Having difficulties ttc#2?

Lychees · 13/09/2010 15:00

After chatting on another thread, I've discovered that quite a few of us are having trouble ttc#2.

It's difficult to find much support in RL; people tell you that you should be happy as you already have a DC [I really am!] and unless they've been there, they don't really understand why it's so upsetting not to be able to get pregnant again so I've created this thread so we can share and we have a place that we can rant/vent/moan/support each other......

Sorry for the unimaginitive title ... marketing is not my area of expertise Smile!

FYI, I'm 36, DH is 38, we have DS who is just over two and a half and we have been ttc#2 for 13 months.

We have had bloods and SA on the NHS and an internal scan and AMH privately and so far, our status is unexplained sub-fertility. If I don't get my BFP this time, next month we'll be having another SA and HSG privately.

Sorry to hear of the MC Duff :(

Cannot imagine what you are going through right now.

You are in my thoughts

Luce2006 · 21/09/2010 20:17

DUFF so sorry to hear about your MC Sad

lateatwork · 21/09/2010 20:28

duff thats just crap.

lilysma · 21/09/2010 20:37

Oh god duff that is devastating! I don't know what to say, but our thoughts are with you and hope you are taking extra good care and getting lots of support Sad.

reallygrumpy · 21/09/2010 20:51

duff I'm so so sorry to hear about your MC, I had a MC followed by an ERPC (it wasn't happening naturally) in July. do take care of yourself, I was very weepy for a couple of weeks afterwards.

8rubberduckies · 21/09/2010 21:01

So, so sorry duffegg, I really don't know what to say Sad. Take care of yourself well and make sure you get lots of love and attention from the other half xx

luce I looked at your charts and they look pretty similar to mine (a bit like a mountain range!!!) the temperatures are meant to be a bit more constant. The short luteal phase is meant to be a sign of a problem, anything less than 11 days can make it more difficult to conceive I've heard, so don't be fobbed off by your GP and insist on getting some help.

Taking Vitamin B6 can apparently help lengthen it, and I intend to try it if we're not lucky this month.

Hope everyone else is well. I went to the docs tonight and have to book in to have my bloods taken throughout my cycle, starting Monday. I have also been given a prescription of slow-release Metformin, as the normal ones I have been taking have been making me feel sick so I've been taking too low a dose. If anyone would like to see the GP I saw tonight she's lovely and got straight down to business and listened to what I saidSmile. I'm feeling really positive now, and am going to get some SWI in as I'm away with work for the next 2 days!

Luce2006 · 21/09/2010 21:14

8RD : thanks for having a look!really appreciated!
I did google short luteal phase in February and read all about the B6 so I went a bought a big tub!! Took it for 6 cycles but made no difference to me Sad so I stopped cause I was also getting awful headaches.
Someone on here mentioned high prolactive levels and it made me think...I stopped breastfeeding when DS was 20 months but if I squeeze my breasts I still get milk out..Could it be that my prolactine levels are still very high? And that coupled with the 6 months of pill the gyneacologist put me on last year have stopped me ovulating?? uhmmm I think I'll ask the Dr on Thursday to send me to have the prolactine levels check

Lychees · 21/09/2010 21:23

Duff, I am so so sorry for your loss, hun. It's just so very unfair. Thinking of you.

duff so so sorry to read that.... am thinking of you and hoping you are being looked after.

Whenisitmyturn · 22/09/2010 07:38

Duff big squeeze to you Sad. I'm so sorry.

Prinpo · 22/09/2010 10:45

duff, I'm so so sorry. Sad I'm sure that lots of us know how devastating mc can be.

I don't know how you feel about sticking around, but support is here if you need it. Feel free to rant, let off steam, have a good cry.

My thoughts are with you and your family. Look after yourself.

Luce2006 · 22/09/2010 11:48

Good morning all!

firstly a big hug to Duff

As I said I'm going to see a different Dr tomorrow and I was wondering what kind of test you've had done??
I was reading on a site and it listed the following tests as essential to try and find out if there's something wrong:
prolactine
LH
Estradiol
FSH
Thyroid Stimulatin Hormone
T3
T4

Has any of you had all of these done?

lateatwork · 22/09/2010 15:07

yes. all those. and AMH.

