Hi Lara Yes, its true, I am really worried about abnormalities now after hearing Knitters news. I think maybe its because I have had amnio before and they gave me lots of counselling and asked me to make a decision about what I would do with different results scenarios, so I know already that if there were any kind of abnormalities I would terminate. I am 10+6 today and so only 1 day off being able to do screening tests. I really wish I was in the UK now and could just book a private appointment and get tested ASAP!

cep Hug for you. Bad feelings and worry are a symptom of having had an mc in the past. It doesnt mean you will have another one. Its just a horrible burden we all have after the experiences we have been through. I hope it doesnt last. xx

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 14/04/2011 14:47

Hmmm...it's a tricky one. I hope you manage to find somewhere that'll do all the tests. You kind of forget how comparatively easy we have it here. However I'm sure the online calculations are doable...

Not sure what to suggest if you don't trust the dr though Sad. I guess you'll have to take a bit of a leap of faith?

I can understand the need for a diagnostic test if you were to come up high risk so agree trying to find someone experienced in cvs just in case might reassure you in the sense that at least you'd know you had that option...can you ask them their mc rates for cvs? In the uk they have to give you that info if you ask. [irrelevant emoticon]

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 14/04/2011 14:48

cep ((hugs)) coming your way x

Velvetcu · 14/04/2011 15:17

I'm not having bloods done at my private nuchal scan tomorrow as far as I know. Should I be (maybe they just havent mentioned it)? I feel so sick with worry about it all. I'm going to visit my nan in Spain on Sunday and hopefully I'll just be able to relax a bit.

I'm also not sleeping very well - combo of nightmares (the bearded lab tech lady from work was trying to remove my baby with a plunger last night!) and needing to pee.

Sorry that you are having these worries mummya

(((hugs))) to everyone who needs them today

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 14/04/2011 15:29

velvet if I get as far as 12 weeks

mattsmama · 14/04/2011 15:37

Hi Ladies - not been on a for a bit - been feeling pretty rubbish. Fair old bit of sickness now and feeling knackered plus bunged up stuffy nose. My scan cheered me up though Smile

Wombat - "chewing my nails to the next scan" sums it up well! My next scan will be 27 April!

Such a shame about knitter . Keep thinking about her. Think it has knocked us all a bit sideways. I'll be even more terrified about the nuchal scan now - there is just always something to worry about all the time! No wonder we all feel so DRAINED and keep having nightmares.

Velvet as far as I am aware the nuchal scan combined with the blood tests gives a more accurate result. Our local NHS hospital has started offering the scan with blood tests but apparently they don't do as "in depth" blood tests as the local private centre does. Apparently they use different blood markers or something? Maybe they will/offer discuss blood tests with you at the scan?

Cravings are changing all the time - as soon as I have had what I have craved the thought of eating it again makes me want to hurl - apart from Ribena - can't get enough of the stuff and ribena ice lollies!

MummyA Really don't know what to suggest - it must be very frustrating for you and worrying. Makes you wonder how women coped before the days of scans and all the tests that we have today. I hope you get the answers you are looking for. x

Blackkat · 14/04/2011 16:03

ok. Sorry for me post. Pink goo, hot, sweaty in london miles away from home, bloody work, and not sure what to do. No cramps, this is normal right! Sorry for me me post, just frightened and need not to be as i'm on taking dad to hosp first thing tomorrow, just want it all to stop Sad

LaraMi · 14/04/2011 16:08

Where abouts in London are you Blackkat?? Guys and St Thomas' (near Waterloo) has a 24 hour walk in EPU if you're really worried.... Although I am convinced you have no need to be. xx

cep · 14/04/2011 16:26

blackkat remind me what stage you're at now?

Wombat33 · 14/04/2011 16:36

Blackkat it can be totally normal and no cause for alarm, especially as you have no cramps. That said, if you're worrieid then get yourself checked-out for some reassurance. I went to the walk-in clinic at St Thomas' on Tuesday (they have two - one for women less than 18 weeks and one for those 18 weeks and over - on the 7th and 8th floors (I think) of the North Wing) and they were good. Alternatively you could head home to your own hospital if you know they are going to be 'open' by the time you get there. Try not to worry too much xxx

Wombat33 · 14/04/2011 16:41

Blackkat, from the St Thomas' website: If you are under 18 weeks gestation, please contact or visit the emergency gynaecology unit, 8th floor, St Thomas' Hospital. This offers a walk-in service. Tel: 020 7188 0864.

It's open until 7pm this evening, or after that you can go via the A&E dept.

MummyAbroad · 14/04/2011 17:00

BlackKat pink goo can just be from cervical erosion, and nothing to worry about. Do whatever you can/need to, to reduce your worry and stress levels though. Getting some kind of reassurance from a doctor/scan really helps and is proven in studies to reduce mc rates overall. Take care xxx

Izzy combined bloods (quad) + nuchal brings accuracy level to 98%. All NHS hospitals do things differently, some dont even offer nuchals. The different types of blood tests on offer are:
double
triple
quad (best)

You would think that each one has more things to test for than the last, but it isnt really. Some of these tests have to be done at different times in pregnancy from others.

