialist nurse when I first started on Clexane, but I would think it's good practice to be seen by a consultant. I forget which clotting factor you've got, but I guess they'll be able to discuss it in the broader context of your overall health apart from pregnancy/miscarriage. Are you going to be taking it for the duration and post-partum? I thought I'd be stopping at about 34 weeks, but I think it's standard here to just stay on it right to the end and probably afterwards too for a while.

Knitter - I will not be relaying the 'Pirate' middle name to my DH. Grin I narrowly avoided a pirate-theme wedding, I think the temptation would be too much for my poor DH.

LimeFlower you're doing great! I think congestion and increased mucous can affect some women in pregnancy " rhinitis of pregnancy". Do you have other symptoms of colds? Yup, I post every so often on the May thread. I decided to do it as part of my optimistic 'this pregnancy will work and I will damn well enjoy it' headspace, and also, there seem to be a higher proportion of women who have experienced MC on that list, I've been very impressed with how many people have been open about their experiences and fears. Jump in. It's not as fast as some I've seen.

LAF hope you're starting to feel better after the sickness episode - horrible.

Mouse do you have to say something to your boss? Can't you leave it? Yay for good scan!!!

Hello Twittwoo nice to have you on this thread as well, grab a nice comfy cushion or beanbag and breeathe.

welcome to PieMistress congratulations on the BFP!! it's the first step in what can be a long and twisty journey, but we'll be here to keep pushing you forward and handing out chocolate incentives to keep going You're taking the same vitamin supplement combo that I was when I conceived - think I had a few more in there too. I kept going with the B6 until around 10 weeks, around then the placenta should be up and going producing the progesterone, whereas it's the corpus luteum beforehand. Vitamin D I stopped when it started being more summery (I'm in the southern hemisphere), but I would think you could continue that throughout - talk to your GP or consultant about it. I agree with everyone else re: scans and CB warnings Smile

digitalgirl · 31/10/2011 11:51

Have been lurking but popping in to get this back onto Threads I'm On.

piemistress welcome!

Hello from the common room twittwoo

lady glad to hear spotting has stopped, and I do hope you get a bit of doppler action at your appt.

I'm 16 weeks today (list has me a couple of days ahead) and hoping to feel a few more flutters, but has been a bit quiet of late - maybe because I've been a bit busy. Had a lovely day in the woods with DS and friends on Friday. Baby shower on Saturday where I came out to a few more friends. Halloween party yesterday. Getting the odd mild BH - which I remember getting from really early on with DS (9 weeks!) and wondering if they might get stronger after today as I took my last progesterone supplement last night.

Seeing my private consultant next Monday - and a scan, looking forward to it this time!

shellshock7 · 31/10/2011 12:29

Hi dachs great news, glad you are getting excited and hope all goes well with the stitch

Good to see you back twittwoo Smile 9 weeks already is amazing....fingers crossed for you

Hi to everyone else Smile

litlady · 31/10/2011 12:30

Hello
So sad to hear about Bump. There are no words at all to make it better but hope the collective thoughts and love on the thread make their way to you.
Good news about your spotting Lady and welcome also piemistress.
I need a jolly good haddocking. Have second scan on Wednesday which annoyingly will only make me about 7.5 weeks not 8. HAve literally been driving myself mad, I feel wretched, queasy, and my boobs actually made me do a double take when I caught them in a reflection this morning. HUGE.How marvellous. But I've been driving myself mad about recalling EXACTLY what was said at the last scan. I can't remember if she saw a yolk or not, there was a sac and also some definite fluttering but am sure she said she couldn't see anything else. Probs cos it was too early but I am beside myself. My lovely OH thinks she did say there was a yolk but he also looked petrified and baffled and slightly queasyu about the notion of yolk at all.....
Lxxxxx

KatAndKit · 31/10/2011 12:41

Not seeing a yolk sac would be a major big deal and I think you would have been told about it. no yolk = no baby so if you have seen the embryo there must have been one. Try not to worry!

ladybaby pirate-themed wedding Grin

All fine here. I'm talking myself into a cheeky scan when I go for midwives booking in/bloods on Thursday... I have to drop DS at school for 9 and then my midwife appointment isn't until 10.45... what else am I going to do with that time if it's not head to the EPU and ask for a reassurance scan....?

