Freak Out Room For Those Newly Updiffed After M/C Part VII

Blackkat · 05/06/2011 14:30

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

lara welcome home! So glad you had a fab holiday. Loved the falling coconut thing - at least that's one less thing we have to mental about in this country! Hope you enjoy the over 55's exercise class! Hmm

lara and collie I really love my Bugaboo Cameleon, it is great if you plan to do lots of walking to shops, park etc as the suspension is brilliant and it is so easy to push (even one-handed so can carry coffee etc in other hand). The bassinet bit is really spacious and when they move into the pushchair attachment they are nice and high up to see out. The back rest is much more upright than loads of other pushchairs so they can't slump down. It is also great for sleeping as seat lies horizontal, and can also be fitted on forward or back facing.... Having said that I would not recommend if you want to fold it up frequently - it is a complete nightmare. It also takes up the whole boot of the car if you want to transport it. Ours stays up in the kitchen the whole time (and only just squeezes through the door!) so if you don't want it sitting around the house I would get a more easily foldable one.... It is also ridiculously expensive, but we got ours second hand for a bargain - worth looking on ebay maybe...?
On the having a baby stopping you doing things - don't worry - it will, but not for long. After a few months you will be back to going out for lunch (baby sleeps), long walks (put in sling), romantic dinners (babysitter) etc. It gets a bit trickier to do all those things when they are toddlers, but DS is now 3 and we had a lovely 4 hour pub lunch with friends yesterday and he just ran around the garden... Don't panic, it's totally normal to feel all those things so all I can say is enjoy your lie-ins while you can!! :)

hairylights, milkyways and MrsS brilliant news about your scans :o

harassed your weekend sounded lovely - really fancy a weekend away by the sea now!

willitbe well done for hanging in there and resting lots. Keep going with the chocolate Wink. There are loads of reasons why this weird bleeding could be happening so don't give yourself a hard time for trying to be positive.x

mamarara · 04/07/2011 22:38

BRILLIANT scan news milky hairy and mrss! Am so pleased for you.

willitbe really hope you're ok and bleeding stops.

And I second lady's comments about the chameleon. We got ours second hand for a bargain, was as good as new and has been brilliant. I did inherit a small quinny fold up which I use more now if I am just nipping out quickly (dd is 18 months). But always use the chameleon as first choice.

Hope the rest of you ladies are ok.

I have first scan tomorrow and am bricking it. It's not til 7pm - so will be tearing my hair out and probably a big teary mess by then! Hope the sonographer is nice and well trained in mentalling.

lily06 · 05/07/2011 08:08

Mamarara good luck today with the scan, will check back late tonight to see how you got on. Just realised we're exactly the same dates and my scan is today too, at 2.30.

CollieandPup · 05/07/2011 08:47

What a great day yesterday was for good scan news!!!! mrsS and milky spool pleased for you! AND HAIRY so glad you had the scan and SUPER news it went well. You deserve this very much!

mamara and lily good luck today. what a late scan mamara hope you had distractions in the day to keep your mind off it!!

Had lovely day off yesterday sitting in the sun with a friend and her beautiful 5 month old girl! Dentist today for a 'pregnancy' check up. Then back to work-boo!!

20wk scan tomorrow!!!! Let the metalling begin!!!!

Ps. Taking bra back weds after scan (assuming it's not bad news)

Got to run, dentist calls!!!!

Youremindmeofthebean · 05/07/2011 08:53

Good luck today for Mamarara and lily.Smile

Hurrah hairy, that's excellent news, so very chuffed for you.

willitbe so sorry to hear that you're in a limbo, I have everything crossed for you and wish you all the best.

All's well over this end, Had a lovely weekend away, just settling back into the working week. I have a wedding evening do on Saturday that I'm feeling a little lazy about attending, but I'm sure once Saturday rocks up it'll all be fine. What the hell am I going to wear!Confused

Hello everyone, just had to write to say a big YAY for hairy and all the other scanees yesterday. Good luck to everyone with scans today.

willitbe I'm so sorry to hear you're having such a hard time. Bleeding definitely does not mean things are going wrong and hopefully everything will be just fine.

I have a friend in RL who is having heavy bleeding at 6 weeks and going in for a scan this morning. Talking to her brought back so many sad and scary memories and I'm really hoping her bean is OK.

Otherwise all well here except general low level metalling. My latest obsession is that I'm 15+2 today and don't have much of a bump. Should I be worried?

harassedandherbug · 05/07/2011 09:38

Great news on all the scans!!! Hairy so pleased for you!!

hadrian as the owner of quite a large bump at 15+5.....no, you should be relieved Wink. Everyone's different, and this is dc4 for me so everything has been stretched before .

lady & mamara what are the chameleon carrycots like? Are they nice and cosy?? A bit concerned about having a winter baby and keeping them cosy! Def thinking of getting a second hand bug...... keep watching them on ebay just to see.

willitbe how are you this morning?

