Did anyone get a disappointing or thoughtless gift from their dp/dh? We’re you happy with what you got?

looking for good and bad stories to make me feel better (and less ungrateful) 😬

TBF we have been together less than a year but I expected a thoughtful gift, I now feel stupid for buying him thoughtful gifts and spending double what he spent on me. Of course I don’t want to sound ungrateful so I have come on here to moan quietly and see if anyone else wanted to join me. Also wanting to see what amazing things you all got from your other half.

I got some Jo Malone perfume and a diamond tennis bracelet. I didn’t get him anything as we vaguely said we didn’t have the time or energy to get each other gifts a few weeks ago 😬

More than happy. He got me a metal wall art of the plane I fly (I'm a pilot in my spare time), and a new headset. He knew I wanted a particular headset and I knew he'd got me it but after opening it I'm still quite gobsmacked he was willing to buy it for me - they're not cheap.

Been together 17 years now, married 9.

Lansonmaid · 25/12/2024 17:50

I got a stand up paddle board to keep me active during my retirement. Going to get DH some good quality walking boots. We like outdoor stuff!

TurkeyDinosaurs2 · 25/12/2024 17:51

@Lansonmaid that's an awesome present !

Funkyslippers · 25/12/2024 18:01

I got some random stuff like I always do. The main thing was an Alexa alarm clock thing which i wanted but I also got some cheap Bailey's substitute which I probably won't drink & he's been addicted to auctions lately so bought me a weird skincare set which has snail serum etc. I have skincare coming out of my ears already so seriously don't think I'll be touching this set until at least next Christmas. He has more money than sense. Everything I bought him was something he'd either asked for or I knew he'd like. I'd really rather he saved his money so I don't have to try & pretend I like it. Thought that counts & all that I suppose...

I got some really nice pjs and a leather bag, some jo Malone nectarine perfume and some white company smellies. Happy with all of them, dh always gives nice gifts. I gave him a joules bathrobe and a charcuterie guillotine and a selection of sausages. Well received.

A Christmas jumper that says Nakatomi Plaza Christmas Party 1988 on. I love it! Someone had one at our Christmas party and I was admiring it so he was obviously listening. He got a mug and a poster with cricketing fielding positions marked on that he'd mentioned he'd like earlier in the year.

Together 20 odd years and agreed no presents this year as we've just done expensive house renovations. Clearly neither of us are good at sticking to the agreement.

After 14 years of getting a “cute” t-shirt every year and feeling no disappointed I actually told him what I wanted this year (a frame for a picture that was painted by my grandad normal NY before he died), and he excelled at the challenge by matching it to a frame of another picture in the same room and getting it professionally done so it looks stunning 🙂

I don’t know why I’ve spent so many years expecting him to mind read when all he needs is a pointer in the right direction!

AnonKat · 25/12/2024 18:07

Very spoilt! Some puzzles, crafting, skin care, new gloves and a few small things.

I love everything. He does ask for a general list, though a few months ahead of time.

Mrsttcno1 · 25/12/2024 18:08

I’m really happy with my presents from my husband! A new bottle of my favourite perfume, a personalised calendar with photos of our baby girl for each month, a necklace engraved with our baby girls name and birth date (I love sentimental things and was planning on getting something like this myself but what he chose is honestly better than anything I’d have picked), new PJ’s and slippers, a little box of my favourite snacks he’s put together and a few other bits. He can be really thoughtful and I do honestly appreciate so much the effort he put into that!

Sproutssproutssprouts · 25/12/2024 18:11

My DH tries super hard so I feel bad for complaining but the clothes he bought me are in my pre-pregnancy size and they don’t fit me now we have a baby. I know he didn’t mean it badly but it’s made me feel awful about myself (youngest DC is 7 months).

CandyCane457 · 25/12/2024 18:12

What did you get OP?

Im pleased this year! I got a gorgeous bracelet, perfume, a couple of games, a book and a massage gun.

Becsim · 25/12/2024 18:12

Very happy here. He bought me a Dyson air wrap. This is a far more extravagant gift than ever before. I feel awful though because my postpartum brain cried when I couldn’t figure out how to use it. 🙈
got there in the end.

I got him a weight bar that he asked for and a few little bits like favourite aftershave and a new pair of vans.

we will be spending less next year, even though we loved our presents this year.

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 25/12/2024 18:15

Tickets to see a comedian I really like - I'm really pleased! He also coordinates my gifts from in-laws and the kids which is much appreciated as well.

I got a T-shirt vaguely related to one of my interests and something to wear (for him). Not much thought went into it.

DH got me Dyson air straight, adanola jumper and socks and some chocs - he earns a lot more than me, so does like to spoil me. I got him an advent Calendar which I filled with cute cheaper personal presents and then got him some ski socks (he has a ski trip with some friends coming up in feb) and electric toothbrush (he wanted one)

We have 3 kids between us - but still like to give lovely gifts to each other as only been together 7 years

cunoyerjudowel · 25/12/2024 18:23

It's hard if you have different love languages- mine is gift and he is very much affection / acts of service so needs promoting and advising re presents where I love being creative

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/12/2024 18:25

Very happy. Vivienne Westwood jewellery - I sent him the link and we agreed a budget beforehand. I got him what he wanted too. No way would I trust him just to buy something! I don’t like surprises (or the shit you generally get if it is a surprise).

RaveToTheGrave1 · 25/12/2024 18:27

Got some fancy gins and mixers, rare books I've been after for ages, two lovely perfumes and a foot massager cos I'm always whinging that my feet hurt from the gym, I'm mega chuffed 😂

Icequeen01 · 25/12/2024 18:29

My DH is so thoughtful. My handbag fell out of my car when I opened the passenger door and into a huge puddle and ruined it. It was covered in mud and soaked through. It wasn't an expensive one but I was upset about it.
DH had already bought my Xmas pressie (Pure Musc perfume) but raced out to John Lewis on Xmas Eve and got me a lovely real leather handbag to replace the one I had ruined.

He's a keeper which is why we've been married nearly 40 years!

Catsinaflat · 25/12/2024 18:30

I'm thrilled. I got a much needed new hairdryer but best of all a MetaQuest 3 VR headset of my own Smile

Ozzyskye · 25/12/2024 18:30

Dh got me a lovely satchel, an eye mask, some earrings, a puzzle, cross stitch and two Lego sets I had asked for ☺️ very happy

MissConductUS · 25/12/2024 18:34

DH got me a series 10 Apple Watch to replace my series 7, and some posh hand cream and a few bits and bobs.

We’re doing a kitchen remodel, so that’s my big present.

DappledThings · 25/12/2024 18:37

Nothing. And yes it's what I wanted. Hate getting presents and I'm shit at buying them.