KatAndKit · 31/10/2011 17:14

Oooh a busy week over in Grads by the looks of it! Looking forward to hearing news of more babies. It is nice to see that babies do actually happen at the end of all this I think!

LimeFlower · 31/10/2011 19:24

Hello everybody:)
Lady thanks for your kind words,I tried to think the same optimistic way about this pregnancy, sometimes I manage, sometimes I don't.I got to 10 weeks+ but still wondering whether everything's fine or not.No way of knowing is the worst. This time in a week I'll know for definite-it will be like hearing the sentence.Scared like hell with mentalling going on and off.
Glad that your spotting stopped, whatever it was nobody needs such an "entertainment" from mother nature.

PieMistress, hello and welcome.Up to you but personally I wouldn't waste the money on any more tests says the one that used just 4 of them .As for the supplements you're taking I'd consult either GP or midwife-I was told to not take anything except folic acid and once I get to 12 weeks to replace it with pregnacare. The reason for that is that I'm in Scotland where there's not enough sunshine to generate vit D in my body.

digi congrats on 16 weeks:)

Knitter lucky you, wish I had a scan now:(

Give me some haddock,I'm back to work tomorrow, one more week before I tell my boss(waiting till the scan) and properly freaking out before scan next Monday.Boobs sore on and off, bulge I noticed is gone(wind?) still retching but less often and a bit queasy.Feeling lazy like hell.

DP went yesterday to do a small job in the village, brought some news about the other lady in the village expecting(she's the hot topic of the village gossip now). How's that that being now pregnant myself I'm still feeling such a sting of jealousy hearing such news?

Anyway, off to the May thread to introduce myself.Have a nice evening:)

hairylights · 31/10/2011 19:42

Hi - not sure how I've gained two weeks ... I'm 28 plus 5 today.

pie I waited til 8 weeks this time as I wanted to be sure and avoid the "is it/isn't it ok" stuff at 6 or 7.

hairylights · 31/10/2011 19:47

Oh and dachs all the best with the procedure.

PieMistress · 31/10/2011 20:48

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I am getting so cross with my obsessive knicker/loo paper checking and worrying that every twinge, cramp or ache is an imminent miscarriage, sigh! I know you are all right there with me though on the freaking out!

Ironically we had had an appt at the fertility clinic the fortnight prior to getting my bfp and DP had to produce a sperm sample which they now want to 'discuss the results of' and won't give them over the phone?! I'm wondering if that's normal?

I think I will aim for 8 weeks, if I make it that far I know the midwives at the Health Centre like you to 'book in' at 6 weeks but I simply can't do that, it's too soon! We do have an EPU here and I was able to self refer for the m/c but I don't know if I can self request a scan after the m/c.

hairy congrats on making it to 28+5 (!) :) :)

lime i'm also in Scotland and definitely don't get the 20mins of sunshine a day that I should be so am taking 35mg of vitamin D3 a day at the mo. I never know if it's good to take vitamins not not - with DS I only took folic acid till 12 weeks then nothing else but this time i'm taking a bit extra. Everytime I mention supplements to the GP/midwife they say just folic acid is fine but I think I need a bit more help now i'm a bit older and I'm paranoid because when I got my bfp I stopped the vitamins totally and then m/c (unrelated I know but just adds to the anxiousness this time around!)

knitter that's great you can pop in for a reassurance scan!

litlady I know what you mean about forgetting everything they say when having a scan! I sometimes think 'oh I wish I'd taken one of those dictaphones in so i didn't get anything muddled up!

