Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

Reastie · 05/10/2024 19:23

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Anyone know the cheapest place to get the stronger with you aftershave? Is it likely to come up in Black Friday deals?

Purrcats · 09/10/2024 23:11

Been looking out for the game “Secret Identity” for a while since playing it at a friend’s house.

This is the cheapest I’ve seen it sold for. Also lots of other items reduced currently so worth checking out.

The Magic mixies crystal balls are both at £30, and the Refill packs to make more mist are £6, which is half price

edit - I did get the pink one for £25 a few weeks ago, so this isn’t the very best price

Edited

The refill has gone down to £4 now!

Does anyone know if this comparable to the magic lamp bargain of last year? 4yo wants the same as her 6yo sister but I can’t bring myself to buy the same toy!

@NewtyCutey Is gravitax basically a more complex marble run for older kids please? Not seen these before (my eldest is coming up to 6)...

If you look on YouTube there's many videos of people making really complex Gravitrax runs. I was so excited to get it for DS but waited till he was nearly 7 because it can be a bit fiddly and requires patience. I got a mega bargain on a starter set and when I established he loved it I bought lots more second hand. Marketplace is a great place to look. It seems to be one of those where it's either loved, or it's opened once and never touched again which means there's lots of 'like new' bargains to be had.

BadgerFace · 10/10/2024 05:43

NewtyCutey · 09/10/2024 22:34

Yes, exactly. Recommended age is 8+ but my four-year-old DD loves it (building together). We use it a lot, but I'm sure it's one of those things that kids either really take to or try once and never get it out if the box again.

We get our gravitrax out about once a year and get a good family afternoon out of it but I can see how other children would like to play for hours more often (like my DD do with Schleich unicorn vs big cats Holkeinesque herd sagas… 😂)

The add on parts are great for cheaper future birthdays/Christmas. The catapult brought much joy to us all one Boxing Day!

Wigglewoowoo · 10/10/2024 06:54

I've skipped most of this thread and amazon prime days 😱
Now I'm looking for a new Xbox... anyone have any ideas how to get them cheaper?
Thank you 😊

Bumblebeesince19 · 10/10/2024 07:00

I'd also like to jump on the nespresso band wagon- if anyone has any eyes for any deals for that today. Purely selfish, I want to gift it to myself... but I will share when guests are around...

lemonsmum · 10/10/2024 07:04

Lidl's wooden toy event is the 17th there is a few pages of toys and some seem slightly different to Aldi's selection

Did anyone find the Prime days underwhelming this time? Nothing that I wanted/needed!

SparklyLimeJoker · 10/10/2024 07:21

The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher is £1.99 on Kindle today. A firm favourite in our house.

I actually got the hot wheels garage back down to £50 after twatty House of Fraser didn't bother sending the one I ordered nearly two months ago.

Yet another customer they've lost.

BeGoneDom · 10/10/2024 07:30

@Annie1290 I'm by no means an expert but have been looking at Nespresso recently for our office. There is the original style and the newer Vertuo. Originals have smaller pods that lots of supermarkets do an own brand version of, while the Vertuo are quite large and I think there's currently a reason that the pods are only available from Nespresso themselves, so no bargains to be had there. The Vertuo seem to often be on sale on Amazon for £70-something including some pods.

I got a good Black Friday deal last year for a new Xbox via Very. I got the console only but there were other packaged deals with games too.

Thank you to the person who recommended the Cashmere fingerless gloves from tazzie. They are absolutely beautiful and the seller was so friendly ❤️ they also come nicely packed and make a wonderful present.

Sorry this isn’t christmassy but thought you would be the best people to ask! Where is the best/most reasonably priced place to buy flowers? Need for next day delivery. Thanks in advance 💐

@CandyRaining i can highlyrecommend Freddie’s Flowers - great quality and a choice of sizes/prices. I’ve put my referral code on the referral board if you’re interested which gives you 20% of a one-off gift box or a free box if you’d like a subscription for regular deliveries (easy to cancel or skip deliveries which can be weekly or up to monthly).

Can I just have a whinge about M&S. I missed the last decent discount they gave me on clothes (which was months ago). I have about £300 in my basket and keep checking back, and what have they given me? 15% off seabass 🙄

Ahh I'm sorry but this has made me laugh! 😁

Perhaps they have seen your MN username?!

Aldi have little pots of chocolate snowmen, Christmas bears and Father Christmas - conveniently 25 in each, so good for advent calendars. They were £3.29 each I think.

What's the best way to get an ASOS discount?

I'm only buying one thing, not in the sale. No students in the house and none of the codes I can find on Google seem to work,

Does anyone have a code or any tips please? 🤞