Lychees · 22/09/2010 20:13

I think I also had all those and AMH.

lateatwork · 22/09/2010 23:52

Luce2006 · 23/09/2010 08:27

lateatwork and Lychess thanks for that. We'll see if I can get these test this monring. Re scan,I had one around spring time and everything looked fine!Might ask for another one

Have a good day!

PandaEis · 23/09/2010 10:56

morning ladiesSmile

duff im so sorry to hear your awful newsSad hope you are being looked after x

luce hope your appt went wellSmile

nowt to report hereHmm CD22 and about 8 DPO so AF is due in 3-4 days time...we will see eh!

hope everyone is ok on this fine thursday morning!!

Luce2006 · 23/09/2010 11:42

My appointment was a farse!
Went there armed with all my charts and she had the cheek to laugh and tell me I'm obsessed when I showed them to herShock gosh, I felt like running her over with a super-heavy truck!!!!
I went ther for a second opinio and I got judged AND she didn't feel appropriate to send me for more test or refer me to the consultant before talking to the Dr I'd been seeing till now...well how to WASTE a morning!! I"m so furious I feel like going private!

PandaEis · 23/09/2010 13:21

luce my old DR did this when i went about my ~MCs she said i needed to relax as that is why i keep MCingShock i made a formal complaint to PALs and moved GP. my new one is MUCH betterSmile maybe it might be worth looking around and make a complaint about how you are being treated!

lateatwork · 23/09/2010 14:37

luce some doctors are rubbish at being empathetic... which is why I probably at that point would have burst into tears OR bitten her head off (depending on my mood). you asked for a second opinion and she is referring back to your other doctor? um why?

tbh, i would swap clinics. seems that you arent going to get anywhere fast and you need someone that you feel like is listening to you. Are there other clinics in your area? could you talk to some friends and find out their experiences of dr and hone in on a sympathetic one?

or you could go private...

lateatwork · 23/09/2010 14:40

still cant get over the fact that she LAUGHED at you. that is making me mad. how bloody dare she?!

Luce2006 · 23/09/2010 14:48

lateatwork I was too angry for saying anything!!But i did asked the receptionist to book me in with someone who will listen to me this time cause I wam fed up with wasting my time and been told that I'm young and I have a child so surely there's nothing wrong with me!!
Talked to DH and I've booked an appointment with a private Gyneacologist. It will cost me £150 but (hopefully) he will FINALLY listen to me and LOOK at my charts and my blood tests results and tell me what's wrong.
Must say that the Dr this morning did agree with me that my progesterone levels are too loo and that it's not good that my LP is so shorts but still she refused to prescribe me anythign to try and rectify it Sad
I'll see how it goes next Wednesday but I will defo complain about both Drs

soupmaker · 23/09/2010 16:05

Duff if you are still about, big hugs to you. Was so sorry to hear your news.

I can't believe the way so called health professionals are dealing with some of you. Luce I am outraged at the way you've been treated. I don't know if its my age that makes my Dr more sympathetic or he's just an old fashioned GP who actually cares about his patients - I have never felt pushed out the door by him, quite the opposite in fact.

I feel a bit funny telling you all but I've only gone and got a BFP. It appears I am 5 weeks gone. Can't actually believe it is happening yet, and don't want to get excited for at least another 7 weeks. AF just didn't arrive and my boobs were agony so tested on Sunday night. Wasn't going to tell anyone, but had to tell a mate as she witnessed bodily functions not working properly when I went to visit her - will not go into any further details as it was not nice, but may in years to come be a funny story. I know this will have been hard to read, but I am just amazed it seems to have worked after 18 months of trying.

Lychees · 23/09/2010 16:22

Congrats, Soupmaker. That's great news and it gives me hope that it can happen naturally even if it's been a while. I've kind of lost hope these past few months because I was heading towards and have now gone past one full year of trying.

Luce, I'm also really angry that your GP can laugh when this whole ttc journey can be so emotional, upsetting, devastating .....

TBH, I went private after feeling that my GP couldn't be bothered because I already have DS even though I'm over 35.
