Did anyone get a disappointing or thoughtless gift from their dp/dh? We’re you happy with what you got?

looking for good and bad stories to make me feel better (and less ungrateful) 😬

TBF we have been together less than a year but I expected a thoughtful gift, I now feel stupid for buying him thoughtful gifts and spending double what he spent on me. Of course I don’t want to sound ungrateful so I have come on here to moan quietly and see if anyone else wanted to join me. Also wanting to see what amazing things you all got from your other half.

I got a Lancôme Idole gift set, fluffy socks, Lindt choc and M&S apothecary calm hand wash/hand cream set.

Love the Lancôme set (I sent him links to several things I'd like - perfume or cosmetics), love the fluffy socks and chocolates as they are my favourites. The hand wash etc - weird, he bought we exactly the same set for Christmas 2022 and I didn't like it... ConfusedGrin

So all in all, not too bad..

I got a Dyson airstraight and a hair dryer 🥰

It's hard if you have different love languages- mine is gift and he is very much affection / acts of service so needs promoting and advising re presents where I love being creative

Yes! Really is difficult, DH and I are so different. I love buying gifts and always put a lot of thought into them, DH just finds that much harder. I always thought I was easy, as I'm not fussy, but I realise now that that probably makes it harder for DH as he doesn't have much to choose from (or far too much!)

Elphamouche · 25/12/2024 18:50

DH (as always) has done very well. I am very lucky, he does every year for Christmas, birthdays and anniversary’s.

2chocolateoranges · 25/12/2024 18:53

Dh bought me shoes I picked and I got him aftershave he liked. We sets budget of £60 as we had decided we would book a weekend away in January or February as our main gift to each other.

super happy with what I got.

A Christmas jumper that says Nakatomi Plaza Christmas Party 1988 on. I love it! Someone had one at our Christmas party and I was admiring it so he was obviously listening. He got a mug and a poster with cricketing fielding positions marked on that he'd mentioned he'd like earlier in the year.

Together 20 odd years and agreed no presents this year as we've just done expensive house renovations. Clearly neither of us are good at sticking to the agreement.

My husband got me the Nakatomi Plaza tshirt, I love it too!

5 books, 3 Northern Scents candles, Harry Potter memorabilia, M&S smellies and some bubbly. He did really well this year and didn’t go over the top with money. I love everything, he’s been so thoughtful. It’s been one of his better years.

coldscottishmum · 25/12/2024 19:00

A beautiful personalised canvas photo I can hang of the two of us on holiday and a live location of where we first met with our anniversary. So well thought out I cried when I opened it. We’re due to move soon and I can’t wait to make him hang it up! He also got me a voucher for a small piercing/tattoo place, he knew I was saving and got the full value + extra! Merry Christmas all.

APurpleSquirrel · 25/12/2024 19:04

Tickets to see Six, a wetsuit, bee revival kit, notebook & bag, playing cards & new kindle case - all stuff I wanted or love.

wheresmyshoe · 25/12/2024 19:04

Vanessa Stockard art print 'another chair, another day' that had to be sent from Australia, so happy as I absolutely love it and have admired it for ages. Other lovely thoughtful things too.

Nope. Sadly despite having an online list that gets update throughout the year (started for the kids but as I'm often told I'm tough to buy for figured it couldn't hurt for me either) I got a voucher for a place I previously swore I'd never go back to. He's forgotten. I'm feeling like I should be showing more gratitude because at least there was a gift which is more than previous years. But for me it's not the gift that matters so much as the thought and effort behind it. What this shows me is that rather than thinking about me as a person, or reading my list (which to be fair didn't have anything which could be easily purchased last minute which I'm imagine is the issue) he's gone online yesterday and bought a voucher for a place which is very stereotypically a 'female' gift. Leaving me wondering why my instinct is to feel like a fussy, ungrateful cow rather than being angry that there is an actual list right there in black and white and he still managed to get me something I won't ever use.

Bleugh.

Totally, it is the thought and not the amount spent of the fact he managed to buy you something. It’s nice to get something you actually want/like because they should know what you like right? I don’t understand why it’s so hard.

I got an Astrid & Miyu advent calendar as a joint birthday and Christmas present. I chose it, but if there’s something specific I want then if I tell him he will buy it. Same the other way around. We’re both quite particular and get each other the odd little surprise but this way no one spends a fortune on a rubbish gift that won’t get used.

Gcn · 25/12/2024 19:28

Very happy, he got me a diamond tennis bracelet, perfume and shower gel and a big box of cinnamon lozenges

Patienceinshortsupply · 25/12/2024 19:30

I'm in shock - I had a new pair of Le Chameau wellies, a beautiful gold bracelet from a local independent jeweller and a large candle from the White Company.

Emilyjayne9421 · 25/12/2024 19:35

Very happy. I got a bottle of my favourite perfume, crafting bits (card making), a lovely picture of us all, and crocs (which I had asked for).

DappledThings · 25/12/2024 18:37

Nothing. And yes it's what I wanted. Hate getting presents and I'm shit at buying them.

I hear you! We don't get each other anything for this reason

FuzzyPuffling · 25/12/2024 19:44

Lansonmaid · 25/12/2024 17:50

I got a stand up paddle board to keep me active during my retirement. Going to get DH some good quality walking boots. We like outdoor stuff!

Tamar Lakes for you tomorrow!

spuddy4 · 25/12/2024 19:49

Nothing. We decided we'd rather have an extra holiday instead.

Toomanysquishmallows · 25/12/2024 19:53

I got two pairs of earrings and four Pandora charms , I’m very happy.

Mince3141 · 25/12/2024 19:56

I went to buy myself my favourite brand of posh socks as I use the stocking as an excuse to get them (they're not cheap) and discovered the shop had sold out. This morning I discovered the reason they had sold out was my husband had bought them for me. Obviously socks aren't the main present but I'm seriously impressed.

Tortielady · 25/12/2024 19:56

DH got me a Murder on the Orient Express mug (my favourite mug for tea, my OU Graduate one, is looking very tatty) and this one is a nice fit with my PhD. He also got me a biography of Agatha Christie.

I got Seasalt socks in the Black Friday sale for both of us and a law textbook DH wanted for his PhD. It may not sound like much, but the price of law texts, even second-hand is enough to make your brain hurt and this one, it turns out, is in nice condition.

We've both been given money - I haven't decided what to do with mine yet.

AllEndeavour · 25/12/2024 20:02

We agree on a £40 limit so i got him a book, a dvd & a big photo of our toddler & baby that he hadn't seen. He got me a bread bin but then 'from the kids' bought me a breadmaker as i had talked about wanting one. A really nice surprise.

LaPalmaLlama · 25/12/2024 20:04

AirPods- that's what I asked for so happy.

dreamer24 · 25/12/2024 20:06

I got my favourite perfume, new hair straighteners (my other ones broke a few weeks ago), some Benefit make up which I asked for, a large bag of my favourite Lindt chocolates, a personalised notebook for work, and some AirPods for running. Very happy 🥰