One of my favourite days today as ds1 is 22 and dd is 5. I love that they share their birthday. Otherwise, not much news from me. Loving having my doppler. Even when I can't get the hb I feel bug wriggling away from my poking Grin.

Happy birthday to HarassedJunior and HarassedMiniJunior! How on earth did you succeed in giving birth on the same date twice?! Quite an achievement!

I don't think there is any logic to bump size - we're all different. I have quite a sizeable bump but reckon it's just cos my stomach muscles are in appalling nick (no previous babies for me to attribute it to!) I love having a bump though. I'm sure if I didn't have a bump I'd be equally happy knowing my body wasn't so easily betraying me!!!!!!

Wish I had a doppler but think I'd be overly obsessed with it... Think I can feel more flutterings though....

harassedandherbug · 05/07/2011 10:12

I have excellent timing Lara!! No..... ds1 was on time, and dd was 10 days late. She was actually due on 26th June! Ds1 joked at the time that it would be funny if they shared the same birthday, so I blame him personally Grin.

ladybird33 · 05/07/2011 11:51

Hi all, I have had quite a scary morning. Was wandering around the kitchen making breakfast when felt something trickling "down there" (sorry TMI) Blush. Went to the loo and lo and behold a whole load of scary red blood. Am 11+1 today and obviously expected the worst.... Went straight to EPU and was told there was a 2 and a half hour wait! Luckily I was seen after an hour or so (spent the whole time trying to blank everything out of my mind and stop ds having mega-tantrum) and was massively relieved to be told that everything was ok. Could see both beans jumping around waving arms and legs - so amazing. Could really have done without the scare though! Have also had nasty cramps all morning which haven't helped and are still freaking me out in spite of scan...

mamarara and lily hope your scans go really well today :)

harassed the chameleon carry cots are good - nice and deep and sheltered - room for lots of blankets. You can also fit a phil & teds (or equivalent) portable soft carry cot with handles inside them (not sure if you know the ones I mean), so if you are somewhere you can't leave the buggy, you just take the internal carrycot out - it also makes it super snuggly and cosy for newborns. Def go and have a look at one. Happy birthday to your dd and ds today!!

LaraandLittleBean · 05/07/2011 12:14

Ladybird - sorry to hear about your scary morning. I hope you are resting now with your feet up... Take it easy. I know lots of the ladies here have had bleeding but it's turned out to be fine.

I loved the cameleon but it just seemed so large.....

Freezingmyarseoff · 05/07/2011 13:14

Yay to Hairy on the scan, am SUPER pleased for you And to Milkyway and MrsSteph too, of course

Ladybird sorry for the scary morning but glad you were able to get a quick scan. Feet up now please.

Mamarama good luck for your scan this evening. And good luck to Lily too.

Hadrian with DD I didn't really have a bump till about 5/6 months! so try not to worry about whether you have one or not, it's different for everyone.

Hadrian happy birthday to your DC - Smile all round

Collie I had to take a bra back to bravissimo when I was pregnant with DD, for exactly the same reasons as you, they were absolutely fine with it even though it was worn. Good luck with tomorrow

Willitbe How are you today? thinking of you

Lara Grin on the over 55's gym classes. Last time I went to aqua-aerobics (closest I could get to antenatal aqua) I was the youngest by at least 25 years! it made me feel rather good actually! Also, the wobbles "about what on earth have we done?" are TOTALLY normal. I still have them now with DD! but I think it's a good thing because it means you are slowly processing it all, and I can tell you it's worth it all - even the tantrums out shopping etc. As a parent you tend to ignore it, whereas as a non-parent onlooker it seems it seems a much bigger deal than it actually is IYSWIM. -Hope I don't sound like a rubbish parent

Waves to everyone else, sorry not to namecheck everyone else, am slowing trying to catch up on everyone's news

Freezingmyarseoff · 05/07/2011 13:16

oh flipping heck, pregnancy brian working overtime - I also meant to say we had a good scan this morning. The popsicle is all fine, and wiggling around Grin, will update my stats separately.

lady your morning sounds very scary and stressful, but I'm so glad you got a scan and all was ok! Did they not say what the bleeding might have been? Perhaps placenta kicking in?

lara you asked about the bee and I forgot to reply. On paper the bee ticked all our boxes and I was very excited about going seeing it. And this point I'd ruled out the cameleon bcs of a) cost b) a few niggly things that were coming up in reviews.

