Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

Reastie · 05/10/2024 19:23

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Has anyone seen any good deals on Neom christmas essential oils?

Try QVC.

Fuckingfuckssake · 08/10/2024 22:18

@Beautifulsunflowers one dark Toblerone winging its way to you.

juicyjellybaby · 08/10/2024 22:40

Has anyone’s little ones got one of those didicars? My 7 year old was on one at a birthday party last weekend and has asked for one for Christmas but I am worried she may be to big to get much use out of it?

SomePig · 08/10/2024 22:42

For anyone with cyclists to buy for, the company Proviz has been having sales all this week, with some things at 50% off for the next 48 hours (probably less than 48 hours by now though as the email dropped into my inbox earlier today). Their silver jackets are brilliant if you don’t want to wear something wildly fluorescent to stay safe: they look like a regular jacket during the day but are extremely reflective in car headlights and under streetlights at night. I first heard about them from a thread on MN and now see more and more of them on the roads!

I had them at a birthday party for my daughter and adults were using them without issue.

sorryiasked · 08/10/2024 22:52

@BeaLola quite expensive but I like these ones which take fat balls rather than seeds.

SomePig · 08/10/2024 22:52

Sorry, double-posted about the Proviz sale with @Juiceinawineglass2!

Duckyneedsaclean · 08/10/2024 23:53

Any suggestions for best Christmas bedding for DS12? I only succumbed to Christmas duvet sets a couple of years ago and feel like the design is too childish for him now? Preferably brushed cotton as his room is freeeeeeeezing!

Try Matalan i hope you find something there. If not, Dunelm?

There's some lovely brushed cotton sets in Asda. We've bought ours from there the past few years and I've always found they wash well and are super comfy!

We have one and the weight limit is high enough for many adults.

Does anyone know when Sainsburys toy sale starts pls?

Came on to ask this as it was exactly a year ago!

Amazonmulu · 09/10/2024 06:36

Can anyone remember where the cheap UGG slippers were last year (though may have been two years ago 🙈)?

I didn't get any and have regretted it since 🤦🏻‍♀️

Donsyb · 09/10/2024 06:45

Has anyone got a code for seasalt? MIL loves their socks so want to get her some for Christmas

djfjfj · 09/10/2024 06:46

Thanks again to whoever suggested contacting Claire’s on Twitter regarding missing reward points after items getting cancelled in an order. They got back within a few days and I now have the points back! I’m going to save rewards to use in store from now on; I had another £20 rewards on my account so my DC spent £10 each when we went for a day out at the weekend, and it was a much less stressful experience (and they got a little souvenir for free!)!

*Amazonmulu I got them and regretted it. I bought 2 pairs and I’m about to donate them/put them on Vinted as I can’t wear them - they’re way too high and my feet keep slipping out of them. I felt like I was going to break my neck in them. I wish I’d saved my money instead 🐑 *

STom2 · 09/10/2024 07:00

WimbyAce · 08/10/2024 21:23

Not festive but amazon have 3 medium pritt sticks for £1.49. Useful if your kids have to take their own to school.

Thanks @WimbyAce . I actually availed of this offer. 😊

ForHappyBee · 09/10/2024 07:12

For those talking about Etsy, you might want to be careful. A lot of things on Etsy are dropshipped: made cheaply in places like China and then sold on for more than they should be. Etsy used to be a lot better but now there are a lot of things like that which are cheaply made and break easily. Look into reviews and background of a seller. If they are making hundreds of products that are different - likely to be too good to be true.

YeahWellWhyNot · 09/10/2024 07:13

@Amazonmulu I'm "glad" you said that as I had the same experience, I bought the mule ones and the ones with two stripe bars on the top (sorry don't know that name) as a treat and they are the worst slippers I have ever owned. I feel like I'm on platforms and constantly slip sideways in them. I have given up using them now as especially when I've been holding my children, carrying them, walking up and down the stairs or whatever it feels like an accident waiting to happen.

handmademitlove · 09/10/2024 07:14

@WimbyAce our teens get a glue stick in their stockings each year so certainly festive in our world 🙂

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 09/10/2024 07:19

Sketchers hard sole slippers highly recommend these for anyone wanting slippers. They're reduced at the moment but I'd pay full price for them again easily. The only slipper I've managed to get more than a year out of! Bought after a recommendation from a pp.

Arewesureitisntbedtime · 09/10/2024 07:30

Another fan of skechers slippers here. I prefer these ones and have had my current pair for almost 2 years. I'm waiting for the price to drop on them as they have previously gone down as low as £17.50 (very briefly back in September and unfortunately I missed it!)
