Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Jellycat are never reduced - they are super strict about retailers doing this and if caught out they banish them into the netherworld…..

Occasionally you will see certain old
lines reduced everywhere but the latest ones, never.

There’s a few reduced at kidly

Jellycat

Shop our range of Jellycat soft toys and books for baby, toddler and kids up to 5. In addition to Jellycat we stock much more, from the world's best baby and kids brands plus our very own KIDLY Label. Enjoy excellent service, easy delivery and returns...

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 28/11/2024 20:04

Re Jellycat, maybe there's somewhere to buy them that do generic discounts?

Hi, be aware that if you have ordered a GlossyBox to check the contents carefully. I thought mine was complete rubbish when it arrived today but have just realised that’s because most of it was missing.

I am really hoping I haven’t tied myself into a subscription, (it’s not clear how to cancel if so), as what I have received is mostly fit only for the bin!

Rescue2024 · 28/11/2024 20:14

Just to say, I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday wrapping presents kindly donated through the Dunelm Christmas tree donations amongst other ways.

the presents were all lovely and it was so nice to see so many donations for the children.

deals on candles and chocolates please?

Also still stuck for an older teenage boy!

https://domeluxury.com/ do gorgeous candles (although I normally buy their diffusers) and have a fab deal on for black Friday. A free diffuser with code BLACKFRIDAY and £15 off a £60 spend with code SPARKLE60, the codes can both be used together.

Thanks to those who replied to me about the mice. Has anyone seen small duplo sets on offer anywhere? I’ve bought some for approx £7.99 at Aldi in the past. Just want a token gift for a colleagues daughter. Thanks

zeebee · 28/11/2024 20:23

Does anyone know of a way to reduce the outrageous p&p for a Subdued hoodie, pretty please, other than going to one of their London shops (not possible)? DD pleading but at £18 delivery, it’s currently a no.

For those with swimmers, TRIHARD have 25% off their chlorine related products. The eye gel/cream might be a good one for goggle marks and irritation.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 28/11/2024 20:34

Anthropologie and white company include jellycat in any Sitewide codes - they don’t have a huge choice but there are some

That's lovely to hear. I handed in my bags this week. How did you get involved with the wrapping ?

IlovePond · 28/11/2024 20:39

Well done @Rescue2024 - what a nice thing to do.

There’s a couple of Argos that are in the 3 for 20 or 2 for 20. Might be worth also cross referencing with Amazon in case they are price matching

fishfingersandchipsagain · 28/11/2024 20:48

Aww that’s lovely @Rescue2024 I have two to drop off at the weekend (two men) and I wondered whether they got wrapped. They said not to wrap them and to bring them in an open gift bag. There also seemed to be an implication that more gets added to them at some point?

I was disillusioned by a local charity a few years ago where it turned out that not everything was making it to recipients, so I rather liked that with Dunelm you are responding to a specific request.

I found what my daughter wanted on Vinted as refused to pay the postage and tax. Might be worth a look?

NotMeekNotObedient · 28/11/2024 21:07

@sidecg I really rate Klean Kanteen water bottles. Pretty much indestructible and you can buy replacements lids, which can also grow with the child - sippy (non-spill), sports cap ect.

Broken12 · 28/11/2024 21:09

Whoever was looking for river island discount codes…Asda are doing get 10% in your cash pot of you buy one via them. Worth it if you’re definitely keeping the clothes

I’m glad my message helped. There was very much plenty to pick from and we added chocolates, warm gloves etc we ran out of chocolate selection packs quite early in the session.

I wrapped everything individually so there were things to open, these were for children only and added chocolate, sweets, sticker sheets in to the gift bag a bit like we do stockings at home.

1st time I’ve been excepted in to the programme so I’m hoping I can do it again next year

flouncymcflouncerson · 28/11/2024 21:29

White company have 20 % off everything (supposedly) with code WHITE20. I managed to get a jellycat dragon I’d been eyeing up and some slippers!

motheronthedancefloor · 28/11/2024 21:32

Thanks for the candle link!

Now all I have left is to think of a gift for an older teenage boy - he likes fishing, like really likes it, and other outdoorsy stuff.

@Rescue2024 do you apply online? I'd love a good bit of wrapping!

I feel like the voice of doom, but I wanted to warn others about OHS, where I know a lot of us bought heated blankets. The one we bought wasn't faulty per se, but didn't heat up quickly, compared with the other one we already had (more than ten minutes later it was barely warm). My daughter didn't love it, so I started the returns process. This was easy enough - I had to drop it off to a Yodel point.

Since then, it's been showing that it's been delivered to OHS for over a week, but they haven't provided a refund. I have emailed them chasing up, but still no joy.

I checked TrustPilot and I think I'm not the only one with this issue. Hopefully just a bit overwhelmed with the time of year, but I wouldn't order from them again.

Yes, I googled volunteering in my area and this came up along with others, I’ve signed up to count the money in collection buckets for when the sleighs sit outside supermarkets etc as well!

nothingcomestonothing · 28/11/2024 21:55

Not very impressed with Boots customer service - one of the 3 for 2 items I ordered for home delivery arrived damaged. I took it to a Boots store whose system said they had it in stock, to get a replacement, but they couldn't find the item in the store Hmm, and they wouldn't give me a refund 'as it was free'. I emailed Boots online who said 'sorry you didn't receive your free gift, we are unable to send a replacement'. It wasn't a free gift like a sample or something they chuck in with an order, it was a Xmas present I needed! Grrr.
