Hi all, mind if I join in? Ive been on Mumsnet for ages but new to this board as am coming off the pill at the end of September. Not sure yet whether to TTC straight away or give my body chance to get back to normal first after being on the pill for so long-14 years. Can't even remember what a normal period is like- I might be in for a shock! Grin

nannyl · 09/08/2010 15:05

welcome not size 10 :)

mrswantstobe... i dont plan on using CBFM until im actually trying..... and really really really hoping that with all my charting and OPKs etc etc that we will be lucky first time...

i guess ill just have to wait and see if im right and who knows i might try it out for the previous month BEFORE TTC, but then the sticks are quite expensive and i dont see the need to spend that money on pratising weeing on sticks to see what happens when i have a stash of cheap OPK's to use as well / instead

notasize10yetbutoneday · 09/08/2010 15:11

I have so much to learn! What is CBFM and OPKs please?!

nannyl · 09/08/2010 15:34

CBFM = clear blue bertility monitor
OPK = ovulation predictor kit

notasize10yetbutoneday · 09/08/2010 15:44

Thanks nanny, will you be using those as soon as you come off the pill? I was rather hoping just having sex would be enough and I wouldnt need to do anyhting more complex than that- but maybe not?

JustShaggingForNow · 09/08/2010 15:45

Grin at Bertility monitor!!!
I also have OPKs and will be starting them this afternoon - intrigued to see if I do actually ovulate as you never really know do you?!?!?

Got a very tedious and dull productive evening planned tongight. The flat has been indesperate need of a makeover since we moved back into it in April and I am donning the painting overalls tonight and starting the revamp. JOY!

JustShaggingForNow · 09/08/2010 15:47

Oooooh notasize10yetbutoneday remember how at school they told us that just looking at a willy would make us pregnant and that we shoudl abstain......... they lied!! I think if they actually told teenagers how hard it can be to get pregnant then they's be shagging left right and centre!!!!

notasize10yetbutoneday · 09/08/2010 15:51

So true...spent the last 10 years trying not to get pregnant and realising now i want to, it may not be that straightforward!

Im a complete numpty about cycles, ovulation and so on (possibly because of being on pil for so long, possibly because of skipping GCSE biology at school)so have ordered Fertility & Conception by Zita West off Amazon. Got some reading to do!

minipie · 09/08/2010 15:53

welcome notazie10!

mrs - yes, I do think my DH's reluctance is largely fear of the unknown. We don't have many family or friends with DCs yet - a few, but we don't see them very often. But I do think that the more DH sees of them, the less reluctant he becomes. He seems more enthusiastic about particular children, who he has some sort of connection to, rather than "children" in general. We are soon going on holiday with a group that includes our friends' 1 year old, so we shall see whether that makes him keener or puts him off the idea altogether [eek]! Fingers crossed the 1 year old will be cute and smiley rather than tantrumy!

I think I'm a way off charting, ovulation sticks and fertility monitors yet... but I guess that world of fun Hmm awaits me!

JustShaggingForNow · 09/08/2010 15:53

You are not the only numpty when it comes to cycles. I took A-Level biology but I am still a bit clueless on some of this stuff!! Also not sure how keen I am to start trying to feel where my cervix is and start messing about with my CM........ am sort of hoping that when I eventually get around to TTC I won;t need to do much more than shag DH a lot when I'm ovulating!!!!!

minipie · 09/08/2010 16:07

notasize10 not notazie10

Just I'm planning on the, erm, more casual approach to TTC as well. Mind you I'm a very impatient person so if nothing happens quickly I'm sure I'll be analyzing my CM with the best of them!

JustShaggingForNow · 09/08/2010 16:11

Hmm am hoping someone on here will stop me before I find myself standing in the shower trying to look at my cervix!!

nannyl · 09/08/2010 16:13

STOP!!!!!!!

JustShaggingForNow · 09/08/2010 16:14

not yet nannyl but thanks anyway!!!!

mrswantstobeamum · 09/08/2010 16:50

LMAO! I need to read up on what looking at your cervix can tell you. I've read a bit on the CM, but not looking forward to the days of analysing it!

I made a decision a few minutes ago and binned the remaining BCPs. But not officially TTC yet - will use other methods for the next six weeks. I am actually eager to throw caution to the wind and start the BD immediately to see if there's any truth to the rumour about the fertility spike after coming off BCP, but I've just got too many other things that need my attention right now. Wondering whether I'm PG would be a major distraction. Plus I've got my SIL's wedding in five weeks, and I don't want to have to have to avoid alcohol completely and open the door to speculation by the in-laws about why (and accompanying accusations of thunder-stealing by the bridezilla).

