Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

Reastie · 05/10/2024 19:23

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@Arewesureitisntbedtime ooh, my MiL would prefer a higher back style like those, please flag it here if you see them reduced that low again please ☺️

Arewesureitisntbedtime · 09/10/2024 07:40

One thing I will say about the skechers slippers is they seem to come up quite large, I wear a size 6 shoe but I had to send my first pair back as they were too big and now have size 5 slippers.

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 09/10/2024 07:19

Sketchers hard sole slippers highly recommend these for anyone wanting slippers. They're reduced at the moment but I'd pay full price for them again easily. The only slipper I've managed to get more than a year out of! Bought after a recommendation from a pp.

Also recommend these.

I received mine today. There were only 3 bits in there - body/hair wash and 2 clay mask bars…

What did you do? Did you complain?

IlovePond · 09/10/2024 07:56

Re: The Sketchers slippers - just a different perspective- I found them far too hard in the soles for my feet and had to return. Very cozy on top, though, (and to be fair, they are called ‘hard soled’!)

IlovePond · 09/10/2024 07:59

Just noticed a Tonies ‘Ultimate Pink’ thing on Amazon Prime deals.

(I daren’t click on it, as every time I log on now I am bombarded with Barbie because I looked at the DHouse yesterday 😹)

Edited: There’s a blue Disney one too - 20% off.

DangerousMouse · 09/10/2024 08:06

Does anyone know the best way to buy Star bucks gift cards? I need 5 £10 ones... Oh and they need to be physical cards. Thanks!

What did you do? Did you complain?

No, as somebody kindly shared their Vodafone code (I can’t use rewards for my work Vodafone number) & it was only postage I paid for, I felt it couldn’t really complain. I will definitely use the bottle of shower gel / hair wash as it smells wonderful.

My 10 year old has asked for a gold name necklace. I can't think where would be the best place for as cheap as possible??

I've purchase a few from Etsy, lots of different styles to choose from including adding a birth gemstone

IlovePond · 09/10/2024 08:13

£18.99 Barbie advent calendar on Amazon Prime too, apparently 😹and a Bluey one.

Also Cath Kidston and Nivea a/cs have good reductions.

@DangerousMouse - if you sign up for a Starbucks account, you sometimes get money off deals for cards.

Even if there isn’t a discount atm, you may still earn points.

Costa also have occasional gift card promotions

Thanks again to whoever suggested contacting Claire’s on Twitter regarding missing reward points after items getting cancelled in an order. They got back within a few days and I now have the points back! I’m going to save rewards to use in store from now on; I had another £20 rewards on my account so my DC spent £10 each when we went for a day out at the weekend, and it was a much less stressful experience (and they got a little souvenir for free!)!

That was me, glad you got it sorted ☺️ Bizarre how they only seem to reply on there and not to emails!

Christmasnearlydone · 09/10/2024 08:38

Slightly odd request - my youngest is still annoyed that we got rid of the bath (5+years ago!) so I was thinking about getting her one of those collapsible ones you can put in the bathroom/shower. I don't suppose anyone has a recommendation? Many thanks if you do.

Skullerymaid · 09/10/2024 08:44

Hohohopeful · 07/10/2024 16:58

@Skullerymaid santa brought a chocolate fountain last year. At first the children were disappointed as it looked so much smaller than the ones they had seen out. But they were delighted that it worked so well and they realised that a big one would need tonnes of chocolate to work.

Everyone we mentioned it to said "it'll be horrible to clean" but it's honestly fine, just pop all the bits in hot soapy water as soon as its done. Yes you need to add oil to keep the chocolate flowing. Tastes fine though and the children were so pleased.

The one we had was previously on argos, but I can currently only see on amazon. Think it it waa about £20/£25

Thanks, that’s very helpful and a good tip about the oil.

Amazonmulu · 09/10/2024 08:50

YeahWellWhyNot · 09/10/2024 07:13

@Amazonmulu I'm "glad" you said that as I had the same experience, I bought the mule ones and the ones with two stripe bars on the top (sorry don't know that name) as a treat and they are the worst slippers I have ever owned. I feel like I'm on platforms and constantly slip sideways in them. I have given up using them now as especially when I've been holding my children, carrying them, walking up and down the stairs or whatever it feels like an accident waiting to happen.

Ah! That's great to know!! I'm very clumsy and they sound like a death trap! Thanks for sharing! I feel no regret now! I'll have a look at the Sketchers recommended above!

Squ1ggle · 09/10/2024 09:02

@Amazonmulu I've had TOMS slippers for my last 2 pairs and they have both lasted years. My current pair I have had almost 2 years, I use them out and about in the garden as well and they will still last a long time yet.

I'd never pay full price though, think I managed to get mine for about £35ish when they had an offer on.

these are the ones I have

Ilovepugs2017 · 09/10/2024 09:06

If anyone wants a Lucy and yak code i can send you my link to have 25% off including outlet items! I used someone’s referral code on the referrals thread last night and because I bought only outlet items I managed to get 3 pairs of jeans and 2 pairs of dungarees with free delivery for £62.50! Very pleased as I’ve been after some Lucy and yak dungarees for ages!

weareallqueens · 09/10/2024 09:19

I've been looking at the Gabby's Dollshouse Rainbow house which is currently £56 on Amazon. Anyone got any idea whether it'll drop more than that or any way of getting it cheaper? It's a lot of money for something I suspect will have only interest her for a little while.

Thelifeofawife · 09/10/2024 09:19

@ShinyPrettyThings87 @Arewesureitisntbedtime thanks for the Sketchers recommendations, these will be great for my DM. I know Sketchers tend to come up big, but unsure which would be best size to get her, she’s usually shoe size 7 (though they can be a bit big), so are you able to advise whether it would be best to go for 6.5 or 6?

Ooooo yes please if no one else has asked yet! I love the look of their dungarees but not yet treated myself! How do you find the sizing?