BUT when we had a mess around with the bee I just really disliked it. big bonus of the bee is it's size, the fact it's do lightweight and that it folds with the seat very compact. BUT I thought it felt really quite flimsy. I also disbt like the cocoon, which is the bees equivelent to a Cary cot. But it's not completely flat for the baby to lie on, which I think is important. And I didn't think it look very secure. I eas just like a bit if a sleeping bag perched on the seat. I hot the impression that the bee is a good pushchair but not necc the best travel system especially if to be used from birth. I think tge cameleon is bulky but most travel systems are, that's the down side to them. The Quinny is actually bigger although folds more easily.

People with the cameleon- how did you find it off road i.e gravel or dirt roads? Which mag rates it poorly but patent reviews seem
mixed. Also what about folding it down? Sone parents reviews have said it's a pain and gets muddy?

Took me so long to post that I missed freezings post!!! Fab news on good scan! X

willitbe · 05/07/2011 14:17

Ladybird - horrible scare, but really pleased all is well for your still. Grin
Freezing - great news on your scan too.

Update on me, bleeding has increased (although still light red flow), pregnancy tests slightly lighter. So does not look good. Of course in my I am going to think positively until I have to face any truth attitute, I am blaming the pregnancy tests on the hook effect and reminding myself that it still could all be ok (I know I am fooling myself, but right now denial is a lovely place to be). Monday's scan is soon enough to face the truth I think. I hope you don't mind me hanging around for now. Since when I leave here I won't be back, as dh has said this is final time. No more pregnancies for me after this one. But 12 pregnancies in 3 years is more than enough for my body to deal with. Time for me to move on.

LaraandLittleBean · 05/07/2011 14:51

Willitbe - the change in colour on the pg tests mean nothing... My sonographer literally shouted at me when I told her I was testing every day.. Stop testing, relax and try to think positively. You're not "hanging around" - you belong here as much as we all do.... Lots of ladies have had bleeding scares and been fine... Please try not to stress.

As for DH's reaction, I think that's quite normal for a bloke (not trying to deliberately stereotype your DH as a typical bloke..) Us women are much better at talking things through and seeing life as different shades of grey. My experience of many men (including my DH) is that because they internalise issues more, life is much more black and white. It's how many men deal with stressful situations (and why they are sometimes better at taking the emotion out of a situation) After my last MC my DH's reaction was the same (I'm NOT saying you're having a MC BTW) but once he had gotten over his initial default reaction, he was open to trying again.

Do you have any clotting or pain?

mamarara · 05/07/2011 15:06

Hey ladies
Killing time before scan...eep.
lily didn't realise we were the same number of days - hope scan went well today!
Nice to hear about other good scans!
Re chameleon - off road v good, you can put the big wheels at the front for off road and then lock the back wheels. Means turning circle not as good as the other way round but I have used it on the beach, on very muddy footpaths and gravel etc (we live in the deepest darkest countryside) and it has been fine. Also been running with it and it was great.
Little wheels at the front mean easy town pram - small turning circle, can push with one hand etc.
Folding up - it is a bit annoying I guess that you have to take the seat off but it fits in the same space as a all in one fold up (car boot wise) and is very quick to do - has never bothered me.
Carry cot - nice deep sides and hood. Room for lots of blankets/gro bag - and feels secure. I felt very happy with little baby tucked up safely in there. The only thing I'd say is the carry cot doesn't come off (for you to pick baby up and leave pram somewhere). This never really bothered me as you can put the car seat on so I always did that if I thought I'd have to wander off with the baby.
All in all I was very impressed - it had things on that I'd never thought about and realised were very good eg seat reclines v far back, can face seat forwards or backwards, suspension is lovely.
Phew think that's it!

Also double happy birthday juniorharassed!

CollieandPup · 05/07/2011 15:18

Oh willitbe I'm sorry sweet. No wonder you are clinging on to hope if dh has said this is your last go. But 12 pregnancies is a lot for your body to go through and for you both to deal with emotionally. Are you trying for dc1? I hope very much you get the miracle you both clearly deserve. Have you thought about if you'll go down any other routes? Xx

And of course, please hang around. We all want to know how you go on. Xx

willitbe · 05/07/2011 15:20

Lara - thank you I needed a bit of a haddocking!!! I have had intermittent cramping and back pain, but not severe. I have also had tiny clots, which I find strange since I am on heperin and asprin. But still, the postive thinking will resume here in full force now! Keep praying for a miracle. Thank you Grin

Also - forgot to say happy birthday juniorharrassed duo!
