This is a thread for those of us on the bereaved mother's thread who want a place to moan about the perils of ttc without upsetting anyone over there. We've gone through at least one pregnancy, and we know what it is to hold a baby whose eyes will never open, or to have lost a baby after a few days, weeks or years. We know the fear, but we're going to go ahead and do it anyway. And then do it again, especially in the middle of the month!

Newcomers will be welcomed with all the hand-holding and wisdom we can summon up - and that's a lot! Come in and join us: the door is always open.

too I think it depends on the doppler. The Angelsounds ones are a bit later I think. I have a Sonoline (about £60) that claims to pick up the hb from about 11/12 weeks, but as I didn't buy it until 16 and then was too scared to use it for a week or two, I can't confirm that it does that.
The baby's hb should be between 120 and 180 bpm I think (my doppler displays the rate) and yours should be more like 60-90. Find your own pulse first with the old fingers on wrist technique and then you can check that what the doppler picks up is much faster. The placenta whooshes in time with your heartrate, and the cord pulses in time with the baby. The cord makes a one beat noise, the baby sounds like a galloping horse (a double beat). Hope that helps!

Good luck green, I hope this is your month.

As for me it's day 3 in the early labour Spilt house. Been up every 15 mins all night huffing and puffing, and actually feeling surprisingly ok on it! Please come out little one!

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 21/08/2011 08:56

Come on baby Spilt! You can do it! Glad you're feeling ok, Spilt - it must be the excitement! Don't forget to drink as much water as you can manage and eat something to keep your strength up. How many weeks are you now?

Thanks for the advice re dopplers - will come in v handy once I have persuaded DH that we need one! Still a bit early days, though, so it won't be yet.

I am up ridiculously early and really restless. This is not at all like me!

spilttheteaagain · 21/08/2011 09:02

I'm bang on 40 weeks today by my dates, due yesterday according to the hospital. Eating loads Smile

shakeyjake · 21/08/2011 09:57

hi girls sorry not been near a pc for so long and my phone plays up when trying to post.

split hope you have that baby soon, must be exhausting all those contractions.

i had my scan last thurs and shows 1 very wiggly baby with a great heartbeat. i am now exactly 13 weeks. my husbands friend is giving us a doppler so am hoping that will help with my fears.

ciwi · 21/08/2011 10:49

Morning everyone, I heard the hb with my angel sounds doppler but I did have practice using it last time so it would probably be more difficult if you hadn't used it before to find it that early and I am not expecting to hear it every time I listen until at least 12 weeks. You can tell it's not yours as it is much faster (around twice as fast as your own hb)
too I find the time is dragging also, though the last couple of weeks have moved a little bit faster.
spilt 40 weeks is long enough, hope your little one hurries up!
Hi shakey 13 weeks! excellent, I am counting the days till my 12 week scan (will be 10 weeks tommorrow).

janedoe25 · 21/08/2011 14:42

Hi girls,
spilt hope things heat up soon.

Has anyone used the clearblue digi ov sticks? I have bought a load of them from ebay. Do they make it easier to conceive?

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 21/08/2011 14:44

I know they work as pregnancy tests...Grin

razzdazz · 21/08/2011 15:52

Hello ladies, hope you are all enjoying the sunshine in various parts of the country Smile
too and ciwi I feel like every day is only passing an hour Confused and it is painful!!!
Im obsessing at the moment about my lack of pregnancy symptoms Sad. I am very early still, only 5+3, probably feels like forever as I tested positive 3 days before AF was due. I do have dreadful wind Blush and constipation which I always get but my boobs are not really that tender yet. I have felt dizzy and light headed a few times each day which is a new experience, kind of trance like. Oh, I dont no, maybe if I hadnt had mc's and lost Thomas I wouldnt be such a symptom freak. If this is how I am now what will I be like later on Sad. Sorry to moan so much.........
Really hope we hear some lovely babynews from split soon.
Take care all.

greenzebra · 21/08/2011 16:36

come on baby spilt!!! Are you looking out for later labour signs yet spilt When I had Ophelia my body purged itself, I was sick also. And I generally felt ill all day, this is supposed to be a really good sign that things are on the move. Is it just braxton hicks you are having, (just the tightenings) or are you having pain also?

