Did anyone get a disappointing or thoughtless gift from their dp/dh? We’re you happy with what you got?

looking for good and bad stories to make me feel better (and less ungrateful) 😬

TBF we have been together less than a year but I expected a thoughtful gift, I now feel stupid for buying him thoughtful gifts and spending double what he spent on me. Of course I don’t want to sound ungrateful so I have come on here to moan quietly and see if anyone else wanted to join me. Also wanting to see what amazing things you all got from your other half.

I really want this jumper. My fingers are itching to Google it, but I so have enough Christmas jumpers!

I want the nakatomi tshirt, sadly I have three Christmas tshirts I cannot justify another. Theres another that has ho ho fucking ho on it. I'd love that too.

I got an ugly mens dressing gown with hood. Mens because pockets, hood because I like to hunker down with hood up to blur out the world and ugly so I know he wont steal it. Some beautiful leather gloves and a oven glove set that he chose, in the correct colours to match the other stuff in the kitchen. I'm happy enough. He got a lovely fleece lined shirt. We spent roughly the same, around 70 ish. And I kept stuff back for his birthday in 3 days.

S72 · 25/12/2024 22:49

Nothing. We have been together 6 months or so and find the whole Christmas thing quite overwhelming. Instead, we have gone halves on a couple of nights away between Christmas and New Year. He also bought my son a gift which was kind.

Turophilic · 25/12/2024 23:06

A new fleece “because you’ve been wearing your old one a lot and it’s really, really old”. He’s right, it’s over 20 years old I expect, but it’s very practical. (Not sure I’m quite ready to give it up)

However, I appreciate the thought, and it’s made of 90% recycled fibres which is good.

A book about coin collecting and a jeweller’s loupe because I have kept interesting (to me) coins since I was a kid and he thought I might want to know more about them. A bit out there, but thoughtful.

He also did all theChristmas cooking while I sat and chatted with my Dad and our (adult) kids, which was just fantastic.

CrushingOnRubies · 25/12/2024 23:06

A lovely silver bracelet
Some champagne glasses
A calendar
Spa date
Perfume

By extension the dog got me a nice pair of socks

I got him some crocs and smellies. I didn't have a clue what to get him and there was a chance that he would be away for work over Christmas.

CrushingOnRubies · 25/12/2024 23:07

I've been very lucky

The politics of gift giving leaves me exhausted. MN is today full of people bemoaning bad presents. I think everyone should just get over it. it’s really not that big a deal.

GravyBoatWars · 25/12/2024 23:11

Framed photo prints of our DC for my office (he impressively managed to arrange a professional photo shoot for all 7 in secret) which I love. But this weekend we have reservations for a night away while the DC stay with my parents - I picked out a restaurant & booked a table the he found a nice hotel nearby and scoped out breakfast options. Most years we agree to a pretty modest budget on gifts to each other and then set aside a chunk of budget for doing something together.

Yet this thread is full of people happy with their gifts.
Merry Christmas! 🎄

I’m baffled more than anything.

We agreed no gifts as serious money problems. Yesterday afternoon DH popped out and bought me something very expensive, random, useless and ugly. I just don’t understand and also resent the waste of money.

I stuck to the no gifts rule, (but have done all the cooking including DH’s favourites, and created some free entertainment.)

FunnysInLaJardin · 25/12/2024 23:20

delighted!

Been together for 37 years and as usual he came up trumps. Perfume that I love and an amazing Nespresso coffee machine

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 25/12/2024 23:20

I got a gorgeous gold ring with an aquamarine and diamonds.
I'm really happy!

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 25/12/2024 23:21

Utterly chuffed. We’d said no/minimal presents, so I got him a hoodie from a gig we went to that he liked and a bottle of a cologne he likes that’s not expensive. We’d said we’ll go away later this year. He got me a pair of limited edition converse which are brilliant and posh chocolates. After doing all the heavy Christmas lifting I don’t feel guilty about the disparity. Grown up kids came up trumps too.

strawberryblue · 25/12/2024 23:21

My dh surprised me.

He can be quite thoughtless so I wasn't expecting much.

But

He replaced something that had broken that was special to me. I didn't even mention to him that it had broken but he must have seen it or noticed it was something very sentimental and the fact that he replaced it exactly made me cry 😭

JustPloddingOnBy · 25/12/2024 23:25

I don't have a DH/DP but my kids excelled themselves (11, 15, 17, well the 15yr old organised it all). I got a jacket that I had tried on a few months ago but didn't buy, my favourite childhood sweets that they remembered from a conversation ages ago, a new candle for the kitchen as mine is nearly fully burnt and a book I had said I would quite like. Hopefully I have raised future DHs to be proud of 🤞

my teens did brilliantly too. DS1 is at uni and bought the most amazing thoughtful gifts for us all. I am so proud of my kids!

I got a stand up paddle board to keep me active during my retirement. Going to get DH some good quality walking boots. We like outdoor stuff!

I'm a Lanson maid too...pre retirement age though. I bet we've crossed paths!

Therealjudgejudy · 26/12/2024 00:24

Two large bottles of Jo Malone perfume

A gold necklace

Arsenal away jersey.

Oh, and some fluffy socks and new slippers!

RawBloomers · 26/12/2024 01:27

I got a bunch of small things related to a couple of hobbies, all of which are great. We’ve been together more than 3 decades, though. Both of the hobbies are ones I started, at least to some extent, because of gifts he gave me in the past.

When I was a teen I had a boyfriend I’d been with for just a few months at Christmas and he got me the most god awful green and gold leather handbag. I put it in the back of a cupboard and we never mentioned it again. He ended up being a decent boyfriend for the rest of 6th form.

ChristmasIsComing2024 · 26/12/2024 02:19

The best surprise gifts that my partner got me are Lego mini figures he made of us and our little boy and a print of a grumpy rain frog 🤗 I love them 💕 We’ve had a really nice day and I got lots of lovely things but those are my favourites 😊🎄

Greycatclub · 26/12/2024 03:42

3 jumpers, a Neom diffuser, voucher for a welded bracelet, Jo Malone perfumes and hand cream, trainers, books, Knopps hot chocolate and marshmallows… very spoilt this year, love it all.

Powderblue1 · 26/12/2024 04:04

We're doing some house renovations so skipped gifts this year. Getting my very own library wall instead 🥰

Stressedoutforever · 26/12/2024 07:05

Dh got me a fancy coffee maker, some leggings I wanted but didn't want to pay 80 quid for and a fleecy blanket thing

Absolutely made up

89redballoons · 26/12/2024 08:03

I asked for jewellery, and got a lovely sterling silver and enamel necklace. Also a couple of cookbooks "from the kids" that I will enjoy perusing and then probably just cooking the same old 5 dinners on rotation Smile

I got DH wireless headphones, which he wanted, in the black Friday sales, and some homemade art from the DC.

We didn't go crazy on each other this year, we spent a lot more on the children, but I'm happy with what we got each other.

MadameHomais · 26/12/2024 08:13

He bought me some boots from Le Chameau with criss cross laces all the way up to the top, like I had when I was a girl.
It was a lovely thought and a surprise as we had agreed no presents this year.
We have been together for decades.
