Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@motheronthedancefloor I have bought a foldaway BBQ from Regatta for a fisherman in the family, who camps overnight? In fact I bought two as I spotted someone with one when we were camping this year, using it for logs, and a campfire and I thought it was a great idea! It was £15 when I bought it a few weeks ago.

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 28/11/2024 21:55

Would never order from OHS again. Put an order in last year and it was just a shit show. Seen someone else on one of the threads had alot of trouble with them too and terrible quality. I sent everything back as it was dirty and horrible material. Hard work trying to get any communication going too.

Mince3141 · 28/11/2024 22:02

shark store on* *eBay giving 25% off with code BF25. Also had a discount with code frosty8. Got myself a refurbished hot brush for about £30!

@nothingcomestonothing
When I had a problem with Boots they were helpful on twitter / x so maybe try that route

icouldnteatanotherbite · 28/11/2024 22:24

Body Shop has 40% off most things and has I think 8% cashback via TopCashback.

Delivery fees are steep but free delivery to store, if you have one locally.

Hi Everyone. Love this thread. I hate to ask but I'm hoping someone might have an Argos code they could share? About to make a big purchase and it'd really help 😬

I left a bad review on Trust Pilot for them and they told TP I was lying so it needed removing. I had to send screenshots of my complaint emails to enable it to remain published!

mogtheexcellent · 28/11/2024 22:33

After waiting aaaages for black friday discounts at Fatface they now have off 30% selected lines. Fortunately the handbag i wanted is included.

Its for me as ive done all my present shopping Xmas Grin

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 28/11/2024 22:35

@NoWordForFluffy that's appalling but I'm not surprised at all that they acted like that. I honestly don't get how people encourage others to use it on here. I got the feeling it was a bunch of friends just buying direct from China and shipping on to customers. The lack of quality control and everything else that went wrong was shocking. Having to explain my complaint daily to a new person was tedious, they weren't even logging my complaints (apparently) but were quick enough to get a courier to my house when I'd received someone else's massive parcel! Sorry you had to endure their crappy attitude too.

Vimaybe · 28/11/2024 22:35

Does anyone know if more things/further discounts are likely to come into the Oliver Bonas sale? I want a few bits typically none of it is discounted and I can't seem to get my £5 credit to work so I'm really reluctant.

Trainstrike · 28/11/2024 22:36

Went real life shopping at TK Maxx today and they had this Sonic Lego for £60, cheapest I'd seen it was £90 https://www.argos.co.uk/product/3448937 they also had loads of board games and stocking stuff. Love it there at Christmas.

Givealittlebit · 28/11/2024 22:49

Has anyone received one of the cheap thermal printer cameras yet and has tested/can recommend? I need one that's fairly sturdy for my 4 year old who will love the novelty of it printing out, but definitely doesn't warrant expensive paper!

dramalamma · 28/11/2024 22:50

Got a bargain in Asda today - 12 mini squishmallows marked at £35 on the shelf but scanned at £20 a they had loads of them too. Id already paid £35 for a set on amazon for our advent calendar (when i dithered in deciding whether to order the official squishmallow advent calendar too long and they all went out of stoxk) so im returning those and keeping the bargain asda ones.

mogtheexcellent · 28/11/2024 23:00

Brakeburn have lots of discounts up to 50%off most things plus extra 10 off with code EXTRA10.

Bought some new clothes to go with my new bag. I need to stop spending now. Xmas Blush

UntamedShrew · 28/11/2024 23:02

If you have a my John Lewis card, they are giving scratch cards with every shop purchase this week. I made 2 purchases in store today and got two cards, both were for £5 off a £30 spend from 6th Dec until Xmas, which will be used on things not in their current offers.

The only downside is they made the silver scratch area absolutely mahoosive so it’s a little tedious but it’s mainly just ts and cs, the top line tells you the deal you get.

Not sure whether my links work again but we got This camera when it was reduced to £14ish a week or so ago

it works as well as the one it was replacing, which was £30 odd last year. That one has stopped charging after intermittent use, obviously not well made.

my totally uneducated opinion is that these thermal ones are all much of a muchness quality wise: cheap and cheerful and I don’t think there’s a gold standard type version of them, unless maybe the branded studio creator (I think it’s called?) has a bit more assurance, but the prints are more a novelty than a keepsake for sure

Wooden drawing board/easel, the kind that sit on tabletop then can fold flat. The Works usually sell one. Include some bulldog clips or tape to keep his paper on it.

Different paper - grid paper, tracing paper, stacks of standard white paper (supermarkets usually do an A4 drawing pad)

A couple of books to inspire him or use as car reference, the kind for kids with lots of pictures, like 'Best Supercars'

deeplybaffled · 29/11/2024 00:16

Can anyone recommend a good hot chocolate kit that can be posted directly to the recipient, please? Ideally one that contains the hot chocolate as well as the marshmallows, sprinkles and all that jazz, please😀

A light up board for tracing?

crayola do a good one (I share with the kids 😁) but there are others. Crayola definitely have a car design tracing pack (free) on their website to use with them - might be a bit young I can't remember

or there are some really good "how to draw" book series that include a car/vehicle one

drawing pencils & fine liners
