Tunnocks Thinking of you very much this morning and sending losts of luck your way. Big hugs

LaraMi · 31/03/2011 09:52

Tunnocks - thinking of you and hope all goes well. Try to relax and remember you're doing all you can. I am sure this is nothing to worry about. It's easy to think the worst has happened and we all go to Dr Google right away - there are probably hundreds of perfectly normal things it could and will be.

I went to docs yesterday (remember, am much earlier than all you ladies - prob only week 6). He was totally resistant to me getting an internal scan at all... told me to wait until 12 weeks. Probs is that my DH was there too and of course hung on to the doc's every word. I don't know how the hell I could get through the next 6 weeks without any sort of a scan - especially after I had a MMC last time and so a whole month passed before I even knew bean had stopped developing. Anyways - got my hospital referral and can only hope and pray nothing happens in the coming weeks. Now am so scared, especially as I have my hugely stressful business trip next week. Expectation is that I do an 18 hour day for three consecutive days which the doc said is an absolute no-no.. I don't know how I will find excuses not to work from 6am till Midnight but I can't take the risk of anything happening to Bean.

tunnocks phew! Hurrah for the sticky mini-teacake :) So pleased for you.

katherine2008 · 31/03/2011 10:22

yay tunnocks phewey. lara i had exactly the same - a mmc when the bean had not developed for at least four weeks. i couldn't get a scan an early scan for this one on the NHS, so paid £100 privately - it was worth every penny - I feel a different woman now I've seen the heartbeat. i would try to explain to dh that it's how you feel that matters - not what the doc says

cep · 31/03/2011 10:25

oh tunnocks yay so relieved and pleased for you.

LaraMi · 31/03/2011 10:41

Big cheer to Tunnocks - update us with all when you can!

Katherine - I agree. I might wait for hospital to contact me for booking appt. Then I will tel DH that they have recommended I have a scan with full assurances that there are no risks.

katherine2008 · 31/03/2011 10:46

good idea Lara Smile

Velvetcu · 31/03/2011 10:51

Phew tunnocks I'm so glad you and the bean are fine. Only just saw your posts from last night.

As for early scans, I'm glad I had one at 8 weeks and it was a relief (I also had mmc last time) but now I want another one to make sure nothing bad has happened since.

I'm off work again, I shouldn't have gone in yesterday :(

katherine2008 · 31/03/2011 11:05

velvet rest up and don't think about going back to work til Monday!

KnitterNotTwitter · 31/03/2011 11:09

WARNING: unproven theory coming up!

katherine and lara I had the same - a MMC discovered at 12+6 which they said was 8+4 sized... This has weighed heavy on my mind since then - how did I not know? and why did my body keep it for so long? Having thought everything through I honestly believe that my body wouldn't hold onto something that was dead for 4+ weeks... My theory now is that the bean started struggling at 8ish weeks as something was wrong with the placenta, it then grew more slowly than it should've for a bit as it wasn't getting the nutrients it need before finally the HB stopped. Does that make sense?

It took me a lot to regain trust in my body - ectopic and MMC - and thinking this through has helped - I hope that it helps you too.

This is why I had a scan at 9+4 weeks by my dates - so that I could feel confident that the bean was growing and consequently that the placenta was working fine. I'm very lucky - my DH was very supportive of having the extra scan... Particularly as my mental health has suffered with the pressure of the ectopic and MMC last year - I'm now having counselling - he knows that the reassurance that would come from the extra scan can only be good for me and bean...

katherine2008 · 31/03/2011 11:21

Knitter you may well be right - who knows. My little one measured between 6.1 and 6.4 so it is more than likely it didn't haven't a hb. I think having that extra scan was a great idea - although I'm hoping I can manage to the 12 week now. I feel quite calm about this one this time now - and have made the decision that I won't try again if i have another mc. I am nearly 40 so time is against me - and am blessed to have one darling darling little girl. Not sure I could take the heartache again...

PinkFondantFancy · 31/03/2011 11:31

Fabulous news tunnocks so relieved for you. Your bean is the naughtiest on this thread I reckon....

Lara that sounds really unsafe-have you talked it through with occupational health at your work?

PinkFondantFancy · 31/03/2011 11:34

Oh by the way, just to throw something into the mix on the theory front-when I had a scan during my MC at 8.5 weeks, there was a bean, alive with a heartbeat, but only measuring 6 weeks. So I guess if id had a scan a day later, it woul have looked like a MMC but in fact it was just growing v slowly poor thing.

PinkFondantFancy · 31/03/2011 11:35

Ps I also agree that Pre 12 week scans are extremely good for your sanity.

katherine2008 · 31/03/2011 11:39

Pink that's really interesting. I will try not to let it send me into a downward spiral of worry...and keep my fx that I make it to my 12 week scan ok! Smile

KnitterNotTwitter · 31/03/2011 11:44

Pink that is really interesting - thank you.

PinkFondantFancy · 31/03/2011 11:45

Oh katherine it was supposed to be reassuring!!! I guess what I'm saying is that if things are measuring right for dates at your scan and you have a heartbeat, you have an excellent chance of things being ok. Also wanted to reassure you that maybe your body wasn't holding onto something that hadn't made it before.

cep · 31/03/2011 12:06

Agree with the scans save sanity. my last bean died during the 7th week, it's been that mark which has had me worried this time. If everything goes well at my scan on tuesday i'll feel a bit more positive. then i'll just stress till my 12 week one. Grin

mummya are you around? are you ok? how's the sickness?

Wombat33 · 31/03/2011 14:04

Pheeeeeeeeeeeeew Tunnocks I'm so relieved for you! Have been in meetings at work all morning and kept wondering how it had gone.

Now, [stern voice], Teacake bean. Please behave and stop scaring mummy (and her internet friends)! Thank you.

Lara, I also think an early scan for reassurance sounds like a good idea. On the work front, would you consider telling them? When I was at your stage there was a chance I was going to be sent to three different timezones in a week for long meetings. In the end it didn't happen but I was preparing myself to tell work early and explain my previous MC history to get out of it if necessary. Aside from risk to the bean (which is probably not huge given it's a relatively short time-frame and people go through a lot woorse and pgs are fine), I was most worried about the possibility of having a scare or worse away from home in a strange country and without my DH.

Velvet hope you are able to get some restnow and feel better soon.

Adding my voice to the calls to Mummya hope you're okay! xxx

katherine2008 · 31/03/2011 14:24

pink, don't worry, I know, any excuse to mental...!

Blackkat · 31/03/2011 14:34

1 x bfp yesterday and 2 x bfp today, so hoping I can come and join you, though I've promised myself not to freak out (easy to say I know Grin)

Waves to everyone she "knows" Izzy, Cep, Collie, Ninu, Hils, Velvet, MummyA, and to everyone else
