Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

Reastie · 05/10/2024 19:23

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Are the Laithwaite’s wines any good? Saw a few deals on and wondering if they are drinkable ?

@marshmallowmix they are lovely wines and good quality. You can get good deals on first time ordering after that not so much. I don’t have a subscription but they do send emails and post every so often with some discounts. Plus it’s cheaper to buy a cases of 12 x bottles as you pay lower price. I like them and tend to alternate between laithewaites and majestic.
If you try them definitely get some Black Stump.

CandyRaining · 09/10/2024 21:27

Thanks @Darkbutstarrynight and @beetr00 for the flower info. I did click the thanks icon next to your posts but I’m not sure if it works as it doesn’t change when I click it 🤔

@ilovepond argos and amazon have the cherry blossom for the same price if that also helps.

Also price matching these in John Lewis- I ordered the cherry blossoms from there as they had sent me a £5 off voucher!

I’ll pm you 😊

Could I possibly jump on the code bandwagon too? 🤗

Ilovepugs2017 · 09/10/2024 21:30

Has anyone tried the alcohol free wines from laithwaites?

Another thing to tick off please - can I have your recommendations for a good frying pan please, described by DH as 'a posh non-teflon one' ?!

Also delighted with my whistlefish order that came through today. OHS heated blanket came yesterday and is great.

I have one of these: Ninja Possible Pan. I highly recommend it - I use it almost every day for all sorts of meals. It's pricey but does go on sale, I think I paid £80 for mine.

Pandagram · 09/10/2024 21:36

This might not help anyone because I know cash back can be account specific, but for everyone asking about Argos vouchers Monzo are currently offering me 7% back on orders over £100 and I presume that works even after discounts are used. Might be worth checking if your bank/card offers it?

Fuckingfuckssake · 09/10/2024 21:40

@Ilovepugs2017 and everyone looking for a Lucy and Yak code can you please move it to the referrals thread? Gives everyone a chance to have their referral code used and to benefit and saves this thread getting clogged up, it's an issue we constantly have to revisit and it's frustrating.

TheCrow · 09/10/2024 21:44

Thanks for sighting of the Harry potter eggs, home bargains and sainsburys are a bit of a trek (was only in home bargains yesterday as well!) but we have a small tesco in town so will check there 🙂

So sorry! I had put it on the referrals thread before I posted it on here. Anyone who wants the code is welcome to pm me 🙂

@MulberryPeony can I ask where you got the crocodile skull from please? My friend thinks her son would like one.

issantahereyet · 09/10/2024 21:57

Thank you @Rainraingoaway21 @Theimpossiblegirl @lemonsmum for replies regarding Bohomoon, will definitely keep an eye out for the £10 days!

Scout2016 · 09/10/2024 22:02

@MulberryPeony sorry wrong poster! Apologies.

@Timelass I wanted to ask, where was the crocodile skull from please?

I'd go for circulon. They're robust, they're roomy, they hold heat beautifully.

@NewtyCutey Is gravitax basically a more complex marble run for older kids please? Not seen these before (my eldest is coming up to 6)...

Elpheba · 09/10/2024 22:30

Thanks @BadgerFace and @IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile for the solicited and unsolicited advice- much appreciated, especially the photos, Badger. Mumsnet at its very finest!!

fishfingersandchipsagain · 09/10/2024 22:31

Can I just have a whinge about M&S. I missed the last decent discount they gave me on clothes (which was months ago). I have about £300 in my basket and keep checking back, and what have they given me? 15% off seabass 🙄

Edited

My daughter has gone nuts for them after a DGP buying her one. I thought I was winning when I spotted one in the middle of aisle of Aldi... until I got it home and accidentally trod on it! On the plus side I enjoyed the broken chocolate.

Yes, exactly. Recommended age is 8+ but my four-year-old DD loves it (building together). We use it a lot, but I'm sure it's one of those things that kids either really take to or try once and never get it out if the box again.

Blessedbethefruitz · 09/10/2024 22:38

@NewtyCutey Fab thanks - that's totally up my ds' street. I'll start keeping my eyes peeled for the basics at our awesome toy charity shop for next year I think!

Annie1290 · 09/10/2024 22:44

Any Nespresso experts here? DH has suggested he'd like one, but no further information was forthcoming. Are they the same, what's the better one to get, any good deals around?
