Did anyone get a disappointing or thoughtless gift from their dp/dh? We’re you happy with what you got?

looking for good and bad stories to make me feel better (and less ungrateful) 😬

TBF we have been together less than a year but I expected a thoughtful gift, I now feel stupid for buying him thoughtful gifts and spending double what he spent on me. Of course I don’t want to sound ungrateful so I have come on here to moan quietly and see if anyone else wanted to join me. Also wanting to see what amazing things you all got from your other half.

Mine is very good at shopping to a list and I’m very happy with a 100 stars dressing gown for the summer and some new Chilly’s things. Always have to think of stuff for him though and this year his haul was a little too practical. You can’t have it all!

I paid for a holiday and got toilet roll in return😬

I beg your finest pardon?!

MrsMagpiepie · 25/12/2024 21:20

We never bother with gifts on any occasion. If we want something we buy it whenever. He does write me extremely thoughtful, personal, beautiful letters though so I at least feel I'm spoiled.

Plasmodesmata · 25/12/2024 21:26

Nothing. By prior arrangement I got him the same in return. Much easier!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/12/2024 21:29

I got an Apple Watch which I was expecting, a couple of books, martini glasses, and a cocktail shaker - one of the books was “Taylor Swift inspired cocktails. I’m full of cold and feel rotten, so we will save the cocktail making for new year!

Bornnotbourne · 25/12/2024 21:30

@IDontLoveTheWayYouLie is there a backstory or is he a colossal twat?

I’m on the verge of leaving my partner and he hasn’t bought me presents in years, he generally used to buy a house hold item such as hoover or cleaning stuff but stopped when I told his friends. Today I got two presents and a bunch of flowers which were beautiful . I know I should be pleased but I’m pissed off, he had so many years to make an effort.

I got 2 bottles of my favourite perfume ( appears to be slowly being discontinued)
My favourite chocolates
Goodies from Lush
Baileys ( he gets me a bottle every year)
And some lovely Bose headphones

caringcarer · 25/12/2024 21:38

I was very happy. I got a diamond and sapphire 9 carat gold pendant to go on a gold chain I already have. An electric blanket I'd asked for. Lego sunflowers, Lindor chocolates, a battery toothbrush for travel, a new jumper and I've been told I've got a few more bits for when we get home. We were away at my DS's today and tomorrow at MiL's.

Snugglemonkey · 25/12/2024 21:40

I got a stocking with a pair of turtledove cashmere gloves, a voucher for a hotel stay, for just me (I sometimes say I want to escape them all for one night, and this year was believed. My favourite present!) And a couple of beauty things I bought myself to put in there in case he forgot my stocking (this once happened and dc1 wondered why mine was empty 😑).

I also got a cashmere jumper and a weird pack of bath bombs shaped like mermaids and a Lush snow fairy bath melt that the children picked. And a shopping voucher for our nearest mall because dh has limitedcapacity for thinking of gifts, and actually, I love shopping, so it works well for us.

I am happy 😀

A Christmas jumper that says Nakatomi Plaza Christmas Party 1988 on. I love it! Someone had one at our Christmas party and I was admiring it so he was obviously listening. He got a mug and a poster with cricketing fielding positions marked on that he'd mentioned he'd like earlier in the year.

Together 20 odd years and agreed no presents this year as we've just done expensive house renovations. Clearly neither of us are good at sticking to the agreement.

I really want this jumper. My fingers are itching to Google it, but I so have enough Christmas jumpers!

Rewis · 25/12/2024 21:44

I got some chocolate, laptop sleeve and new charger. It was what I wanted. He doesn't have a job so he was worried that it wasn't expensive enough, but it was perfect.

polkadotchristmas · 25/12/2024 22:04

We don't go gifts but love reading these

DGPP · 25/12/2024 22:12

Perfume, chocolates and my favourite alcohol. Very happy

Porkyporkchop · 25/12/2024 22:14

I got a lovely hand bag which is from a designer that I collect. I also got two hoodies that I will never wear and are both horrible colours. It’s always a strange mix from DH.

Loafbeginsat60 · 25/12/2024 22:20

Really great gifts this year - he's really good at buying!

A sewing machine, which I wanted.

My favourite perfume

Holland cooper biker jeans exactly my size and length too (double brownie points)

A silk sleep mask

A heated blanket.

Bosh! Happy wife

honeyfox · 25/12/2024 22:23

I haven't opened everything and picked a few bits myself. But the best one was a handwritten voucher for flights for the city break of my choice 😊

Doubledded123 · 25/12/2024 22:29

Wow these gifts are extravagant, I'm hanging round with the wrong people!

PermanentTemporary · 25/12/2024 22:32

Tickets for the sleeper train to Penzance in the spring. I'm absolutely blown away. I've wanted to do that journey for decades, I did the sleeper to Scotland 20 years ago which I also really wanted to do, but the Cornwall one has never been done for various reasons, usually the cost. He also gave me a book I'd never heard of which is straight up my alley, and a top end travel mug as mine leaks now.

I'm not as good at presents as him but didn't do too badly, but frankly I now feel it's worth the stress!

asco · 25/12/2024 22:42

We decided last year to start buying each other a long w/e away instead of 'stuff', we still get plenty from the kids and family.
So I got a 7 day Camino holiday - he loves to walk/hike/climb, outdoors is his thing and he has booked, from what I have quickly read, a bit of a luxury one, so all luggage transferred and fancy accommodation.
I got him a 4 day trip to a stunning hotel which has amazing rooms and service, a fab spa and in an area filled with great pubs/restaurants/scenery.

Sid9nie · 25/12/2024 22:43

New kindle.Very happy.

Mybadcat · 25/12/2024 22:44

I bought him the new Armani aftershave and a custom made wallet
I got some lovely hand cream

LittleMachine · 25/12/2024 22:44

We have brought each other to Tenerife. We rarely buy each other gifts as we are both very hard to buy for.

peachgreen · 25/12/2024 22:44

Delighted. He organised all my presents from him, DD and my DPs, so I got a whole heap of lovely things. Some candles (Neom massage candle, Neom bedtime candle, my favourite peat fire scented candle), perfume (Baccarat Rouge dupe I’ve been after for ages), some lovely soft Free People cream socks, a CBD oil bath set that he knows I love, a selection of Lush bath bombs, a silk sleep turban, a new navy and white striped apron, some tan outdoor slippers from FatFace, one of my favourite albums on vinyl, my favourite Charbonnel et Walker champagne truffles, Antonia Fraser’s book about Henry VIII’s wives (my favourite area of history!) and the most beautiful Daunts wool-lined leather gloves. I’ve never felt so spoiled on Christmas Day to be honest!

ProvincialLady24 · 25/12/2024 22:45

DH and I agreed not to get each other anything for the first time in 23 years and honestly - it's been amazing!

We will go for a swanky night away in the new year instead.

We have cut back this year and so far it's not caused any disappointment.

Mybadcat · 25/12/2024 22:46

I really need to get a new man