The quad tests for 4 different things:
www.americanpregnancy.org/prenataltesting/quadscreen.html

You can ask which bloods test is being done and what the accuracy rate is for the test + nuchal scan.

managed to calm down, getting off the minging tube helped. Have eaten chocolate and drunk tea and decided to get myself back to yorkshire rather than go to epu in london though thank you for all your advice. Will have early night and pop to my epu if not stopped in the am. I'm convinced rushing round work and london yest and today is to blame so need to slow down. Sorry again for me me post will read properly when home and be less selfish. Thanks all x x

Blackkat · 14/04/2011 17:52

cep sorry 6+3 or 4

cep · 14/04/2011 17:59

i think it is quite common to get varying colours during first few weeks, as long as it's not bright red with pain, they say not to worry. I know that's imposible though. Hope tomorrow goes well, will be thinking of you.

Ninunina · 14/04/2011 18:31

blackkat glad you managed to calm down. Hopefully you'll wake up to no more cm in the morning. Wishing you all the best for tomorrow with your dad.
I agree that you need to take care of yourself and slow down.

I'm killing some time in the office before meeting some friends. I'm trying to decide if I should tell them or wait till 12 week scan. They know about mc and are always on the lookout for news, so they might guess when they see my bigger than usual belly.

I'm also trying to decide if I should do the nuchal scan. I wanted to do it, but am having second thoughts. I don't think I would terminate, so what's the point on doing it other than being prepared? I would want to know about other irregularities though, so may do it.

DH thinks we should do it, but is also more likely to want a termination.

Blackkat · 14/04/2011 19:39

Sorry for my selfish posts earlier on, home in the green countryside and consequently feel much calmer ( I don't know how I lived in london for 6 years or how pregnant women manage it every day, I am in awe of all you city-dwellers Smile) ( thought I can see some benefits, 24hour walk in EPU!) No more pink goo, just back to (TMI, sorry) creamy eeugh

Thanks to you all for advice and support, really must try not to mental so much, and think will need to confide in boss as have several of these trips to do before I'm at 12 weeks and don't think I'll cope so well. So may have to plead to be let off.

(((hugs))) to all those feeling unsettled and wibbly today (so that's everyone) but particularly lara, mummya, Izzy and Cep

Good luck for your scan tomorrow velvet

mattsmama hope you're feeling better soon

Ninu let us know what you decide, I've not told anyone yet, apart from the dentist who tried to Xray me! Grin

Off to parents in a bit to stay over as Dad has to be in hospital early doors, they still don't know and I'm having awful thoughts that I should've told them incase something terrible happens tomorrow.

LaraMi · 14/04/2011 20:24

Typing on bberry so excuse typos and incorrect formatting. Blackkat - do me a favour and get yourself an earrly night. You've had a stressful enough day and need to relax. Nothing will be as bad after a good sleep. Thinking of u and hope ur dad's ok. Xx

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 14/04/2011 21:10

blackkat sounds like you've had a hell of a day, hope you're getting some rest and an early night. Hope everythings calmed down tomorrow and that your dad's all right xx

Velvetcu · 14/04/2011 21:23

Blackkat I hope you are feeling better now, good luck for your Dad for tomorrow.

wombatinwaiting · 15/04/2011 06:57

Thinking of you today blackkat - hope you managed a good night's sleep and that you and the family are as prepared as you can be for today.

Hugs for cep - the stress and worry that come with a previous mc is very hard to ignore. When will you know when your next scan is?

mummya - I can fully understand your worries and your concern about getting the truth of the NT measurements from the docs is a valid one. Here in Dubai, they will do the bloods combined with the NT scan to get your risk factor and I know there are one or two places that do CVS. Termination is also illegal here so if we did the CVS here and it's not good news, we would be on a plane.... I am planning to see how Sunday's scan goes (should be 8+3) and if all is well, I will ask my ob/gyn about next steps and CVS. DH and I have already decided that if there is a hint that the CVS is not an oft-performed op here then we will head on a plane at 11 weeks to the UK to do the CVS wherever has the lowest risk for mc and then at least if it is bad news, we are also in a place where we could terminate if that's what we chose to do (and we think it is).... I don't know if this helps at all....

How did the honeymoon album go down with DH tunnocks? Hope you had a lovely evening and that he had some bubbles for the both of you!

Oh and in the latest installment of my weird dreams, last night's dream was about a big faffing around exercise to actually get the scan done (although I had snuck in early and performed dildocam by myself Confused Blush ) and then when the "proper" results came through, my ob/gyn wasn't available to talk me through them and it ended up being the MD and CFO at work and their wives talking me through them...! They were being all factual and couldn't understand at all why I was still upset that there was a 10% chance of mc and thought I was completely over-reacting.... it was weird!

cep · 15/04/2011 07:48

blackkat hope everything goes well today keeping fx.

wiw she's booked me in for tuesday, but if there's a cancellation today she'll call me, but she won't know till 8:30. If it's today i'll have to go on my own as dh won't get there in time. I'm keeping fx for sunday for you, what time is your scan? I'm away sunday so unlikely to be able to get on and check till monday but will be thinking of you.

tunnocks hope you had a lovely evening.