Ive just come back from a day at the beach with the wee brother inlaws (8 and 15) and DH (29) who spent most of the time in the water with their clothes on as it wasnt that warm down there. My dh's toes went blue. boys!

jane I use the one step ones off of amazon as they are cheap and you get aload of them. I tried the ovulation kits from boots first but they never seam to show that Im ovulating. These work great for me. Ov tests do make it easier to conceive, we found out that we were swi at the wrong time, I ov on the 16th day so a little more that the average 14. We were trying for 18 months before I fell pg with Ophelia and then second month of using ov sticks and first month of using the first step ones I conceived. good luck.

razz well youve got some symptoms so Im sure its fine, boobs sometimes never hurt or do at a later stage, my BBF hers never hurt her or became tender.

shakey thats great news.

too ben and jerrys always helps especially the phish food frozen yogurt flavour. yum yum.

spilttheteaagain · 21/08/2011 17:03

green yes keeping an eye out for the other sorts of signs too. I had a show on Friday evening which was somewhere between repulsive and exciting! Bowels are, ahem, loose. And def past the BH stage. They last for a minute and some of them have been right b*stards. Down to more like every 10 mins now, which whilst certainly not established labour, is at least heading in the right direction.

razz the symptom spotting is hard, but remember that for loads of people there aren't much in the way of symptoms before 6/7 weeks. Your hormones are building up quite fast though so hopefully you'll have your head down that loo soon!

jane I would agree with green about the ov sticks. I found that from a combination of those and temperature charting I ovulate 10 days before my period shows up, and my cycle is only about 23 days long. The internet cheapies worked fine for me too, and at about £5 for 30 ish are definitely worth a try.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 21/08/2011 18:38

Spilt, have you tried walking about to bring them on? Hope they get a move on! Did you go to the MW for a check-up? Maybe you could get a sweep and that might speed things along. FX for you!

Razz, I too have awful wind Blush. Apart from being a bit queasy and feeling hungover frequently (the injustice!), there hasn't been much else. My boobs have ached occasionally, but not continually. Oh, and I'm a bit spotty, which is very annoying as I usually get one spot a month shortly before AF and the rest of the time my skin is relatively okay. I'm also really thirsty but drinking large quantities makes me feel sick, helpfully.

Shakey, great news re scan! Also, hurray for being 13 weeks (Envy).

Green, a day at the beach sounds like fun even if it was chilly!

AngelGeorgie · 21/08/2011 18:45

Jane I used the clear blue smiley face ovulation tests. They are expensive ( but in the grand scheme of things I didn t mind) and I liked how easy they were to use. I think about £20 for 5-7 tests. I got use to when to start testing I m lucky ad have very regular cycles of 26-28 days so normally started testing on cd 11 and ovulated between cd 12-15 . Good luck.
Razz I remember those early days really dragging!!! Like u I found out this time at cd 19 , about 8 days before my AF was due and to get to 7-8 weeks seemed to take forever!!!
Shakey huge congrats x
Spilt can t believe you re at this stage doesn t seem 2 minutes since you told us you were pregnant . ( though, probably feels like a million years to you!!). Good luck I m so excited for you. Xxx
Hi all xxx
Back to work tomorrow after a blissful week of AL. Xxx

spilttheteaagain · 21/08/2011 21:50

Hurrah! Just been in to get checked by a MW to see if I am getting anywhere and am 2-3cm so feeling quite encouraged. She's well engaged and hb still nice and happy. Things picking up a bit more now, 5-6 mins. I declined a sweep for now.

Bluetinkerbell · 21/08/2011 21:55

hurrah! keep us up to date! Wink feel all excited now :)

AngelGeorgie · 22/08/2011 07:08

Just checking in before work !!! Come on SpiltWink
one of my friends is in hospital being induced today come on baby Adien!!!
I return to work today after a week of AL. Quite glad actually as I ve felt time is standing still and worrying +++ so at least being back at work gives me another focus other than being pg. Off for repeat scan and consultant review this PM. Then after that only 2 scans and 8 weeks to go!!!!
Hi all hope all are well? Xxxx

razzdazz · 22/08/2011 09:17

Morning all Smile
Looks like baby split could be well on the way, it is just soooo exciting, thoughts are with you split Im sure I am speaking for everyone when I say I cant wait to hear!!!
too I am also spotty, do you actually get the pain with the trapped wind??
Glad you had a nice day at the beach green and thanks for the reassurance Grin
jane I was told not to use ov sticks as I have pcos and they would give me false positives. My friend used tesco own and got a BFP the 1st month after trying for several!!!! Hope that happens for you too Wink
Good luck this afternoon angel not long to go now Grin

Bluetinkerbell · 22/08/2011 09:22

once my parents have left the house I will get out my ov sticks... :) I'm quite sure I have a long cycle and should be ov'ing soon...

