Does anyone else buy themselves presents for Christmas?

I've found that over the last few years I've taken to slipping a few treats away for myself. Its not that I don't get anything at all, but it tends to be a couple of small practical bits. Does anyone do the same either because no one else is buying for you, or just because? So far this year I have some lounge wear and a magazine subscription starting in January - I can't be the only one and if so what have you got?

I bought myself a Christmas present the year I had Christmas Day on my own.

I’d worked nightshift, came home for about 9am. Opened a gift I was a bit disappointed in, and then I had a gift I bought myself, which was sherry and new pjs. Just had a Christmas snoozing in my pjs in my living room, couldn’t get any family to talk to me for long on the phone. But my own gifts to myself were lovely.

I'm a Carer for my two Autistic teens, am now Divorced, and have no 1st degree family left. So, 'Santa' will get me a book, a notebook, some earrings, chocs & a bottle of wine. It will add up to to less than £30 as it will be charity shop & Aldi stuff but it's nice to have a few bits to open. Hopefully my teens will have managed something, you never know!

I’ve gone a bit crazy this year thinking ahead to next Christmas, no idea where I’ll be, unlikely to have a job (sort of retiring but not really) so thought I’d better get stuff now. I wanted a non-boring coat, everyone has a sludgy green one, including me, so I bought bright red instead.

I need dog walking boots, bought some.

My toothbrush packed up, bought a new one.

Saw an Instagram advert for a set of highlighters/eyeshadow/illuminating, bought a dupe.

I bought a few Christmas tree decorations too, silly, inexpensive ones.

Bought new jeans and they were so fab I bought a second pair in a darker blue.

Yep! Every year! I buy myself Christmas and birthday presents and they’re always the best ones 😆 here’s to me! 🥂

WoollyRosebud · 17/12/2025 22:13

Since my parents have died I have started buying myself a birthday and a Christmas present which I say to myself is from them. They were both very generous and loved giving presents so I feel why not. I usually buy myself flowers on their birthdays to remember them as well and toast them with a G&T.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 17/12/2025 22:52

I’ve bought myself a water flosser and put a fancy bottle of gin on the Christmas shop. Husband has a bottle of whisky and will hopefully get a mug too

SapphireSeptember · 17/12/2025 22:53

Yes, been doing it for years. My family send me money for Christmas and birthdays so I buy things I want, and often top it up. My mum sent me my Christmas money in October, because I was visiting a friend for Halloween, and wanted to get myself some things from Claire's before they closed down. (😭)

I've bought myself some Orly nail polishes, fancy tea and some chocolate covered mint creams for Christmas.

ETA: DS is still only a baby, when he gets older I'm planning on giving him a tenner or so and asking my mum or one of my friends to take him to the shops and pick something out for me. Nothing very expensive, but I want to get him into the habit of it, especially for any future partners!

OnlyHereForTheChristmasBoard · 17/12/2025 23:48

Not officially, but in practice I do tend to pick up a few bits for myself when I'm buying for other people. I bought myself a paperback and a copy of Good Housekeeping today. I'm probably going to buy myself a couple of fabric book covers from Persephone too, they're gorgeous.

The food in our Christmas hamper is mostly stuff I like best as it's me buying it, tbh, although I do my best not to eat all of it!

MinecraftMum40 · 18/12/2025 00:01

Yes I’ve bought myself some gourmet treats that are a bit pricey to buy any old day so have treated myself for Christmas. Might buy myself some pjs or fluffy socks and a Christmas mug too.

kittyfairy66 · 18/12/2025 00:08

Same or I tell hubby what I want I have a hocus pocus house this yr stranger things funko lol last yr I got a chunky doll 🤣

RoutineQueen3 · 18/12/2025 12:52

Yes I always buy myself prezzies! Why not!

soccermum10 · 18/12/2025 12:56

No but I'm definitely going to start doing this 😊

Fizzink38 · 18/12/2025 13:13

Mmm - not really, but I do buy people books well in advance so I can read them first. DP is excellent at present buying, as is DD, so I get lovely surprises, and my parents always give me money, so I can buy what I want/need 'from them' (as they are rubbish at presents, it's like they've never met me) this year I've used the cash for the deposit for a weekend away in Feb with my best friend.

noonames · 19/12/2025 07:20

Not buying for DH this year so I spent the money on pressies for myself instead, all bought and wrapped a couple of months ago so while I can remember some things, others will be a surprise.

DC want money so just have a couple of little things to open, I’ll be the one with a pile of presents this year, I’m quite excited 😊

My kids are adults with their own lives, and fortunately we are in a good financial position for me to splurge on a few luxuries. At 65, I don't need "stuff", my luxuries are a great bottle of French champagne and 100 gs of Oscietra Ars Italica caviar.

DH said to me "I'm not paying for the bottle (he doesn't like champagne) but the caviar is my Christmas' present". The problem is he loves caviar and he'll eat half his present.

BeddieT · 19/12/2025 07:37

I usually buy myself a good puzzle book like the GCHQ ones to do over the festive period, so I suppose that kind of counts. Other than that, not really.

BG2015 · 19/12/2025 07:37

I’ve bought myself a night away in a hotel, a theatre show and meal. DP gets to join me and gets to pay for the meal

IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth · 19/12/2025 12:02

When I was long-term single I absolutely bought myself presents for Christmas, otherwise underneath my tree would have looked incredibly bare. Usually a couple of books, dvds and CDs, things I would then enjoy over the festive/new year period when I was doing very little. And obviously bought myself loads of edible treats.

ilovebagpuss · 19/12/2025 12:25

Yes! After my mum died I always bought something to me from her if that doesn't sound nuts! I don't label it from her but mentally it's her reminding me of her love and to treat myself. I think she would like that.

thisoldcity · 19/12/2025 12:35

I have my birthday quite soon after Christmas so after that if no one has successfully read my mind and bought me a black cashmere jumper, a pair of purple suede gloves, a pair of large silver earrings from an art gallery I saw on holiday and a bottle of flavoured gin, then that's what I shall buy myself.

YearOfTheDrizzle · 19/12/2025 13:49

Yes! I have just bought myself a massive Jellycat octopus.

I am a lone parent and one of our nannies often helps my children to buy a few little things for me with their allowances these days, but my family don’t bother. One particularly “nice” year they all came here (4 other adults) to be hosted at my house for several days over Christmas and had declared beforehand that we were all now “not giving gifts between adults at Christmas anymore, only for children”. Fine. Except that then they all sat in my living room on Christmas Day giving multiple presents to their partners, so actually what they had meant was that everyone should have presents other than me and I sat there with nothing to open from anyone (my children were only 2 and 3 back then, so I had also purchased presents for them “from the children”).

I LOVE the octopus and don’t feel the slightest bit sorry about the cost. 🫣😆

UneAnneeSansLumiere · 19/12/2025 13:54

Not exactly, as I am pretty self indulgent year round. I earn well and I don't stint myself. That said, I tend to splurge more on the house during Christmas. All the decorating gets me in the mood to pimp the house a bit.

thisoneiscalledbluebellsinpastels · 19/12/2025 13:59

YESSSSS! I do this every year. My parents are both dead and I have no siblings so apart from my DH and my children, I have no family left. DH and the kids get me stuff but I miss having my parents around.

Therefore, every year I buy myself some nice bits at Christmas.

This year I have bought myself: She Uemera absolue overnight hair serum, Jimmy Choo fake tan and a Magnitone pebble.

I completely agree and relate and I think she would 100% love that x

I always buy myself something nice for Christmas.
This year I have packages from Disturbia and Joanie Clothing that I got in the Black Friday sales to open.....can't wait!