digi congrats on 16 weeks! I think that will be a great milestone! How old is your DS?

lady thanks for the advice re: supplements. I was taking an extra 500mg of vitamin C too but stopped that last week as I was only taking to to try and boost my progesterone in addition to the B6. So, 50mg B6, 35mg D3 and will finish off my zita 'horrifically expensive' west fertility vits before moving onto pregnacare. Will probably stick with those as you suggested till 10 weeks or so as i'm very paranoid about my progesterone levels! I might ask my GP if I can get a blood test soon to see how they are comparing to what they should be.

kat, twit, biscuits when I had the scan to confirm the m/c they said they weren't sure if it was 5/6 weeks so i'll wait until 8 weeks when I should see a hearbeat, thanks for the advice. It will be a long 3 weeks!!

I just wish I didn't feel so pessimistic! I'm also still taking my temp every morning to make sure it's nice and high. Not got a scooby why because when I m/c it was high too! I normally get very stressed about work though but now I am not taking any crap because I need to stay calm! :) :)

Have a nice evening everyone. Just having dinner and catching up on all the trash telly I missed when on hols last week! Bliss!

Hi to everybody!

LAF77 · 31/10/2011 21:54

Glad to hear from you Dachs I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Please let us know how you get on. My cousin's wife had the stich done after RMC and she has 2 children now.

I'm thrilled for your news twitwoo I had been thinking about you too and was going to drop you a line and here you are! It is so hard waiting between scans, but it is great news that you've made it to 8+4 and things look good.

Lovely for you to drop in too mousebacon lit lady and pie mistress feel free to mental away with us. I second biscuits with caution over CBD. Once you have the positive test, there is no point in taking more. Save your pennies for a private scan. milkyways who is on the grads thread was diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency and since taking the supplements is doing well in her pg. Perhaps it is worth asking her about the tests that she had to confirm the deficiency.

Glad that the bleeding stopped lady and hope you get to hear the heartbeat tomorrow. I can imagine that the position of the placenta would make a difference in the early time of 11-12 weeks, but once you get to a certain stage in the pregnancy, you should be able to hear regardless.

Nice to hear from you hairy

Thanks for updating the list knitter tomorrow I'll be 19+6, and need to keep pinching myself that I'm still pg!

digitalgirl · 01/11/2011 11:38

Very best of luck today dachs hope it all goes smoothly.

digitalgirl · 01/11/2011 11:44

piemistress DS is 3 going on 14. Oh and STOP with the temp taking. It's completely redundant now you're pg. Your temperatures are going to be all over the place because your hormones are going to be fluctuating and your sleep will be affected by it. I understand your need to keep taking it as I was a charter too, but I was advised to stop as soon as I got a bfp because after that temps are unreliable. Smile

(hope that wasn't too harsh a telling off!)

googietheegg · 01/11/2011 15:16

Good luck today dachs

Hello there pie - nice to see you!

How's everyone feeling today? Still knicker checking, worrying about every fart and generally feeling a bit mental? Mee too!!

I have my 12 week scan on Thursday so I am trying to be positive and think all will be well. I'm still pretty exhausted most of the time and look huge after I've eaten, so am out of my normal jeans already as they're just too uncomfortable, but I'm not big enough for maternity stuff so am wearing leggings and dresses.

PieMistress · 01/11/2011 17:52

digi ha, no offence taken! I know I must stop, especially as the irritating beep is, well irritating!

Thanks for the welcome googie, good luck with the scan on Thursday :)

Hope the stitch went smoothly today dachs.

PieMistress · 01/11/2011 19:48

PS - Did anybody have acupuncture when TTC? Did you stop or carry on when you got your BFP? I have been going fortnightly and it's been brilliant in sorting out my cycles post m/c and brought my ovulation forward. I'm not sure now if I should carry on as have read conflicting advice about doing it in 1st tri? Just wondering if anybody has any words of wisdom :)