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 22/08/2011 17:00

Go Spilt, go! And Angel's friend too.

Good luck with your scan and consultant review, Angel. Hope all is well with GILS.

Razz, I sometimes get pain with the wind, yes. Newest symptom: I can hear/feel/sense my pelvis grinding when I walk! It is freaking me out. I had SPD towards the end of my pregnancy before, and it was quite significantly worse immediately after giving birth and the symptoms didn't go away for a couple of months. Now I'm getting this grinding, although it doesn't hurt, and I'm scared it will develop into SPD much earlier than the last time. Perhaps I should give up on high heels for the duration. Sad

Good luck with the ov sticks, Blue and Jane!

Bluetinkerbell · 22/08/2011 17:15

tried my first ov stick earlier, was very faint line, so i guess that means either ov is finished already or hasn't started yet... ah well at least if I get a period at the end it means I can know how long my cycle will be approximately to get it right next month :)

ciwi · 22/08/2011 17:47

Hi everyone,
Need some reassurance please. I tried to hear the hb again today but couldn't, I think I can hear some moving sounds and a couple of times i thought I heard it but then heard a moving sound and couldnt hear it again. I know I am only 10 weeks and you are not meant to even start using it till 12 weeks but I am really worrying that something is wrong. I still have symptoms and if it wasn't for trying to hear the hb I would be none the wiser. Am I being stupid for worrying?

razzdazz · 22/08/2011 18:02

ciwi I am sure it is nothing to worry about. Baby is so very small still at 10 weeks floating around the cavity that is your womb Wink and hiding in various corners so it would be totally normal I would imagine not to hear the hb. Infact, I would say you were very lucky to hear it when you last used the monitor. You still feel pregnant and as you have said would think nothing of it if you hadnt tried again. Im going to say please stop fretting, but I myself no how hard that can be. My best advice would be, that if you do find it again (I no you will keep trying) smile, then pack it away until after 12 weeks Smile

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 22/08/2011 18:43

It's okay, Ciwi. The baby is just so small right now that it is hiding somewhere tucked away from the doppler. When is your next scan? Perhaps you could call the EPU and see if they would do you a scan tomorrow for reassurance? Mine said to call them any time if I was scared and they would sort me out. Just try to stay calm and think - no bleeding, no cramping, symptoms still there. The baby will be fine!

Spilt, any news? Hoping silence means that contractions have ramped it up and you are currently meeting BabySpilt!

CheeseandGherkins · 22/08/2011 18:44

Had a lovely day today. We went to Woburn safari park with my parents and had a really wonderful day. We both had monkeys on our cars! It was lovely but tiring. Knackered now. Really enjoyed it though and kept my mind occupied.

ciwi I'm sure everything is fine, sometimes it can take a while to find. I've not tried again yet, been feeling ok, but sure I will soon again. I always find it lower down that where I expect. (hugs)

hope all are well xx

ciwi · 22/08/2011 19:34

Hi Girls, sorry about the flip out Blush I know I shouldn't have tried it until 12 weeks but am so bloody stressed and terrified that I will lose this baby too. I have just tried again and I am pretty sure I heard it but it sounded further away than the other day so I think the little bub is just playing hide and seek. On razz's advice I am going to put it away now for a bit, I think you are right, I was just lucky to hear it the other day.
too I had a scan less than a week ago and my next one is a week on Wed so I think I really need to get a grip and just wait for the next scan. I can't be scanned every day, unfortunatley.
cheese glad you had a good day today
blue maybe you are about to ov? I find the sticks get gradually darker for me when leading up to ov. I like the tesco's own ov sticks, they are more sensitive than the ic's and I get some warning of a pos opk with them whereas the ic's are either bright white or pos

AngelGeorgie · 22/08/2011 19:56

Ciwi please don t worry; the midwives don t even attempt to listen to the heartbeat to 16 weeks as it's so unpredictable. With GILS I find it harder to find the heartbeat than I did with Georgie as I slightly heavier than I was with Georgie and my placenta is anterior. X
Razz thanks x
My friend is not dilating !!! She must be next to Spilt !!!! shes had 2 pessaries and still only at 3cms!!! They re checking her at 2 pm tomorrow.
Scan fine GILS a big baby but fine. I m slightly anaemic so started on iron tablets. Only 2 scans left before the section.my consultant is very happy with the progress. Very tired as left work at 3.30 appt was at 4.20 pm but didn t get in to see consultant to 5.40 pm!!!!