So that's the plan...let's see how long I manage to stick to it! Wink

minipie, good luck with the holiday with children! I hope the one year-old is on his best behaviour!

JustShagging, what colours are you going for? Feature walls or entire rooms? Decorating can be so tedious (just did our whole house last summer), but the end-result will be well worth it!

pjd · 09/08/2010 20:34

Thanks for the welcome everyone. In my case, DH was never massively keen on having children in the first place, it was never part of his plan really, but it has been part of my plan for as long as I can remember! So he agreed to ttc #1 to keep me happy, which I know isn't the ideal reason, but I was so glad he did agree! When DS first came along and our lives were so totally different, I think DH found it hard to adapt - pretty common among new dads from what I gather, hence him being far from keen on having a second. DS is at such a fantastic age now though, DH is finally starting to enjoy him and they have built a really good bond, so he is now seeing that having 2 of them running around would actually be pretty good. I think something that helps is the fact that most of our friends now have kids, so he sees it totally as the norm.
Last time around I came off the pill in October and started ttc in December. I got pg on the 3rd attempt, in February, and feel very lucky about that, I know it can take a lot longer. Am hoping the same might happen this time around!
Anyway, that's a bit more about me!

strawberrypie · 09/08/2010 20:48

Welcome notsize10!

I'm not sure whether to go down the whole OPK route either or (at least not initially)- I did feel better after seeing a thread on MN asking how long it took women to conceive after coming off the pill, nearly all the posters said 1-3 months! :)

(I stated taking folic acid today...woo-hoo! still TTC in Jan but though it could't hurt to vitamin up to the max!)

Mrs very envious about binning the BCPs! :)

JS you'll have to tell us all about your new decor!

strawberrypie · 09/08/2010 20:53

Sorry x-posted pjd!

nannyl · 09/08/2010 22:39

wahoo

just wanted to share with you all that i have just taken my last contraceptive pill Smile

and thrown the packet in the bin. Grin

not looking forward to the being careful-ness that will be necessary for the next 4 months though Hmm

littlegreenie · 09/08/2010 22:57

Hey ladies can i join too?

I have 2 ds aged 2.5 and 11 months and am broody again for number 3....DH has finally agreed (it'll be our last), and has amazed me by adding "if we are going to go for it lets get on with it" - yey! looking at the possibility of 3 under 4! Charting my cycles now (just had first one since coming off pill) and will start TTC after christmas, Sounds like i'm in good company and there could be lots of autumn/winter babies coming soon! :)

amummyinwaiting · 09/08/2010 23:12

I'm so dissapointed I missed out on the bacon butties and bicks fizz. Can we have them as a late night snack?Hot Chocolate instead of Bucks fizz?
I have completed first day of official healthy (well healthier) eating so am feeling rather smug with myself. Also managed to get dh to eat a whole vegetarian dinner that he enjoyed....what a successful day! Smile
I am bamboozled by all the tests, charts etc-havent thought of any of that yet!
Also, have only just started on periods again as it took ages after coming off contraceptive injection-worry so much that it will effect how long it takes tc.
Started my first day of special needs playscheme today...went really well but am on nappy changing duties tommorow so a little bit nervous.

bebejones · 10/08/2010 07:33

Just marking my place, will be back later when my mum has gone to catch up!
Save me a bacon sandwich!! Wink

JustShaggingForNow · 10/08/2010 08:46

morning all and welcome to littlegreeine I am loving how this thread is filling up!!!

Nannyl - Hurrah for throwing your pill packet in the bin :)

As is's pissing it down with rain today and my boss is already driving me mad (15 mins into the day, think that's an all time record for him!!) I think we'll have more bacon sarnies, perhaps even a few saussage ones too...... Wink

Day started badly when I woke up at 5:30am to rain...... since then I have managed to loose my oyster card and work pass, get splashed by a buss and find only over ripe bananas in the fruit basket at work..... Angry

nannyl · 10/08/2010 09:17

welcome littlegreenie wow we are getting buys now Smile

JS hope your day gets better

judging by the weather and peoples facebook status's i must be in the only place with sunshine... hope it remains as i want to hang out my washing in a minute

am waiting in this morning for my CBFM, (hoping it comes this am) and this afternoon i am hoping to go and buy or "family" car... requirements, fits 3 proper car seats, (2 isofix) and big enough boot for a double buggy + all the baby paraphenalia to allow us to drive the 250 miles to see my family Smile

had lots of garages confused at my need to have a car that fits 3 seats when have no children and have also rejected a lot due to buckle crunch etc!!!

JustShaggingForNow · 10/08/2010 09:32

Sounds like you have a fun day planned nannyl!! Where are you? Tempted to travel there for sunshine as this rain is making my hair frizzy!!!!
