Thread 6 - the one with Otis and the Christmas miracle

Reastie · 18/10/2024 12:51

@Cupofteaandbiscuits and @NewtyCutey loved the happy reunited story with Otis.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Game suggestions please for family of 5: children are 20,17 and 14. Not too long or taxing but fun. Bit stumped as they have quite a lot of my usual go to ideas.

My recent go-to is Wizard. Basically a twist on nomination whist but so good and gets very competitive! Lots of fun 😊

Does anyone have any recommendations for books explaining card games (rules for games with actual playing cards IYSWIM?) I can only remember a couple of versions of solitaire and gin rummy and DS interested so I thought might be a good stocking filler? Thanks

We have 'Card games to play' from Usborne which has a decent selection, is easy to understand and sorts them by difficulty.

mummyof2boys30 · 22/10/2024 17:59

Spongebob crocs down to £45 on crocs www. Does anyone have a disccount code that works on sale stuff?

Remember last year Valentte had amazing discounts all stacking, 241s, etc? Are they still doing that? I'd like to get some candles and wax melts but they seem a bit pricier than last year but not sure if that's because I've unsubscribed from their emails so not getting offers any more.

I've re subscribed in the hope of these amazing offers as I love their stuff but nothing so far! The re s a few deals but nowhere near the deals we enjoyed last year so far. They haven't released the chocolates yet and I remember ordering some (absolutely delicious and had to re order to replace...) to make it up to free P&P so maybe they aren't out yet?

SpottyBumPony · 22/10/2024 18:43

Does anybody have a Biden code they don’t need? Or could add a referral code to the other thread?

Our favourite is the family edition of Cards against Humanity even for the older kids - for me the adult version is just a bit too rude (so er anyhow!) but the family edition is enjoyed by everyone from 8-80 in our family
Not particularly bargainous on amazon but may be cheaper elsewhere amzn.eu/d/f5LUccv
We also like cobra paws which is down to £12 on amazon and argos at the moment amzn.eu/d/hnFc7dp
Bananagrams is my favourite and my teenagers adore Unstable Unicorns (tho i cannot follow it to save my life!!)

Slightlydustcovered · 22/10/2024 19:52

It's a game for 4 not 5 but I have just ordered off a friend recommendation. I haven't played it yet myself. Blokus and with voucher it's currently £16 on Amazon.

@lifelongfrugaleer thank you so much, I’ve just seen that another person has pm’d me one already.

thanks again!

Trainstrike · 22/10/2024 20:00

I know this comes up every year and probably has already so sorry if it's been discussed recently! But does anyone have any recommendations on football kit websites? Kids Premier League tops are £65.

TheCrow · 22/10/2024 20:02

@Delahot we have regular games nights and these have gone down particularly well out of everything we've played-
Hues and Cues (mentioned upthread), Dobble, Block Party, May Contain Butts (this looks like a kids card game but it's seriously addictive and probably our favourite), 5 second rule.

Delahot · 22/10/2024 20:14

Thank you for all the game recommendations. Great ones to look 👀

I have a £10 off when you spend £50 Boden Biden code if anyone needs it. Expires Friday.

HeadOfGregor · 22/10/2024 20:17

Adding to the game recommendations:

Pass the pigs
Scattergories

allatonce99 · 22/10/2024 20:23

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned... Sainsbury's up to half price toy sale is tomorrow from 6am

WhereTheresAHill · 22/10/2024 20:36

There a couple of the treat bottles available on Tesco, on offer with a club card

I also have a £10 off boden voucher, doesn’t look like it has a minimum spend. Let me know if you’d like it and I’ll PM over.

Mads96 · 22/10/2024 20:57

Can anyone recommend a safe potions kit for kids? I'm sceptical of buying one from Amazon as want it to be all safe ingredients

Also, I have a few free photo calendar codes for photobox I won from the McDonald's monopoly if anyone would like them, have to pay delivery still and can't be used together to order more than one in one transaction.

I also have a discount code for virgin experience days if useful to anyone!
