Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

Reastie · 05/10/2024 19:23

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Throwing this out to the lovely people on this group, in case anyone has seen something along these lines - I'm on the lookout for a tram that is compatible with Brio tracks. My DS has various trains (including an underground one), but is tram obsessed and wants one for his tracks. I can see toy trams but haven't spotted anything thats Brio/wooden track compatible. Hoping there might be someone on here that's seen something like this 🙈

This sort of thing or am I way off? Very sleep deprived here and can’t do near links: www.tootallythomas.co.uk/ourshop/prod_6144288-Tram-Engine.html

@DressOrSkirt daft question but after googling I saw a result for Anthropologie UK clicked in there then saw prices were sterling - does that mean I'm in the right place?!!

I did at first go via TopCashback ... surely they would only send you to a UK site?!!

Hey, sorry I actually think I was wrong on looking again I think it's the same site with different currency settings, as long as the prices are in sterling you are good 👍

@Crafty09
this is where I got the dupes. EBay is your best bet for genuine

i can’t remember who was after the Jo malone bluebell dupe a few threads back. Lidl now have a hand soap and moisturiser of them for £2.99.

they also have l’occtaine dupes

Hohohopeful · 08/10/2024 10:13

Those asking about Yoto vs Toni, I'd strongly recommend the Yoto. Our DD was able to use it when she got it at 2. There are more cards available, you can record your own, use radio and podcasts and play everything through the app if you want. Our friends got the tonie at the same time and are regretting it now our children are 6. I'd also reccomend having the same system for both you children so you can pass cards down.

Currently on offer big box biscuits these are my go-to presents for groups, we usually drop one in to the GP's surgery, and the oncology unit where my mum is having treatment. Ok they're not any cheaper than buying the individual packs in the supermarket but they're very well received.

InAnyOtherLife · 08/10/2024 10:16

Hobbycraft have an Art sale on with 25% off Posca pens - they also have a code at the minute for £5 off a £15 spend: HC515.

Art sale ends tonight but the code is good through to the 22nd.

Thanks @DownWhichOfLate . I spotted that one but doesn't seem to be stocked by Brio anymore. I've seen some toy trams that are diecast models with wheels but I cannot quite work out dimensions or whether they might run on the wooden tracks (we've had a bunch of non brio stuff in the past that has kind of worked).

Ideally something that looked like these 😂 He's almost 4 and train obsessed (coaches me on different types of trains 😂) so I likely won't get away with one of the Brio metro ones I was considering. If it comes to it I'll just take my chances and get a tram but wondered whether anyone else had tram obsessed DCs they've found and something like this before 🙈

I hope this request doesn't upset anyone,
My soon to be teen grandson has a keen interest in zoology and last year requested a crocodile skull , which he was lucky enough to get in a glass case.
He has asked for similar again this year, as in some more animal bones (skull , skeleton)
He wants study and draw them.
If any of you amazing mumsnet people have any light bulb moments, please share. 🙏

Excuse the odd website name but Crimson Rich Desires do a good range of replica skulls (used by zoo education teams!)

I'm sure I have seen people mention these Story Orchestra books on here before. £6.80 on Amazon today for The Nutcracker and the same price for Swan Lake Seems like a good bargain for lovely Christmas books.

Thanks for this. Looks lovely.

I've posted about these amazing Kitchen Aid kitche shears before. They are back down to £6.99 as a prime deal. I think I git them for £4 last year on BF, but I can't see them going that low again.

A great add on gift for the foodie / gadget person in your life.

There's 30% off adult-sized oodies but some of them are not included - deadpool, avengers - does anyone know if these are likely to go into an offer on Black Friday or anything?

Timelass · 08/10/2024 10:34

@SlowlyGainingConfidence Thank you ! interesting site.
It was a real Nile crocodile skull last Christmas, will see what he thinks 🤔.
I know he will be interested in the site , if used by real zoologist 😂

Firsttimeposter121 · 08/10/2024 10:36

Does anyone know if the free greeting card offer code is still working?

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 08/10/2024 10:41

@RainbowZebraWarrior
I bought them after getting fed up of my son nicking the general scissors and losing them, I can concur they're great kitchen scissors. Even good for pruning stray twigs coming through the fence 👀 still sharp after everything I've put them through this past month! So thank you!

These seem pretty good for those looking for a mini fridge for teenagers. The 6 litre in grey or pink is under £25

Cos1970 · 08/10/2024 10:58

Boots have got their £10 Tuesday offers on plus some others (see pics)
