Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

Reastie · 05/10/2024 19:23

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I must have missed the ice cream set by minutes, really annoying!

Worth a browse on Amazon as loads of things I’ve looked at recently are 15-20% off, suspect some discounts are personalised

Still showing as £24.95 for me (50% off).

NC5768 · 08/10/2024 09:09

Jazzjazzyjulez · 08/10/2024 08:30

It is still showing as full price for me, weird!

It was a limited time deal. When I bought mine at 4am (thank you non sleeping baby!) it was 60% taken already.

CarrieMoonbeams · 08/10/2024 07:54

Well that was a disappointment @Famousthehero - I thought that was going to be one of those really spicy chilli chutney/jam type of thing and thought I'd buy that for DH 😂. Sadly, at 63 I feel he may not be the target audience for the real product 😂

Ha ha! That’s going to make me smile when my son opens his.
to be fair, I’m not sure we’re ever too old to enjoy a car launcher…

ramonaquimby · 08/10/2024 09:14

I think it's US owned, but stuff will come from UK warehouses. I order a few times a year and never pay additional taxes (am in England)

STom2 · 08/10/2024 09:14

Throwing this out to the lovely people on this group, in case anyone has seen something along these lines - I'm on the lookout for a tram that is compatible with Brio tracks. My DS has various trains (including an underground one), but is tram obsessed and wants one for his tracks. I can see toy trams but haven't spotted anything thats Brio/wooden track compatible. Hoping there might be someone on here that's seen something like this 🙈

Sorry this is re Anthropologie query , meant to include that post!

MynameisJune · 08/10/2024 08:23

I’ve got £6 off £60 if you want it.

Yes please! Thank you

djfjfj · 08/10/2024 09:26

Just to echo what someone said about clicking on things in your Amazon basket to check the price: I was notified of some price changes due to ‘prime big deal’ and they clearly say this under the price in my basket, but I’ve found that some items still have the higher price but when I click on them they’re also on a ‘prime big deal, but I wouldn’t have known without clicking onto the item page.

mybrainisbusybeingawesome · 08/10/2024 09:27

All the Melissa & Doug deals are still showing for me. Got this dentist set for £15.99! Still £30/35 everywhere else. amzn.eu/d/g0VphGi

Has anyone seen any good deals on fragrance miniatures? Teen son totally sucked in by perfume influencers and would like to put a few different ones in his advent calendar.

Just catching up on this thread so apologies if this has been answered already!
ebay is your friend for this for designer ones. I got loads of dupes one year, I will dig out where from in a minute. I just went for stupid names of them like “rude boi” things like that, the more roadman the name the more likely I bought it.

Ilovepugs2017 · 08/10/2024 09:31

Just wanted to say thank you for everyone who’s posted deals that I’ve benefited from so far!

What’s even more lovely though is seeing so many people being so helpful and kind to each other. Even just with the Argos codes but also with being willing to go out of their way to send things to other mumsnetters. It’s so lovely to see! So glad to be a part of this online community where humans are just here to help each other at such an expensive time of year! X

Has anyone shopped from Anthropologie before and if so - do you end up with extra tax/duty? Was on the verge of getting something and noticed this -

Your order total includes all taxes and duties when shipping within the EU. Deliveries outside of the EU may incur additional customs charges on receipt of item(s).

Confused

I order from Anthro all the time and it is always from the UK warehouse or a UK store. There is never any customs charges.

BourbonsAreOverated · 08/10/2024 09:34

I’ve just bought some of the shokz bone conductive headphones reduced to £55 on the prime deals

They have a separate EU and UK website, maybe make sure you're on the right one?

Hi, I need to buy an adult dry robe for an adult relation, who wants it after years of getting cold and soaked watching her son play football, so as a coat rather than for swimming. She’s asked for an official dryrobe rather than another brand. Are there ever any good deals on the official ones?

And she’s a size 14 - the website suggests that would be a size S if worn as a coat, if you have one, does that sound right?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 08/10/2024 09:47

Doh sorry - lesson to self to READ REST OF THREAD Grin

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 08/10/2024 09:47

Thanks all, appreciate replies very much - feel confident now and will make sure I'm on right site

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 08/10/2024 09:49

@DressOrSkirt daft question but after googling I saw a result for Anthropologie UK clicked in there then saw prices were sterling - does that mean I'm in the right place?!!

I did at first go via TopCashback ... surely they would only send you to a UK site?!!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 08/10/2024 09:49

Huge apologies to all for derailing thread Confused

Me again with more questions! My dd is 8 and absolutely set on a tonie. But would the yoto be better?
She's seen some of the new pocket books for the tonie and has a list she'd like of those but I'm just wondering about the longevity of it for the price

I have never used a tonie, but our yoto mini is hands down the best gift we've given DS. He got it at 4 and it's still used daily 3 years later. We joined yoto club this year so he gets to choose new cards regularly but before then we've just had them as birthday & Christmas gifts or put audiobooks on make your own cards. It goes in the the car with us, in train journeys, in the plane on holiday and is listened to every day at home while he is playing. If it broke, I would buy another immediately without question.

I have an official dry robe. Size s is spot on for a size 14. I think I got about £20 off at Black Friday. They don't do much better than that really. I think they may offer discount for students iirc.

Edited to add: yes, 10% off for students, armed forces, NHS and emergency services
