I've spent the afternoon with a friend, and we've been planning our annual Christmas Shopping Extravaganza - it's become our default present to each other, brunch somewhere nice, a browse around the shops, coffee in a garden centre etc.

We don't actually buy much other than a few stocking fillers for our children, and a few little items here and there, but she asked me what I really really wanted for Christmas.

I said I would love a copy of Sense and Sensibility, preferable a dusty well thumbed paperback.

She wants a door stop.

Neither of us is being a grinchy bah humbugger, we're just quite happy with a little token gift. So what would you like?

A while ago I saw an ad on Facebook for a Star Wars magic mug. All the characters’ lightsabers light up when you put a hot drink in it. I want that.

Black knee high boots that I can zip up over my chunky calves - not designer just high street.

not tiny like a door stop but I don’t spend money on things like that for myself.

I really want the passenger princess cup from primark that’s been haunting my Fbook feed - not in stock for click & collect or anywhere near me sadly 😔 since DD arrived I’ve been a passenger princess in DH car with DD in the back!

I want good hiking socks and a super lightweight sleeping bag.

Books. Lots of books.

Luckily I will probably get them :)

A Robert Welch toilet brush. So expensive but such good quality!

dontforgetme · 28/10/2025 23:23

A new kindle.

MsSmartShoes · 28/10/2025 23:33

Ideally - not to have to host our parents. Realistically - new slippers.

I had to look up Robert Welch and am intrigued as to what makes this so good and so much more expensive than other brushes?!

dogtraveller · 28/10/2025 23:36

A good drill.

ChristmasHug · 28/10/2025 23:36

OP would you be interested in my 70+ year old mums hardback copy of Sense and Sensibility complete with award plate that she was presented at school?

I'm just about to charity shop it.

Their stuff doesn't rust. I have their toilet butler and, unlike the last one I had, it looks absolutely beautiful after many years. The previous ones I had rusted quickly.

I also have their kitchen knives, which are also fabulous.

And I love their designs.

Big fan here!

I really want one of those rolife kits where you build a little scene.

covilha · 28/10/2025 23:47

An outdoor water proof storage container and a greenhouse with non breakable glass, please

covilha · 28/10/2025 23:49

Oh yeah and a couple of those Scandinavian socks please in pastel shades, thanks

Genuinely just want both my kids at home for Christmas. That would be enough of a gift. The house is overflowing.

Enough4me · 28/10/2025 23:55

Clear skin with no effort (a tall order that Santa won't fulfill).

mondaytosunday · 29/10/2025 00:34

Yarn. I have tons but never the right one for the project I want to do next…

FrothyCothy · 29/10/2025 00:37

A bigger bottle of Saltworks’ Ko Mene fragrance as the mini one I got in a set last Christmas has nearly run out.

A book called Dopamine Home.

There were two other things I had on my mental list but I’ve already forgotten them 🤦‍♀️

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 29/10/2025 00:44

Record player. Only because it was my birthday recently and my older brother tracked down a very sentimental record for me from our childhood, but I don’t have anything to play it on.

4thtimelucky · 29/10/2025 00:44

To not be on my own - it's exh Christmas with the kids this year and dp has an awkward custody swap so probs won't get to spend time with him either.

BeaLola · 29/10/2025 00:53

Now I knew who Robert Welch were as someone I buy for last year asked me for oyster forks and that's the store I bought them from - they were lovely.

What would I like this year .. hmmm

Well maybe something from Robert Welch or Culinary concepts like salt pots or vase/jug

A needle case

Potted hyacinths - Iove these every year

A lovely and cosy longer than hip length no button wrap cardigan in a soft grey or navy that I curl up in or throw over a dress when I go out - no idea if the perfect one exists but it would be a well used present

Fever tree martini mixer

Pavers do wide and extra wide boots, may be able to help
