Did anyone get a disappointing or thoughtless gift from their dp/dh? We’re you happy with what you got?

looking for good and bad stories to make me feel better (and less ungrateful) 😬

TBF we have been together less than a year but I expected a thoughtful gift, I now feel stupid for buying him thoughtful gifts and spending double what he spent on me. Of course I don’t want to sound ungrateful so I have come on here to moan quietly and see if anyone else wanted to join me. Also wanting to see what amazing things you all got from your other half.

I've been totally spoiled. I asked for a cookery book - He got me a signed copy. I also got a Tiffany necklace and a MacBook! Very grateful but still a bit shocked.

UpUpUpU · 25/12/2024 20:13

He’d taken me shopping for new clothes so I knew what I was getting. There were a couple of surprises in there too. One cost such a small amount and was very silly but very thoughtful based on a conversation we had months ago.

My absolute favourite was some Lego roses. When out shopping we were talking about Lego and how I actually love helping the kids but have never had a set myself. Roses are my favourite flowers and the gift just really hit the spot as super thoughtful

He completely spoiled me, I'm slightly shocked! I got a new coat, an iPhone, chanel no.5, and a Jo Malone candle. More than happy with those!

shakeitoffsis · 25/12/2024 20:16

My husband got me bloody brilliant presents this year but WOW we have had some stickers in the past. Croc slippers. Strictly tour tickets, Pilates socks, drowsy eye mask, benefit mascara, an LED make up mirror for my dressing table and a spa day!

BrunchBarBandit · 25/12/2024 20:28

I’ve been really spoilt with a few things off my John Lewis wish list: red leather gloves, fancy parasol umbrella, lovely moisturiser and a pair of trainers. He went off-list with some Dior perfume, some VB eye make up that he knows I use, and an ornamental plate which he had made- sounds odd but is of something really meaningful to us.

He is lovely and I feel very loved.

pinklemonsparkle · 25/12/2024 20:29

I got

Miss Dior perfume
New pj bottoms
A sign to put above the door Xmas Grin

I got a beautiful crystal vase, which explains why he was so insistent that we get fresh flowers yesterday (and why he tried to get me to not buy some on Sunday 😂).

StrawberryWater · 25/12/2024 20:35

A jigsaw, a fleece blanket and a mug (chipped after he dropped it).

Spent about 500 on him in total. He spend 40. It's not the monetary value. It's the thoughtlessness and the fact I won't use any of that stuff (not even the mug as I drink water / juice out of a glass and never drink hot drinks).

He reckons he hasn't had the time. His office is in the town centre! Half the things I suggested he told me he didn't like. I had to point out that he was buying for me not himself.

Christmas has been utter shit to be honest.

DH didn’t get any specific asks from me this year so offered to contribute towards some bigger things I’m planning this year for my hobby.

He bought fake money from Amazon and selotaped it to a bottle of a washing liquid I’d seen an advert for and gone on about how nice I thought it would smell 😅🤣

Just lovely 🥰

RabbitsRock · 25/12/2024 20:39

DH & I go shopping a few weeks before the big day & get things for each other (this year was a £60/£70 budget). So far I’ve got a duffel coat from Primark & will choose a pair of ankle boots after Christmas. I bought him jeans & a long sleeved polo shirt which really suits him. We then have a budget ( this year was £20) to buy surprise gifts. I was happy with all mine :- a shower cap (doesn’t sound very exciting but I’d been saying that I really needed one as I normally only shower when my hair needs washing), a Terrys chocolate orange, Lindt assorted truffles, Dove body wash set & one of those big water bottles with measures & encouraging phrases on the side. Trying to up my intake so that will be ideal. I got DH some Guiness Zero, a mini screwdriver set, LED keychain torches, socks & a big bar of fruit & nut.

Salohlah · 25/12/2024 20:41

£1k to buy something for my hobby, in fairness it’s not something off the shelf so he couldn’t have bought it and wrapped it!

AhBiscuits · 25/12/2024 20:44

Coffee pods
A couple of nice coffee cups with saucers.
Oodie
Pyjamas

I'm very happy with my gifts. It was my birthday last week and I got theatre tickets and a jumper. He's done well.

pizzaHeart · 25/12/2024 20:46

I’ve got new coat ( bought it together before Christmas), chocolates and tickets to the show. Both tickets and chocolates we bought together as I said I wanted them. He just wrap it up with DD so it was for her sake mostly. I don’t mind, we are nearly 30 years together, had very busy last few months with various problems and then were unwell just before Christmas so it’s fine.
At the very beginning when we were young, carefree, without DD and health problems I expected thoughtful presents bought without my involvement but now I’m looking at a bigger picture.

DustyMaiden · 25/12/2024 20:47

We sit on the sofa together and order what we want. No surprises. We wouldn’t know what to get for each other’s hobbies.

we each bought really nice Christmas cards last year so we used them again this year. We said we’re being eco friendly.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/12/2024 20:48

Fluffy socks off the kids, a Labyrinth mug, a book A Spa day voucher which I'll book for Jan or Feb whilst he has the kids. I'd say that's fairly typical, but poor thing has my birthday too shortly

PoorUncleBarry · 25/12/2024 20:49

I'm very happy with the gifts I had this year. They're all unusual and completely perfect for me, they demonstrate thought which means the world to me. Doesn't change the fact that 9 years ago he bought me a single gift of rubber comic ears and he moaned because he hadn't organized a real gift, I explained that he was being a dick and ruining a nice day and he's never done that since.

macap · 25/12/2024 20:50

A set of earrings and a ring (unfortunately too big so going to have to exchange) new fluffy dressing gown and slippers (he's fed up of me moaning in cold I think 😆)

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 25/12/2024 20:51

I paid for a holiday and got toilet roll in return😬

PastaAndProse · 25/12/2024 20:51

DH bought me a Mulberry Bayswater (my favourite everyday handbag has fallen apart a bit lately so this was actually quite a thoughtful, if extravagant, gift), and completely unprompted. He also bought me the walking pad I'd asked for, and my favourite Jo Malone perfume and chocolates. All in all a good year Xmas Smile

Doitrightnow · 25/12/2024 20:53

I got a toilet butler, which sounds rubbish unless you know that this is a beautiful piece of high quality design which I've coveted for a decade (really) but never been able to justify the cost of, and have hated the old rusty one every time I've gone in to the bathroom.

SleepQuest33 · 25/12/2024 20:56

I’m so relieved DH and I don’t do Christmas presents! We give each other presents for birthdays.
It’s already such an expensive time of the year and the stress of having to find something is horrible.

Jobsharenightmare · 25/12/2024 20:58

I actually feel a bit embarrassed that my husband got me one gift that's actually for the household and I got him lots of personal gifts ...so I have held one back for his birthday!

MaMoosie · 25/12/2024 21:03

I got a hand bag which is exactly what I’ve been wanting even though I didn’t actually know what I wanted so he did really well there! Then I opened it up and there was a pair of Gucci sunglasses I’ve been dribbling over for a while so very very happy!

Canyouseeblueskies · 25/12/2024 21:04

Absolutely nothing.

I was until 2 making the magic for the DC. Then first up to make the turkey.

Luckily I bought myself a gift. he then asked if I'm paying for our meal tomorrow too
